They have a three course menu at a fixed price that is upscale, yet still affordable for a celebratory meal. Lots of classic French dishes with a northern Michigan spin. Everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Do one thing and get the chocolate soufflé with homemade whipped cream. It has a 20 min wait to make, but it is well worth the wait! The carrot cake for dessert redeemed a disappointing dinner. I always order the walleye and in the past it was broiled to perfection with a delicious sauce. This year the new chef is deep frying it and accompanying with a glob of brown lentils that was extremely unappetizing. The salad greens were fresh and good to eat. Since all but one of the reviews are old, I would like to give an update. We have stayed at the Terrace for years and always been pleased. But the ownership has changed recently (1-2 years ago), and though there have been some outward decorating upgrades, we were most disappointed this trip to find a much downsized cold breakfast-- mostly sweets and carbs. We had to find a real breakfast in town for my husband who needs protein before starting our day. The bar is now closed on Sundays and Mondays so no wine on the porch (you are invited to byob). Of course I didn't know that so was unprepared. I know all things change including increased room rates, but it was a disappointing stay. The location is great-- Bayview offers concerts and lectures. Close bike paths and great walking. read more

I truly love weekend getaways to The Terrace Inn! It's one of my favorite spots to rest and enjoy amazing cuisine in the 1911 Restaurant. I love to visit with guests in the Lobby and, in the warmer months, on the expansive porch. The rooms are charming and cozy, a delightful getaway in which to regroup and have long talks, and long walks with my husband. Situated in Bayview of Petoskey there's no end to the ambiance of tall trees and made by Little Traverse Bay. The chef is more than willing to make adjustments to the menu but there's also happy hour and later the evening cocktail hour in which to enjoy a nightcap before quietly retiring to rooms tucked away in the main floor and two floors upstairs. It is a beautiful old building and the staff is perfectly gracious .. a must-try if you haven't yet! read more

We have been here many times before. This trip was not the greatest. Changes from the new management are not impressive. From the outside "hospital look" , even though this was the original color , to the major change of the included breakfast, it seems more of a chain hotel. Maintenance is lacking. It looks like they are running it on a shoestring budget. Landscaping is needed as everything is overgrown. Room prices are higher, which is fine, but I expected something better. Probably the last time we will visit. read more

Just stayed at The Terrace Inn over Thanksgiving weekend, and loved it! We stayed in one of the king suites with a jacuzzi and kitchenette. It was so lovely! I used the jacuzzi every night... it was extra nice due to the colder weather and snow! I also loved the fireplace in the room... we utilized that every night, as well! The only reason I am rating this review with 4 stars is because of the bed. The mattress is SO FIRM. The first night, my husband and I both didn't sleep the best, and I was even sore the next morning. As the days went on, we both got used to the firmer mattress... but it was still just way too firm for us. The rest of the inn was fabulous! Every morning you get complimentary breakfast, and it is so yummy! There were multiple dishes and drinks to choose from. It was a great way to start every morning. The dining room is also beautiful with all the chandeliers! If you're not in the dining room, the lobby area is so amazing to relax in. With various board games to utilize, and a cozy fire to sit by... it's absolute perfection! If you're in the Petoskey area, I would absolutely check out The Terrace Inn! read more

Hands down best planked white fish in the region! And it's wonderful when you can enjoy your evening on the porch.

I reserved a room at this inn for my friend and I to stay at while my husband was out of state on his yearly golf trip. I don't know how I missed the fact that it is a Bed and Breakfast when I made reservations, but it was a very pleasant surprise. We got a room with two twin beds, they were four poster canopy beds, but they were missing the canopies. That didn't matter though, they were real cute. They were pretty high though and, being of a shorter stature, I'm not lying when I say it was a little difficult to get into bed each night. There was a real cute little chandelier hanging from the ceiling between the two beds. Being a B&B there wasn't a fridge in the room, but there WAS a communal fridge that we were able to use. Probably the only complaint I would have about this room is that there was no little table on which my friend and I could play cards. We ended up going out into the common area and used a coffee table to play cards at. Coffee is available most of the day, as is water for tea and hot chocolate. What really impressed me was the breakfast we got in the morning. We had to "reserve" our spot and we got the 9:15 time. I would have liked to go earlier, but evidently my friend wasn't willing to get up early. Once we were seated, the chef (I sure do wish I could remember her name) came and told us what was available and took our order. And then she cooked it. And it was simply the best breakfast I have had in a long long time! I chose an omelet. It was a two egg omelet with mushrooms, spinach, peppers, onions, and feta cheese. I am drooling just thinking about it. My friend got boring scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes. I also had the potatoes and they were amazing. The next day was more of a buffet style. There were a couple of different frittatas to choose from and a different kind of potato that was real good. The frittata was good, but there's nothing that would beat the omelet I had the previous day. Check in for our room went great and I am ashamed that I can't remember the name of the gal that checked us in. The gal at the counter the second day was very nice as well, I'm pretty sure her name was Patti. My friend and I enjoyed speaking with both of them. This place is a very nice place to stay. I just might have to stay there with my husband some day. read more

We stayed here a number of years ago & it felt more like a youth hostel. Some paint, new carpet & freshening did this Victorian facility a service. We did enjoy the Artist in Residence program & still have our oil painting. We don't recall breakfast being included but appreciated it & seeing the dining room. The biggest asset is the Bay View location with adorable Queen Ann architecture, & history Be sure to stroll "downtown" to the post office, gardens, Evelyn Hall, swing on the old timey double bench & read all the "History on a Stick" about John M. Hall & the Methodist camp based on 1800's New Jersey. And for heavens sake stroll across the pedestrian bridge to search for beloved Petosky stones & watch the sun set! read more

Since I have family in the area, we've stayed at quite a few hotels and motels in the Petoskey area, but this is the only place that feels homey. Belinda and Patty at the front desk (and Patty - sorry if I'm misspelling your name here!) absolutely make this place. No matter how busy they are, you feel like the only people in the entire hotel and their long lost friends when they greet you in the lobby. The building itself is beautiful, a step back in time, each room unique. We stayed in the Hemingway Room again this time (our first time back since covid), and found that the room was improved again over covid times - the bed was wonderfully soft, pillows perfect, new comfy chairs. But the lovely historical building would be nothing if not for Belinda and her team. They really do make the place! read more

My boyfriend found this place and we were won over by the look of it and the possible haunts. It was our first time in Petoskey and we were floored by how amazing this place was. Cool ambiance, decor, history and the staff was amazing. We did not eat there but the menu looked awesome. My boyfriend who loves to game was so happy with the fast WiFi. We are 100% going back and are thinking about having this hotel be a part of our future wedding. read more

This Historic Hotel and Restaurant is located inside Bay View, Petoskey, Michigan. Bay View is a National Historic Landmark community of nearly 500 Victorian cottages. The Inn sets on a bluff overlooking Fair View Park toward Little Traverse Bay. Petoskey downtown is walkable at 1.3 miles along a rail to trail and shoreline is 3 blocks away. There are 38 unique rooms with private baths. Some are smaller with 1 Queen Bed, some are Twin Bed, some are King bed with full bath and suites have King beds and jetted tubs. Breakfast is included with your stay. The restaurant is open most evenings in the summer (June through August) and Thursday through Saturday's off-season. Reservations are recommended. Indoor and Outdoor Dining are available the beautiful 1911 Dining Room. They also have a nice wine, beer and cocktail selection. Alcohol cannot be consumed on Bay View grounds, but is allowed inside the building and patios. Guests must purchase wine from the Inn to drink in common areas (exception is in your private guest room or if the bar is closed and you can't purchase on site). They are happy to get you wine glasses. Housekeeping is provided upon request during Covid. Signs are on doors to indicate whether housekeeping is desired or not. Bay View concerts are within walking distance. Schedule of programming is on Bay View website. There are many wineries, ski hills, biking and hiking trails, the beach, golf, boutique shops, galleries and lots of culture in the area. read more
