As a 33-year-old woman that's never owned because #millennialproblems, I've lived in my fair share of apartments, and Elizabeth Square is simply the very best. The staff genuinely care about their tenants and it shows. They are respectful, kind, prompt, and extremely thorough. The apartment itself is also beautiful and perfectly located. Our ceilings are 16-feet tall (!), and we can step outside our door and right onto the streetcar to go to Charlotte FC, Panthers, Hornets, and Knights games. There's so much in walking distance too, and Elizabeth Square has done so much to build community with local businesses through community programming for residents. Anyway, I really can't say enough great things about Elizabeth Square! Thanks especially to the incredible staff (the Kellys, Jenn, Ashley, and the amazing maintenance team!) for making our experience the past year so wonderful -- we are excited to renew! read more

I've lived at Elizabeth Square for just over a year now and have overall really enjoyed my experience! It's in a great location with lots near by walkable, I feel they provide the best value for their location/floor plan options/price per square foot. I've had a great experiences with their maintenance staff - Mandrell has helped me 3 times and always responds to work orders in under 24 hours. Great community! I saw some reviews on parking - as someone that comes from other cities where I had to pay for parking no matter I appreciate having free garage parking with my lease. Yes, guest spots can be limited on the weekends (to be expected) but I live on the first floor and have always found parking within a level of my floor no matter what time I come home. read more

Marvin was/is AMAZING!! So the initial plan was to go to Overton however after driving around and finding parking next to this apartment building, we decided to stop here. Once we walked in, we were automatically greeted by Marvin. He smiled, was very personable and extremely welcoming towards us as "walk ins". He asked me what type of apartment I was looking for, when I was looking to move and then went in to explain some of the amenities that the building offers. He showed us a one bedroom (which is what I am looking for), the common area, the outside lounge area, pool and an additional vacant apartment that I could better visualize to see how I would furnish my apartment. He wasn't pushy and was super patient with me while I asked all of my questions and while my cousin talked his ears off! Overall, LOVED this apartment and all of the amenities that it has to offer. While Elizabeth Square claims to offer parking for their residents, most likely if you come home after 9:00pm on any given night the garage will be full and Elizabeth Square management offers no solution to the problem or reimbursement for any fee's assessed for having to park in a 'non' parking zone. Pretty much any apartment complex in the city that can actually accommodate parking for their residents would be a better option, because at Elizabeth Square the only thing they have to offer if there are zero parking spaces available is "pay for parking". So you can either pay for a reserved parking spot for a monthly fee in addition to rent, or go search for street parking which is nearly always full as well. Bottom line, if parking is something that you need with your lease, I would search elsewhere. read more

They let tenants leave there dog poop in the hallways FOR DAYS when notified they didn't immediately pick it up and let it sit till maintenance comes the next day. Its still there days later. This isn't the first time someone left their dog poop in the hallway & they really don't care. We pay too much rent to have dog poop in our hallways. So inconsiderate! read more

I have lived in Elizabeth Square for a few months now. The apartments are very spacious and updated for the most part. The construction is a bummer, but it will be over soon and it's too good of an area to pass up. Tons of food, breweries, salons, and grocery stores in walking distance and not a far uber from uptown either. They are also very dog friendly which is great for my pup! They have a gated dog park, free baths once a month, and plenty of poop bag posts around the property. The staff (Meagan, Megan, and Danielle) are AMAZING - they go above and beyond to help residents, answer questions, and plan fun events every month too! read more

I am a fan of Elizabeth Square. I have lived on the back side, facing Independence, for the past two years and when my next renewal comes, I plan on signing on for another year. I am not sure about the move out process and all the fees that everyone is talking about, but as far as I am concerned, I have had a great experience there. I would like to have updated flooring or countertops perhaps in the apt, especially if I sign onto my third year, as in incentive. Nonetheless, I have had a great experience. I do have two dogs and run a large pet sitting company. Location could not be better. I often walk my dogs around the neighborhood and its wonderful! My best friend lives down the street and grabbing a bite to eat, walking to a park or bar is always hassle free and its always about location, location, location. It is quite, I do live more on an end spot and have had no problem. One issue is the parking if I have a guest over. I recently had surgery and it was hard to get caretakers to my place, since I live alone. Anyhow, they are prompt when handling an issue, you can always call them and ask questions, and they are very quick to fix an issue within your apartment. Hopefully, since I am signing a third renewal, I can get some updated flooring versus that cream old shag carpet! But, I would recommend this to my friends, family or anyone else! read more

I have lived here for 4 months now and love it. The apartment is up to date, the hallways and grounds are kept spotless and are very well maintained, and it is very convenient to everything Plaza Midwood has to offer. I can walk to many restaurants and bars and uptown/south end are a very short uber away. This community is very dog friendly, like other people said there are plenty of poop bag stations, and the surrounding neighborhood is great for walking my dog. read more

I lived in Elizabeth Square Apts for a year and had the worst experience there than I have had anywhere. I lived in Apt 412, overlooking the pool. This is everything that's wrong with this building and company: 1. TENANTS DO NOT FOLLOW RULES: First night people were having sex in the pool, ES did nothing. There are drunk people who break glass in the pool and party throughout the night. People who don't live there hop the fence to party there all night, ES does nothing. However, they do have a "courtesy cop" that gets free rent in exchange for enforcing select rules (smoking outside after 10pm is considered loitering on your own apartment property and YES the cops will come for that) A girl PEED outside my door while her friend drug her down the hall. I reported that and the pee photo and the carpets were cleaned two weeks later. Yes, two weeks later. 2. POOR NOISE INSULATION: Within first month, 2 large breed dogs moved in above. What they don't tell you is the 5th floor is fake hardwood floors, not carpet, so if you live on the 4th you hear everything. I could hear the man above peeing in the toilet, so the dogs wrestling throughout the night was so loud. ES did nothing after two phone calls. I woke up every morning I had off to my neighbor's alarm clock vibration. The new tenant above me did lunges and KETTLEBALLS every morning at 5:30AM, ES did nothing. 3. COMPROMISED SAFETY I've had my cars towed and booted MANY times. Rental car was towed even though I had a note saying I drove back arriving at 3am Sunday night and would register the car with the office when they were open (there is NO 24-hr service at this place). By 6am it was towed. All the visitor spots are taken up by tenants who don't want to pay $10 for extra parking. My friend's car was towed after coming in for less than 30 minutes. This was 2am on a Saturday. We had to taxi it to North Charlotte, it cost $40. The tow truck driver who instructed us to go to MATHIS TOWING took 1.5 HOURS to show up so we stayed on a dark dirt road for 1.5 hours. Across the street was a mobile home park. When the tow truck drive arrived he had a prostitute in a fur jacket sit up from having had her head in his lap. It was seriously like out of a movie. The tow truck comes every night between 1-4 am. I've seen a woman accompany the driver 3 times. There's a flimsy deadbolt on your door and NOTHING else between you sleeping and tow truck man and prostitute who drive through the garage. Many cars are broken into at night and everyone told me it was the tow truck service. My car has been TOWED once and BOOTED TWICE with a resident sticker on my window because they can't see it at night with the tented windows. After persistent emails to the regional director it was reimbursed. However, there was an elderly man down there and a young lady another time in the office saying their car had been towed WITH A PERMIT DISPLAYED and ES did nothing. 4. THEY ARE UNDERTRAINED Upon move out, my auto pay continued to auto charge me, after my lease had ended! I was overcharge $1300 out of my bank! They blamed it on me saying I never returned a paper to cancel it (the terminated lease wasn't sufficient I guess). Upon their investigation they found I had never been given the paper. Someone forgot and so I was overcharged $1300. They said it would take weeks to reverse because it had to go through a "different department." I said I would sue them, so the debit was immediately reversed. They were just lazy and didn't want to do that originally. ES makes threats in posted fliers around the building that are not legally substantiated, such as no standing in pool area or other public places after 10PM. The staff engages in drug use. Yes, I've witnessed this in person. 5. THEY ARE DISHONEST Upon move out I left my apartment spotless. Fridge scrubbed, everything wiped down. As I was driving cross country with a cat (I was there for nursing school), when I had my car packed, I took a walk-thru video and left keys behind. I didn't schedule a walk thru because of its spotless condition, because I left at an hour when maintenance was not there, and because my friend who worked at the front desk had seen it and assured me my apartment was more than perfectly left. BAD BAD BAD BAD MISTAKE! I got a bill for $623.97 because they replaced all the fake wood floors and carpeting. The catch? The carpet was 4.5 years old and ALWAYS gets replaced at 5 years. They had a girl who WORKED there move in. Because she signed a year lease the carpets would have to be replaced anyway. They took advantage of my not having had a walk thru to scam me out the money. An attorney told me I would have easily won it in small claims, but I would have had to FLY BACK. This is why ES did this. THE CONCLUSION: Move anywhere but here. The fixtures and amenities are cheap and for people who want to look like they have money. Try Metro 808 if you like the neighborhood (which is a charm!)!! read more

This review is 100% based on our walking in to inquire about a lease this week. Their occupancy rate is high and they only had one unit available, but we didn't care based on the fees and other ways they would have made $ on us. $100 application fee per person, $250 admin fee (there must be a lot more paperwork than I remember), manditory $75 for cable and Internet (no way to turn it off, really?), $100 to cover 2 of the other utilities but not 2 others. Our big gripe was the $450 in application and admin fees, think it tells a lot about how we would be treated if we lived there. Our little grip was being told there is no flexibility in the monthly rent because the computer sets the rates and they have no control over it - do they think we don't know that people program computers or do they not understand how computers work? read more

I live here still, I have been here over 7 years. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but now I am counting down the days until I can move out. I have reported my neighbors multiple times for noise violations. I have had to call the cops twice because the noise and fighting was so bad I thought someone was being harmed. They slam around the apartment for hours, I hear their dog running back and forth. I don't even know how you make this much noise in a small apartment space? I have literally had paintings fall OFF the wall from the banging and crashing. They fight EVERY DAY on top of it. I go stay with my parents whenever I can't sleep from the noise. It's been over 6 months of this chaos and nothing has changed. It's crazy I pay rent here to be forced to go stay somewhere else for sleep, right? In fact, I just heard them argue about what they wanted to eat, sorry I meant scream at each other, and now they are proceeding to play music so loudly my apartment is shaking. And I can hear every word of every song. I am at a loss. I reached out to Greystar corporate this week as well, with no response. I guess my only option is to now post my experience here and hope that someone takes it seriously. If I have lived here this long as a good tenant, and no action is being taken, I guess you are more concerned with keeping the noisy neighbors over the good ones? At the end of my lease- when asked why I am leaving, the answer will be easy. I have really loved living here until this, and it's a huge disappointment. read more

Lots of rules, 2 pages to be exact. Also 3 pages of fees before the lease was to be signed. 5 extra fees monthly for trash etc, tapping on an extra $150. I would highly recommend you setting your sights elsewhere if you are looking for a new apartment home. It is in a good location, and that's about it, Even then, the bridge is out on Hawthorne, so it's become super inconvenient. The hallways are extremely disgusting and the carpet has never been changed in over 10 years. I believe the building to have a lot of mold issues because u can smell it. The garage doors remained open (safety issue) for nearly 3 months last summer. Many maint issues never get resolved as the building is gigantic and understaffed. If that's not good enough for you..... one word.... ROACHES.... my apartment was invested ... I complained multiple times, they attempted some sprays but it was to far gone, only after being told they were "Palmetto bugs@ . I was so disgusted, stopped having people over as I was so embarrassed, the upper management (district level) didn't really care to understand and would not even honor letting me out of my lease one month early so I could secure a new home. It was hands down the worst living situation I've ever been in, and I've lived in Charlotte all my life! Again I repeat, search elsewhere ! read more

Place is HORRIBLE! I write this to warn you that you may not want to live through your entire lease at this complex. It felt like I was living with the most uptight, disrespectful, and non-welcoming people I have been around. If you do not know any residents prior to moving in, than you will be very unhappy with your stay while at Elizabeth Square Apartments. It must be their staff, which sets the tone for all the residence. Offered: free coffee and cookies in the morning, free use of the theater room, free clubhouse use, free pool and BBQ with fire-pit, free WIFI and cable tv. The truth: coffee and cookies are never available when since the office opens long after I leave for work at 8:00am. so if you don't work, than you can have all the cheap coffee and cookies you want. The theater room is a joke! It is too small in all ways, plus you need to schedule and appointment the day before then get the key and return the key to...well the workers are gone in the evening so forget about using the theater room. The clubhouse closes when the office workers go home, which means it is going to be close when you get home from work and are ready to use it. So, no Clubhouse, but don't worry, it's not too inviting and very uncomfortable. The pool is okay if you like swimming and sunbathing around hundreds of people's balconies. No pool, or BBQ, or fire-pit at night, it's not allowed! (What's the point of a fire-pit during the day? And no BBQ for dinner???) The WIFI and cable are NOT FREE, they charge you for every bit of it, which took them 2 months to come install, then I had to buy my own router. I was very unhappy to find that the local community despises the new Elizabeth Square Apartments, and I was extremely unhappy to find I was being way far too much over charged for the area. Their rates are high, and the additional fees stack up to too much. The parking garage is too tight, with near misses every time I come or go. The elevator reeks of piss. The hallways are miserable and duplicated on every floor and every hall. The mail is outside in the cold or heat, and not safe. No enjoyable roof-top. The people are all unfriendly, which seems strange until you have been here for a few months and understand. I became depressed and isolated in Elizabeth Square Apartments, a first for me. I had to break my lease, HAD TO! I recommend not locking yourself into the Elizabeth Square contract and instead go rent in one of the better quality apartments or areas. Don't do it! OH YEAH... I've lived here for over 2 years. Great place. Unbeatable location. Friendly staff from the maintenance team to the property manager. Lauren has usually been the one to help me when I've needed anything. She's always sweet and helpful. Always smiling and fun. The only change I would make to this place would be to put some thick padding around those yellow cement safety posts at the entrance and exit to the parking garage. It's not the property managers fault that we can't make wider turns but enough people (including me) have scraped them and ruined the sides of our cars that padding might be a good idea. My husband and I have lived in Elizabeth Square for two years and just renewed our lease for a third. We love it here! The location is perfect, the staff is nice, and the amenities are awesome. I definitely want to shout-out to the amazing maintenance guys as well--they are all so friendly and willing to help! Tim came to my apartment just to help me kill a wasp last week! Our rent is reasonable and it's nice to get a free parking spot in the garage. In addition, we pay for a small storage space in the building for about the same amount it would be if we used a storage facility, which is extremely handy. The only thing I don't love here is some of the residents think they're too entitled to follow the rules or clean up after themselves. But, unfortunately, apartment complexes this size are going to have those types of people no matter where you go. read more

If you like paying overpriced rent, living in a frat house, having the fire alarm go off ALL the time in the middle of the night for over an hour, having your car get broken into a private gated garage, having drunk people destroy every car pretty much in the garage cause they drove in drunk, and having Elizabeth square doing nothing about any of this... Elizabeth Square = FAIL. We recently just moved out- thank God. It was one of the worst apartment experiences ever. The most recent issue that we had with Elizabeth Square is that they charged us $280 to replace the carpet. When we called about this- they said that due to stains (which were already there when we moved in) we are charged with replacing the carpet. Crazy how we would get charged for replacing carpet when we were probably the 5th tenant that lived on those gross carpets. They just decided that we were the lucky ones that would pay for someone else to have new carpets. I could go on and on about how terrible this place is. If you are a college student then this is the right place for you- if you can afford it. The fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night just about every month- no matter what day it is...I am assuming someone wanted to pull a prank and watch everyone else stumble out of their apartment at 2:00 in the morning and sit for an hour until the fire department comes and checks everything out. You have to watch were you walk in all the hallways and stairways because you just might stumble on dog poop, throw up, left over pizza, and food. Beware where you park because you just might get your car hit by some crazy drunk person that lives at Elizabeth Square. This one was a doozie- 4 cars were nailed literally...like pieces of their cars going up the parking garage- causing tons of damage because someone was driving too fast through the parking garage. You cannot even go to the pool because it is like a frat party, people are shot gunning cans of beer in the pool, booty humping, and people are there that do not even pay rent. Security is consistently compromised because everyone leaves the outside doors open- so anyone off the street can walk into the apartment building. Try to move in on a Saturday and everyone and their brother is also moving in...you can barely get into the parking garage. It is a cluster mess. The worst part about it is that it was so expensive to live there. We paid over $1800 in rent for a 2 bedroom that was not functional at all. The closet in the second bedroom was not accessible- because the door was in the way. You had to shimmy yourself in between your clothes to close the door to get to your other hanging clothes. The place is awful- whatever you do not live there. Go next door to the Metro...Elizabeth Square is not worth it. read more

If you want to live on a noisy construction site and get woken up at ungodly hours of the morning every morning (including Saturday), this place is for you. I've lived here for almost a year now and it is impossible to sleep past 7 am. Besides the constant high pitched beeping of massive lifts and trucks, the workers are also screaming at each other in Spanish and operating high powered tools right outside your door. And just to top it all off, the construction traffic is a nightmare. I've been stuck in it for 10 minutes before...50 feet from my front door. It is a daily occurrence. For the price you're going to pay (almost $1300 for a 2 bedroom) you'd think a little peace and quiet would be expected...that is not the case. Good location, decent apartments, nice office people, but nothing on earth is worth the aggravation. Come see for yourself. read more

Read the negative reviews before moving in here. The are all spot on. My experience with ES ended in Sept of 2017. They haven't stopped hounding me for extra move out charges since then. Apartment was fine while we were there. No huge disappointments besides car break ins and crashes - especially if you park near the turns. Yea the trash is an issue because the halls smell really nasty when the cans are all waiting to get picked up. Carpet stains from spilled garbage, pets, etc. But again, nothing too out of the unusual for a college dorm. Be prepared to pay a lot more than they tell you up front. Everything besides floor space is extra - garbage, parking, electric, water, etc, etc. And don't think for one minute you get any of your deposit back. They will make up all kinds of crap about how you stained this or dented that - even though it was like that when you moved in. IF you do decide to ignore all the reviews and move in anyway, PROTECT YOURSELF. Make a video of any and every dent, nick, scratch, floor stain, blinds, paint fade, cabinet door, EVERYTHING that's not PERFECT. You can be assured they will charge you to make it perfect when you move out, even if you didn't do it. Send the video to the management in an email before you move in. When you move out, INSIST on a walk through. This is the ONLY opportunity you will get to argue or negotiate with them. Best case, just stay away. These guys and every greystone managed facility will treat you like this. Check Greystone's BBB rating. Ha, it's a D minus. Oh boy. We lived there for 7 months in a 2BD 2BA. PROS: - our apt was very nice: nice hardwood, tall ceilings, big rooms and closets - amenities: the pool. The gym is nice but should be upgraded with the latest fitness accesories (see CONS) - maintenance staff : friendly and efficient. - location: within walking distance to Harris Teeter, library, bars and restaurants. - parking - netflix - recycling on site CONS: - expensive rent. - no concierge - valet trash and cable : they make you pay for it even if you do not want it. Valet trash and cable added an extra $100 to our monthly rent. - noise level : it is very close to the highway AND the railroad tracks. - office staff: very nice on the surface but they will not give any concessions on anything. They are worse than bureaucrats and not at all understanding. It felt like they were very greedy and just wanted to rip us off. Talking to them was like like talking to a wall. - Recycling trashcans: constantly overflowing. - the home theater room: The remote was not working properly on the few occasions I used it. - considering the price they charge, the gym should have a stairmaster. It should also include more fitness items such as a medicine ball, a stability ball, a pilates ring, kettlebells, a bodybar, etc. Also, blinds need to be put up in the gym so that the sun can be blocked off. Overall, we liked living there but hated dealing with the uncompromising office staff. Free cookies don't cut it, they need better customer service and more flexibility. It felt like once you've signed the lease, they will go after every dime they can get. read more

Came by for a tour and it felt so glamorous! Customer service was great! I felt like I was in a hotel. There were people working out in the gym some by the pool and they have a new yoga room. There are restaurants and parks within walking distance and best of all my dogs have a place to play in the dog park. After reading some of the other reviews they seemed to be confused they add $105 to a base rent and it includes valet trash, garage parking, cable and internet - makes paying my bills on a monthly basis a lot easier. I highly recommend Elizabeth Square I'll be moving there this summer and can not wait! read more
