It is hard to even put into words what Walnut House meant to our family over the last seven years…read more My father was not just a resident there, he was genuinely loved, known, cared for, and part of a community. The staff knew him so well that they could tell when something was off before anyone else could. They noticed changes in his mood, his energy, even when his oxygen levels seemed low or he just needed connection or support. More than once, they reached out to me simply because they knew my dad. That level of attentiveness and humanity cannot be taught. It comes from people who truly care. My dad participated in everything he possibly could; bingo, karaoke, bowling, crafts, physical therapy, social events and Walnut House gave him community, dignity, purpose, and joy during a stage of life that can otherwise feel very isolating for seniors. Honestly, he got more out of the daily encouragement and movement from the Walnut House activities and staff than he did from many outside services. Over the years, we also watched the facility continue to improve, renovate, and invest in the residents and environment, which we deeply appreciated. What meant the most to our family, though, was how much they loved my father through the very end of his life. After he passed, Walnut House helped host a memorial so that both staff and the friends he made there could say goodbye to him together. It was incredibly beautiful and something our family will never forget. Thank you to everyone at Walnut House for treating my father like family. We will carry that gratitude forever.

From the first moment I stepped inside Walnut House, I knew it was the perfect fit for my mom because like my mom, everyone there was warm and welcoming. There was nothing institutional or depressing about the place, but an environment with caregivers and guests who seemed to be genuinely happy to be there. My mom was only there a few days when she declared she had found her "forever home." Our family found communication with Walnut House to be excellent. At last, we could sleep peacefully knowing our mom would be safe at night. We expected that, but what we didn't expect was the incredible camaraderie, love, and peace that Walnut House provided during her stay--especially during her final days. She is kind, compassionate, accommodating, and genuinely cares about both the residents and their families. During every interaction, she made us feel heard, supported, and valued. Her leadership is reflected in the culture of the entire community. What stood out most to me was the staff in Memory Care. Every single person went above and beyond for my grandma. They were attentive, patient, loving, and treated her with dignity and respect. It never felt like they were simply doing a job--it felt like they truly cared about her as a person. As a family member who spent a great deal of time at the facility, I had the opportunity to get to know many of the caregivers, staff members, residents, and families. The warmth and genuine kindness I witnessed every day was something special. My grandma loved living there. There were always thoughtful activities to bring joy to the residents, from fun events like Mocktail Mondays to musical guests and entertainment throughout the week. The facility is frequently cleaned and they provide lots of activities. The staff is kind and the Executive Director is amazing. She really tries to meet family needs with empathy. The food is better than you would expect and I have lunch here regularly with my mother in law. The central courtyard and outside gardens are well kept and peaceful. My wife has made friends with others dealing with their parents in memory care and it has truly been a community.

Bright and airy, tastefully decorated, the Winding Commons Senior Apartments are where I'd want to…read morelive when I become unable to live on my own. The grounds are beautiful. There are nice seating areas outdoors and in. In the main lobby is a WII, which was being used as we toured. I was impressed with the number of residents that were out an about and friendly and engaging. Other senior apartments did not seem to have as many happy residents. Only two meals are served each day, lunch and dinner, with a limited selection of choices, but apartments include a full (albeit small) kitchen. Apartments have a nice patio or balcony. There is only one elevator for the entire facility, which seems like a potential hazard if the residents on the second and third floors have mobility problems and need to be evacuated in an emergency. Hallways are covered with smooth industrial (though tastefully patterned) carpet. Apartments however, are carpeted in a deep plush. This makes it difficult for residents using walkers to maneuver in their own apartments. Winding Commons is owned by the same company as Campus Commons Senior Apartments. Winding Commons is the better of the two.

The management and maintenance man tried blaming it on her. The maintenance man told her to place her used paper in the garbage can. Come to find out the maintenance man had turned the waterflow down on the toilets. His own words were he thought the pressure was to high. They feed their residents over cooked chicken nuggets, not nutrious meals. My mom wears a pendant to press for help when she falls. She fell and laid on the floor for over half an hour. When she broke a glass lamp she requested help to clean it up. They picked up the large pieces and put them in a box and left the box on the floor. They didn't even sweep up the shards of glass. When she signed up we clarified that she would be able to go places and on trips. The director said it wouldn't be a problem. Come to findout that's not true. The director had her moved to lockdown. She said it was because my mom was getting into Uber cars. I couldn't take my mother to an appointment so i told her to go ask the lady at the reception desk to help her book a ride. She took a taxi to her appointment and returned to the facility. They will tell you anything to get you to sign up. Once you have signed they will nickel and dime you for everything. She moved in last July. We were sent a letter to increase her rent in January. We complained and they ended up not increasing the rent. We were just sent another letter saying if the residents wanted to keep tv services they will have to pay $50.00 a month. When you sign the contract they tell you it's included. This is the only entertainment for some of the residents who are bed bound. Please keep looking. Don't place your loved one here. My brother and I are trying to get our mom out. The facility is making it impossible.

Sharing our (very!) positive experience with AH in Orangevale recently. The staff at AH helped make the transition back home for her very welcoming, prepared and thoughtful.
