Liberty Trust is located right in the heart of downtown Roanoke. Perfectly placed. Charming old repurposed bank, with the bank vault in the lobby being quite a cool attraction to take a look at. Service was awesome. The young lady running the front desk from 3-11 was exceptionally friendly and shared lots of good information. My room was on the fifth floor of the hotel, and on a clear day would have had a great view of downtown Roanoke and surrounding environment. Bed? Super soft, super comfortable. Pillows were special. I wish I owned a couple of them (I believe they are down pillows). The bath towels were also special....I've never felt a towel quite like it. Hard to describe except to say softly enveloping. Same, I wish I owned a couple of them. Pretty much everything about the room was fine. My only suggestions would be moving the safe to a shelf in the closet, getting the coffee maker out of the closet, and moving the shower head (it's a great rainfall type showerhead but it's fairly close to the bulkhead). (And personally, I'd prefer "normal" coffee in the room, nespresso is provided and it's ok just not what I'm used to). I made these suggestions to the hotel via their survey and received a prompt reply from their regional director which was a nice touch. All in all a great stay, I'd definitely do it again. read more

We've stayed here a few times and have enjoyed it each time. Our rooms have been clean and comfortable and the location to the Taubman Art Museum and a variety of downtown spots can't be beat. If you aren't able to walk a couple blocks for the parking, this hotel is not for you. If you plan to walk around the wide array of Restaurants, shops and bars, it's great. The hotel lobby doubles as The Vault restaurant which on our most recent stay would've been a hassle for any hotel guests who thought they would relax in the lobby as it was Restaurant Week and they were totally booked and using all tables. With regard to other negative reviews, we had only courteous interactions and found our room at every stay to be clean and comfortable. They are "minimalist" and not decorated with hotel art. Some great black and white Roanoke railroad photos or old bank photos would be a nice touch. read more

Seems like we could comfortably call this a 5 star experience, due to check-in and out being extremely smooth, the room was rather large, the bathroom was extremely spacious, so it fit all of our needs, they did an an exceptional job of cleaning, and in no universe did we feel rushed or uncomfortable, so it was a very nice stay. Only two challenges were the remote didn't work for the TV and they reset it, but it still didn't work and the garage was a few blocks over from the hotel which wasn't quite ideal. My husband and I both inadvertently booked the same night at the hotel. (One was a refundable Queen room and the other, a non refundable double) Found out about it when we checked in and was told since we wanted the double room, we could take the non refundable portion as a future stay credit. We applied part of the credit towards the double room we we're staying in which was a higher rate. I asked for a voucher and was told it wasn't necessary because all the details would be in the reservation. Fast forward to now when I go to use the credit for a one night stay in February. I call the hotel and I'm told they don't deal with customer service by phone, you can only email them. I thought this was bizarre but after I emailed them and received a response saying that they decided to retain the remaining amount and it would no longer constitute a credit, I realized that they have no sense of dedication or concern for keeping satisfied guests. First and foremost I am so disappointed with this hotel as a whole. I brought all of these concerns to the front desk and then the manager of the hotel. There was a filthy vent above and as you can see it is filled with dirt and dust. I have asthma . My husband and I sneezed the entire time we were there. 2nd issue, the housekeeper left dirty towels for us to use after she changed the bed. She also picked up one of the dirty towels off the floor to be exact to clean the drinking glass which I witnessed myself . She also left the dirty towel on the floor and also left her cleaning supplies in the room. I called downstairs to get new towels and they sent up the maintenance guy to bring us towels which they were still wet. When I brought it to his attention he said that's the way they were in the closets. I was in shock. I am missing hair ties and pain medication because I had knee surgery. I left the medication on the sink and when I returned they were gone. I was told by the manager that a refund was not possible because I ordered the hotel through Expedia! She offered me a free night! I will never set foot in that hotel ever again!! It was absolutely terrible. Gorgeous hotel in the downtown district. When you check in, you have to go through the glass doors into the restaurant area but it is immediately to the right. Check in was easy and the employee was friendly and helpful. Parking is in the garage a block away for $8 with validation from the hotel. You need your room key to operate the elevator and power in the rooms. The room was decorated beautifully, the king bed was comfortable, bathroom was spacious. Loved the sleep kit and nespresso machine in the room. The TV was a smart TV too. There was also a fridge in the room. Hotel does not have rollaway beds but the king was fine for my daughter and I. Had a one-night stay here in May, just a couple of months after their opening. They've done an absolutely spectacular job renovating this century-old bank building and making it fresh while keeping its architecture intact. The lobby is soaring and beautiful. It looks like there are plans to add a bar in the future, but there is no food or drink service as of yet. However, there is a wealth of restaurants within a 5-minute walk. Parking is in a garage a very short walk away and the hotel validates your ticket, so no hassle with paying on the way out. You can park right in front of the door for 15 minutes when you arrive to deal with check in and avoid dragging luggage down the street. The rooms are beautifully done in an urban style, with copper-lined entry doors. The ones on the upper floors have mountain vistas. Bed was comfortable, the mini-fridge is large, the amenities are nice, and the staff is very pleasant. There's some street noise at night but it wasn't a huge deal. I'd definitely return once they've been operating a while and have even more services and amenities available. read more

This hotel is at best a 3 or 3.5 star hotel. No valet and no parking nearby. You have to walk 2 blocks and the parking is all the way on the 4 floor of a parking deck. Paid close to $400 for two nights and they wouldn't even do housekeeping even after I had requested it while checking in. I come back the next day, nothing was done. Called the front desk, the reply was "yeah we see the request but it wasn't entered into the computer so we can't do it". What the heck? If you are looking for a small room,, light musty air, indifferent staff, inconvenient parking, overpriced drinks you hit the jackpot. Not going to recommend this place to my employees and to any of my business partners who invite their clients over to Roanoke. read more

15 minute parking at the front door of the hotel, so you can check in. We parked our car at the Center in the Square garage around the corner. Take your parking ticket to the front desk, and they will validate it. The next day when we left the garage, I inserted the ticket in the machine, and the gate automatically went up, so the fee was charged to my credit card. Hotel was very nice. For the price they charge per night, I was surprised to see that no breakfast was included. Coffee was in the lobby in the morning. This review is for the Vault restaurant and not the hotel as my husband and I did not stay there. We made reservations for a Sunday night dinner ahead of Valentine's day and were super excited to try the restaurant because of positive reviews. When we arrived, the atmosphere and vibes of Vault were nice. It's a hip bar feeling except you can hear your party talk. We were seated at a small circular table which was nice, but there was not a lot of space to hold our orders because each item came on a large plate and we had to be extra careful to not knock anything over. There were special valentine's day menu items, but we just ordered from the regular menu. We ordered the Flirtation drink which was really good because I did not taste the alcohol at all. We ordered the patatas bravas, firefly squid, hamachi crudo, arroz negro, and the cheesecake with yuzu jam and blueberry compote. The patatas bravas was disappointing because it was roasted potatoes with a orange sauce that tastes like red bell peppers. The hamachi crudo was fine. The firefly squid was interesting because I had never had small squid cooked that way and served on a bed of greens. The broth it came in was whatever, but the white radish and horseradish really made the dish pop. The arroz negro was intriguing on paper, but underwhelming in person. It was recently added to the menu according to our server. When it was delivered to our table, our server came by to take a look at the dish because they had never seen it before which was a little strange. The rice was cooked to a paste and there was no flavor other than salt. The calamari in it was either cooked well or oddly mushy. At the bottom of the rice were two overly salted fish pieces. The only good thing on the arroz negro dish were the thin pieces of toasted bread, but that's not made in house. The dessert saved this experience. The cheesecake actually had a thin layer of blueberry cheesecake gelatin on top, but it was delicious. The cheesecake was good on its own, but the blueberry compote and yuzu jam really elevated it. My husband who is not usually a fan of sweets took multiple bites! I ended up leaving dinner hungry. It's more of a place where you can go get drinks and snacks with your partner or with some friends to enjoy the company and atmosphere instead of having a meal there. The Liberty Trust- Hotel and restaurant review: For the most part we enjoyed our stay at the Liberty Trust. We paid for a larger room and stayed in room 704. The first thing we noticed was the amazing copper door to our room. The room was very clean but there was a lot of unused space. The bathroom was HUGE however there wasn't much in there. Also the toilet paper is only 1 ply and rough. I felt like paying for an upgrade shouldn't just mean extra space. We would of liked a small sitting area with table for our morning breakfast or another chair. Speaking of breakfast we got the vegetable eggbites and one of them was still cold inside. The walls were completely bare. We felt the room could have used some prints of how the building used to look before. We did appreciate the Nespresso machine in our room and the nice selection of tea provided. The complimentary tote bag, earplugs, and sleep masks were a thoughtful touch. We also really enjoyed the restaurant/lounge small plates and drinks. For those who don't know- the restaurant serves tapas style (small plates). Tapas can be combined to make a full meal, and can be cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or hot (such as patatas bravas -spicy crispy potatoes). All in all, we enjoyed our visit and would come back again. Next time though we will bring our own toilet paper and probably not upgrade our room. read more

We booked a "standard queen" room for $212 on hotels.com and discovered upon arrival that a standard queen is a "petite queen" at The Liberty Trust. It was on the second floor. POSITIVES * Great location, easy short walk to major downtown attractions * Historic architecture and details * Giant windows, bedroom AND bathroom, lots of natural light * Giant bathroom with quality finishes. Almost bigger than bedroom * Quiet, pleasant neighborhood to walk around early morning * Fun, original bank safe in lobby * Friendly staff, on point * Good vanity lighting in bathroom * Spacious, walk-in shower NEGATIVES * Squishy, un-supportive pillows * Confusing "lobby" experience upon early evening arrival - what transformed into a more conventional hotel lobby by the next morning, at around 6:30 PM in the evening was overrun with noisy drinker-diners having fun. Not a place for hotel guests to sit and relax and get their bearings upon arrival after travels. Front desk was also a bit confusing upon arrival. The part facing the foyer was the size of a restaurant hostess station, and I wasn't immediately sure where to check in. Location was perfect for Amtrak and downtown. The decor of the hotel and bar was like going back in time in an old bank vault. Staff were very friendly. Upon arrival we were given a complimentary appetizer which was not only a nice presentation but very good too. Bar tender Stephanie was very attentive and sweet. The bed was comfortable and rooms were very clean. Only down was you could hear people in the hallway but there was no one out after 11pm so did not impact sleeping. Very disappointed at this property for the price. Our room wasn't as clean as it should have been. Small hairs all in the sink, cup stains on side table and coffee bar,Dirt in corners of bathroom. The "luxurious" linens felt and sounded like sand paper! I don't think they had been washed and it was like they were taken out of a package and placed on the bed. Honestly why put a flat sheet instead of a fitted sheet on a king bed?! It moved around constantly! We wanted to go eat our ice cream in the lobby, but it's a restaurant and all the seats were taken! Seriously? No common area for your guests? Only one chair in our room, so we ate our dessert on the bed. Not the idea of a romantic getaway that we had imagined. If I could give this place a rating of no stars I would, the receptionist was very rude upon entry, we arrived late in the evening and asked for a late checkout in which they charged us for, they also charged us a $50 maintenance fee which was clearly neglect on the hotels part and nothing to do with me or my husband, the blow dryer hook was loose and was on the floor when we got there we don't use any hotel blow dryers ever, this place is not very well taken care of and they will charge YOU for their neglect beware! read more

Bad experience. First, the hotel looks nothing like the photos - very misleading advertising. Second, the room was dingy - stains on the side tables, dirty windows. Third, it was LOUD at night, and we barely slept! Tons of yelling outside at all hours. And the thermostat is VERY bright, so the room never got dark. Fourth, the bed was unsanitary - no top sheet or mattress pad! When we called to ask for at least an additional sheet, they brought up a scratchy blanket and pillowcases. Finally, when we checked out early and explained why, they refused to refund all of the remaining nights (not to mention the terrible night prior) because "the cleaning staff already made up the room for tonight." When I walked in, there was quite the crowd in the bar/ small plate restaurant on the ground level. I thought I had entered a nightclub instead of a hotel. I checked into the hotel. There is no parking. The four adjacent parking lots within two blocks is a pay by photo reading the code off of the sign on each lot. Their systems are down. I finally found the parking spot three blocks away where I have to move by 8 o'clock in the morning or they will tell my car on the street, I check in. I go to the restaurant and there are three tables which have no backs to the chairs 34 Tops so I eat at the bar after I eat at the bar I say put it on my room charge and they said they don't do that so I said no problem and I paid the bill, I go to my room on the sixth floor and my hotel room door is 6 inches away from the elevator door. The headboard and pillow is against the wall or I can hear the elevator going up and down all night long the windows have chicken wire on it like a prison even though I'm on the sixth floor, the bed is hard as a rock as a mattress must be 20 years old. This is a premium hotel over 200 bucks a night in Roanoke, Virginia, and is a 70-year-old man. This is the second worst hotel I've ever stayed at and I've stayed at some doozies. Do not stay here. Do not eat here. I asked to speak to a manager, but there's no manager available the Steakhouse next-door has a $15 cover charge so my only guesses there must be new dancers in there. I hate this place. I wish I could give it zero stars. Stay away people stay away. read more

This beautiful building is disguised as a hotel. The front desk is incompetent to help make changes or even print a check out receipt. While the rooms have a nice look upon entry, you will soon learn that the beds are as uncomfortable as Joe Biden's public speaking. The absolute worst place I have never stayed. Drove 5 hours to stay here for a concert. Tried to pay in cash was told they did not accept cash which was fine. Went across the street to put money on my card. The person at front desk said we were no where near the concert we were going to and to try another hotel closer. He reassured me that my card would not be charged. Husband and I went on to concert without showers after driving 5 hours. Went into concert to get a drink only to find nothing on our card. This hotel charged our night stay on our card!! After concert we went back to hotel to take the room they had charged and were told that a best Western would suit us better and to get the eff out of their hotel. We are currently driving 5 hours back to MD. Do not recommend this hotel at all!! The general manager is extremely unprofessional. He asked us to leave and we did and then he followed us outside to which we asked for the cops to be called. Unique property with large guest rooms and great views of the mountains from our corner room. The lobby was really specials with the original bank vault, columns and marble. Only drawback was the lack of any water, coffee or much else in the lobby. The street noise was also a bit disruptive to sleeping though it was a Friday night downtown in the center of the action. I appreciate the thoughtful restoration and the effort to maintain the copper doors and other unique period touches. Would definitely return but ask for a higher floor. read more
