My gluten free..the fish was dry and disgusting. Tasted like it had been made before and was just heated up. The regular halibut was rubbery. Chips were also hard and gross. Used to go once a month with previous owners..,we won't ever go back.

Great, fabulous restaurant!…read more Seriously, it's your classic 'fish and chips' spot and honestly, the food is delicious, but it's the SERVICE that really makes this place a 5 star! it's a 'mom and pop' independent establishment and you can tell these folks really care about their business! I don't eat there all the time, but every time I do, the lady always remembers my name and asks me how I'm doing. You can feel good giving your money to Captain Jack's restaurant in exchange for their lovely fish and chips; big chain restaurants don't really need your money and have servers that will never remember you and don't really love their jobs. Captain Jack's, however, is an amazing, independent restaurant, run by a hard-working couple who deserve for their restaurant to thrive for many years to come. I recommend trying the mushroom soup as an appetizer; it's different from anything I've ever had, but quite delicious. You will clean your plate and come back again for more delicious deep-fried fish and chips goodness!

My wife and I have enjoyed many meals together at Romero's at their present location on Elmira and…read moreat their old location. The food is good and consistent and Sammy and his staff are always friendly and professional. We had not been for awhile but decided to spend another anniversary at Romero's, As usual the Caesar salads were very good as were our entrees. I decided to try the Fettucine Alfredo which I had never had here before. It was one of the best I have ever had. It was obvious that the cream was freshly made and not from a can or outsourced. Sadly though we did not receive complimentry bread which we have always in the past. Did not notice it on other's tables as well. Also, it must be said that this restaurant is in need of some TLC or renovations. The carpeting is long past its useful life and does nothing to add to the Italian atmosphere of the place. The banquet style chairs are also ugly and uncomfortable. We still love the place and will continue to come here as part of our staple restaurants we visit. At one time Romero's was really the only Italian restaurant I would recommend in Guelph. With Buon Gusto and La Cucina in town I think Romeros needs to reinvent themselves a bit.

This is a great place to have an Italian food restaurant. It is a smaller place with about 25…read moretables plus a patio for the summer but otherwise everything is great about the place. The meals are a good selection with somewhat larger portions, and very tasty on. I had the linguine Romero and the shrimp and scallops were very tasty and seemed to be fresh. The wine selection is not extensive but I just had the house wine and it was great. The prices are reasonable and the service is great. We were there on a Monday night and although we did not need a reservation the place was almost full. This is definitely a place to visit when in the area.

Friendly service and excellent food and drinks…read more Caesar: We'd never had this classic Canadian drink before and my partner really liked it. It was too spicy for me, but I could definitely appreciate it. Kind of like a quality shrimp cocktail sauce drink? Weird but good. Mostly salty/savory! Calm Collins: I'm not sure if I felt calm or not after this, but I enjoyed the drink nonetheless. Kind of like an arnold palmer, not too sweet or tangy. On the Wagon: Tastes just as described, though I think this one had dried lemon instead of candied ginger. A nice sipper, especially if you enjoy ginger drinks. 3 Sisters Salad: I love a Mendocino Farms Quinoa Kale salad (which I would order over most delicious junk food options), but this is likely my second favorite salad. The dressing is light and flavorful, slightly sweet, ever so slightly tangy. The puffed wild rice provided an excellent texture, very similar to crunchy quinoa. The chickpeas and corn added a savory and sweet mildly chewy texture. We added the trout and it was excellent on its own. Crispy skin, perfectly cooked and salted. Pan Roasted Chicken: I was surprised there was only one bone in this! The meat was tender and juicy, well cooked. I can't remember exactly how it tasted because we scarfed it down so fast, but trust that it was good. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie: You can't have a meal without dessert. The pie filling is similar to halva - sweet, soft, light and fine. Great to share between two, but would also be excellent for one...
