Paid the pet fee and rent as we had a dog. Neighbors were relatively quiet and the neighborhood itself was pretty clean, and maintenance was always very kind, helpful, and responsive. Over time, I noticed people stopped picking up after their dogs and there was just poop everywhere even though bags and bins were available on every corner, and people weren't great about keeping dogs on leash which made walking around the property difficult sometimes. Then came some issues of people getting their cars broken into. When it came time for move out, we were charged almost $400 for a stain underneath the carpet that we didn't cause (and was not visible to the eye on the surface by any means) in which the carpet was being replaced anyway. We were also charged $25 dollars for removal of a few travel sized items left in a bathroom drawer by mistake and a command hook in one of the closets. We did go back and forth with the office to determine the cause of the stain and prove that it wasn't because of us, and literally in the middle of the back and forth with them, they sent this bill to collections so it affected both me and my husband's credit scores tremendously. If you move in here, please be prepared for a rack of expenses when you move out, even if you didn't cause the issues in the first place, especially if you do the right thing and let them know you have pets. You're honestly better off not telling them you have pets so you don't get charged.

I am going on my third year. This past renewal I signed up for 14 months to save a couple dollars…read more Management started this tenant rent pay application called LOFT. Since my 14 month renewal, no one asked me for my renters insurance (which has been active since 1999 only changed the community beneficiary) and assumed I didn't have any and instead of simply asking me for my info, this LOFT charged me over $50 for prorated insurance company of their choice! If anyone would simply have asked me I would have provided it. In fact, the apt complex changed the address of their beneficiary, so it had to be updated through my insurance, BUT they didn't tell me and advised after several emails questioning, that it was MY responsibility to check (even before the end of my lease?) That's bullshit first of all. Then they would not renew my lease until it was paid. This LOFT application is crap and I surely do not recommend. It does not beat face to face with the leasing agents directly. With that said, one of the best factors of this complex was it was quiet. It seems that has changed. People in their rented separate garages using them for pool tables and social get togethers. The apartment walls are thin. Maintenance, well, they will show but when complete it's half assed and pieced together in the cheapest way possible. My dishwasher has backlash that is black and moldy on the bottom and they basically tell me they don't have a "white washer to replace," Meanwhile, I was told to run the garbage disposal for a bit before I run the dishwasher as its getting backlash from the garbage disposal. UGH! that's easy. Choose wisely when you decide.

It was not long ago I wrote a 5-star review regarding The Newton Apartments. Today, I will give a…read more0-star review! On July 31st, 2025, the Hawthorne management company, in their infinite wisdom, decided to turn off the resident portal. Residents were informed that it would be a temporary shutdown of the system with no indication of what "temporary" meant. Of course, rent was due on August 1st, 2025. The notice also required residents to secure a cashier's check to pay their rent. This requirement gave no grace to those who work, those on vacation, or those out of town for business to secure a cashier's check. In addition, many residents are enrolled in the flex program which allows the residents to pay part of their rent on the 1st of the month and remainder later in the month. Residents have budgets, so those on flex were required to provide the full rent on the 1st of the month. A hardship for many! Hawthorn's upper management and those in the "ivory tower" had absolutely NO CONSIDERATION for the residents! Furthermore, they had NO CONSIDERATION for their employees, specifically the leasing staff (by the way, THE LEASING STAFF IS AMAZING!) who were left to field hundreds of phone calls and emails from panicked residents. I will never rent a Hawthorne property again! So, if you are looking at a Hawthorne property, I would encourage you to look elsewhere, since they obviously do not put the customer first! Karen N.

I've lived here for almost 2 years. If you're reading this, DO NOT DO IT! I'll be back highlight my…read moreexperience and list pros and cons later. Update: Let's start with the pros! 1.) Free live music 7 days a week thanks to the pool crowd. Why pay for a concert when you've got DJ ThongBoy spinning tracks at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday? 2.) FREE Built-in cardio program: Dodging water bugs, sketchy dogs and random half-naked people in the parking lot keeps the body toned and adrenaline high! Wonderful place to live if you are an adrenaline junkie. 3.)Strangers often left notes on my car telling me I was beautiful, which would be sweet if it wasn't...scary....walking to my car often felt like the opening scene of a First 48 episode. 4.) Last but certainly not least-The maintenance team was always very kind and extremely helpful. Shoutout to whoever is over the hiring process for the maintenance department. Great group of individuals. Super sweet lady (not sure of her name) often helping w grounds work, cleaning the pool area and grills in the morning. She deserves a raise and a vacation. Alright- now for the cons: I don't have the time, emotional bandwidth, or enough characters to capture this in one sitting. So here are just a few lowlights: 1.) Mushrooms. Growing. In. My. Bedroom. I actually love mushrooms; however, I didn't ask for an indoor garden -- and yet, here we are. Maintenance came by and snatched them out the wall. 2.) Used condoms in the grass -My poor niece thought someone had a water balloon fight. 3.) Walls thinner than paper. Unfortunately, I know my neighbors' nightly... routines... in HD surround sound. My master bedroom is on the other side of my neighbors master bedroom. 4.)Water bugs everywhere. I've never seen anything like this before. I am very clean and have never experienced any his. First night I woke up with one ON MY FACE. 5.) Unprofessional leasing agents (with the exception of Mark)Everyone else? Unresponsive, careless, and very useful for sending out empty noise complaints and random discombobulated emails. I received a random email one evening accusing me of having someone named Nabreika in my apartment for too long. I was also accused of having this persons mail delivered to my mailbox. I had no clue who the individual was, as I almost never have guests. Shocked and confused, I went to the office to speak about the accusations in the email, they concluded that there was a mix up and apologized. 6.) The pool = frat party hell. Drunk/high people in thongs year-round blasting music like it's Coachella. If you can not afford concert tickets, you're in luck, this is the place for you! I work from home and had to take Zoom calls in my bathroom just to block out the noise. 7.) Dog policy? My 12-year-old poodle (who had an aggressive form cancer bless her heart) was attacked by a large aggressive pit bull on the property. Leasing office said they couldn't "track the dog down owner down......although I provided them with the building number that the individual lived in. *** I'll be back to add pictures of the lovely mushrooms in my bedroom along with the huge hole in my bedroom wall that had to be cut and eventually closed back( my water heater was leaking into my downstairs neighbors bedroom).
