These burgers are HUGE. You can get a cheeseburger basket (with potato wedges) for under 4 bucks. At Hamburger King, you sit down at your table, look at the menu, then pick up the red phone attached to the wall at your booth and give your order to the operator (who's actually only a few feet away behind the counter). They cook it fresh for you and then bring it out. Lovely little place where all the locals go. It has a nice diner vibe and you place your order in a telephone at your table. Luckily I arrived early because this place really seems to fill up with regulars around noon. I saw in some older reviews that they are cash only - they actually take cards now, except American Express. I enjoyed a hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and hush puppy sticks. You'll be hard pressed to find a better fried onion burger short of driving to El Reno, Oklahoma but this is a good match without the 130 mile round trip. Reminds me of every classic burger I had as a kid with my grandfather visiting Oklahoma from Ohio. Now I get to eat it every time I pass through Shawnee. The burgers are consistently good. This teenie little, somewhat run down, burger joint makes up for appearances with amazing, fresh, consistently awesome burgers and fries that bring back so many memories and satisfy every time. Lunch time there is always a crowd, especially when school is in session so get there early. Plenty of parking in the back and there is a rear entrance as well. Only con is that I wish they had some tables that sat more than 4. It's a little offputting to go in larger groups then have to split up. read more

This place is so good. It also has historical value that I love to expose my kids to. The ordering from a phone at the booth is a nice touch and a good conversation piece for the kids. Based on nostalgia alone, Hamburger King is a 5 star establishment. However, they provide more than simply nostalgia. The fact that you order by phone at your table takes you back to simpler days which lends it self to stopping and smelling the roses a bit as you take your stroll through taste bud memory lane. My triple cheeseburger, which was priced low enough to almost feel guilty as if I had just raided the forbidden cookie jar with permission, was perfectly cooked with a tremendous amount of flavor without the ordinary mess accompanied by something that tastes so good. Large doses of love is applied to the process in this joint from beginning to end. And the fries? People don't put this kind of pride in what too many have neglected for so long. There is a reason why rare places like this last so long. They Care! This is one of those places you walk away from feeling like a part of yourself will remain in the building until it is long gone and I suspect that would be an infinite amount of time before that comes. Our experience was the perfect cap to our visit to Shawnee, Oklahoma. Just one more reason to visit again! read more
