The park grounds are amazing also. Dogs are welcome if on a leash and under supervision of the owner, but they are not allowed in any of the buildings. There are many varieties of trees and shrubs. We were there at night and it seemed a little spooky to me. Afterwards, I learned that the Ghost Tours are held there at night. We only went for the Lighthouse tour. I think that on the next trip we will do a Ghost Tour, if we are brave enough.

Good views of the water, marsh and under the bridge along with some art featuring various animals found in the area. It's not too long and takes maybe 20 minutes round trip but it's worth a look if you're in the area.

Yes it can get warm and sweaty inside on a hot and humid summer day. No it is not a simple few steps either. It can be difficult if you don't pace yourself and drink water. St. Augustine has always been such a special place for family and I. Every time we climb to the top the views are always special. Every ticket helps to conserve the lighthouse and the area around it.

Spoiler alert: I think this is a must see while visiting St Augustine! Wasn't sure what to expect…read morefrom the lighthouse visit. The fee at first seemed a little steep. But, it was worth every penny of it (see last paragraph for additional things to see on the property). This lighthouse was lovingly restored by a group of passionate people- who also kept the property from being razed and becoming condominiums! The preservation work is ongoing and informative. The history is very interesting- you will see it as you climb the stairs up the lighthouse. One story about a cat and a parachute was particularly interesting. The staff member at the top of the lighthouse was very informative. The glass prisms making up the light part are amazingly beautiful, and so are the views from the top of surrounding Anastasia Island! The lighthouse itself maybe the main draw, but the property offers much more to visit. There is an archeological preservation building - which you can enter and discover how they preserve historical items. There is the lighthouse keepers house to explore. Several small sailing boats are on the premises with information regarding their history,and also a short trail through native trees and plants. A small restaurant/ snack bar is also located on the premises.

My nephews were having a blast running around in the park. Open dusk to dawn. They have a covered pavilion for adults with a few benches to keep an eye on the kiddies. A wooden fence surrounds the park for added safety. Although it did look like fun, my extreme weight would probably wreck the structure.

So it was a bit crowded; combining that with the heat of Florida summer was a bit uncomfortable. The band was there and it was nice to hear them play live while we walked the top of the Fort. We were able to spend about an hour or two exploring and learning about the Fort. We read the majority of the signs and informationals. Gorgeous view of the bay and very informative about the history of the fort and the city. There were a few rooms playing videos about the history and a specific space for "ranger kids". It seems very well preserved and taken care of. The gift shop has AC but is very small and could use an upgrade. The parking area is very limited and the bathrooms were locked there. We found a parking garage about a mile away and it was the perfect location for the other activities planned.

Highly recommend coming to this fort only during the winter and never ever during the summer. The…read moreheat gets so intense that medics were taking older folks out in stretchers. I was almost one of them - really!!!. Visited here again in the winter months and was a much better experience. Aside from the heat, it was a really cool place and been inside twice on self guided tours. They have staff dressed up in colonial attire and they answer all our questions. The little stone walled rooms were extremely tiny but you then can understand how the Spanish military lived and fought to defend the fortress and the City of St. Augustine. There is a price per person but you can hear the cannons shoot for free outside. You can also get great free pictures with the stone walls of the outer fort and rusted cannons with the river.

In the park there is an art installment that was erected back in 2015 for the city's 450th birthday celebration, It's an 8.5' tall replica of the original Monumento de la constitućion covered in photographs of people holding a minature of the original monument. "I hope to concentrate on the ideals of freedom, democracy, human rights and compassion by focusing on the individuals who make up St. Augustine's community," Said of the art installment. We stay at the inn at least 3 weekends a year and always take our fur child. We like to walk with her in the park. The park is never crowded and very peaceful. Being in Florida, it is also has many trees, which provide plenty of shade. There are also several benches throughout for you to sit. They are made out of stone. There is a statue of St. Francis of Assisi in the back corner of the park. Our dog hates it for some reason and always barks at it! We did notice this recent trip that homeless people are staying there at night, just an FYI. It is also a little higher than the sidewalk. I never noticed a ramp for wheelchairs, just stairs. This park is so quiet and a great place to meditate or reflect. You don't even need music.

Wow, what an amazing experience and a wealth of information I received from the Fort Mose historic…read morestate park. My parents and I came here for a Black History Month event as they are commemorating the month with the flight of freedom. This is a journey of how enslaved people came to Fort Mose to obtain freedom. I only knew of this place as the Underground Railroad, based on my ancestry, knowing that my ancestors came from the Carolinas and Georgia down to this area, but I learned so much more in the short period of time I was there. This particular weekend showcase a reenactment, and teaches the story of individuals who trekked the long and perilous paths to be free from enslavement. From different stops with a real Yamasee Indian who was the chief of the tribe. He gave us a deep and in depth history of the Yamasee Indians and their role in the flight to freedom. During the reenactment, we made different stops along the way and the end we got to watch a demonstration of the soldiers shooting and firing off the canon. It was a very emotional experience and much needed - we need to learn from the past and continue to teach this type of history. Before the experience, my parents and I did have the opportunity to stop into the visitor center, which cost about $2. It definitely gives a timeline of events during the start of colonization and Florida, however it also has a lot of artifacts that were discovered in Saint Augustine from the 1700s and onward. Definitely make a stop here while visiting the city!

Fort Mose Historic State Park is the most underrated attraction in St. Augustine. People seem to…read morecome here for only part of a history lesson-the more palatable part that that doesn't remind them of one of the greatest stains of American history - slavery. Yes, I said it. While all the other attractions in St. Aug are prominently advertised and well catered to and attended, I heard nothing of this state park or the history surrounding it beside a blurb on a map and sign on the street. I've heard more advertising for BBQ joints in the area than this state park. Despite the rain on a Sunday, I ventured here for the museum and unfortunately didn't get to go to the rebuilt fort itself or the surrounding marsh/walkways (dang mama nature). Museum and film were very enlightening and I learned so much that I never was taught in school. I loved the interactive displays and hearing people's stories. Museum was set up so well and very informative without being too much of an info dump. The park ranger Billy was amazing. He went above and beyond when my husband had a medical issue and even exposed himself to rain to help us out. Such a beautiful friendly person. Overall, this hidden gem needs to be advertised more. And at only $2 it is a steal.
