Hotel was undergoing a remodel when there. Wait until it's done - very noises and messy! We stayed in an updated room. We could still hear the conversations of our neighboring rooms, the walking in room above us, TVs playing, children running up and down the hallways... The shower doors allowed water to go out onto the bathroom floor - bad design. The sliding barn door on the bathroom was very stiff and was almost an inch away from frame. That is a bad design! The bathroom is not very private. They should have left it as a swing door, at least they close completely. If you do stay here, enjoy the view into town when you leave the hotel and head into town as you look out past the hospital onto the bay. read more

My family had a horrendous and horrible experience at Hampton Inn in Petoskey, MI. We booked there for a 2 night weekend stay for a soccer tournament my son was having there. We booked through booking.com. Upon our arrival at 11pm, we walked into a hotel that was 100% under construction. The whole hotel reeked of paint fumes and dust everywhere and full construction equipment everywhere. I immediately mentioned to the front desk staff that this was unacceptable. They agreed and offered us a full refund. Because it was 11pm, and my kids were asleep, and we didn't have another reservation, we agreed that we'd check out in the morning and still get a full refund. In the morning upon checkout, after we were awoken at 7am due to heavy banging and construction related noises and dust, the front desk staff including the supervisor again assured me a full refund. They mentioned that I'd need to initiate it with Booking.com to call the hotel and release the funds. Fast forward 10+ days. I still do not have a refund after communicating to both the hotel and booking.com. Booking.com informed me that the hotel just recently authorized 1 day of refund. Again, I was informed by managers, supervisors, and front desk staff that it would be a full two day refund, multiple times. They are not holding true to their promise. On top of that, when I said I would hammer them with reviews of this topic of being dishonest and not holding true to their word, they hung out on me multiple times. They they claimed I was doing things to their staff multiple times during the short 7 hour stay. The only thing to note with the staff was that we forgot two of our personal pillows in the room because we were trying to get out of the room as quickly as possible from the paint fumes circulating in the air. I called the hotel 2 hours later asking if they could help track down my pillows since it was so recent. They all claimed they couldn't find them anywhere and weren't willing to help beyond that. Given that they were $200 down pillows and only a couple hours had passed since forgetting them, I came to the hotel looking for them. I asked the housekeepers where they thought they might be, and they said definitely in the laundry room. The employees at the front desk resisted allowing me to check out the laundry room with them. Finally I convinced the employee to take me down with him, and what do you know, as soon as we opened the door, the two pillows where right there. My final thoughts are, please do yourself a favor, and spend your money on another hotel nearby. There are some great options around there. We rebooked at Courtyard by Marriott not far from there, and it was 50% cheaper and 20 times better. They staff was courteous and professional, unlike the dishonest staff and manager at Hampton Inn. We will never stay at Hampton Inn Petoskey or any other Hampton Inn for that matter again. Thanks Renee and team at Hampton Inn, we appreciate all the lies! read more

This hotel has had some modern updates. Some potential negatives: It's on top a tall hill overlooking the bay so expect to be able to hear wind while inside your room no matter the time of year. The walls are also very thin so we unfortunately heard a lot of drunk people being obnoxious outside our room in the hallways and neighboring rooms. Positives: the gentleman at the counter, Wally was amazing. Efficient and kind. Made a few jokes and generally made our checkin enjoyably smooth. gorgeous dining lobby with complimentary continental breakfast. A fitness room near the elevators. Large pool ranging from 3ft-5ft which is heated. A spa tub that fits 6-8 people (main reason we booked was to enjoy the tub to escape the winter cold) the room is HUGE, clean and the temperature was controllable. Beds were comfortable. We didn't use the shower but all the health and beauty items provided with neutragena brand. I booked on my Expedia app and used points so our stay in total was $119. most guests seemed to be families with small children this time of year but their focus was skiing in the area... otherwise a bunch of loud drunk younger people but that's to be expected in a resort town. read more

I had a reservation Tuesday at this property. I just tested positive for Covid that afternoon. So I called to inform them. This hotel will not provide a refund or a credit. It seems they would rather have me stay with them and possibly infect all other guests and staff, than to be kind and understanding, by extending at least a credit towards a future stay, if not a refund. The hotel and its corporate owners are giving me a huge runaround on this. You'd think people would be sympathetic to fellow Americans who have contracted this horrible disease. Staff was friendly, but room was terrible. Window faced the parking lot, and was not equipped with blackout blinds. Just a white wispy material that blocked no light. Bright white light illuminated the room all night. Fan did not stay on when set yo continuous and would only move air while the AC was running. We sat in the fire place lobby and were told at 1030 pm to go back to our rooms. We were 12 adults with six kids. This hotel also shut the lights on us, while we were in the lobby. We were not loud and our children sat around very polite and quiet. At 11pm we were told again that we needed to go to our rooms. This hotel has many big groups for winter skiing and many young groups that converge in the lobby. I'm sure they are not asked to go to their rooms. Very unprofessional hotel! Very unprofessional front desk girls. Since when is it ok for the workers to smoke a cigarettes out in front of the hotel. We had some women in our party that wore scarves on their heads. My guess is that we were discriminated because of our dress. read more

The staff was the best part of our stay at Hampton Inn & Suites Petoskey. We stayed from Tuesday, 10/01/19 through Thursday, 10/03/19 and they were all attentive, friendly and warm. We were greeted immediately upon our arrival and everything about the hotel, from the fitness facility to the free breakfast, was explained to us. We stayed in a suite and it was nice and clean. Our only complaint was the bed was not comfortable-my wife and I woke up with aches and pains in our chests and lower backs. The pillows didn't offer much support for our heads and necks either. They called it a suite, but it was really just one big room. There was a king sized bed in the main area and then in a secluded section of the room there were two twin beds, which were bunk beds formatted to be used on the floor only. Our three-year old son slept on one of the twin beds and our one-year old son slept in his pack and play. We were expecting one suite with two rooms-a family room and a bedroom, but that's not what we got. They had an indoor pool and jacuzzi, but we didn't use those. We were only at our suite at night to sleep. We ate the free breakfast both mornings and it was easily the best breakfast we have ever had a hotel. They had freshly pressed juices, warm oatmeal with multiple options for toppings, different cereals to choose from, a fruit salad, other fruit options like bananas and apples, and they had two waffle irons with two options for waffle batters. The juice options on the first day were orange juice and peach mango juice. The next day they offered peach mango juice and sweet greens juice. The first time we had breakfast there, they offered mini egg white frittatas and breakfast chicken sausages. The next day they offered breakfast herb sausage with mini western omelettes. The two options for waffle batters both days were cinnamon roll waffles and vanilla malt waffles. All of the food was outstanding! Both egg dishes were warm, fluffy and tasty. The meat dishes were good too. The fresh juices were refreshing and the waffles were full of flavor. We had a good experience at this hotel, but we can't overlook the amount of aches and pains we sustained from sleeping on that king sized bed. read more

I stayed here for one week. Although Petoskey is the nicest town I have ever been to, this hotel isn't. During my stay, the hotel I noticed the bed covers had discoloration on them. (I hope it was from food). My first night was OK since I checked in at 11:30 PM and had to work at 6 AM. MY first issue was, the water there has so much chlorine init, that the coffee was disgusting. I have to have coffee to kick-start myself. I made it downstairs, got a better cup of coffee and took off for my day. Returning to the hotel after a 14 hour day, I noticed my bed was made sloppily, and my bathroom floor had a stain like mud from a shoe on the tile. I just passed this stuff up and went to bed. My next morning, I went to make coffee and there was no regular coffee as they didn't restock my coffee. I had to go down stairs and get coffee. No biggie, I needed it. That evening, I returned, and noticed they didn't give me any shampoo, coffee again,nut my room was a little more tidy. I did talk to the from desk and they offered to bring me these things and I didn't want them as it was very late and I was tired. The next morning, I did my thing, going to work, came back and this time, I guess they made up by giving me extra shampoo, bar soap, and conditioner. They also gave me all regular coffee placing the decaf as well with regular packets. Now It was nice, maybe what they did however, I cannot drink the coffee with there water source. I am a diamond member and am sad to see a Hilton like this.Very disappointing. Housekeeping issues seem to be a continual thing here daily with inconsistencies in cleaning details. Also this is noticed as the furniture is tired or not taken care of. Front desk people were very helpful and friendly, which is what you would expect for a Hilton Brand. read more

Woke up at 3:30am to a creaking floor above me..relentlessly until 6am when I gave up, got dressed and left. I drove in from Detroit to relax and go to Mackinak island. Now I'm exhausted leaving at 7am instead of sleeping in. Worse ...when I complained the desk challenged me that my room was below a pantry and mocked me by saying " it must have been Caspar" but then afterwards admitting it " might" have been the guy getting breakfast ready. Thanks for challenging my veracity while I am already exhausted and cranky from my expensive , ruined stay. As a parting shot, I was chided that I should really " get a higher floor" next time. I had such high hopes for this Hilton property in Petoskey. I was very disappointed for many reasons. Check-in: I am a HHonors diamond member and get a couple of bottles of water and a snack upon check-in. The front desk didn't acknowledge my status and didn't offer any of these things to me. Room/bathroom: they were quite dirty. I found stray hair in the bathroom and the room was a bit dustry. Gym: I went to the gym in the morning to work out- there are 2 treadmills and an elliptical here. No weights. I decided to use the large medicine ball to do crunches only to find out that it was deflated and needed air. It also didn't have any towels! I will not be returning to this property. read more

I understand there is a premium associated with the location and time of year, but in my opinion there was an incredibly large gap between what you paid for and what you received. Returned to the Hampton Inn as the prices were great and the location convenient to downtown Petoskey, but a little far from Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob (20 to 25 minute drives depending on traffic). As our room was on the floor above the main entrance (where the smokers congregate), we could hear all of the many interesting conversations the smokers had all night. Not the best situation. Husband and I enjoyed our stay here. The staff was incredibly friendly. Our room was always clean and neat. The complimentary breakfast was good. I am a Hilton Honors member and got my goodies at check in. At check in, our room was upgraded to a pretty large room when the front desk lady saw how much luggage we had (we had been traveling for quite a while). Our room was a king size handicapped room, which was fine with us. I have issues with my feet, so the bars in the bathroom were welcome. We had a view of the lake. I truly enjoy staying here. The free breakfast doesn't have the best fruit or yogurt in my opinion, but that's not enough to deter me, and there's still a wide selection of food to eat. The coffee is also very good. I've stayed here three times already, and it's like a home away from home when I'm in Petoskey. Clean/well-kept, nice staff, close to both downtown Petoskey and a few major stores like Meijer or Walmart (was able to get a few emergency things because I forgot my phone charger all the way home, 4 hours away, and my toothbrush), some fast food restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies, and even some churches. I was pleased to have a 10 minute drive to the local Catholic Church, St. Francis Xavier. Very well-placed hotel. I would just suggest improving the morning breakfast spread a little, and making sure all of your rooms have everything fixed/replaced that need to be. My first time that I stayed, I forgot to mention before I left, I had no hairdryer in my room. It had been removed from the wall- and I've been packing mine ever since even though it turns out I didn't need to, because the other rooms I stayed in had one. It's hard to predict what I need to pack with inconsistency, which can be pesky. I would also recommend allowing the feature in the Hilton Honors app for guests to use their mobile phones as room keys. I stayed in a Double Tree, which is also a Hilton property, as is Hampton Inn, which had this feature. It is so handy when you're carrying in luggage after check-in, or out before check-out, and for bringing in your treasures after shopping, plus there are lots of guests I see coming and going that are clearly there for outdoors activities, and lugging around outdoor gear. Just a thought, but at any rate I've been more than satisfied each time I've stayed! read more

I've never had a bad stay at a Hampton Inn but it happened. Mind you a lot has to do with the room. Staff was fine food was normal but the room that's another story. For $254 a night you would expect a better bed. Both of our beds squeaked and creaked every time you move which made it hard to fall asleep. The ac was making a loud buzzing sound that was abnormal. Our room was the closest room to the hotel lobby and was very noisy. We could hear people coming and going, talking, laughing, kids screaming which didn't help us sleep well. I was woken up by the room next to ours bed, it was squeaking as well. I love Hampton Inns but this one I won't stay at again. If you do avoid rooms on the first floor especially room 216. read more

ZERO EMPATHY FROM A NEARLY NON EXISTANT STAFF Never again will I stay at a Hampton Inn. I will not even stay at another Hilton property. Way over priced for what you get. The hotel felt and is dirty and dated. Hallway carpets are extremely dirty and out dated. The room had stained furniture which felt like sitting on plywood they were so old. The carpet in the room was disgusting and looked like it had not been vacuumed from the people in the room before us and possibly the people before them. The sink had a 2 inch hole in the porcelain near the drain and the bathroom was tiny and discolored and the tub was not what I would call clean. The ceilings and walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything going on above and around you. The TV didn't work the first night, and after calling down to the desk with zero assistance, we spent an hour fixing it ourselves. There was never anyone at the front desk when we came in or when we would leave. The staff seemed to be in the back office trying not to interact with the guests. At one point we watched a father with his son reach over the desk to get what he needed because nobody was there. We had to call down to the front desk several times and each time were put on a 5-minute hold before we could talk to anyone, clearly the staff is just hoping you give up or resolve the issue on your own. After a long drive and checking in on Friday we wanted to sleep in so we put the do not disturb sign on the door. We took it off on the way out at 11AM, to our surprise, we came back to a dirty room at 4 PM. We were forced to call down for more towels and the front desk never bothered to ask if we would like service at that moment. We were in Petoskey for an extremely sad funeral service on Saturday. We made our reservation through Hotels.com and after the services we were simply exhausted and didn't want to stay in this hotel for a third night on Sunday. Our reservation was booked in two parts (Friday and Saturday) and then Sunday night, so they had to activate the second reservation separately. We made them aware of our situation on Saturday (more than enough time to talk to Hotels.com and get the cancellation done) and were told to call our third party vendor. Hotels.com was willing to cancel our reservation but they had to clear it with the hotel for a refund. We called down to the desk and explained the situation but were told that a manager had to handle it and they wouldn't be in until Monday. This effectively left us high and dry since they activated the second reservation full well knowing we were trying to leave. When we checked out we again explained our situation to the front desk agent Ashley. Ashley was extremely aloof towards us and gave us a thousand-yard stare as she said there was nothing she could do and a manager would have to handle on Monday. No manager on site?? Now that I'm reading past reviews I see that Ashley is actually an acting manager and clearly not a very helpful one. Here is a quote from a response by the Hampton Inn "My Manager on duty Ashley handled this as best she was able to at the time". Again, clearly the front desk staff and managers have no consideration for guests and will actively lie to guests in order to rush you along and out. I can understand a cancellation fee of some kind and that would have been fair but to charge the entire nights stay is simply ridiculous. This time of year in Petoskey has to be the busiest season with sell outs almost every night for them. We felt very betrayed that the reservation we wanted to cancel was not, knowing full well that they probably would have booked the room almost immediately. I work in the hotel industry in Chicago and the staff here simply don't care, don't want to help and will rip you off. DON'T WASTE YOU HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS PLACE read more

I have stayed here three times, twice in winter for skiing and once in the summer. This was by far the worst experience. The room was showing its' age. One picture off wall completely, big crack and plaster fill on shower wall, bath could use a redo. The bedding appeared clean, except for a shoe print on the comforter. This room was in the basement which is a walkout. Still the basement though. Very quiet overall. I like Hampton properties all over the country and this was my first "hmmmm, ugh""" moment so I am probably lucky. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm one to give the benefit of the doubt....that being said this whole trip started on the wrong foot when we were "greeted" by the Fire breathing receptionist. this woman had an attitude from hell. I tried to chalk it up to her having a bad day. we however stayed several days and she was back at the desk on our last day. yet still a complete A-hole. I was with a group of 10 so we had three rooms. one of the rooms had an upcharge for a "water view" the view was the lake way the heck out in the distance. the main view was the top of the bed bath and beyond. now as for the rooms themselves wow. in my room they had a hole in the floor that was covered up with carpet. I about tripped in it. a big chunk of wood was missing from the dresser and a big dead bug was in the drawer. as for all the rooms...paint peeling from the ceiling and walls. what looked like mold was just painted over in the bathrooms. 4th-floor windows had no screens and almost fell apart trying to open them. I ended up propping them open with the trash can. skip breakfast. all your gonna get is a brown bag. the real kick in the pants was the cost. this hotel cost me more than the competition. I mean come on its owned by Hilton. The Hampton inn is such a disappointment. They have forever lost my business! read more
