Left the room on Sunday morning after two days stay. 6-28-30. Checked my banking I noticed another charge of 95.20. I sent a email requesting an investigation. No response in eight days. Today I called and clerk said I left something in the room so I was charged another night. Which is false. OMG! Arrived at 4 am after having U-Haul blow tire and having to wait 3 hours for tire change/fix. So as a disabled Lady was told they only had rooms on 2nd floor! Also advised NO elevator! So had to get the front desk guy, my brother in law and myself to get myself, my cat and luggage up the staircase! Now you had go through a "Mantance style desk with fellow standing there, and through laundry room. So I get up to my room finally, the card key doesn't work! So I sat on my luggage waiting for front desk fellow to get new key. As I sat there, there are Hispanic men dressed, had backpacks on them wondering around the hallways. So I got in room, I still not feeling comfortable! So in morning I called front desk and told them since they got this disabled Lady on 2nd floor they need to get me down! Which they did! My Sister came to my room after trying to find the way around this maze of hotel! So I was coming down I noticed all the Hispanic men lining up for lunch! So in reality these men are migrant workers using this hotel as a camp! It was disgusting! About a dozen yellow transport buses parked out back! Oh so when I first checked in was told they were sold out!!! I mentioned I didn't see an abundance of cars out there! So there only the buses not any normal BW customers! So using the Best Western name they do not cater to the BW customers but only the profit from the migrant camp! Would NOT recommend this place to anyone ! read more

I can't quite figure out the past reviews because this is one of the best bang for the bucks I've had traveling in a long time. Check in was easy. Staff couldn't be better. My room was fantastic. Clean! Big! Well stocked and everything worked fine. It was very nice. No pet fee as it was waived. Tons of grass. I could not find one negative and just wish they were all this great. Let me also mention the outstanding Sunday included breakfast!! Loaded! 2 different scrambled eggs, 2 potatoes, bacon, ham, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and More!!! But. If you are handicapped there is no elevator to second floor. Just be aware. It's stairs. Loved loved this place. I only gave it four stars for lack of elevator but I needed the exercise! We recently had my daughters birthday party at the Best Western in Marshalltown. We reserved a poolside banquet room. When I got there they tried to put us in a different room and acted as if they had no idea that was what we reserved. The desk clerk couldn't find our reservation even though we had already been charged an $200 deposit. They Finally pulled out a little piece of paper with our name on it but no other details. The manager and front desk clerk had 2 completely different stories. After they finally got us the room we had agreed to rent we asked if there was a thermostat to turn the heat on and they brought in 2 small propane heaters. The pool water wasn't clean and there was no heat in the building. They charged $400 for a dirty pool that the kids could only swim in for an hour because it was so cold. Don't go to the Best Western in Marshalltown. It's a rip off and they treat their employees terribly. I wish I would have taken pictures. read more

Had a meeting here in one of the conference rooms a few weeks ago. The ac was broke the whole time and it was hot as hell. Now for the positive. We were served some tenderloin sandwiches and homemade chips that were out of this world. I was only there a short time, but I had to get the word out about the chips. read more

Attended the Blue Grass Festival here last night. It is a simple hotel property just off the 30 highway. Easy to get to, and for the low room rates you get a simple property. The staff was friendly and there was definitely a "local" vibe. The room that held the events was a good sized room I can see being used for a wedding or other kind of event. The gym didn't have a door, so as a woman I don't know how comfortable I would be exercising by myself. There is a bar/food option connected called O'Hungrys and the three girl bartenders were not sure how to make a martini but they googled it and asked us if it was ok. It was. We had the sampler with onion rings, cheese curd and 4 chicken pieces. It was fine for a quick bite of bar food. Overall, we were comfortable and didn't have unrealistic expectations. read more

Probably the worst hotel I've stayed at they had to switch my room once for a tub that wasn't installed properly and water was getting was settling underneath it and smelling something awful. Switched rooms to wake up to a cockroach crawling around so now I have to go through all my things. The restaurant wasn't busy and it still took forever to get the worst bloodymary I've ever had so we didn't even try to eat there. You have to go to the front desk every morning to get a breakfast ticket or get harressed hopefully they'll be somebody behind the front desk, just a terrible experience all around especially when your working out in the field all day in this weather I need to get your key reset constantly. read more

I couldn't really go above one star because the girl at the front desk was all it took for us to not want to stay there. We were coming from KC, heading to Decorah to the amazing Toppling Goliath brewery & needed a place to stay for the night. Didn't catch her name but the girl at the front desk (black hair, nose ring) acted totally annoyed that we even disturbed her. The phone ringing annoyed her. The text messages on her phone annoyed her. The guest who asked for towels annoyed her. Hell, I struggle to think of something that didn't annoy her in the 5 minutes that we annoyed her. We just asked about rates & availability & she proceeded to ask questions pertaining to our address, etc & then just asked for a credit card. Ummmm, no. What is the rate? Oh, that annoyed her, too. And she was also annoyed that we found a cheaper rate online that she didn't want to consider matching. So, we decided we'd rather pay more somewhere else if necessary to save her from further annoyance. Skip this place. We chose Baymont instead. It's nearby & not nearly as annoying. Okay hotel. Biggest highlight is the indoor pool and the staff is very friendly. Breakfast is your typical hotel breaky! Rooms are your typical size and comfort. Friends reported clogged bathrooms but mine was fine. Was here for work so not sure on the price. read more

Worse experience ever and they have a perverted maintenance man who tried to open our door while my friend was changing but we thankfully had the door stop in place. He said they double booked the room and he was trying to let the other people in. That deactivated our room keys leaving us locked out when we got back from getting dinner. He then later took pictures of us through our window and then kicked us out for an electronic cigarette at 10:30 at night. Sent 5 maintenance and security people including the picture taking pervert to kick out 3 ladies in their 40's because I had a e cigarette in the room. Also charged for the room and 250 smoking charge for a smokeless cigarette. I have been having a rough time since losing my granddaughter and my friends drove over 2 hours to surprise me and make me leave my house for a night of friend therapy. It turned into a night of rudeness and high anxiety from the non hospitality of this motel and I would never recommend it to anyone. read more

Nice hotel, but our room smelled like somebody came in and took a giant shit and let it simmer for awhile, had to buy some spray to tolerate sleeping in there. The staff that checked us in was pretty nice but I have a service Animal and I walked inside from smoking and taking my dog to potty and the manager bitch yelled at me that I couldn't bring him inside and I explained he's a service dog she very rudely requested to see the papers (that were already in thier system) and she began questioning me and calling me a liar and threatening to make me have to switch hotels because "she just was not gunna have THAT in "her" hotel" but once I got that bitch in line it was OK. It was very embarrassing. Now every time I see her in the lobby she gives me hell. I noticed she was very rude to a few other people also. Plus no elevator so if u stay here and have a lot of luggage u better request a room floor. read more

Incident #1 occurred when our motel room door was opened with a key card from the hallway. After the door opens a hand stuck through the door and tried to undo the inside security bar. I was changing clothes and quickly finished, opened the door and asked if I could help them. Standing in the hall was a janitor with a couple. The motel had been overbooked and this couple had been given the same room. The janitor rolled his eyes and started talking on his radio. At this point I'm assuming this has been resolved. We later leave to get supper. Upon returning our key cards do not work to enter our room. We go to the front desk to find out why. The receptionist, who is unbelievably rude, looks in her computer and tells us that my friend has been seen smoking in the room. I stated that no, she was not smoking, she has an e-cigarette, that only has steam, no smoke. The receptionist states that smoking, e-cigarettes, and marijuana are not allowed. Although I felt this was an odd response I did apologize and promised it would not happen again. We were then let back into our room. In the evening, my friend was standing at the motel window and noticed that this same janitor who tried entering our room was in a van outside and took her picture through our motel window. We were all perplexed at the insanity of our experience with this motel so far. Since my friend could not use her e-cigarette in the room, she began to go outside to smoke actual cigarettes. Our motel room was on the main level and the window opened so my friend stood outside our window while smoking so she could still talk to us. She was at least 2-3 feet away from the window. Around 10pm she was coming back in from smoking when the same janitor who tried entering our room and took her picture met her at our motel room door stating we had been warned about smoking in the room, stating he knew she was smoking because he had picked up cigarette butts outside of our motel room window. We did try to explain that she had been outside smoking next to our room but he would not listen. He had brought several other people with him. He stated the police had been called and told us we were being asked to leave the motel. At this point of our experience I completely agreed that I no longer wanted to stay here. While we were gathering our things to leave he stood in the hallway laughing and joking loudly with his "crew". I was charged $74 for our room and an additional $250 fee for smoking in the room. I sent and email to Best Western Motel on a national level and a message on facebook messenger to the Marshalltown motel itself. I only received a response from the national chain stating that people smelled smoke and she was seen smoking. Granted, the e-cigarette she had did look like a regular cigarette accept much bigger. We smelled odd smells in the hallway too. My friend did not smoke an actual cigarette at all in our room and stopped smoking her e-cigarette in our room after we were reprimanded for it. I firmly believe this motel was overbooked and started finding reasons to evict us. read more
