For me, I judge a business on how it handles things when things go a little sideways. We purchased some steaks that weren't quite to our or their standards. I've been shopping here for years, for everything from whole hogs and half beefs to single cuts of meat or a pound of bacon. The quality and service were always supreme. Today, I called several times, trying to get onto the list for a quarter beef and half hog. Twice, they put me on hold and never picked my call back up. A return call afterwards went straight to voicemail. Finally, a young lady picked up another call (number four? Five?) and put me on an extended hold...only to come back and tell me that they're not going to be able to do a quarter beef and/or half hog until at least spring. Her tone was that of, "it's not going to happen, so don't even bother." WOW! What a change! It's sad to see such a wonderful local business absolutely TANK in their customer service. I'm disappointed, to say the least, and will take my business elsewhere. read more

Very disappointed. Two years in a row I have called in to reserve a prime rib. Both times when I came in to pick up, they had no record of my reservation. Both times they tried to sell me larger more expensive cuts. Like to support local businesses, but will shop Costco next time. read more

This place is the bomb! Probably some of the best steaks i ever had. I got 2 big ass ribeye steaks here and fed a family of 4 and my sister for days. We just grilled them up with salt and pepper on the ol bbq and they were so juicy and tender. I cannot wait to go back. This is the place for all of your meat needs. Trust me. Just starting going to Hamilton Packing. Everything I have bought has been great.... Bacon, pork loin, steaks ( both filet mignon, and rib eye), and their many varieties of jerky. The place is always very busy which I view as a good sign, but sometimes patience is in order. Staff is friendly, courteous, and have always been able to answer my questions. read more

we purchased a "full tank"80 pounds of meat! probably 30% of the cow steaks were packaged brown and already south smelling! There is no way that they couldn't have known that they were selling disgusting meat. Of course a few months later when we start thawing it for eatin, and we're out of town, we start seeing this! I know Christmas time is busy for a meat shop but 2 years in a row now Hamilton Packing has not been good. We reserved a prime rib the past 2 years and when we show up they don't have our name down. This year I reserved a prime cut prime rib @ $15.99/LB. I sent my teenage son to pick it up while I was at work. They didn't have my name down again but had prime ribs to sell. They sold my teenage son a choice cut @ $24.99/lb without asking what kind he wanted. Seems they recognized he was younger and didn't know what exactly to do. Good meat, Poor customer service. These folks run one hell of a business. Took my sons whitetail in for processing and we got the absolute best product back. I have taken game to all processors in Missoula, Lolo, and Superior and Hamilton packing is by far superior. Seems to me that quality and care goes into their product more so than others in the Bitterroot and Missoula valley's. Worth the drive down the Bitterroot from Frenchtown. Well done! read more

Generally ok but not as good as it was before the new owners. We have been disappointed since the change. Filets and rib eyes are not as good as before. Saw that a truck from Washington is being used as a supplier, too. Don't know if that is a new development but I am disappointed that the beef is not purchased from our local ranchers. read more

I've had my venison processed at HP for over 21 years. Just recently the deer I took in for processing came home awful and sticky so that I couldn't even make a hamburger patty. Also, the meatloaf I tried to make was hard as a rock from this horrible grind. When I took it back for the manager to check he said he couldn't find anything they did wrong and that "yes it is sticky and I don't like it." Then he said that sometimes "there is just a sticky deer." Sweet Lucifer! All these years hunting and I have never had a "sticky deer" whatever that is. If anyone knows please tell me. The cube steak I made with the same deer certainly wasn't sticky. My husband is meticulous in cutting and cleaning the venison I take in to make burger so it had nothing to do with that. Anyway, they would do nothing about it except to try to sell me on making it into brats whereupon they would charge me $3.29 a pound. Needless to say I took my sticky venison burger back home. I will never do business with Hamilton Pack again. read more

Wanted a quality corned beef and wasn't disappointed. This was absolutely the best corned beef we have ever had. Crock pot method, so it was easy peasy. Hubby going back to buy several more for future consumption. It was tender, juicy and just the right amount of spices, no overwhelming salt flavor. read more

After reading all the great reviews we sent our beef in for butchering. Not really happy about the extremely high "kill fee". It's a butcher shop, that's what they do. Got some hot dogs made out of our beef only to find out later, they added pork to it. I wanted all beef franks but looks like the message didn't get through. My biggest complaint is that I paid for 50 lbs of franks but only got 46 lbs. Got some excuse about not being able to get all the meat out of the tube on the grinder. I understand the process but why am I being charged for meat i didn't get? Not a whole lot of money but it's enough to show me that customer service isn't here. Definitely won't be back. read more
