Mic Mac is…read moreconvenient to majour highways and offers shopping at big stores like The Bay, Zeller's, Shoppers Drug Mart, Toys R Us, and Winners/Home Sense. Mic Mac has a food court and plenty of specialty food places including Jugo Juice, Perks Coffee, Orange Julius, A&W, Starbucks, and Tim Horton's (yummo!). We did some shopping here recently to check out some stores such as HMV, Old Navy, Eddie Bauer, Sony Style, and The Source At Circuit City. MicMac is a good size mall, but it was very crowded inside on a Saturday morning and we had to park way out in East Bumf--k. Anyways, we spent a good 90 minutes shopping here. I picked up a few things on sale at Old Navy and Winners and had a good cup of coffee at Perks. Next stop for us was, Downtown Halifax for an afternoon of chill time.

I'd much rather a mall where I can park and walk around. I know, I know, half of these stores wouldn't fit into your typical mall but I have to think the carbon footprint would be lower. Not that I'm going to start an environmental rant but form a pure user perspective, it's frustrating. It's park, go into store, walk out, drive to next store, park, and repeat. With all those reservations, Dartmouth Crossing does do better than some other shopping areas. For one thing, there are some sidewalks! And not one, but two, bus routes that service the area! They have also tried to create a "shopping district" within the larger area that focuses on clothing (mostly women's) in a "Main street" approach which is a nice change of pace. Areas for improvement: some of the intersections that are four-way stops should probably be converted to lights. Some of the "newer" sections don't have crosswalks - get on that.

Not a mall per se, because it isn't one self contained pod of human odours and indoor stuffiness, but a shopping mecca for sure. So many stores for whatever your needs. Clothing, shoes, sporting goods, tools and hardware, Walmart (mecca of everything), food, house wares, and entertainment. You need something, you can find it in Dartmouth Crossing. After the Bayer's lake fiasco of driving, somewhere some engineer became smart! Getting into, around and out of Dartmouth Crossing is a breeze, turning lanes everywhere, little strips malls everywhere, box stores, and chains have there own little (large, humongous, gigantic) area. Not to mention the ten different ways in and out of the park. Driving through here is bliss, unlike Bayer's Lake where I'm pretty sure the Devil resides! Dartmouth Crossing you get an A+++++ in my books!

You'll find a fabulous Pete's Frootique, stocked quite differently from the one downtown and right next door is Cristall & Luckett Wine Merchants with a great wine selection from around the world. As for fashion, there are clothes for kids at Bib & Tucker, as well as a number of shops for men and women that are unique and not your typical mall selection. One of my favorite shops is Uncommon Gear a very eco friendly place to buy toys, games and gear from strollers to every other nurturing thing kids need. Several home decor and foodie focused shops like Cucina Moderna, Backyard & Veranda (that has lots of stuff for indoors as well). There's even a branch of Stokes (always has sales and fun kitchen gear). The far end of the mall has travel agency, shoe repair...and more, plus access to Canadian Tire. And lastly, if you're into local handicrafts, there's a market just for you on Sundays from 11-5.

The mall is mainly centered around Pete's Frootique as a prime destination, and prime destination it is.. It's somewhat comparable to "Whole Foods" in the US albeit on a smaller scale, but it makes up for its small size with a huge variety of food items that you are unlikely to find anywhere else in the city. The mall also has a variety of the standard cell phone carrier stands, a (too?) small Indigospirit bookstore, Mark's work wearhouse, Hallmark etc. The food court is small but the quality and health consciousness of the non-chain food vendors here makes it a very attractive to stop by for a meal... especially if you enjoy fresh ingredients and want a break from the monotony and excessive food processing offered by the standard fast food chains.

Now it's empty shops, and fly by night stores (here today, gone tomorrow). Now even the big box stores, Winners, Shoppers and Zellers are packing up shop and leaving town. Shame, but the mall will likely be seeing the wreaking ball soon. Head elsewhere.

Summer in the city wouldn't be the same without the Bishop's Landing Piazza!…read more Everyone knows that all the cool kids stroll the waterfront on a pretty regular basis from June to October and until the section in between Bishop's and Pier 21 fills out a bit, the piazza is a great turn around spot where you can pick up some lovely hand-paddled ice cream or a caffé Italiano for the walk back. That, or a final destination where you can gorge on wine and carbs from the Bicycle Thief or Ristorante A Mano. Either way works marvelously! There's a cute fountain that attracts the usual crowd of running toddlers, a nice café for summer drinks, art, crafts, fashion, jewelry and tons more in this handful of local boutiques. Day or night, it's a lovely spot for a European getaway without the passport hassle or expensive flights! My favourite thing, though, has to be running into friends who are all trying to make it in to Bishop's Cellar before closing time. There's something so delightfully classy about getting wasted when it all begins with a visit here :)
