Fitzgerald's is in the Temple Bar section of Dublin so it definitely attracts tourists. However, I've seen quite a few locals patronizing on occasion. Even though it's a bit more touristy, it's still a great spot. A typical Irish pub with proper and good pub fare. The boyfriend had the beef and Guinness pie. We shared a Carlsberg as well as an authentic Irish coffee. I had a proper cottage pie (not to be confused with shepherds pie which is made with lamb). Mashed potatoes topped this pie of carrots, peas, and Irish beef. Good service and affordable pricing considering its super touristy location. read more

First dinner in Dublin, Ireland. Had a quick dinner bite here. Somehow Yelp app marked this place as closed, but it was actually open at 5:15 pm. Environment: casual, typical Irish pub, abundant lighting, music not too loud. Service: friendly, but there seems to be only on server taking all the tables. My hour was not busy so she could take care of everything. Drink: Guiness stout, Irish signature, standard. Soup: soup of the day was chicken and potato. Didn't taste much chicken, but I love the way they diced the potato and used a slightly clearer broth base than potato cream soup. Can taste the little bits of fresh potato. Cottage Pie: can't go wrong with minced beef and veggies. Seasoning was on point, and I loved the fact that it was not overly watery. Generous portion of mashed potatoes. Preface: I'm american. No, I'm not a basic american. I actually have culture. 1 pint guinness €7, cottage pie €14.85, total of €21.95. This was actually where I had my first guinness ever!! This was the first pub we went to after a long flight from the states and it was by pure accident as it was about to start pouring rain so we popped in for a bite and a dink around 5pm. The pub was already moderately packed and the front table/section had a live musician so it was a bit louder than normal. We moved our way to the back of the restaurant where we saps few available tables and tried to get seated. Unfortunately we were told that they were reserved for a 6:30. I was disappointed because that was an hour and a half away and surely we would have been able to eat and drink in that amount of time. We ended up finding a small bar area in the corner and a few stools so some of us could sit. Getting drinks were easy as all you have to go is walk up to the bar. Getting food was a challenge, especially since the server said she would come take our order after we settled. I ended up having to flag down an older gentleman, who I can only assume was I'm the bar owner. He was kind enough to send over a server to look after us. The food was outstanding and came out rather quick. I suspect this is due to a pretty set menu offering. The bar quickly got crowded from all the passersby who were seeking shelter from the heavy rain, but once that passed it felt like locals and a handful of tourists were left there, which was nice and gave you more room to breathe and talk to your group without shouting or getting bumped into because of the foot traffic. Fitzgeralds was a basic pub that seemed to mostly cater to tourists; the prices were average for 'a pint' and the crowd was mostly European.

I can't give this a 5/5 stars because we didn't spend too much time here, but a buddy of mine and I came here for straight corned beef because we couldn't find a place that served just that. We were actually supposed to go to a carvery but there wasn't one in the Temple Bar area. We spoke to a local and she said those are the best placed to get real corned beef but we couldn't make it that far out of the city. Anyway, onto it. Decent spot, looks like all the other kind of pubs/restaurants out there. The service was great, no doubt about that, but on to the food. Just the corned beef, itself was really good, and I'm not sure what kind of sauce was on it but it was really good. I expected the cabbage in Ireland to be better, but it was alright. read more

Went to Fitzgerald's to get out of the rain and it was not that crowded so had a pint of Guinness as I talked to the bartender Stephen. It was my 1st day in Dublin so he told me all about the city, where to go, the best pints and so on. He let me run a tab as I had multiple silky smooth pints of Guinness and 2 shots of Jameson. Sat outside for a little while once the rain stopped and people watched everyone traveling over O'Connell bridge. It was a nice day spent at a great pub with a great bartender. This is the type of place that, if you lived nearby, you'd want to make your regular hangout. It's fun and spacious with great food and drink options, not to mention an amazing staff! We had fish and chips, which were absolutely amazing. Huge portions, hot and fresh. Really couldn't have asked for more. Also had the Irish stew... A member of staff was quite rude and when we asked again she proceeded to tell us we couldn't come back in with no explanation. Just the perfect decibel of drunkeness. It's right outside of Temple Bar so you don't have to deal with the annoying, sloshed crowd. You get to meet an interesting mix of both locals and tourists. Was pretty packed when we went (night before St. Paddy's) but the space is big enough so that no one is spilling their Guinness on you. On our first night in Ireland, we walked around Temple Bar for nearly an hour checking out menus and such, and were ultimately drawn into Fitzgerald's by the prices. It offers some of the cheapest traditional Irish fare in all of Ireland! Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful. I ordered Shepherd's Pie, and it was marvelous. The portion was smaller than most restaurant servings (which explains the cheaper prices, most likely), but in my opinion, that's a GOOD thing. We were so pleased with our first visit here that we made several more stops throughout the week. We loooooved the drink menu, and we double-loved the prices. Five euro for a cocktail? Are you kidding me? That's almost unheard of in Dublin! The cosmo and mojito are both fantastic. By the time we left Dublin, we had become so emotionally attached to this cozy bar that we all purchased Fitzgeralds T-shirts. I wear mine all the time. :) read more

Classic, narrow pub with an inviting vibe and traditional favorites. Highly recommend the fish and chips. The food was quality and not too expensive. Just like you'd picture a traditional pub plate of food, and paired great with a historic Dublin Guinness! They have TV's on for sporting events - I was lucky enough to be here with some friends watching the final match of Wimbledon in 2013 when Andy Murray won Men's Finals. Went during the day, so pretty quiet and a good time for lunch or early dinner. Great location in downtown Dublin, right next to the Temple Bar District and directly off the River Liffey. Bonus: walk over to O'Connell Bridge to see some other landmarks down O'Connell Street Upper, or go west and walk along the riverside to see other famous bridges, like the Ha'penny Bridge. Pro tip: Any pub in Dublin is the best place to order Guinness. The water is locally sourced to produce any Guinness you have worldwide - the water used to make it in Dublin is spring water sourced from the nearby Wicklow Mountains. I unwisely chose to eat at Fitgerald's my first night in Dublin. It was late and most of the other restaurants had already closed their kitchens so my options were limited. Not only was our server rude, but the establishment was dirty with fruit flies flying at us from every side. The food was unremarkable and quit tasteless. The only really positive thing I can say about this place is that they served Guinness so that made my friend happy, but the wine I got was not that good at all. The server never checked on us or offered to refill our drinks, nor did she clear our plates when we were finished. I was very disappointed. Luckily there are more and better restaurants in Dublin, and I was able to overlook my first impression of this city's dining scene. read more

I am rating this place on the food. I went here because it had a lot of good reviews so I was expecting it to be really good. It was good but nothing all that great. I had irish bacon and cabbage. It came with carrots that were really soggy and mushy, not how I like to eat my veggies, but maybe that is an Irish thing, I am not sure. The bacon was good but really salty. It's funny when you think that Fitzgerald's is right opposite the lights on O'Connell Bridge and you stare right at it when you wait for them to turn green but nobody ever seems to remember there being a pub right at that corner. It's actually a nice, comfy place to go to for a quiet pint. There were a few characters there but even though it's technically in Temple Bar, there were virtually no tourists. Very refreshing. As with most pubs, the bartenders know how to draw a good pint and the chairs are comfortable and in Fitzgerald's can even look out onto the Liffey while enjoying your pint. read more

been coming here for a few years and only now do I notice I haven't done a review. I've never had food here, but have always had a good night of beers and music. We originally came here for a comedy/music act and when they moved on we came for the great musicians. And we wouldn't be so quick to come back if the staff weren't good. I popped in there last night and it was a perfect example of how nice and good the staff were. From the off, when I ordered a brand of pale ale, they gave me the option of another brand as it was cheaper (€3.95 for a pint, IN DUBLIN). Which was lucky because I hadn't see the other tap. So as always there was good music and good beer making a good end to my night! If you are in the vicinity of O'Connell St or Temple Bar you could do a lot worse than come in here for a drink and a sing song! read more

A group (7) of us from Texas stumbled into Fitzgerald's last night because it was starting to drizzle. We came back tonight because we liked it that much. We even bought a few more members of our group. Mary says, "the best fish and chips in Ireland!" Barbara loves the potato and leek soup. Edie said the lamb stew was amazing. Joel said everything was wonderful. The service has been great. Chloe and Matthew took great care of us even though we had a large group, separate checks, and split orders. Although a lot of my family lives around Ireland, I live in California and crave Irish food when I visit. Fitzgerald's hits the spot every time. While backpacking through Dublin a few years ago I tried this place with friends. We liked it so much we came back the next day. Last week, I took my mom for dinner one night and we decided to return the next day for lunch. By mentioning we visited the night before our waitress gave us a 10% discount on our bill. Upon leaving she asked whether we'd visit again. We said of course. She proceeded to give us a 10% off coupon for our next visit. That was a pleasant surprise. Ambiance- it's a typical Irish pub. At first glance it seems crowded because there is a narrow walkway by the front bar. In the back, however, there's a good amount of seating. Not the best place for big groups to dine, but you can definitely fit 4 or 5 people at the tables or booths. It's not as packed or expensive as the other bars in the heart of the Temple Bar area. It's not that loud in the restaurant area, so you can easily hold conversations. They have lunch and dinner specials everyday. Normally for their most popular foods. My mom and I escaped both days spending less than €30 on our meal (which included 2 entres, Guinness, and wine). Not bad. Some nights they have live music in the front of the bar. The rest of the time they mix Irish music with popular American tunes in the background. The staff is extremely kind. If it seems they take long to bring your check, we discovered the Irish give their customers time to enjoy themselves and wait until the customers ask for the bill before interrupting their dining experience. Just keep that in mind. Parking... I don't really recommend driving in Dublin. I'll definitely be back. read more

Amazing chicken wings, I'm throughly impressed. The chicken was so tender it peeled off the bone. I was able to eat them with a folk and knife to not dirty my fingers, but they also provide water with lemon to wash hands after the meal. It was a great price for the quality and quantity of food. The bar was crowded with other young people, which was good, and there was entertaining loud music, but the food, drinks, and service did not make the experience worth it. First of all, they had run out of everything we had wanted so we had to settle for the stew, the Irish staple. They forgot a drink order we made. Also, the bartenders were unfamiliar with the drinks we ordered (nothing too complicated at that) and took forever in looking them up and preparing them. Our server completely forgot about us and our meals and did not bother to speed up any process. Came all the way from the states and found such a treasure! Fitzgerald's not only had a vast menu that accommodated myself who has dietary restrictions but it was also delicious. This is a grand little pub in one of the busiest parts of Dublin. They do good food as well, but it is a bit dear. They tend to have all the major sporting events on the telly here and fill up fast due to their location so if you are calling here make sure you get there early enough. Bartender walked past us multiple times and didn't even acknowledge us. Got food at the bar and it was over salted and very plain. No one checked up on us to see if everything was okay.
