Mic Mac is…read moreconvenient to majour highways and offers shopping at big stores like The Bay, Zeller's, Shoppers Drug Mart, Toys R Us, and Winners/Home Sense. Mic Mac has a food court and plenty of specialty food places including Jugo Juice, Perks Coffee, Orange Julius, A&W, Starbucks, and Tim Horton's (yummo!). We did some shopping here recently to check out some stores such as HMV, Old Navy, Eddie Bauer, Sony Style, and The Source At Circuit City. MicMac is a good size mall, but it was very crowded inside on a Saturday morning and we had to park way out in East Bumf--k. Anyways, we spent a good 90 minutes shopping here. I picked up a few things on sale at Old Navy and Winners and had a good cup of coffee at Perks. Next stop for us was, Downtown Halifax for an afternoon of chill time.

You'll find a fabulous Pete's Frootique, stocked quite differently from the one downtown and right next door is Cristall & Luckett Wine Merchants with a great wine selection from around the world. As for fashion, there are clothes for kids at Bib & Tucker, as well as a number of shops for men and women that are unique and not your typical mall selection. One of my favorite shops is Uncommon Gear a very eco friendly place to buy toys, games and gear from strollers to every other nurturing thing kids need. Several home decor and foodie focused shops like Cucina Moderna, Backyard & Veranda (that has lots of stuff for indoors as well). There's even a branch of Stokes (always has sales and fun kitchen gear). The far end of the mall has travel agency, shoe repair...and more, plus access to Canadian Tire. And lastly, if you're into local handicrafts, there's a market just for you on Sundays from 11-5.

That being said, it has some unique stores and a pleasant artsy vibe (especially on the end of the mall that houses Pete's Frootique). The mall is mainly centered around Pete's Frootique as a prime destination, and prime destination it is.. It's somewhat comparable to "Whole Foods" in the US albeit on a smaller scale, but it makes up for its small size with a huge variety of food items that you are unlikely to find anywhere else in the city. The mall also has a variety of the standard cell phone carrier stands, a (too?) small Indigospirit bookstore, Mark's work wearhouse, Hallmark etc. The food court is small but the quality and health consciousness of the non-chain food vendors here makes it a very attractive to stop by for a meal... especially if you enjoy fresh ingredients and want a break from the monotony and excessive food processing offered by the standard fast food chains.

Summer in the city wouldn't be the same without the Bishop's Landing Piazza!…read more Everyone knows that all the cool kids stroll the waterfront on a pretty regular basis from June to October and until the section in between Bishop's and Pier 21 fills out a bit, the piazza is a great turn around spot where you can pick up some lovely hand-paddled ice cream or a caffé Italiano for the walk back. That, or a final destination where you can gorge on wine and carbs from the Bicycle Thief or Ristorante A Mano. Either way works marvelously! There's a cute fountain that attracts the usual crowd of running toddlers, a nice café for summer drinks, art, crafts, fashion, jewelry and tons more in this handful of local boutiques. Day or night, it's a lovely spot for a European getaway without the passport hassle or expensive flights! My favourite thing, though, has to be running into friends who are all trying to make it in to Bishop's Cellar before closing time. There's something so delightfully classy about getting wasted when it all begins with a visit here :)

It looks like it has a lot of potential to be cool. It's on several levels with a few shops on each level - reminds me of those multi-level homes. The stores that are there are mid-higher price range stores. However, the food court in the basement looks very dated and a bit out of place. Spring Garden Place is a strange little complex. Everytime I go to Halifax I go there, but I have never actually purchased anything there.

I feel bad for their coffee shop though with Starbucks opening up upstairs. It's a very quiet place (except for the Starbucks of course). It's functional but it's not exactly a shopper's dream. Got a headache? There's a Lawton Drugs. Need to buy a co-worker a birthday card on your lunch break because you forgot it was their birthday? There's a Carlton Cards? Don't want to pay $4 for a card for this co-worker? There's a Dollarama! Spilled some coffee on your white skirt? There's a Reitman's so you can buy a new skirt then drop off your dirty skirt at the dry cleaners. You get the idea. In my opinion, there are no cool shops here or any fashionable stores, just functional get the job done kind of places. The food court has a nice mix of chain and independent places.

You've got the mall standards - a Starbucks, a Lawtons, Carlton Cards, etc. - but you've also got some locally owned places, especially in the food court. I love having the option to buy somewhere that's more local even in a mall. I'm not going to lie though, I mostly come here because my doctor's office is here and it's got one of the best stocked Lawton's for makeup in the city.

There was no one working in automotive (apparently both employees need to take a break at the same time?). Then one of the mechanics had problems logging back into the computer so instead of working he spent the next 30 minutes talking about the computer. NEVER AGAIN!

Well, it's better than Bayers Lake…read more .... I should probably elaborate on that then, eh? Look, I'm not a fan of these huge sprawling shopping districts. I'd much rather a mall where I can park and walk around. I know, I know, half of these stores wouldn't fit into your typical mall but I have to think the carbon footprint would be lower. Not that I'm going to start an environmental rant but form a pure user perspective, it's frustrating. It's park, go into store, walk out, drive to next store, park, and repeat. With all those reservations, Dartmouth Crossing does do better than some other shopping areas. For one thing, there are some sidewalks! And not one, but two, bus routes that service the area! They have also tried to create a "shopping district" within the larger area that focuses on clothing (mostly women's) in a "Main street" approach which is a nice change of pace. Areas for improvement: some of the intersections that are four-way stops should probably be converted to lights. Some of the "newer" sections don't have crosswalks - get on that.

Park Lane is a little mall smack dab in the middle of downtown Halifax. It's not huge but has some…read morecool stores. They have several shoe stores that sell cool brands like Fluevog, Fly London and Miz Mooz. They also have a Samuel and Co. that carries Canadian designers like Neon Buddha, Joseph Ribkoff and Frank Lyman. It won't take you long to do the whole mall, as it's fairly small.
