I also love the huge selection of magazines they have here. I fee like I want for nothing. There are computers to use at the library, they will help you sign in. Check this out - WiFi is free, you don't need a password and upstairs near the card catalog is CHARGING station! Last time I was here I was on crutches so I was very thankful for the elevator. My final tip - download the "Stockcard" apt for iPhones and scan your library card along with many others. The marker reads, "The Cincinnati Museum of Natural History is part of Cincinnati Museum Center. The Western Museum Society, organized by Dr. Daniel Drake in 1818, preceded it. The Western Museum Society's collection was built around ornithology, fossil zoology, geology, and Native American artifacts. The Museum's first taxidermist, John James Audubon, was hired in the winter of 1819 to do taxidermy, build collections, and create exhibits. Audubon supplemented his income by drawing portraits, teaching art, and running his own drawing academy. During his brief stay in Cincinnati, Audubon created five paintings of local birds that were among the first contributions to his acclaimed Birds of North America. Stopped in to get a FBI/BCI background check. The office is on the first level of the justice…read morecenter. Plenty of parking up front and around, I'm sure it can get pretty busy though. The sheriffs office is open 24/7 to check in inmates. This comes in handy when you just need a background check, no appointments needed since they're literally open all the time. We were in and out in about 15 minutes. The lady up front was so kind and nice. I was expecting someone harsh who is used to dealing with inmates but we got the complete opposite. I really appreciate her willingness to let us in the back office so my little could play. Underneath a cute aquarium is a stack of sheriffs coloring books, crayons and junior deputy badges. It's so refreshing to have this available for our kids. Hubs was fingerprinted in no time, electronically. The cost was $66 and it takes 6-8 weeks for the results to come back via webcheck. The lady was very thorough and made sure our paperwork had all the right codes and addresses to be sent to.

The land was located along the line of the Hamilton, Cincinnati and Dayton Railroad. The town was planned, lots were sold and the first house was built in 1852. Glendale is one of the earliest known examples of a planned community. Today, this historic downtown area is worth a stopover if you are in the area. The town is absolutely beautiful and still offers some of the most beautiful and breathtaking homes in the surrounding area...you can only imagine the things they've seen. The village's business district straddles the tracks near Sharon Road. There are restaurants, shops, etc. The town is also known for its black squirrels and is unofficially known as Ohio's black squirrel town. As the story goes (and don't quote me)...the credit for the black squirrels being there goes to businessman Thomas Carruthers III. Back in the 1940s he brought four black squirrels to Glendale from Harbor Springs, Michigan. Squirrels do what squirrels do and reproduced. So, yes...there are still plenty of black squirrels in this area and they are fascinating. If you've never seen one, you may rub your eyes to make sure of what you're seeing the first time...well...you are seeing correctly and not imagining it. The squirrels have become the village's unofficial mascot. In 2005, to celebrate the sesquicentennial of Glendale, the mayor at the time hired a company to create 25 fiberglass black squirrel statues. The folks who owned each statue could decorate them any way they wanted and they were all on display in 2005. Sadly, only 13 can still be seen today. I personally tried to spot as many as I could, but I didn't find all 13. There is supposed to be a map available of where they are located inside the museum in the town square. However, the museum was closed when we visited, but please keep this in mind if you want to seek them all out. I hope they do it again sometime in the future...it's pretty cool. The clerk was very…read morehelpful but the manager Jordan, went out of his way to help me with a situation that has been going on for almost 2 years. He took the time to personalize and write out a letter explain to me in detail what was going on and made himself available for any questions that I have in the future. And that The business that I'm dealing with now has all of his personal information in case there is another situation. I greatly appreciate the professionalism as well as the great attitude and friendliness. I am extremely happy that this is my new neighborhood. I live in Villa Hills. And it's a WEEKLY ritual now taking mail delivered to the wrong address to…read moremy neighbors or neighbors bringing me my mail, lost packages or packages in box with no key left. One particular carrier's day is spent on socializing insteadi of paying attention to his job. He has been suspended more than once but is back even more incompetent than before. If our mail looks important or official it will surely be lost or delayed. If it looks like junk we get all he can shove in the box. I am now missing 3 medications that they said was delivered on Friday. Nowhere to be found.

My favorite part about this library is the events they host in the evening for adults. I love all of the crafting events! These are always sign up only and fill up quickly. They post about the events on the Facebook page and tell you what day sign ups begin. You can sign up online but I find it best to call in early that day and sign up. I've attended a few painting classes, wine glass painting, book purse making, etc. We eat, we chat, we craft! It's a great girls night activity! And if they happen to have another murder mystery night, do yourself a favor and sign up! The actors are interactive and they let you explore the library to find clues and grill the suspects.
