For starters, I stayed at this hotel during the Virginia governors housing conference, as this was one of the most convenient hotels in terms of location. However, I should've compared rates, because the host hotel, hotel Roanoke, a historic and beautiful hotel, was surprisingly almost $100 cheaper than this location. Not sure how they could justify charging $269 for something that was decidedly a value hotel experience, is beyond me, but anyway. Check in was rough to say the least. I was on a multiple room reservation and the young lady. checking in Couldn't figure out how to take my credit card for one room and not release the reservations for the others, so I ended up having to put my card down for both rooms. Only to find out later that they charged me for one full night the next morning, even though I was told I would only be charged a $50 deposit!! When I went back downstairs to have it fixed, the young lady couldn't explain why the charge for one full night was applied to my card when we weren't even due to check out for another two days!!! So I would definitely advise checking your card upon leaving this hotel to make sure you were billed correctly, especially at the inflated rate. Overall, the hotel is fairly new and in pretty good condition. The rooms were suitable but could've been cleaned better. There was several areas, including the small sofa, and the bathroom counter. where long straight hair had been left or not properly cleaned. They do serve a decent continental buffet style breakfast and there is a Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts located in the parking lot, so I guess that's one advantage, but ultimately, I would likely look for somewhere else to stay the next time I visit. read more

I struggled between rating this Hampton Inn at two vs three starts. At the end of the day, given the price I paid, two stars seemed about right. All-in-all, this Hampton Inn & Suites didn't live up to the experiences I've had at other Hampton Inns. The property seems run down and grungy. I almost didn't want to sit on the sofa in our room. It was nasty. The walls were pretty thin as well. I heard conversations from both sides of your room. The location is excellent! You can walk to a number of restaurants and bars in downtown Roanoke. Everyone I talked to was friendly and helpful. I'll probably try somewhere else next time, though. read more

All around a great stay. But for the rates they charge the shower cannot require a dang Ph.D. to operate. Yes it does OR it's rigged to use a pint of water a minute. As a prior and current Diamond Hilton member, I was not impressed at this hotel. The proximity to the various downtown sites and location is great. However, the cleanliness is not. Stayed at this Hampton Inn for a weekend and thought it was excellent! Location was very convenient to downtown sights and restaurants. It was a great base of operations for our stay in Roanoke. Parking is reasonable at $8 per day. The building itself looks very new and everything is clean and in good condition. Front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable and had a balcony that overlooked downtown with a view of mountains in the distant. It was very nice. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean with a large walk in shower. It was also pretty quiet, except when a baby next door started screaming late one night. The gym was clean and all the equipment worked. There was also a game room with some video games...might be good for kids. If you (and your kids) aren't screen-addicted zombies, you're just a short walk to the Lick Run Greenway, where you can walk, jog or bike all the way out to Valley View Mall. It's also a short walk to the Virginia Museum of Transportation, where you can spend hours. The hotel has the traditional Hampton Inn breakfast. We came a half hour before it closed one morning and they were low on waffle batter. Pastries were fresh and coffee was good. Only slight negative was when our room was serviced, the housekeeping staff didn't replace the cups or the coffee (which meant I had to put on pants and shoes the next morning to get my first cup of joe!). Other than that, it was a problem free stay. I also liked being close to bars and restaurants so I could enjoy a couple of cocktails and walk back to the hotel without the worry of having to drive or get an Uber. This hotel is superlatively clean and the service so personal, friendly, and relaxed. It's perfectly situated in downtown Roanoke with quick, walking-distance access to sights and activities, including the Taubman museum, the Center on the Square, restaurants, breweries, etc. Deschutes is literally right out the front door! I also walked to the beautiful greenway from here for a run. Most amazing thing about this hotel is that they have incredible bathroom lighting - sounds silly but we've all been in those hotel bathrooms with harsh fluorescent lights that make us look even more ragged after traveling, but these bathroom lights are actually flattering. I'd stay here again just for that. There's also a free breakfast buffet and a 24-hour coffee and tea service at reception, which I so appreciated! read more

Covid has been a wreck for all of us. Hampton has done a great job assuring everyone's safety. The lobby was well placed and marked out for proper distancing. The room was wonderfully comfortable, roomy and airy. The bed was firm but had enough softness that you lightly sunk into the mattress. The pillows are down filled and keep you cool a night. Bathroom linens are soft. Plenty of water pressure from the shower head. T.V. (directv) worked and functioned normally without any problem. The wifi was plenty strong without any interruption. I will say it was a bit tricky to get activated but was quickly resolved. The fitness center had more than enough options for a great workout. Water, towels, waar phones and cleaning cloths were provided. My family was very comfortable staying here and will rebook next time we're in 'Noke. read more

Great location in downtown Roanoke, within walking distance to all the fun downtown destinations. Room was very clean and nicely decorated. Had a great check-in experience and appreciate that the staff there was able to help us get checked in a little earlier than expected. We talked to several of the maintenance and housekeeping staff in the halls and all were really friendly and represent the Hampton brand well. I was in Roanoke for a wedding, and Jarromy at the front desk saved the day for me by letting me email him my speech and printing it out for me after I had issues printing to the printer the hotel has for guests. Thank you, Jarromy! He immediately said yes when I asked him, which was such a relief. He has a calm, reassuring, can-do attitude that is great for customer service. A female who was working the front desk had said the front desk was too busy to print the file out for me and told me I had to figure out how to print it out from the printer for guests (which apparently has issues printing out PDFs?). Luckily, Jarromy is awesome, and had a better answer when I asked him. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Highly recommend! It was the perfect place to stay for my friend's wedding and helped make our visit to Roanoke a great one. read more

Stayed one night, myself and a child. While getting ready for bed, noticed several toenail clippings on the bathroom floor. Upon further looking, realized there were toenails clippings scattered all the way to the area by the front door. SO GROSS. The pic I took also shows what can only be described as filth along the wall/floor. Called front desk, and she apologized and sent someone up with a key (30 minutes later) to change rooms. So I pack up the stuff and the kid and move. By now, it's past kiddo's bedtime, and as I start a bath I see long black hairs in the drain and on the side of the tub. Kid and I just went to bed dirty, too tired to deal. The stained and torn towels would have been useable, but I couldn't handle another room change nor did I want to clean stranger hair out of the tub. I shared the pictures upon checkout so housekeeping can perhaps be retrained. She seemed unconcerned, so maybe this review can facilitate some change. Beautiful stay here. We had the handicap room which is both good on some things and not so good on others. Wonderful view of downtown through huge windows. Large open spaces in the room and giant bathroom with walk-in shower. Hairdryer on back of door as there is no other place for it. We hung up towels on 2 hooks to reuse as told but the housekeepers replaced them everyday anyway. Odd placement of only electrical outlet for morning coffee in the room. Awkward. Paintings hung on the walls were in strange places but didn't cause nightmares. :) Downstairs breakfast was wonderful and the desk staff was friendly and helpful. This was my first time in Roanoke, Va. We were there to visit friends who relocated from NYC. Anyway, it was good. The hotel staff, especially the front desk, the young lady was so friendly and welcoming. The most important thing is the room was clean and comfortable. Nothing was old or stale. The hotel is modern and well kept. These things are important to me. Also, the view from my room was amaze balls! The bed was nice and comfortable and the breakfast was nice. I've never been in Roanoke,VA before. During my visit my significant other and I stayed in this hotel. Location of the hotel was so nice. It was very close everywhere in downtown. We stayed there for two nights during the stay hotel was pretty quiet until last night. There was a baby next room and was crying. For breakfast, there was a lot of options lots of choices. People were so friendly at front desk and other hotel staff as well. For car parking I was amazed because 24 hour parking was only $8 which it was amazing comparing other hotels I loved Roanoke! There is a transit museum which is only 7 minutes away to the hotel. It was so easy to get there. I highly recommend if you visit Roanoke and stay that hotel. Can't wait to go back there again. A truly second rate hotel that is in a state of continuing decline. What small amount of staff they have are slow, disinterested and surly. The lobby looks like a place going out of business. Guests are left to wander about looking for help. The fundamental service is to provide rooms; but that seems to be an aspirational goal more than a reality. Wsit here at 4:00pm on a rainy Sunday afternoon in the lobby surrounded by my luggage, still waiting for a room. No ETA, no accommodation, no apology. Just sitting and waiting. Starting to wonder how comfortable it might be for my wife and I to sleep here in the lobby. I usually stay at the Hotel Roanoke. Thought I'd try something different. What a mistake!! read more

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The location could have not been better, next to the downtown, walking distance. The parking is part of public parking so it doesn't have a "direct" access to the hotel but you simply need to walk outside to the next door and the hotel is right there, super easy and convenient! The service was fast and the staff was very friendly always. My room was super spacious, it felt like I got upgraded to Presidential suite. I had a nice working desk which I desperately needed during my stay for all the work that had piled up during my traveling. There is a little kitchenette with coffee machine and fridge and sink, very useful. This hotel ended my trip so well! Very glad it was recommended to me by my co-working read more

The location of this hotel is great. Right downtown, you are within walking distance to so many local shops and restaurants. Both times I have stayed here the rooms have been clean, the beds have been comfortable, and it has been oh so quiet. Travelling frequently for work, it is a nice treat when one can sleep through the night without hearing everything that goes on next door or on top of you. The parking scenario is a little strange. The hotel is built on top of a garage. The hotel key reader is no longer operational at the garage, so you have to pull a ticket and get it stamped at the desk every single time you park. The was slightly annoying if you are in and out a lot. My only complaint was that the front desk staff was not overly friendly. I didn't receive my water or snack or any acknowledgement that I was a diamond member. Not that it matters much, it's just nice to be greeted with a friendly face when traveling, and that didn't happen here. read more

Frankly, this review is of the Hilton Corporation and not reflective of the staff at this locale. As is typical of every post Reagan era run company, the rigidity and profit over people mindset has created an untenable and dangerous situation. How is it a company with over 8 billion dollars in revenue insists on running a bush league operation where half of the elevator capacity remains down in the time of Covid 19? Forcing people on to a single elevator is unconscionable. Not only are you taking our hard earned money without providing an essential service, you are risking the spread of this disease with the increased traffic and burden of a single elevator.Frankly, this is why the French brought on the guillotines the first go around. We first stayed two weeks ago on our road trip south and decided to stay again on our way back . Extremely clean and taking extra precautions with the CO-VID . As breakfast was not available due to the virus , extra coffee was provided in our room and the front desk reminded us they would gladly provide more . Very disappointed that this hotel will not help nurses during inclement weather. I called and explained that a few nurses and I work a 12 hour 7pm to 7am shift tonight and need to get a room to sleep tomorrow between 8am and 6pm before our next shift at the hospital. Snow and ice expected after midnight tonight and all day tomorrow. They said we would need to book TWO NIGHTS plus parking in order to sleep during the day tomorrow before we are due back at the hospital. The room was perfect--very clean and had everything I needed. I was also very needy because I was in roanoke to take the Bar exam and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, friendly, and positive! It was the best bar exam accommodation I could have imagined. And the free breakfast is a perk, an easy no brainer for breakfast and to grab snacks for the exam, which is exactly what you need the morning of. I have nothing but great things to say about my stay at the Hampton Inn. I arrived late at night after a long trip and was exhausted, Tina at the front desk was so bubbly and friendly and got me checked in quickly. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. They have your standard continental breakfast but Carmen and the staff tending the the breakfast area were lively and extremely helpful. Every staff member we encountered here spoke to us and everyone was so friendly. The hotel itself is great but it is definitely the staff that shines here. Would absolutely stay again! We checked In Thursday night and the younger male at check in was excellent. He was very nice, welcoming, helpful, friendly and professional. They have off street parking garage at $8 per day which is very reasonable and convenient. The hotel is beautiful and located in perfect location downtown, walking distance to everything. The lobby is very nice, modern and clean. The rooms are beautiful. They are modern, very large, extremely clean and have everything you need including a microwave, small fridge, full-size ironing board and iron. They have a small but Adequate fitness center and only thing they don't have is an indoor pool...no star deductions just For that because everything else is excellent. And last, but not least, the breakfast buffet is phenomenal. It has everything you would want and is included. It has got make-your-own waffles, scrambled eggs, cereal, boiled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, bagels, toast, English muffins, juices, fresh made yogurt smoothies, fresh fruit and more!!! read more

The staff is friendly, the location is ideal. The only reason this place isn't 5 stars is the smell in the rooms. It smells like someone made the carpet out of gym clothes. Musty, damp and stale. Staff was very accommodating and put me in another room. It smelled just as bad. They could use some help with the breakfast as well. Cold, yellow, tasteless egg cubes and sweaty, chewy bacon. Arrived at 5:15pm for our pre-booked King Suite that was supposed to be ready for 3pm check in and was told the room was not ready; housekeeping could not give an ETA. clerk asked us what we wanted to do and we told her get a refund; she said that was fine. we then went to the Hotel Roanoke. while driving there, Clerk called us and said "how far did you get, your room is now ready." We said no thanks. Should mention the horrible signage and total creeper vibes the parking garage gives off. We were told that the Manager would process our refund the next day (we arrived on Sunday June 11), and were given her business card. Sheila Kallum, the General Manager has not refunded us; has not bothered to return several calls both me and my husband have made to her. It has been 10 days. Horrible customer service. If I could give them a 0 rating, I would. Do better, Sheila and Hampton Inn. I was forced to dispute this with my credit card company and file a claim with Hilton Honors. even after that, Sheila still has not reached out. that is pretty sad. read more

My husband had to visit for work so my toddler and I crashed his trip. We checked in on Wednesday evening and stayed till Friday. The guest attendant was Amazing! I give her 5 stars alone. They were pretty busy with about 6 people in the lobby either checking in or recently checked in. She took her time and truly acknowledged each guest. She noticed we had a child and let us know the room we booked didn't have a second bed, it was just a sofa. She helped us get the correct room booked and didn't charge us any extra! The room was pretty clean, shower could have been cleaner. We had a great view of the city from the 9th floor with a balcony. The hotel is right across from the marketplace and a short walk to anything you need from food to entertainment. Things did tend to close early in the area, but it was during the week. The entire staff was very friendly, we ran into a few people from housekeeping who asked us how are day was and made sure everything was satisfactory. They even interacted with my daughter, noticing she made a visit to the Candy Shop. There wasn't much in the way of amenities, but they did have a free arcade game with a ton of classic games and free pinball, which my daughter loved. There was also an Xbox in the game room, but we didn't play. The breakfast was a great bonus! The food was good and the staff was super helpful getting everything we needed and helping us clean up. This place was great and we will stay again next trip. 5 stars well deserved! read more

My family and I were in town for a funeral. Jacqueline was at the front desk and made our stay awesome. Also it felt like she never left because we checked in around 5 pm the day before and then left about 1030/11 the next morning and she was still there. The hotel was amazing. My wife and I's room was HUGE. My parents and siblings all loved their rooms as well. The location is so easy for everything. It really made what could have been a sad visit to Roanoke much better.
