Oh man, where do I start. . . The beginning, I suppose. Four of us were heading to the Volbeat, Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica show at the Iowa Speedway. I went onto Expedia to book a nearby hotel in the area. We just wanted a clean place to crash after the concert. So the night before, I looked up the hotel on Yelp and I saw some disturbing images that included bed bugs! Nightmare, right? Too late to cancel so we thought we would hope for the best since the photos and 2 unrecommended reviews from a year ago or 2. When we got there, the front desk lady Marla tells us of the issues they are having with staffing and people not showing up for work. That worried us more. The lobby was small but clean and appeared to be recently remodeled. That put me at ease. Obviously this is a Motel 6, you don't expect much. When we got our cards we first wanted to check out the room. When we entered, the room seemed to be recently updated with bare bones essentials which made me feel better. We pulled back the sheets, they were clean but they were also stained in several places. We found it to be okay. We found a moldy glass of yuck under my bed. That was putrid but isolated. I looked at the bathroom. It was sort of updated. The tile floors are chipped and very dated. We determine the room will do. I wanted to take the moldy glass to the front desk. They didn't say much. I mentioned bed bugs pictures from a year ago and she (Marla) says "People bring them in to get a discount on the room." She went on blaming customers and not acknowledging any of the concerns, offered no explanation either. No responsibility for the issues. Everything was someone else's fault. Poor customer service. The funny thing is she bragged of being" in the business" for some time. The overall maintenance of the whole hotel/motel. The updates looked like they hired a middle schooler did it. Floor boards with gaps at seams, at the baseboard, Stevie Wonder was painting everything here. The furniture, light fixtures glass and more. Walls and ceiling patches that looks like they were done with bare hands. There are things everywhere you look. They use a stolen Walmart cart (it is Walmart, the baby seat strap said Walmart) as a maids cart. If you don't believe me, I took photographic proof. Feel free to browse the experience of photos I posted.
I would give this place a one but they have some updates even though they weren't done well. Motel 6 is very basic. If you forgot anything, don't ask the front desk, just go to the vending machine in the hall. We stayed in room 112. The bathroom fan makes noise but doesn't work. I actually wonder if they have any management at all. They definitely do not help when short staffed, just dog the staff and customer, I guess. read more
