I have been getting my hair done by Diane since I was in my 20's! I am now bringing my granddaughter to have her hair done at Halo. I have never had a bad cut and Diane's skills with color are incredible. I get frequent compliments on my cut and color, and Diane is careful that I don't get too set in my ways. She will suggest when at least a slight change is needed. The salon is a serene hospitable environment and Leroy and Diane be sure to make their clients comfortable. Someone mentioned this to be like a salon you would see in New York. I couldn't agree more! And my granddaughter looks fabulous also! read more

If the phone experience is anything like the in-store customer service I'll have to pass. It was treated rudely on the phone and basically told that because I did not purchase something there. They could not take care of it. I'm newer to the area and have extensions. They specialize in aqua extensions exactly what I have however, they refuse to service me because they didn't get the profit initially for ordering the extensions please keep in mind. It cost us Salon $250 to order these extensions however when the cost is passed down to the customer, it's well over $1100. I just had these installed in March and the hair is estimated to last approximately a year not if I can't find someone to service them and just because they didn't make the profit on the initial sale they don't want to service my extensions. Not a very good look for a salon. It's been around a long time and an icon to Brady Street. Shame on them. I hope this review stops anybody else from being treated like this. I mean, if you're not that confident in your work, just say we don't know what we're doing because it certainly came off that way read more

Had many great cuts over the past few years at Halo until recently- their stylists have relocated. Received a $100 cut from the owner that was terribly asymmetrical, went back for a correction (no apology) and walked out with a symmetrical cut with no flair- could have paid $40 tops. read more

Megan gave me the hair of my dreams. I had a previous hairdresser at a different salon make a first pass on my brown virgin hair on my quest to get white hair. I was super underwhelmed with the results and set on a quest to find a salon that offered olaplex and had someone experienced with white blondes. I found halo and on their instagram were a few photos of white blondes done by Megan. I booked an appointment and was able to get in quicker than I even needed to. Also the week before the appointment I wanted to come in for a consultation to make sure she was going to be able to achieve what I was looking for. She made time for me the next day and was super kind and reassuring. I went in that weekend and she did a wonderful job. Going white is a process and you have to keep that in mind especially if your hair is darker. It's going to take multiple bleachings. Even given that fact, I think I am only going to have to go in once more for a touch up around my bangs and face to reach my goal. The facility is nice and clean and all the other hairdressers were nice and helpful to one another and the clients. read more

Enough is enough. Halo is the ONLY salon I have trusted my hair to since moving to Milwaukee in 2008 and the outdated reviews currently on the page simply do not properly reflect this high end salon. I am constantly complimented on my hair, which is particularly flattering considering I've had short hair until last year when I've decided to grow it out. (Yes, that means I'm STILL getting complimented on my style and color in the awkward grow-out phase). Michael is a Vidal Sassoon Academy trained stylist and instructor. His cuts are modern and technically sophisticated to ensure that the hair cut looks great as it grows out. Diane, one of the owners of the salon, is a master colorist. I've asked for both subtle color and more dramatic highlights over the past few years and whatever my preferences, Diane can exceed the expectations for proper color, blending, and placement. The small Halo staff is friendly and accommodating. The decor in the salon is hip and funky. No matter what kind of mood I'm in when I arrive to my appointment, I leave the salon looking and feeling great every time. There is literally one downside to this salon - the cost. But I learned a long time ago that you get what you pay for. The attention to detail, technical skills, and overall end product makes me a lifer at Halo. One more thing to note, Halo is certified to do Brazilian Blowouts. I get it. I love it. Finally, a piece of advice. These people are experts in their field. Micromanaging every move they make is a great way to mess up the masterpiece. You wouldn't tell your accountant how to do every calculation right? Tell them what you want and trust that whether or not it's exactly what you had in your mind, you're going to leave looking amazing!! read more

A few years back when I was younger and more impressionable I came here to get a haircut. I thought because they were on Brady Street that I would get a fantastic haircut and be elated...not. My colour and cut was me $220.00...NEVER AGAIN! I was clearly in an altered state of mind. My colour washed out fast...and I did follow up to complain. They asked if I wanted to come back in and I said hell no. Sure they have an array of lovely beverages and snack items...but I don't need all that. read more

I saw Diane for root retouch 3 XX and each time she had to redo it. Once I had to come back another day so she could fix it. She just couldn't get the color right..always too light and too red. But if I didn't say anything and point it out she'd just let me walk out like that. The last time I stayed while she did it over again and it still wasn't right..looked horrible. She's the owner she should know better! It was at least a shade lighter than the rest of my hair. All the while trying to up sell me products. I'm in the spa business, I get it but...I know what you're doing. Also, I brought in a hair piece that I wanted bangs cut into because sometimes I want bangs and it also covers up my root outgrowth..she said sure she can do that. Well, SHE CUT BANGS INTO MY OWN HAIR ALSO! WTF! left after being there over 3 hours (again!) and minus $100 and bangs cut into my own hair and a sh*tty color job. I'm fussy about my hair. Well, that's a bit of an understatement - I'm a hard to please meticulous fanatic when it comes to my hair. I guess the less people know that about me the better, but there it is Internets, the truth about the dark and unhealthy relationship I have with my hair. Several years ago in my old city I had a guy, I went to him for years. He was amazing at what he did, and when I was getting ready to move to Milwaukee, there was the hair issue... I needed that taken care of. So I looked, and I researched, and finally I called Halo and gave it a shot. Paige did my hair, and since then I've not even looked for alternatives. What is really sad about this world that we live in is that you Dont bother calling Diane to let her know that you're upset with the service she did. While I was passing on Brady street, this place caught my eye with its chic decor. Next week, I felt very adventurous and made an appointment for a cut. The salon has a very modern design with an art deco twist. When you step into the salon, you can actually think that you are in NYC salon. The people and service is really nice. My stylist was very considerate and tried really hard to make me happy with my color and cut. They also offer hair cut for men, my fiancee got one and we were very happy with it. We both are planning to go back there for our next cut. read more

Ok in reference to the latest review above (well now I think its below), I'm glad that you had a great experience at Halo, but to say my review or others are "outdated" or that they don't "accurately reflect" the salon is condescending. These were our experiences at this salon--yours was different and you love your hair and that is great. Let's start by saying that I am a guy, so I have different needs. After several visits, here is my take: Pro's - Professional Hair Cut, Knowledgable Professionals Con's - Really expensive ($55 for a men's Hair Cut which is pretty basic - tooks 20 minutes). Girl at the counter is clueless - when I am talking with you and the phone rings, please don't answer the phone and talk for 5 minutes while I'm standing there. Frankly, maybe my expectations are unrealistic but a) Brady St. is not NY, so why pay $55 for a basic cut b) if I want to be treated rudely by the counter girl, there are plenty of places that I can go and have that happen. read more

Diane at Halo is a magician! Loved the whole experience at Halo. I hadn't seen my sister in a few months, and when I picked her up from the airport, my mouth dropped open. Absolutely THE BEST her hair has looked in years. She was visiting me at my home in Memphis, and when she asked for help with blow drying the back of her head (bad shoulder), I decided I had to have my hair cut by her stylist. Layers that made sense. Perfectly proportioned. Very little to no effort when drying- her hair just fell into place. I found myself in Milwaukee in Diane's chair shortly after this visit. The only request I had was to give me bangs and to make my long chopped up unrelated layers flow. Ha, that's it! It had been a looooonnnggg time since I had been in the chair of a stylist that cut hair this effortlessly but yet meticulously. Heaven!!! I had to stifle a squeal when she was blowing my hair dry and i could see how shiny and flowing it was. And the Divine products she used obviously were just that, divine! When she offered to do my makeup as well, I said YES! I love makeup, but I don't have the patience to find the right person at the right counter to help me through all the choices. Without any expectations, Diane made me up, and I actually loved it! I typically want to wipe off at least half of what is applied. She had a keen eye for balance and seemed to sense exactly what i needed. Purchased the primer, mineral base makeup and lip color. Need to call back and get the greenish-brown/black liner. Loved how the the mascara went on and looked, but my sensitive eyes did not. Got home to Memphis, and although the hair products that I currently used were doing their job (intelligent Nutrients) it wasn't the same as the Divine line. I sent an email to Halo to inquire about which products Diane used in particular. I got a quick response, and Leroy said he could shipped out whatever i needed. I pondered a purchase (since i still had plenty of the IN). Well two days later, I get a package with Divine shampoo, conditioner and styling milk. Whaaaaa? Complimentary products? Sent to my door? These people know hair and fabulous service. Yes, I will fly back to Milwaukee to have my hair cut and styled by Diane. Cutting hair well is an art and science, and Diane, is a beautiful genius, IMHO. Make an appointment. Now! read more

I've been to this salon twice - once after strolling Brady, and just deciding to pop in and check out the salon. I asked about a service and everyone was friendly, and one stylist was very helpful. The second time, that particular stylist ended up doing my hair. The entire experience, from customer service to her doing my hair, was great! They must have gotten rid of their front desk, because no one answered the phone when I attempted to make another appointment! A month after I got my hair done there, I called to set-up an appointment for a haircut/dye, but no one answered. I called once more that day and left a message. I then called the following day, and still no answer. Someone eventually ended up returning my call nearly a week later. It's unfortunate, I DID like the salon, but how can I if I can't make a simple appointment? read more

Very Rude and indifferent! Tuesday March 27, 2012 about 12:50 in the afternoon I came up to the glass door and I could see a young woman at the front desk smiling and looking at her computer while talking with a man with bad highlights like they used to have in the '80s on the other side with his back to me. I turned the door handle but it was locked, then I rang their door bell, but she kept smiling and moving her mouth. Only until another women with either pimples or moles all over her face got out of a car, walked past me and asked, "If I needed anything?" I said, "I want to get a hair cut." and as the women on the inside buzzed her in she said walking past me, "Oh, were closed." and left me outside. I waited for about 30 seconds and realized she was not interested in helping me at least with salon hours, a business card or an appointment. The hours of the salon were not noticeable on the windows. I already felt down because of my hair and now I was minimized, so I didn't want to stand outside their salon and search for hours of operation when they could of easily told me. I don't know why in this economy they would treat potential customers this way! I was willing to pay their inflated $45 price for a stylish men's haircut but at this point, I will not give them a cent! read more

I love Halo. I've been going for several years now and have had a wonderful visit each and every time. Michael cuts my hair and I've had a two different colorists (I don't get color very often). I started going with a very short hair cut and now have a length well past my shoulders. I never had an awkward grow-out phase...ever. Yes, it's pricey; but I personally believe that it's worth every penny. The prices are similar to those I paid when I lived in Dallas - and the two cities are, technically, in the same market type. For what I get, I have no problem paying for it. I heard about it from a friend, who had a friend who went there, who was referred by a friend - long way to say that it was word of mouth that led all of us to get our hair done there. The staff are professional, talented, and genuinely nice people. I have great conversations while I'm there and always leave looking great and in a wonderful modd. I LOVE Halo! (formerly Diva) I lived off Brady Street and stumbled upon this salon - thank goodness! My hair is thick, curly 80's hair and no one seems to know how to cut it. I have been through okay to really bad hairstylists. But Diane, the owner of Halo, is one of the only few people I will allow because she is an artist! I went today for a color touch-up, and Diane was busy so Jennifer took me. She is also Phenomenal! My hair is gorgeous! They use the best product and have such a welcoming, calm, friendly environment. Leroy always has fresh, beautiful flowers and a sweet personality to go along with them. You do pay for what you get - and you also get back what you give (for the haters). They also have a blow dry salon across the street - Pin Up. I can't wait to go back! :) read more

Went here to get my hair dyed blonde and was charged over $350! The website lists coloring as $80 and highlights at $95, so I have no idea how my hair could have cost that much money. I was in the salon for five hours and realized its because the colorist screwed up my color an gave me a toner and shine treatment that cost me an extra $100! My hair is not even blonde it's orange! Diane seemed really sweet and knowledgable but now I feel completely taken advantage of since it was my first time dying my hair. For this price, I should not have to go to anther colorist to fix my hair. So disappointed. read more

I got eyelashes done here by a lovely lady named Keziah. Though she was friendly and seemed very knowledgeable about the product, she clearly had no clue what she was doing. My lashes feel like they were attached with cement and they look like clumpy tarantula legs! I wanted to have her fix them, but I didn't want to risk getting stabbed in the eye by her tweezers again. Too much glue and too many stab wounds from her tweezers. I will never, ever return. read more

Yes- Halo is not cheap but both Jenn and Sarah are amazing- the salon is cute and my blow outs always look great and the company is second to none- great conversation-Leroy bends over backwards with scheduling- the even opened once for me on a day they were closed because it was an important event that I was attending- Halo is well worth the $$! I received the Coppala Keratin Complex treatment with Michael Potter last week and I could not be more thrilled with the results!!! I have incredibly thick and extremely coarse hair which has been difficult to manage all my life. To blow dry and flat iron it was a daunting and time-consuming task which a dreaded with a passion. Michael is one of the only people who knows how to deal with cutting my thick hair and when he recommended this treatment for my hair I was very reluctant. However, this treatment has completely changed the look and texture of my hair for the better! I am wondering why I didn't try this sooner! I was poked several times with a tweezer while they were being applied and when they were finished my eyes were pretty much glued shut because she did not let them dry in a timely manner and the worst is I developed an allergic reaction from them...go some place else! read more

Halo's Salon has to be one of the best Salons in Milwaukee. The team there does a fantastic job and yes, they take their trade very seriously. I would agree that on very rare occasions, the "counter girl" could have done a better job and I "raised the flag" to the owner, Diane... However, I go there to have my hair cut, enjoy a relaxing moment and Halo never fails. The location is ideal, the service is of excellent quality, the team there is a team of professionals. For me, after having experienced many salons in Milwaukee, I am convinced that this is the best salon downtown. read more

I experience great angst about changing hairdressers. But when I saw two gals with greats cuts and both went to Michael at Halo, I gave it a try. The cut he gave me was a precision cut and NO MATTER what I do when I style it, my hair goes back to his cut which is an amazing cut. One of the best cuts ever. Maybe THE best. I agree re: the bad reviews--after moving to MKE I went to a number of different salons looking for the perfect stylist, and I am SO GLAD I finally found Michael at Halo! The salon is comfortable, welcoming; I regularly get a brow wax here too and they always do a great job. But the real reason I keep coming back is that Michael is an amazing stylist--he's a total perfectionist and it's totally worth it. I've been getting minor variations on the same basic cut for years, but Michael stepped it up, like, ten notches--and every time I go, it gets better. I've lived in bigger cities w/ more choices in terms of salons, but Michael is the best yet. read more
