I must say- this was hands down the best pulled pork I've ever had. I usually never order it out of fear of it being dry or flavorless but this was moist, delicious, full of flavor and as a god mix of meat and fat to make each bite delectable. My fiance loved the ribs, the top of the ribs was seasoned so well and maintained a great consistency and texture. I loved the potato salad, chopped into smaller pieces than I'm used to but I finished it all. The Mac...... idk. It was too Smokey and saucy for my taste. Out in aldie, Virginia, we're limited with restaurants and unfortunately hammerdown doesn't particularly deliver in flavor. I found that everything was missing a certain pizzazz that would make the flavor profile memorable. Sausage: it was good but it could use more grilling as it just felt under grilled. The snap also wasn't hitting the mark Brisket: probably the best out of everything. Fall apart good Macaroni and cheese: the absolute worst Mac n cheese I've ever had in my life. Noodles were overcooked and if you look at the picture, it's most definitely missing a key ingredient... Cheese. The cheese was very diluted and watery. The taste was bland and almost flavorless with just a tiny touch of cheese and stretch Potato salad: so heavy on the mayo. I had to add some of my own country Dijon mustard seed to get it to really hit the spot. When I see an independent looking BBQ place (with large smokers billowing blue smoke) I just about have to stop. I passed HammerDown and about a quarter mile later, said to myself, "I gotta turn around." Glad I did! HammerDown isn't a big place, but boasts a number of classic Q offering as well as beer. Bonus! I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of beans. The meat was very good and flavorful -- if I'm being hyper critical I'd say it was a tad dry, but still very tasty. The brioche bun was a winning combo although I think it was ever so stale, maybe a day past its prime. Beans were outstanding and a nice compliment to the sandwich. HammerDown offers its own sauces too -- one slightly spicy, one traditional and sweet, and one NC style vinegar based sauce. All seemingly home made. This place is nestled off the road on 50 going toward South Riding. My son asked me to go there on the way over to his house to pick up some brisket. The building looks like a big log cabin.
