We enjoyed this activity. For your entry fee, you get to climb the lighthouse stairs, get a 360 degree view of the area, learn about making boats, the life of a lighthouse keeper, and discover how ships are salvaged. There were lots of learning opportunities with easy to read signs and lots of photos. I especially liked walking through the light keeper's house and imagine what it was like to live there at that time. The lighthouse is painted every two years and it's in pristine condition. Nice stop.

The centerpiece of Lighthouse Park is of course the St. Augustine Lighthouse. Built-in 1874 and remodeled in 1980 it not only stands as a monument to the past but to the present as well since it remains in working condition. The park is really in great condition with interesting trees and grounds. It's also considered to be haunted. Matter of fact, guided Ghost Tours take place at night: https://www.staugustinelighthouse.org/visit/expand-your-visit/ And I can tell you it can get spooky. There are so many legends and stories surrounding St. Augustine Lighthouse, that it's difficult to differentiate between what is fact and what is a fable. You just have to go there to discover what is believable, and what isn't.

We love the the Augustine Lighthouse park. The staff is friendly and willing to answer questions and talk about the history of the lighthouse. Each staff member we spoke to was very knowledgeable. We will visit again next time we are in town. Be sure to take their night tour, on Tuesdays I believe.

Almost didn't visit on our way out of town. Visited for the lights in St. Augustine and decided to check out the light house before leaving town. This was my favorite spot! It was beautiful, especially with all the Christmas decorations. We both appreciated all the history it had to offer as well.

Twisted trees and lighthouses Lighthouse Park also goes by the name of the J. Edward Cox Recreational Facility but that is just a recent change and everyone still calls this cool place Lighthouse Park. The reason for the name is pretty obvious. It stands in the shadow of the huge St Augustine Lighthouse. It looms off to the west and literally blocks out the setting sun at times. The park has a cool fishing pier, boat ramp, bathrooms, nice playground, great views of the water and plenty of parking. But what really makes this park cool are the trees. Lots of scrub oak that are twisted into all kinds of strange and spooky forms and shapes. Obviously the wind comes a whipping off the water at times and the trees are encouraged to grew in whatever direction the wind takes them. Any park on the water is usually a very nice place. But one that stands next to a huge lighthouse and has lots of very weird trees is very special.

Built in 1874, the St. Augustine Light is an active lighthouse in St. Augustine, Florida. It underwent a major restoration in 1980, thanks to the Junior Service League of St. Augustine and the Coast Guard. Thanks to a local preservationist, in 1981 the lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and a Museum was added to preserve local maritime history and keep alive the story of the oldest port in the nation. They employ over 30 individuals and host over 190,000 people in a year. The antique lens of the lighthouse was functional until it was damaged by rifle fire in 1986, and 19 of the prisms were broken. A breakthrough was made when the lens was restored, rather than removed and replaced. This was the first restoration of its kind. The retired guardsmen responsible for the restoration continue to work with Museum staff and care for the lens. Volunteers clean and inspect the lens and works every week. The light keeps burning as a private aid to navigation. Today, the St. Augustine Light Station consists of the 165-foot (50 m) 1874 tower, the 1876 Keepers' House, two summer kitchens added in 1886, a 1941 U.S. Coast Guard barracks and a 1936 garage. The site is also a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather station. It is believed that the lighthouse and surrounding buildings are haunted by two little girls. They are believed to be the daughters of Hezekiah Pittee (Superintendent of Lighthouse Construction, during the 1870s) who drowned during the building of the tower. There is also a male figure, possibly be Civil War hero and former lighthouse keeper William A. Harn. TAPS filmed on site and found much evidence of hauntings, even on a second visit to the lighthouse. If you are interested in paranormal activity ,the lighthouse offers "Dark of the Moon" tours. These tours take you to the top of the lighthouse at night, and talk about those who have died on the site. EMF detectors can be brought, but don't be surprised if they start going crazy. To see ghostly pictures taken on the site, go to this site: http://www.staugustinelighthouse.org/events/darkofmoon.html. It's quite interesting!

A must stop when visiting St. Augustine. Great picture taking. Parking is tight but the lighthouse setting is worth it.

Prettiest lighthouse I've ever seen. Closest parking is amongst trees, so a bit of a squeeze with my big truck. Nice gift shop

Walking tour operator…read more I took the opportunity to join my kids school trip to St. Augustine as a chaperone and as part of that, the school engaged Ancient City Tours as our guide for the day. The guide we had was Matt. Matt with the hat to be exact- because, you guessed it, he wore a hat. Easy to find if you were lagging behind - and easy to remember. Matt and his Hat made the day memorable- he certainly knew a lot of the St. Augustine history and was able to keep all the group engaged- kids, adults and even the teachers. He was super flexible with our group and overall, he made the day much better than I could have done on my own. Shout out to Matt and the Ancient City Tours team.

She is very…read moreknowledgeable and gave us a wonderful tour of the city, sharing its rich cultural history along the way. The ghost tour was especially amazing--she even gave my son a small device to help detect ghost activity, which made the experience extra fun for him. She also showed him an app where he could see and track ghost activity, which was really interesting (and a little eerie!). We stopped at several locations to admire the beautiful architecture of churches and historic buildings. Kendall is a true storyteller--she really gets into character and even dresses the part, which made everything feel more immersive. She added humor with some great puns, and we found ourselves laughing and enjoying every moment. One of the highlights was standing in a courtyard using a handheld device where we could hear what seemed like ghostly responses. It even answered my question when I asked its name--very eerie and unforgettable! Whether you believe in ghosts or not, learning about the darker, ghostly side of Saint Augustine made for a perfect evening. I've always wanted to experience something like this, and I'm so glad we booked it, even last minute. You won't regret it--but be sure to ask for Kendall... or you might! Sidenote -This is a golfcart tour, great for those who can't get around and you actually get to see more of Saint Augustine.

We quickly got through signing the waiver, and then WE WERE READY TO PARTY. The boat is BYOB. We brought some drinks and a charcuterie plate on board. The boat already came with a large cooler filled with ice and some waters. We were able to connect to Bluetooth and play our Bachelorette Playlist on board, which really set the vibes. Our route took us out of the marina, around the waterway, right by the fort, and the downtown nightlife. Once the sun went down, the tiki boat had colored lights that turned on. Our group really had a blast, and this was a highlight of our weekend, for sure. I want to give major kudos to our Captain, Jack. He was so great navigating the waters that were a little choppy in a few areas while making us feel safe. He also was such a good sport with our shenanigans and laughed along with us. I highly recommend this biat excursion and Captain Jack!

ARRIVING THERE: The boat launch was hard to find, as Google maps doesn't take you to the exact location. Allow yourself 30 minutes upon "arrival" so that you can get to the boat launch. We had to stop into multiple local businesses to ask where it was, as the employees who answer the phone do not work on premises and did not know how to guide us past what GPS says. If your GPS takes you to a residential neighborhood, you're in the right spot.
