This is an old time family burger joint. Enjoy yourself and the atmosphere. These type of establishments are going by the wayside. Seriously. Just get out of bed early and eat here. (They close at 8pm; and there will be tumbleweeds blowing down the street if you are there that late.) I detoured from the I-40 on the way to OKC during a cross-country jaunt. So. Worth. We got to Hamburger King around 1:30 PM during the week. There was still a line! We ended up sitting at the counter, since there was open seating there. The service was friendly and quick! The three people in our party all got cheeseburgers - all were yummy, thin-patty burgers, that reminded me (and don't shoot me, HK purists and Shawnee locals) of Sonic burgers. The potato wedges were crispy and delicious! Tater tots were also good, but I could have used a few more on the plate. You can tell this is a much loved spot in this town. We will be back next time we're in Shawnee! read more

I've been eating these hamburgers for 45 of my 58 years. Good things never grow old. This place still carries its '70's decor. Walking into this joint reminds me of high school. The cheese burgers are the thin patty, flat top grill burgers with a grill toasted bun, American cheese only, fresh veggies. Mmm mmm, good. The red phone is the best! Pick it up, make your order, it gets delivered. Excellent. This is how all restaurants should work. The food was pretty good - come on guys, it's a greasy spoon, what can I say - even for a poor little child that doesn't touch red meat like me. My Mum grew up in this town and swears the same guy behind the counter has been there since the seventies, and is the exact same age. He's very friendly - clearly HK is his baby. It's not too clean, it has excellent signage outside and the whole feel is of a bygone era. It was eery walking in, it could have been the sixties. The burgers are still good compared to many of the fast food chain burgers, but not nearly as good as they were in the 60s, 70s! The flavor is gone and the size has shrunk considerably! My burger was yummy. The place is unique. Prices very reasonable! Mom and I shared a double meat, double cheese burger with wedges. Everything tasted great. Only minor issue (which I warned my mother about) the burger came with a toothpick in the middle. I warned her to be careful with it. She took it out but apparently I little piece had broken off inside the burger. She bit into it but no harm was done. read more

These guys know how to serve a burger. The patties are just the right size and always cooked fresh to order. Grab the "kicker" for a good spicy change to the usual burger flavor. I frequent this place as often as possible and the service has never been anything but friendly and prompt. There's something special about a building that has a hand in the story of a town, something lovely about bricks whose edges have been nibbled by years of sunlight, and mural paintings with smiling faces along the street. Everyone says: you have to try Hamburger King. It's as much about the experience as the food. No lies: it's a little dingy. Nostalgia or not, this rates a full 5 stars on the blows-a-meter! Firstly, I have been coming here off and on since I was a child always looking for that elusive good hamburger - never to find it! The patties are not homemade and are obviously in the same vein as the pre-fab, pre measured frozen patties from Shawnee's other abysmal contribution to society - Sonic... You would think that a place that touts itself as the "Hamburger King" would have scrumptious, thick homemade patties and homemade fries but alas they are nothing more than the same pre fab tripe you get at every other fast food establishment. In Shawnee, it is apparently blasphemy to badmouth this so-called institution but I'll just go ahead and say it -it sucks! I will say that they have cleaned it up over the past few years so it doesn't look so rundown, greasy and roach infested as it has but other than that - and the novelty of ordering your dinner on a phone - it offers nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, I would say that the horrid chain Denny's - yes Denny's - has better hamburgers than the self-appointed "Hamburger King." Hands down! And shame on all of the locals that will claim to their dying breath that this is a fantastic place to get a burger. You are either caught up in the nostalgia of this place or have such pedestrian tastes and are a complete rube that you can't see how atrocious this "institution" really is. Hamburger King is a bit of Shawnee nostalgia. My parents went there on dates while they were attending OBU in the 1940's. It was still the same great place in the 1990's when I lived there. If in Shawnee, you should really go experience it! read more

Loved this place - wedge fries were excellent. I had the fried catfish sandwich and really enjoyed it. I also had a bite of my husband's bacon burger and thought it was good as well. The ambiance will take you back 50 years. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Ok, first off, the outside of the business is incredibly deceiving. My impression from the outside was another small town greasy burger joint (which there is nothing wrong with that), but when we walked in, it was about 3x bigger then I though it would be, 2x cleaner and it was packed! I ordered "The Kicker" double patty, pepper jack cheese, bacon, grilled onions and all the other fix'ns. It was great, the peppers were the perfect addition! The burgers were not as greasy as most small burger joints, and the tots and potato wedges are must have addition to the meal. The patties were not quite as thick as I usually like, but they weren't burnt and the great flavor made up for it. The pies looked great but I was just too stuffed after the burger to get a piece, next time I may just have to start with pie. read more
