This was a great hotel in Marshalltown. Friendly service, clean room, surprising great breakfast, and a clean and well maintained gym. The front desk went out of their way to make sure my room was right next to my mom's. We hadn't made the request in advance - I was grateful for the accommodation. When I come into town again, I will most definitely stay here.

We stay here when we visit family in the area. Being loyal HiltonHonors members has us stay at the only property in the area. The Good: The hotel is fairly new and well maintained. The staff for the most part is friendly. The rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast is plenty and coffee is always available. The Bad: Being a Diamond Honors member, we are used to being greeted and thanked for being a HiltonHonors member, which the staff here has never done. Also our complimentary items are never offered. After asking for them, we do receive them after some hesitation from the front desk staff. The water pressure in any room of the hotel is very weak and makes raking your daily showers no fun at all. This is nothing the hotel has control over since they are about the furthest from the water tower in town. The Ugly Truth: We enjoy our stay here for the most part as the rooms are clean, breakast is nice, the pool and fitness room are kept up as well. As mentioned above the staff seems to not be very excited to have gainful employment. If there would be different Hilton properties in town we would definitely give them a try over this one. The location is nice with easy access to the major highways, shopping and dining in town as well.

Ac right next to desk and couch blowing on you the whole time.

Stayed here twice the first time thought was a fluke so didn't review. However, same thing this time the shower doesn't drain and the toilet doesn't flush properly and the same bedside light is out that is needed not to go to bed in pitch darkness. The staff is great but the hotel leaves something to be desired. Oh and the complementary breakfast is worse then prison food in Russia.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Marshalltown Iowa. These are not mosquito bites as it's January but bed bug bites. I didn't notice until after I left and they started itching. Yuck! I basically threw my suitcase out with clothes as I'm not bring them into my house. The breakfast was nasty, staff extremely rude. I heard them gossiping about another guest before she came down. Completely disrespectful and unprofessional. They discriminate as well. I will never stay there again. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn, just opened in July right next door. I hear the staff is amazing and a breath of fresh air. Nah I'll pass from now on!

Pros Clean/newer Nice work out room new equipment space Location is right off the freeway (see below for help locating it) Best in marhalltown Lot of power outlets in rooms Friendly staff Cons The room we were in was a king. It was large, but there was basically nothing in it. It was awkard. It's a huge room with the bed and a small desk and lot of leftover floorspace that doesn't include a fridge/microwave. Big bummer on that. There's a small flatscreen, but I'm not kidding it's on the opposite side of the room and from the bed you can barely make out anything from so far away haha.. it sounds odd I know, but seriously you could have a breakdancing party with all the space. The breakfast was worse than other Hampton Inns (I live in Hampton Inns as I travel 100% for work). There were no bananas/oranges, just bitter small apples. The only cereal option was rice crisps. Of course there was your normal powdered eggs, but overall options were limited. Have you ever been to a hotel where the doors to the rooms are super heavy and all you hear is them slamming closed all the time? Why can't they just adjust them to close lightly? The hardware is there.. use it. **Can be hard to get to. When you get off freeway head straight until you see the Baymont Suites sign and then turn left. You'll want to turn towards it much sooner, and google maps has a hard time figuring out how to get to it.

The Room is amazing and beautiful ...

Nice enough for a hotel along the highway, better than a motel. Very nice, helpful staff.

The price of…read morethis hotel should be significantly reduced or improvements should be made to justify prices! When this hotel first opened it was THE place to stay. Sadly it's the same decor as when it forest opened I'm pretty sure, from late 90s. I will say the front desk manager was lovely. She was friendly as was the other front desk staff. When you walk into the lobby you're hit with the smell of moth balls mixed with chlorine....mmmm. The Christmas decor is still up in June, and the lobby furniture is dilapidated furniture that looks like it was picked up from a doctor's office. They serve sugary cereals and nothing but cheap pastries (probably from a bag of doughnuts and served individually), white bread (no whole grain or whole wheat), waffles, and some yogurt. The eggs, bacon, and sausage was ice cold. And the coffee tasted like ass. This is the continental breakfast. Walk across the street for Casey's pizza instead. My bed was comfortable enough. I slept well each night. I brought my own blankets and I'm glad as the blankets provided are pretty thin. Air conditioning didn't work the best, so thin blankets probably would've been fine. We booked a king suite which is 2 rooms. You couldn't feel AC much from the other room. In the second room there's a pull out couch to sleep on. The mattress was ripped, torn, and stained. Good thing we brought our own blankets. I also booked a standard double queen room for my adult children. Their room didn't have a working fridge or lamp. The food they put in the fridge went bad. We did enjoy our in room jacuzzi. Good thing we had that as they tore out the hot tub in the swimming area. I don't think their website tells you that. So be aware. The swimming pool still works and can be used. If you're looking for a place to crash while passing through and there's no where else to stay, this place is fine. But the Hampton Inn across the street is the same price and WAY better! (My in-law's stayed there and I checked it out during the same trip). I wouldn't stay here again.

Also advised NO elevator! So had to get the front desk guy, my brother in law and myself to get myself, my cat and luggage up the staircase! Now you had go through a "Mantance style desk with fellow standing there, and through laundry room. So I get up to my room finally, the card key doesn't work! So I sat on my luggage waiting for front desk fellow to get new key. As I sat there, there are Hispanic men dressed, had backpacks on them wondering around the hallways. So I got in room, I still not feeling comfortable! So in morning I called front desk and told them since they got this disabled Lady on 2nd floor they need to get me down! Which they did! My Sister came to my room after trying to find the way around this maze of hotel! So I was coming down I noticed all the Hispanic men lining up for lunch! So in reality these men are migrant workers using this hotel as a camp! It was disgusting! About a dozen yellow transport buses parked out back! Oh so when I first checked in was told they were sold out!!! I mentioned I didn't see an abundance of cars out there! So there only the buses not any normal BW customers! So using the Best Western name they do not cater to the BW customers but only the profit from the migrant camp! Would NOT recommend this place to anyone !

Colonial Inn Marshalltown IA…read more I'm afraid the only good things I can say about this place may actually be bad things: they allow dogs without additional charge and they charge $45 a night. However, the mattress on the bed was so soiled and the room smelled so bad I was enormously happy that I had picked up an old army cot at an antique store on my way across country. I did not see any bed bugs; nevertheless I set the feet of the cot in water-filled pie pans just to be safe, effectively creating a moat around my bed. I left the pup to fend for himself and felt a little guilty about it. The bathroom was clean and the tv worked, though the HBO advertised was impossible to find. As this place seems to have weekly rates, you may have a neighbor, as I did, visited by the cops at 10 pm, followed up by a voluble argument with his woman. If so, the tv volume does work and back-to-back episodes of law and order are extremely soporific. In the morning though, if you've been able to sleep through the traffic noise from the highway, the innkeeper and her adorable 4- year old grandson, both of whom began lurking noisily outside my door in the morning and the hacking sounds of tuberculosis or lung cancer through the walls from the neighbors will be enough to get you up and out the door bright and early.
