Neither of us had any experience of adoption beforehand, so we really had to be walked through everything. The staff of Adopt, and Lisa especially who was our adoption councillor couldn't have been more helpful and supportive. At every turn they were there to answer questions, boost our confidence when the process seemed to be taking a long time (just the nature of adoption, sadly), but when they really came into their own was when it came to the adoption itself. Being at a hospital waiting for a baby is a situation that nothing can prepare you for, but the staff of Adopt were always there. We could have called anytime and they would have been ready to advise; we really couldn't have asked for me. What's really great though is that even after our adoption has finalized, and we have the most wonderful son, they continue to be available, supporting our birth mother, and giving us further advice about how to make open adoption work in practice. I really can't recommend them highly enough.

I can tell you what I did experience for three hell bound weeks when I was STILL in h.s! I was about 17 or 18 at the time that my very misguided and narcissistic father decided that this would not only be a great way to get me to "improve", but that it'd also make a really great story to which HE could then also use to "brag" about "me" in a local paper. I never ever got his consent to publish the story by the way. Long story short, he humiliated me and violated my trust with the way that he told the story. And he also had the nerve to add a dorky family pic to the lame ass story too. Can you guys start to see why I was fucked up to begin with? LOL! All of this happened mostly because I hated school with a passion, so I ditched last period a lot. I was OK with my other classes though. I never really did drugs in h.s except for trying a few joints, and I never went to any parties or even drank. I never even fooled around with guys, much less had a b.f. I was mostly a good girl I guess you can say! I had a bad problem with depression back then, and I still do. That was not the answer to my problems obviously. Anyways, this outdoor trip from hell was for about 3 weeks way up in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Ca. I was never the outdoor type, so this made things especially harder for me even though I was in fairly decent shape at the time. I'm 5'4 and at that time in my life I weighed 110lbs. and I would often walk to and back from school about 45 minutes each way. I'd also ride my bike for an hour almost everyday ad swim for an hour or more almost everyday in the Summer. Still, this was not enough to prepare me for the intense physical demands of the next three weeks to come. I was expected to carry at least 60lbs. of gear for approximately 5-15 miles a day over very unforgiving rough terrain in snow some of the time There were NO trails. We'd often have to hike through thorny bushes and steep hills. There was one time this overweight girl who had asthma almost didn't make it up one steep hill. She was in pain and crying, but she made it. I was the weakest one in the bunch aside from her, so I was often left behind a bit. We had two instructors with us most of the time except for the 3 days to where we all had to stay in a small tent that we put up by ourselves. If that wasn't bad enough, we had nothing put gorp and one small pack of kool aid to survive on aside from the bug infested water by us. Gorp is trail mix. Each group consisted of around 7 people I think. This was a long time ago so my memory is a bit hazy. I'll never ever forget how fucked up and psychotic some of those people were though. A few of the guys threw snowballs with rocks in it at me one time and no one did shit to stop them, not even the instructors. So I threw some back at them to protect myself. I had to sleep in a sleeping bag alone outside in the cold since I didn't trust them at all. I would always be the first one to wake up in the morning. Parents, keep in mind that if your child gets injured in the middle of nowhere, then they'll have to be airlifted to a hospital. OK, so if they have ANY health issues, or if they fall and hurt themselves, help will not be available right away. One guy did twist his ankle there and had to leave the group. It's not that easy to leave otherwise. I tried to do that once we got to an actual camp site with a phone and a public restroom, but they uber greedy bitch who was one of the organizers there kept yelling at me and she told me that she wouldn't get the money if I left before the end of the 3 weeks. She was a bully. I did enjoy some of the beautiful scenery up there, but I certainly did NOT enjoy not being able to take a bath for 3 weeks w/o soap! And to have to go in the wild. We'd have to use a shovel each time we had to go as there were no toilets up there. I only had a handkerchief and water from the stream to clean myself with. We were able to purify the water when we were there, and it tasted fine although there were small bugs in it. I wanted to kill my dad the whole time i was there. It's also no exaggeration that I feared for my life on that trip especially after hearing about how one big crazy football player guy with zero common sense happened to run after a bear and end up punching a wild bear in the face for stealing the groups food. That guy wasn't in our group, but wow, I wish I had balls as big as him! I did hear some wild animal in the woods when I wandered off by myself. I have never stood so still in my life! The only really good thing about the whole ordeal was that by the time it was over, my pot belly was almost gone and I was so strong and lean at the end of the trip, that lifting that 60 plus pound back pack felt like nothing to me. Parents, talk to your kids instead of punishing them!

This is a one in a lifetime experience. They send you out in the woods with nine other kids and you…read morebegin to bond as a unit and contribute to the team. You hike 7-8 miles a day,hike up high ridges and mountains, swim in cold alpine lakes and cook your own meals. You also have a chance at a solo night where you camp without the counselors. They connections you make with other people continue way after the trip is Over and you gain a new kind of confidence that you didn't have before. Outward bound helped me and I know that it will help other kids in the future enjoy nature and be confident as well.

I started off going to this place for therapy services and quickly learned they offered much more than just a safe place to talk. These people were heaven sent, they have been there for me and my 3 kids (who at the time were very young) and have helped us during times when no one else was there - in so many ways. I couldnt be more thankful for the staff that worked there at that time (10 years ago). When i was looking for housing, Beatrice (Betty) not only provided helpful resources, she even went with me to several of the showings just for support. She was like the best friend i never had. Christmas time, they provided gifts for my kids when I couldn't and when i finally found a place, they even helped me with my security deposit to move in! I was emotionally attached to the staff during this time of my life, which was more difficult than i could ever speak on. The talk line was always open and available whenever i needed someone to talk to, which was quite often during that part of my life, I could always count on them for emotional support. Unfortunately, that all changed one day out of no where. Betty (Beatrice) and the other black lady there (forgive me for not recalling her name at this time) but she was one of the head people there during that time, I considered them to be lIke family - suddenly began to treat me like I never existed, they completely turned their backs on me with no explanation what so ever. i was crushed! To this day i still have no idea why they changed up on me the way they did. We've never had anything but good interactions. I was devastated. i even wrote a two page email to the both of them and they never even gave me the decency of a simple response. The last time I was there they treated me like they didnt even know me or had just met me. It was unbelievable! To this day i wonder what caused them to change up on me the way they did but i guess i'll never know. I wont say not to utilize this place because its a wonderful place - especially if you're in need of any kind of emotional support but i will say move with caution. Anyone who can go from being as close and supportive as they were with me to simply acting like you never existed is something I'd be extremely Leary of. SF Talk Line nka: Safe & Sound truly hurt me to the core. I have tried several times to find out why, but all i got was silence. Not sure if the same people are there still, doesnt matter, if this is the way they do you after supporting you emotionally for as long as they did with me, then Id beware. Such a very sad ending to what I thought was a beautiful story.

Lovely Kids Daycare has been INCREDIBLE. They have been taking care of my daughter for about a year…read moreand a half - since she was 4 months old. She is so happy every morning when she gets to daycare and has been thriving under their care. She has been perfectly taken care of and loves the caregivers and her friends. She comes home every day fed and clean and happy and has been learning so much- they helped her learn about animals and letters. They do a great job communicating when my daughter learns something new or if something comes up. They have also been flexible and helpful with my hours for my busy job. Knowing she has been in such great care with them has made my life as a new parent so much easier. 10/10 recommend.
