Hidden Legend Winery - The wonderful Apple Mead Cyser from Hidden Legend!

Occasionally Steve and I are on the lookout for mead for a change of pace from all of the craft…read morebeer we drink. And as the craft beer industry is very noticeable in it's shrinkage in size from the past year or so distilleries, meaderies and wineries may be something we will need to explore more frequently as well. Hidden Legend was a winery or meadery that I haven't tried before and I was instantly drawn in to it. Discovering new places to me is always exciting and keeps thing interesting for me. For Hidden Legend, Steve and I had their Apple Mead Cyser which was an apple mead as indicated in the title and in flavor it had a very noticeable presence of that fruit. It was almost like a cider as we kept it chilled like a dry cider but had the thickness of a mead which put a fun spin to the flavor profile. And of course the presence of honey was detected also like you should expect with a mead giving this particular mead a pleasant and natural sweetness. A very nice change of pace was achieved here and feel like a revisit of their other mead options should be in order.

Full disclosure - we did not visit. I did not plan ahead - so please do so! They are only open on…read moreweekends by appointment. Seppi (owns an amazing nearby deli) guided us to the Super One nearby where they carry the Montana honey mead. It was such a treat! Honeysuckle and thyme notes. Perfectly pairs with Seppi's meat and cheese box for a picnic at nearby Lake Como.

I had the good fortune to attend a few different events catered by Riversong Gourmet last year,…read moreincluding: * an art opening in a private home gallery, * an outdoor harvest celebration and wine tasting on a Montana organic farm, and * a wine tasting / pairing dinner in the Tiny Event Space. Their culinary creations are rooted in organic local ingredients and unleash joy with every bite. The chef and staff bring creative energy and professionalism to every event, large or small. The private art opening featured a pork belly bruschetta with a roasted tomato jam which was so good I still think about it. The baked pecorino baskets with squash and chanterelle mushrooms were so beautiful and delicious. I've never seen anything quite like it. The wine pairing dinner featured a lamb pasta with a deep green nettles sauce that remains a beautiful delicious mystery to me. I thought nettles were weeds! The outdoor dinner on an organic farm in the Bitterroot included a Montana surprise: a cold rainstorm! The wines were fantastic and the food was so delicious it distracted me and I only remembered to take a few pictures. My friends and I were glad the rain didn't chase us away. We're all foodies and we agreed that this was one of the best meals we had all year.
