Eddie, Dave, and Angela were all amazing, professional, and transparent to work with, and made me feel at ease and comfortable asking questions and making sure I understood the car and the process of buying a used car. This was truly a case of no pressure sales--Eddie was there for us when we needed him and was ready and willing to answer questions, but didn't hound us or hover as we were checking out the car. From first look to driving off the lot, it took us one week, which was perfect and gave us time to view other cars and make an informed decision. Car also came with a limited warranty and assurances from everyone there that even outside the warranty, they'd be more than happy to help every step of the way. LIARS!! Promised to replace anything with 40% or less life left, and they failed to do so. Took my car back to Vermont and it required $2000+ just to pass inspection. Muffler split in half, 9 year old tires balding, all break pads and rotors needed replacement, and several other things. Took them a week for their "mechanic" to get the car ready to sell, and due to work I couldn't make the drive back to drop off my car for them to fix. Several months later I called Hampden Trading CO to see if they would buy the car back with a steep discount and all the repairs. They laughed and hung up. Needless to say I should have taken action and demanded for them to fix my car, but after all the lies and distrust I wasn't sure what would have come out of me making the trip back and being without a car for a week+. First time buyer of a vehicle, used 2010 Mazda 3 iTouring with 106k miles. At first glance, car looked and drove great. I bought the car, little did I know this would be a great first learning experience as why NOT to buy from a used car dealership. The first problem that popped up was rattling noises and such, and within two days of receiving the car, September 8th, my AT light came on. The company serviced the car for free, and even picked it up from a shop I had to leave it at because I couldn't drive more than 20 mph (which we later found out to be a failing transmission). They replaced the transmission and a control arm and even found that the rattling noise may have been a shield that had come loose and was hitting the ground. As I start getting ready to pick it up, boom, oil leak. So they fix that and bring it for an alignment, I don't officially get my car until September 14th. Very next day, car won't start in park, so they come pick up the car and replace control switch and it's fine! Later that night I'm driving and start hearing a high pitch squeal, worse when I turn. So I bring it to a mechanic and get that fixed up, and Hampden pays for it. So I've really only had this car consistently for almost 2 weeks, but I've been involved with this company for over a month and the experience with this particular car has not been pleasant. They've offered a full refund, which I should honestly take them up on, and probably will, but let me finish this review. So yesterday I'm driving and start hearing like a flapping sound when I'm on the highway, and I'm scared now because I'm thinking it's the CV joint, or maybe it was something in the tire. Nope. I look up front and part of the bumper is hanging down and I look closer and it was TAPED up. TAPED. DO YOU KNOW HOW PISSED OFF I AM AT THIS POINT? Instead of fixing the problem, they used an adhesive and tape to hold a part of the car up. That is inexcusable. Owner eddy seems honest, they've paid for fixing the car (as they should...I haven't even had my car for 2 weeks...) But believe me, I will not be going back and people deserve to hear this. I wish I could put pictures up. I paid $4,900 for that car, no haggle room they said, this car wasn't worth more than $3,000... Hope you guys are happy with trying to take advantage of a college student. And don't try to play the innocent card, you guys knew exactly what you were doing and got caught. That's why I waited to put this review. Hope you guys learn from this situation. Oh, I forgot to mention that they zip tied something under the hood. I recently bought a Nissan Juke with this dealership. I originally went to test drive some Subarus they had been advertising on Car Gurus, but I found I didn't care for Subaru. I asked what else they had on the lot that had the features I was looking for and the salesman quickly recommended the Nissan Juke. I love this car and have had it for 3 weeks -- so far, so good. There was no pressure from Rusty to buy. When I said I'd consider buying it, that was that. No scare tactics, no tall tales of somebody else coming to drop a deposit on it. Best of all, the car was priced at $2100 *less* than I could find at any other dealership for an identical vehicle with similar mileage. I didn't even haggle on the price -- wasn't worth it. They had a good selection of imports in nice condition on their lot. The only drawback was that it took a solid week for the car to be prepared after the sale. Fortunately, I wasn't in a rush. Even though they're pretty out of the way for me, I would not hesitate to shop them again. [Edit: I helped my step-daughter car shop less than a month after my own purchase. I sent her ads for a series of cars in her price range. One of them was a Nissan Versa being sold by Hampden Trading Company and that is the one we settled on today. Again I experienced the same simple, consistent service. The price was below book value and better than I could find on any other identical Versa. My husband and I purchased a 2005 Subaru Forester LL Bean edition from them about a year and a half ago. We should've known the moment we took it on a test drive (after coming all the way from NY to see this car). The AC didn't work despite the extensive "work" that was done on it. In the time we have had it, we have sunk thousands into repairs, ranging from the replacement of leaky rear struts to the muffler. Now-after they claimed the head gaskets were replaced- we come to find out the head gaskets need replacing once again. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! They are the typical used car dealer archetype. I have debated whether or not to write a review. I am not nor will be knowledgeable about cars. I was completely SCAMMED by this company. Put a deposit down and was promised a laundry list of items to be repaired on car including adding new tires. When I picked up the vehicle, it had not even been cleaned. After picking up, car check engine light went on, and needed to be returned for further repair. When I spoke with owner, I always felt like he was coming from a good place.....ALL LIP SERVICE! At 31 days after purchase the entire exhaust system went on the vehicle. Something promised in the negotiation-Tow truck number 1. During the tow experience, the driver informed us that the tires were about to blow and showed us that the vehicle had been equipped with old, but lightly worn tread, tires. The rubber was dry rotting and originally from 2015. I purchased this car for my son to get to work and go back and forth to school. Selecting a Subaru was intentional on my part for the safety. The owner and technicians, to save a buck, put my sons safety in danger by short Cutting all that was negotiated. If you are not knowledgeable about cars, YOU WILL BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF! I know the vehicle purchased was older and required some attention....but this is insane! read more

Ditto.."Buyer Beware". Bought a 2009 Subaru Outback that was having an intermittent error code issue. The owner Dave vowed to fix it even if it went out of warranty. A few months later the clutch went and was brought to Hampden for service (my cost). After botching the repair (ended up having it towed back the next day after pick-up when the clutch leaked its contents onto the driveway) and botching it again (retuned again two more times to fix the leak from the clutch) I mentioned to Dave that the error code was constant now that he vowed to honor the repair of. But amnesia had set in. NEVER AGAIN. LESSON LEARNED read more

Recently I bought a MINI Cooper in this dealer and I met the sales rep called Rusty. He is a very nice person and never push me for a quick decision of buying the car. He gave me enough time to test drive this car and to make careful consideration. This is a very pleasant and relaxed purchase experience. After I decided to buy it, I told Rusty that I found there are some noises when applying brake and it may need to take further check. Rusty said that he will do the mechanical check for me with no charge and gave me a 30-day warranty. The customer service here is very good and I recommend this dealer to other people. read more

We bought a used Toyota Camry from Hampden Trading Co earlier this month. The dealership gave us a very good price on our trade-in and Dave Clark was a pleasure to deal with on the purchase. Rusty was also very helpful when it came time to pick up the Camry. When my daughter and I drove out to test drive the car, it was ready to go. The atmosphere is low key (in a good way). While Dave was happy to answer any questions we had, there were no pressure tactics. Our experience was similar to that of Linda H (4/25/2015 Yelp review). After we signed the papers to purchase the vehicle, they inspected the car and fixed potential problems (including ones we did not even raise with them). We recently purchased a 2012 Toyota Rav 4 for our daughter from this Dealer. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish with Rusty. We were given plenty of time to look over the vehicle and take it for a test drive after receiving some directions so that we could get the speed up to 50 mph. We had contacted Hampden Trading that we were coming from about an hour and a half away and Rusty had held the car for us--even though someone else had wanted to come and look at it that same evening. The whole purchase experience went perfect and we went back out a few days later to pick up the vehicle. We did have a small problem about a week later and they took care of it no questions asked and we again were surprised at how easy they were to deal with. This is not a place that you would normally see from the road and we found them online while shopping for cars. Please check out this dealership if you need a good used car! We bought a used Honda Fit this month. The prices are non-negotiable and the sales people are up front that they will make sure the car passes inspection, but they don't mislead you. The price was very reasonable and the staff helpful and patient with all our questions. My friend bought a car from them which broke down within a week of her having it. She then tried to schedule to have it fixed and they kept pushing back the date. After her being carless for about a week they finally took it in and fixed it and within a day it broke down again for the same problem. They again took forever to take it and when they finally did they fixed the problem. Within another two days the car again broke down for a different reason that she reported prior that they said they had taken care of. Their response was "What do you expect from an older car?" and they refused to fix it. They were also very sexist and degrading to my friend, referring to her as "Little Girl." My friend is now going to the Better Business Bureau. Buyer Beware!! These guys do not stand behind their cars and they try to screw you on their so called "warranty" by postponing when they can fix it and doing half ass repairs until the warranty is up. read more

Early in the spring, I bought a used Subaru for my daughter through Hampden Trading Company. The location was out of the way and I was initially hesitant to go that far, but they had a car that met my daughter's requirements (all wheel drive, basic sedan) and mine (highly dependable, reasonably priced). I found nothing but great reviews of the place so took the chance. I was so glad that we made the choice to take the drive. There was no negotiation of the price because the car was very well priced based on my internet search, taking the hassle of negotiation off the table. While the car needed some service, there promised to take care of the issues. They took care of every item from a safety and mechanical perspective (timing belt, head gasket). They performed the service quickly so we were able to get the vehicle when it was needed. Proof that they took care of the mechanical issues comes from the long distance that my daughter has put on the car with zero issues. I'd highly recommend making the drive when you are looking for a quality used car. You will be treated fairly and end up with a good car for a very fair price. Dealing with Dave or Rusty doesn't matter - both are great to deal with. read more

Bought a 2006 Honda Pilot at the end of August. Had seen an ad for it in one of the free flyers. Went there and had a great experience. They have nice cars at very low prices.Mainly Subaru's,Toyota's, and Honda's. Dave is a really easygoing salesman No pressure whatsoever. Like he said the cars sell themselves.Not only did I get a great deal on the Pilot, they changed the water pump and timing belt at no charge.
