On a Friday night, it was really easy to get a seat. The first time I had fish and chips was in Australia, but I wasn't very impressed. This place's fish and chips was more memorable tho! A small salad, a lemon, a huge fish, and pea purée & tartar sauce. I'm not an expert of this dish, but I was happy that I didn't feel too heavy. The service was funny and polite. Also the interior is sooo nice. Very bright and brown and has a nice classic feel to it. My picture doesn't do the inside justice, but it's nicer than other places I think. Lovely gluten free fish and chips! Make sure you check which establishment of Madigans you choose - not all of them have GF, grateful this one did. These were done well, overall portion size was smallish. We ended up splitting an order and added a side order of veggies, and not eating all of the chips, so the portions are still filling. Great little pub off of the busy street. We originally stopped in to use the bathroom, but stayed and enjoyed the musical entertainment for a bit as it was good. Seemed like a busy place - lots of people coming in for a drink. Kevin, our bartender, was a hoot. Really nice and funny guy, would go back to just hang with him. This place always reminds me of when I was treated to a shopping day in the city with the Mammy. We would finish off the day with a dinner here. It's a pub but they do a carvery downstairs, it's a no frills, put meat on your bones type of affair. But if you are in the mood for just that, a simple Irish dinner then this is the place for you. I have to say I love it here. I affectionately refer to it as "old mannigans", purely because it has that classic "old man pub" feeling of a chill atmosphere, welcoming staff and decor with character (which is so absent in so many modern bars). The staff are lovely and helpful, and even quick to recommend things you might like . I don't get to circulate this way often, but the staff always seem to remember me. The food is absolutely lush . Best Sunday roast not in an actual restaurant. Would be awesome if they had more of a beer garden/ smoking area though. read more

This was the first place we went to when arriving in Dublin and it was AWESOME! The workers were super friendly and our waitress suggested some local things to do in the afternoon. She also suggested a lager to my friend and me who normally drink light beer, Hop House 13, and this became our go to beer at every pub! SO good! You get your typical pub feel and atmosphere that you expect walking into an Irish bar. The servings are HUGE and can easily be split with a friend. We noticed there are multiple Madigans around the city but this one left a great first impression so we returned to this one for an early lunch one day. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the second time, the bathrooms didnt want to flush in any stall and seemed a bit messy for earlier in the day. I can see Madigans being one of two things to you. 1. An in-between pub. You know a place to rest, grab a drink and a bit of conversation before you head back out there for a long night. or 2. A nice night cap to end an evening. Same thing, rest, grab a drink and a bit of conversation. Then again I suppose it can be both like it was for me. Start of being an end but a second wind moved the night onward... and on, and on. The high ceilings and nooks are inviting, but there was a musty/moldy smell that I could not get out of my nostrils. Madigan's is like any other 'real' pub in Dublin. Everything is fairly straightforward and does exactly what it says on the tin- carvery lunch is exactly that and the pints are decent. There is nothing fancy about this place and if that's what you like you'll love Madigans. It's just around the corner from the Spire on O'Connell Street so it's very central, which would make it a perfect spot to meet friends but personally I find it lacks atmosphere. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Madigans, but there is nothing special about it either. A decent pub with your average carvery. read more

I am a 22 year old woman who went to go to Madigan's after hearing great reviews from friends and the website, however entering with my two friends who were both 25, I was informed I was unable to enter due to my age. I was shocked at this due to the fact I was aware of the legal drinking age, however was later informed this was the managers choice. This is very disappointing and discriminatory towards the younger age in such a popular place of Dow , leaving me extremely disappointed. I hope they change this ageist approach soon. read more

Great spot for lunch. Gets busy during the day, but staff are always on hand to make sure the place is clean, tidy and that theres a free table. Food menu is decent, and prices aren't too bad for city centre. Portions are "Irish mammy" sized - You won't be hungry afterwards! Only let down is the toilets. read more
