Correction, it's the Hatchet House in Dunboyne, Ireland. They dont use Yelp much on Irelend. Travel advisor leading review site. Anyway This was the best meal I had in Ireland after one full week of eating out 3 × a day. The steak on a stone is remarkable Comes very rare and you cut it and cook it on this sizzling stone right in front of you. The seafood chowder to die for. Chocolate brownie awesome. I like this pub. It is always filled with a decent crowed, the staff knows how to pour a decent pint and the food is good too. It is a nice place to meet up with friends and chat or to go to for a yummy Sunday dinner. They also have a great function room you can rent out for parties. Renting this room might be slightly on the expensive site but it is a good size, has a nice bar and you can bring your own DJ and your own food. read more

It serves a delicious carvery which is on offer daily from 12- 8 p.m and it is great value for money. A Sunday afternoon here is extremely family friendly which does provide a great atomsphere. This is my parents and a lot of my family's local pub. This pub is huge, super friendly staff, the food aint bad and the atmosphere on a Friday and Saturday night is just what you want from a Dublin local. The only thing that annoys me about this place is Sunday's and Bank Holiday Monday's. The place is full of kids during the day and they tend to be running around being annoying to everyone else as kids tend to do in pubs [I was a master of this myself when I was their age]. There's a function room upstairs and they will also separate off an area for you downstairs for Christening's etc. There is a separate restaurant attached which I was only in once for a coffee morning with my Mam which was raising money for Temple Street Hospital. The owners daughter baked all the cakes which were amazing. I really want to try their dinner menu to see what it's like. The carvery in the pub is alright, nothing too great if I am honest, usual carvery fare. The sambos and soup are pretty good though and well priced. REALLY nice coleslaw. I ordered a burger and chips here the other week in the main bar. The burger was nice but what let it down for me was the frozen chips that came with it. If you have a homemade burger then you should really be serving homemade chips especially when you are charging a tenner. But really the staff make this place what it is. There's a lady who works the floor here on weekend nights [her name escapes me] glasses, kinda blondey brown hair. A real Dublin character and full of the craic. Really makes you feel at home which is what makes pubs in Ireland so welcoming. read more

Great pub, good fun. This pub is great for a local meet up location for midweek drinks and is great craic on a busy weekend as well. With a spacious interior and lots of seats, it's a great place to meet up with a group of friends. Likewise, the cosy tables in the corners allows for an intimate conversation if you choose. Pints and drinks are reasonably priced. They have a nice outdoor garden which is handy for the long evenings or warm summer days we hope to experience soon. Friendly bar staff, last call at 12:30am on the weekends. Walking distance from my house...this bar marks high on my list. read more

This is a regular dinner spot for my family and I. My nana absolutely loves it here. We went over for Mother's Day, there was 11 of us. Unfortunately, there was no place big enough for us to sit so we had to drag tables together, which actually meant we were separated slightly. The carvery is good on a Sunday, it's €6.95 for a veg and potato dinner (no meat) and then €12.95 for a meat dinner. They always have a good selection of meats to choose from. Two of our group ordered the lamb, they weren't that impressed, they said it was too tough, a few ordered the Turkey, which they said was delicious and the beef was also really good. Sometimes, I feel like there could be a better selection of veg with the carvery, the only options I had were carrots and swede or cabbage. I don't eat cabbage, so I had carrots and swede, mashed potato and stuffing. Luckily, the chef was in a good mood and gave me a roaster too. I know €6.95 is a great price for a veg dinner but I would prefer a bigger selection to choose from. The service is always good, we've never had any problems, so that would be my only "beef" with this place. read more

Nice pub. Friendly staff. Had a carvary dinner today and it was delicious. I had salmon and my husband had beef and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Only negative is that most of the pub was already reserved when we arrived so difficult to find seating but as the rugby was on I'd imagine that is why. Also a handy free charging station for mobiles which came in handy. We will definitely be back! read more

Lovely place to meet up with your family and friends, friendly staff...it's worth it!

I used to go past the Halfway House on the bus home all the time but never actually went there until recently for a full Irish. The pub has a nice, traditional village pub interior with lots of dark wood and comfortable chairs. The breakfast was good and there was a lot of it, but I can probably think of a place or two where I can get the same a wee bit cheaper. Still, the Halfway House has a nice, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. They also do carvery lunch from 12pm to 8pm every day and they draw a good pint. A nice local, unfortunately at the wrong end of Dublin for me to go there on a regular basis. read more

I love this pub! I love where it is and the inside of the building is nice and cosy :) Although it gets jammers the weekends for carvery there does be a great buzz and loads of familys. The food itself does be your average carvery food but theres a good selection and the corned beef is the nicest ive had in a pub! Worth going for some sunday lunch! Sweet & simple :) read more

Have had food here on several occasions... Normally go for the carvery on a Sunday. Food has been great on most occasions and portions are very generous relative to the price. Staff are pleasant and plenty of tv's to watch sports. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Went for breakfast there last week left standing there 5 minutes for toast that the girl forgot to put on. By the time I got to eat it breakfast was cold they ran out of mushrooms and hash brown didn't get them even though it's included in full Irish. AVOID for breakfast !!! read more

A typical (quite large) pub with quite a history - the IRA tried to kill the British viceroy on the premises in 1920. Comes with attached off-license, carvery and restaurant, and is famous with locals, Sunday strollers and tourists coming over from nearby Phoenix Park. read more

The halfway house was always a bit dreary to me. Many of our family celebrations were held here & to be honest it wasn't great. Thankfully the place has had a makeover & it appears much brighter & a lot more inviting. The only issue I have with this place is the transport links. You can really only get to this place if you drive as there are no bus routes that service the area. read more

Nice pub with a super friendly staff but the restaurant leaves alot to be desired. I found the menu quite limited and the steak I ordered medium was completely undercooked and overpriced. Great spot to watch the match and reasonable prices for pints but I would eat elsewhere before coming here again. read more
