Overall a horrible experience, mediocre food, unclean environment, shockingly cold for an establishment. Staff were horrible and very sassy, had the Gaul to tell us that we lied about not receiving some of our items. Any other fast food retailer would make a much better experience. When in Flint I feel compelled to have a Halo Burger. Really, I want to go to the original location, pay homage to the Vernor's mural, and suck down a Boston Cooler in its shadow. But on my most recent outing, that location was closed. So it was off to this outpost of Halo goodness. There is something oddly cold and sterile about the modern branding of this classic institution. However, once you speak to one of the employees, one gets a glimpse of the character that is lurking behind the sanitized edifice. However, I do not come to Halo Burger for the branding, I come for the Olive Burger. For the sake of complete transparency, this is only my third visit to a Halo Burger, and only my second Olive Burger. Ever. The first was so memorable, that I became an instant fan, and will preach the gospel of Olive Burgers to anyone who will listen. It turns out they are even better when accompanied with deep fried cheese curds and a Boston Cooler. My last two Halo trips denied me of the joys of the Boston Cooler, as the machines at both of those prior locations were broken. It seems to be an issue even for the largest most successful fast food burger franchises. On its own, the Boston Cooler wasn't brilliant. It's still a quick service "shake" and tastes like one. These are better when blitzed with better ice cream. But as a part of the trinity of crispy gooey cheese curds, and a deeply savory burger, it worked beautifully. I also appreciated the fact I could get a small one, which was really just the perfect size for balancing all that salty, greasy goodness. And just so you know, a small order of fried cheese curds is probably sufficient for a family of four. It's not that the bag is large. It isn't. It's quite small. But dang, those things are heavy. All I needed was two or three bites to be satisfied, even though I finished the whole bag. I shudder to think of the fat, calories, and sodium in that meal. What I do know is that my body was craving water, lots of it, long into the night and even the next morning. But it was worth it! Next time I'll probably skip the cheese curds, although I expect I'll develop a taste for The Halo take on Boston Coolers. Hopefully my next outing will bring me back to the original location, as I'm sure being in the presence of those Vernor's gnomes will only heighten the experience. read more

While visiting Flint, I had heard about Halo burgers from someone on TikTok and had to give it a try. I went inside and the place was spotless - very clean. It was warm so they had two industrial fans going to move air - not really all that sanitary, but.. The menu options were good and my food was decent. I think the burger probably rates in the top 5 fast food burgers - not as good as Five Guys but slaughtering BK and McD's. The big place they fell down was customer service. I know, fast food employees usually aren't paid well but simple courtesy is expected, not monosyllabic grunts from the cashier. read more

An outstanding burger!! I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan , and ate more Mr. Fabulous olive burgers than I can remember at Mr. Fables. Mr. Fables was born from a Kewpee burger franchise in Grand Rapids. The double QP with olives was my first Halo burger. It won't be my last. I don't get to Flint often, but in the future, Halo burger will definitely be a stop we make when in town. We treated our Bullmastiff Oakleigh to an olive burger after her veterinarian appointment across the street. She loved it as much as we did and ate it in about half the time!! Say GOODBYE to Flint's Halo Burger. What once was a high quality burger with a unique taste & the best overflowing homemade fries with the Boston Cooler & the taste of Flint... is now dead & buried for all time. The Thomas family carried on a tradition of taste & quality that was a signature food for the Auto City only second to Anglos Coney Islands. I know because I ate there weekly for years & sometimes up to 3 times a week & it began with by splitting a large fry with classmates after a movie at the Capital Theater in 1965. The first new owners changed from the sweet Hunts ketchup to something a bit more bitter, went to a cheaper & harder textured bun with a slick surface with a totally different taste. They also bought preformed patties & lost the little crispy edge on the meat. The flavor of the new meat was covered up by throwing a slice of cheese as standard on the deluxe. Funny, I ordered a "deluxe with olives" & they had no idea what I was talking about! I tried once more this last week & as I try to minimize my "fried burger" consumption since I'm older ... it's a special treat for me. I remember being disappointed when they eliminated the friendly service, installed play scapes & quit bussing tables & started mopping the dinning area with the kitchen mop & spreading grease all over the floor. But for me the final straw was replacing the oversized thick fries slightly crisp on the outside & fluffy on the inside with what seems to be cheap thin greasy frozen fries you can get at arby's or other fast food joints. So blow the bugle & sound taps, cuz another Flint Icon is dead. Too bad they don't understand who they are in the market & why people like me have not only bragged about Flint Signature Burger & have treated travelers to them & transported them to surrounding cities. No more... like AC, Buick City & Chevy in the Hole... its gone for good. read more

First timer here....We hit their drive thru, it's all that's open right now. The place looks a little sad/rundown right now, but so do a lot of places in Flint. That's not the employees fault. The service though, seriously outstanding. Alicia was our drive they employee and it was like going thru ChicFilA. She was SO nice and explained all our choices and gave us great service. The burgers are a little greasy, but it was still good. Fries were great. We both tried the Boston Cooler and it really just tasted like a vanilla shake, not much Vernor's flavor at all, but still very good. Would return here again! read more

Amarion, at the Linden Rd location in Flint, MI, was quite rude during my visit. At the drive through, I asked him for Boom Boom sauce for my onion rings (in my experience, employees seem to become annoyed when I ask for that specifically. Amarion rolled his eyes and leaned back into the window and walked to who knows where(the sauce is never readily accessible. It took him almost 2 minutes)to get the sauce. When he returned, he shoved his arm out the window with my bag of food, Flippantly. I said thank you. Amarion did not respond. When I looked inside my bag, the single container of sauce appeared to have just been dropped in. The lid wasn't even on the container. Sauce was all over everything. All of this because I requested sauce?? Amarion's attitude was uncalled for. I could assume that it was just an accident, if not for him rolling his eyes prior. A lot of places are short staffed. We stopped because we needed to grab a quick bite(a few months ago)before heading up north we picked this because it had a play area and we figured my daughter could burn off a little energy....food was puny.tables in play area completely filthy and sticky...my daughter finished eating and went to play came back moments later and said "mom look". Halo Burger truly is absolutely disgusting. If you enjoy McDonald's or Burger King, but have never had the dubious honor of eating at Halo Burger, please lower your expectations in advance. When I think of Flint, MI I think of 3 things; General Motors, Michael Moore, and never leave your house unlocked! But if I was to think of a 4th, it would be Halo Burger! I've tasted burgers as far east as Boston & New York to as west as Las Vegas, and this is one of the best! There's something about their combination of the meat with onions and cheese (olives optional) that makes this burger joint what it is today. They've ben serving quality since 1929 and after you eat there it's apparent why this place is still in business. It's been rated Michigan's Best Burger in 2009 for a reason, and their double decker is their proof! I lived in Lapeer, MI most of my life (15 miles East) and whenever I made a visit into the craziness of Flint Town, I always found my oasis at Halo burger. Been here a few times before and never had any issues. Last time wasn't really that great. I had planned on eating in the restaurant, so I went inside and walked up to the counter and was ready to order. Their employee said I'll be right with you and started working on drive thru orders. The place wasn't busy and I was the only person in line to order. Same thing happened 3 more times - hand out a drive thru order, say ill be right with you. I gave up and started walking out. The girl behind the counter yells out I can still take your order. I was grouchy by then, and said ill just go through the drive thru- maybe then ill get decent service. I don't understand when I got my receipt that I was charged a dollar extra for swapping cheese. Hmm honest mistake. When I opened the wrapper, no olives...honest mistake. This is the second time to Flint in the last couple months and wanted to show my wife how good the Olive Burgers are at Halo and both times when we got the burgers there was not any olives on the burger. The first time we were already on the road and it was the noon rush so did not go back. This time we both took a bite out of our burgers and again no olives. There was just two cars in line so got back in the drive thru and told them about the olives and they said can they serve them on the side and I said yes. The two cars in front of me seem to take forever and we finale made it to the window and got the olives. By that time the burgers were cold. A classic Michigan thang is to add Green Olives to your burger. If you like Olives- you won't be sorry. I'm not an olive person, but once and a while, I crave the saltyness of this on my burger. I was heading up North on the Harley and saw the Halo Burger signs and decided to take a break and try one of these babies. I've driven by that sign a hundred times and thought about a Halo Burger each time. I was on a leisurely ride for a change and went for it. I turned the wrong way off the freeway and took a tour through part of Flint before I got my bearings and made it to the restaurant. I ordered the Double Supreme combo and enjoyed the meal. It was good, but not worth a special trip of at least an hour for it. They even have an olive burger which didn't sound good to me at all. I'll go 3 stars, but probably won't be back... read more

This is a pretty decent place. Service was very slow but I know why. Only 1 person running the whole show. Food was very delicious and it was worth the wait. Alright, alright... I'll be the first to admit that my love for Halo Burger really should cause you to raise your eyebrow. This is a fast food burger place located in Flint, Michigan; strike one. Most of the locations can be found in some sketchy areas; strike two. What you need to understand is that Halo burger is a Flint staple and should be sampled by anyone visiting or passing through. It has a cult following, so don't you dare utter a negative word about Halo Burger to anyone from Flint. The burgers are good when compared to McDonalds and the onion rings are much better than Burger King. But what makes Halo Burger the granddaddy of all fast food places in flint is the Boston Cooler. *Insert the sound of angels singing* For those that are not familiar, and why the hell would you be if you're reading a review, a Boston Cooler (which has nothing to do with Boston) is a beverage of vanilla ice cream blended with Verners (a Michigan based ginger ale). It. Is. Delicious. I have come across many who were skeptical, but soon saw the light. I have attempted to recreate this cup of magic in my own home and cannot for the life of me get it just right. I have been going to Halo Burger since before it was called Halo Burger. One of the best things about eating at Halo Burger is the total package that you get. Fantastic fresh hamburger, fantastic French fries and Vernors or other drinks. Unfortunately, the new ownership has chosen to change the French fries and as a result I am no longer so excited about eating there. A big part of the menu is no longer any good. The French fries are now limp, turn cold much quicker, greasier. I was able to try fries from another vendor that they are changing to but those fries are not much better, if any better than the newest ones. I heard a gentleman across the partition from me telling a couple of friends who were eating with him that coming to Halo Burger used to mean that you were getting the best French fries, but unfortunately that is no longer the case. It sounded like he too is a long standing customer. I have friends who want to go to Halo Burger first thing when they come in from out of town.
