This certainly is not the worst hotel I've stayed at and there are plenty of reasons why you would want to stay at this Hampton Inn. However, I've been to a lot of other Hampton Inns and this one was definitely a much worse couple of experiences relatively speaking. First off, the good - the location. This hotel is in prime position. It's very walkable relative to campus, close to the hospital, restaurants are walkable, heck it even is close enough to my now favorite Chinese restaurant in town. It doesn't get too loud at night and getting onto the highway isn't too difficult. Additionally, I like their front lobby and breakfast. It is spacious, lots of room to work and have small meetings and the breakfast is solid, with plenty of options. Everything else is where the problems arise. To hotel itself feels a bit older and the furniture/rooms are a bit antiquated. Just little things like the shower tub not having proper water flow and the working desks being really small are what differentiate this hotel with others I've stayed at. My rooms have been a bit more cramped and uncomfortable. Additionally, I didn't find the pillows to be all that comfortable. Oh, and I can't forget to mention that I found bugs of the bed kind my first visit. At least the staff handled it efficiently for me! Lastly, my favorite hotel amenity, the gym, is simply not as built out as other hotel gyms. There are just three machines in there that again, feel really old, and no weight lifting equipment. For me, there are many reasons why I'd say this Hampton Inn is not my top pick, but depending on your situation, the location may just be worth it! read more

I've had a couple versions of hot breakfast and was super disappointed by the complete lack of flavor here at the Champagne Nirvana Hampton Inn. The powdered eggs were sort of like if a person was expected to eat the fluff out of a fiber padded mailing envelope. Really surprising that that would be considered edible. The bacon, even though it was wafer thin, looked beautifully done and I figured a bagel with cream cheese and bacon would be OK. But even the bacon had no flavor, it wasn't even salty at all. The kitchen staff take a break, which I'm sure is well deserved. Don't get me wrong, right in the guest dining room, and unfortunately seem to be limited to the product of their labor. Nice friendly people, though. The desk clerk was very friendly and accommodating, no matter what time I came by or had to call. The room is clean and quiet. The fridge was not very cold, which is kind of the way they always are with those mini fridges, even though the temperature is set to the coldest setting. The surrounding area seemed safe and the hotel appears to be very popular with elderly people in particular. Being an elderly person, I must say that The combination of the sheets and the height of the bed seat on the mattress can be a death trap. It was impossible to sit on the side of the bed without sliding down towards the floor. This comes from the mattress being without proper support on the sides. The first time I turned on my side to roll out of bed I just about cracked my head open on the side table when I started sliding!!! Once I put a terry cloth towel down on the part of the mattress where you sit on the edge there was enough grip and I could stay up there so long as I could push my feet back to hold me onto the bed. If I would have listened to the Reviews I would have not stayed at this location but the convenience to the College made it easy. First walked in during noon on a Friday the Lobby smelled amazing housekeeping cleaning and everything was so clean. My room was not ready until 3pm but we stored luggage and went out to lunch. There is a gym and pool on premises they also have a 24 hour coffee and tea station which is very convenient. Breakfast is included with your stay from 6am to 11am. Breakfast entails waffle station, fresh oatmeal with toppings, bagels, cereal station, English muffins, boiled eggs. The specials differ daily one day good be grits biscuits and mini omelette or red potatoes sausage and bacon. So impressed with the breakfast they also provide apple juice and orange . The room was very clean housekeeping are very detailed in their work at this location. Highly impressed . read more

stayed here for 2 nights for an event at the University of Illinois. super close to campus and about a 10-15 min walk to the Main Quad. overall, the breakfast was decent (nothing extraordinary) but it did change slightly in the 2 days I stayed there (new waffle flavors, omelettes vs scrambled eggs). nice that they have 24/7 access to coffee and hot water for tea or hot chocolate in the lobby! read more

We stayed here one night recently. We were on the second floor and had several ants in our room. The people below us had an infestation! Gross! Additionally, our lamp next to the bed had the bulb butn out. I asked if this could be replaced and the front desk person said it would not be fixed until after we'd check out because the maintenance guy has to do it. Seems ridiculous for a lightbulb. The breakfast was sooo bad. Not even close to how it was 5 years ago. We've decided to skip this Hampton and stay elsewhere and get our own breakfast. Sooo disappointing! read more

Directly across the street from the U of I, this hotel is perfectly located for parents dropping off their freshmen students in the next few weeks. As for me, switching it up a bit with Hilton properties in the area. The property is very clean, standard updates, and the best beds in the industry, which is another reason why Hilton properties are number one for me. No suites at this locations, upgrades will be a king room with a pull out couch, and standard amenities include a desk, television with HDMI connections, no USB, so if you travel with your own television choices like me (Amazon Firestick), it requires a wall plug-in. You will hear doors opening and closing all night, in the hallway, but the floors are solid, so don't sweat being on a lower level... read more

I thought it was a bit pricey considering you can get practically the same room and accommodations for $20 less at the Quality Inn. The channel selections were very limited. No fridge or microwave!!! Even considering CoVid i'd say this hotel under delivers. 1 bar of soap in room - Dirty elevator. Masks not being used in evening by staff and allowing maskless patrons to have extended conversations w staff in lobby. Pool out if service. No Gold member perks. No breakfast if ANY kind. Hey the rate was low for these COVID dayd and its a great location for UIUC VISITS but it seems they are shooting for the minimum in this hotel room - constrained town. read more

I've stayed at a lot of Hamptons, this was in the top tier as far as service and cleanliness. My room especially was quiet and clean. The Internet was fast enough and we had a fairly basic cable selection, but what made this franchise location stand out was the people and the breakfast. There was plenty of selection to eat, and there were even extra toppings for my son's waffle. Everyone of the staff was helpful and polite. The only draw back here is that this is a bit far (nearly 3 miles) from the expressway, though it is practically on Illinois' campus. Stay here if you have business on campus or want a clean and affordable room with great breakfast. read more

Better than some, not as nice as others. Our room was clean and the staff was very friendly. It's freezing out so the halls and lobby area were quite cold. The heater/fan in our room had a clicking noise to it. Had to go down and request more pillows; wish they'd look ahead at the amount of people on the reservation and put them in the room ahead of time. The fridge didn't have a freezer or temperature control and felt warm which was a bummer as we needed to use it. The pool was warm and shallow at the deep end (4ft) and the whirlpool is a little on the small side. No bathroom or shower in the pool area; you have to leave the key-entry pool room and go down the hall to find a bathroom. Fitness center includes an elliptical, treadmill, bike and med balls. I abhor hotel breakfasts but it makes my day when there is something I'll actually eat and today's offering included French toast and Canadian bacon. Hilton people - you need a new coffee vendor!!!! This is a nice Hampton Inn. It's quiet, cleanly and the staff is nice. The TV selection was nice and broad. There was a pretty bad stain on one of the towels and one of my pillow cases had what looked like a small blood stain on it. I have stayed in better Hampton Inns & I have stayed in worse. read more

Very nice newer Hampton Inn. We were given an upgrade to a suite at check in... the Hilton Honors perk paying off there...and the extra room was very welcome. The rooms are quiet and spacious, and I like the layout of these new properties. The closet was the biggest I have ever seen in a hotel room, and the bathroom is 2 rooms, at least in the suites. The fitness center is small and barely suffices with only a treadmill, elliptical and one bike, but I managed to get a work out in both days. Breakfast is on the house at Hampton, but I usually go elsewhere, so can't comment on it. Overall a very nice, clean property, with above average service, and a good location near the U of I. read more

This unit should be sold to comfort inn, maybe even red roof inn! Not up to Hilton standards at all. If you're a college kid, or need a cheap place to stay with small rooms, go for it. The fitness room and pool are dirty, small and a tad gross too. Badly in need of an update, this whole unit is simply not worthy of the Hilton name, or price. When you stay at a Hampton Inn, you generally know what to expect --a clean, quiet room with a comfortable bed. Unfortunately, I did not find anything quiet or relaxing at this party-hardy hotel. It was Friday night and the rooms on both sides of me were rocking -- loud and boisterous. They partied till 3am. I asked them to be quiet twice - to no effect. The young hotel night staff was oblivious and not responsive. Additionally, at check in I asked for dinner recommendations and got pizza and burger joints - not what I as after, but I recognize Urbana is a college town and the young women behind the counter were probably students. Despite its convenient location, I would not stay at this particular Hampton Inn again. read more

This place is tops. We've had two kids go through college at UICC over a span of seven years, so know the area accommodations well. The staff change periodically, but the Champaign Hampton Inn has been a model for excellent, friendly, responsive service. The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, the free breakfasts are very good (and convenient), and the location could hardly be better. The price is reasonable; you can sometimes pay less, but the quality is unmatched. Our experience here has led us when travelling elsewhere to always look first for Hampton Inns; they've all been good, but this has been the best. read more

This hotel was wonderful! We were in town for my son's gymnastic meet. The room was very nice. The sink was inside of the bathroom - yeeeeeees! The breakfast buffet was wonderful! My son and I fell in love with the eggs and french toast sticks. We did not hear any loud noise during our overnight stay. There was a Perkins Restaurant on the same parking lot. It was very convenient and was our place of choice for dinner that Friiday night. read more

We not from around here at all, hence us staying at a hotel I guess, and this hotel is fine, but without having car it isn't really near anything but the university. We heard the breakfast spot in the parking lot was awful, so good thing this place at least gives you a pretty big hot breakfast in the morning complete with biscuits and gravy and eggs and sausage! That was definitely a perk and the 24 hour coffee and hot chocolate--we made ourselves a little fake mocha with the coffee and hot chocolate packet to take on our long walk from here over to downtown Urbana. That is the nice thing about this hotel I guess is that it is pretty much smack dab in between Urbana and Champaign, but I really wish this area had hotels placed closer to either downtown to make it a little more walking friendly. But the rooms were decently sized, the beds were comfy, our room also had a sofa in it too which was nice to have, but the heaters are a little loud and you can hear cars outside depending on what side of the building you are on (I stayed here two separate times), but all in all, for the price it is a pretty good hotel just nothing amazing. read more

Good location for hospitals or UofI. It needs a refresh, there is a lot of use, but it is worn out. Breakfast seating is horribly uncomfortable, and not well maintained in between diners. Some desk staff during daytime hours did not wear masks. The breakfast is adequate, nothing special, The desk staff is very helpful (afternoon and evenings) The daytime desk staff are generally unpleasant. We arrived 3 days after a heavy snow and the parking lot was dangerous to walk on even just in front of the lobby door which was under a canopy. We suggested something to the day staff (not their responsibility) did the same to the afternoon staff and she apparently got the manager's attention so something got done. I cannot believe the manager walked across that lot and had nothing done (I saw that firsthand for 2 days). Wifi was OK and few blips. Hallways were generally quiet, but some doors need adjustment because they bank shut. We did not hear guests above or next to us so that is a plus. The heating was generally on or not on even though adjustable. Ample hot water. If I have to be there again, I think I will try something by the interstates. read more

The ladies at the front desk were so very helpful and accommodating to me and my sisters! Our father was down the street at Carle during his illness and surgery. They let us check in early and they were very happy to let us extend our check out! I feel these ladies went above and beyond on helping us and making our stay easy. My husband and I recently stayed at the Hampton inn in Urbana, IL. For a little weekend getaway for our anniversary. We arrived around 4 pm, an hour after the check in time and the room was not ready. We had reserved a King Suite. They had to put us in their other King suite that was designated for someone else that had not arrived yet. The room is big, it's all one big room, kind of split in half by a large Desk. There is one TV that swivels between the bed area and the living area. The bed is very large but only came with three small pillows. I called the desk and requested more pillows, which they brought up quickly. The extra pillows made all the difference. The TV was very disappointing. It was basic cable, no option to order movies on the T.V. and no DVD player to even go out and rent some. We had to suffer basic cable for 48 hours. The air conditioner makes a loud sound when it kicks on that lasts at least a few minutes each time. The breakfast in the mornings is pretty awesome. I was disappointed to see no bacon, but they seem to have everything else covered. The pool area is quiet and clean. I have no complains about the pool. The hot tub has some tile that needs to be deep cleaned or replaced. For the most part i was pleased, could have been better but it wasn't bad. read more

I stayed at this hotel this weekend and would not recommend it. The staff was friendly and attentive. The breakfast was nice and there were a reasonable amount of amenities available. However, the room was humid to the point that everything felt slightly moist and smelled of mildew. Several of our friends staying there this weekend stated the same complaint. read more

Stayed here a couple nights ago and I stayed on the top floor, at about midnight it started raining and water was coming through the ceiling into my room!! I told the front desk and the manager says "oh I'm sorry, would you like a complimentary bag of chips". What the heck?? Also, housekeeping stole my Beats Headphones because I know I left them in the room by accident and I called the hotel and they said they don't have them. Never coming here again!! read more

About as good of a Hampton Inn as I've stayed in anywhere... They've got all the amenities I've come to expect from HI including a decent complimentary breakfast, round the clock coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, an adequate sized clean room with updated TV, and comfortable mattress and pillows, terrific and friendly customer service at the front desk, free wifi, a small fitness room, and a pool... Walking distance to the college campus, next door to Presence Covenant Hospital... So it's a pretty good location for all other things if you're driving... The price varies due to room availability. It's your typical HI with basically everything a you're going to need traveling. I've stayed here before and I'll stay here again! read more

I stayed at the Hampton Inn on my recent visit to UIUC. I picked the place because of its convenient location, just a few steps from campus. Overall, I was pretty happy with the place: the rooms as nothing fancy, but they're clean enough, and a big plus: the whole hotel has free wireless internet (I hate having to pay $10 a day to go online as you do at most nicer hotels). Continental breakfast is also included, and they have a fitness room/pool (which I didn't get a chance to try). My two only complaints: the water pressure was really low in the shower. Also, it could be a little cheaper: I paid $139 a night for a standard room... a little more than I would have liked considering the quality of the rooms (although as I understand, if you are a UIUC employee, the rate is $89 a night). Nothing to write home about, but not a terrible place either. read more

I would give -1 if I could. The morning of checkout: no power, no hot water, no breakfast, no communication from the front desk, no compensation, nothing at all on 3/10/19. I received a response from the hotel (after I filled out their survey) giving an apology, but here is the clincher. She used the excuse that the entire city was without power - wrong! Perkins restaurant, right next door, as well all of the other businesses on University Avenue up to I-74 had power. Another Hilton rep then sent me a response backing the manager up. I expect honesty and customer service from a Hilton hotel and this one doesn't measure up, especially for $150 plus tax/night. When the boy and I stayed here on a recent visit to Urbana, I'll admit that I didn't have high expectations. It's a Hampton Inn on top of campus--why would I? We got in very late, and the man at the front desk was incredibly pleasant. He wasn't just polite...he was the kind of polite that you only seem to see in movies about people visiting hotels. We went up to our spacious and not-tackily-decorated room, and found that the shower curtain was actually splayed out in pretty fashion. That much is hard to explain without showing you, but it was clear that either a) someone loves their job, or b) they're trying to show that they care about appearances at the Hampton Inn. The beds were comfortable, the shower worked fine (although it is true that the pressure could be a bit higher), there were lots of free "extras" in the room, and there wasn't too much noise (we were on the top floor...so it could be different on lower floors). Also, they had free wifi throughout the hotel, as well as a free computer in the lobby to use if you don't have a laptop. The next morning, I was delighted to find a large continental breakfast served until 10 a.m. We're not just talking boxes of cereal or donuts and coffee...we're also talkin' hot breakfast with waffles, meat, fruit, juices, etc. Awesome. Frankly, I'm surprised to see less-than-stellar reviews. I had a wonderful stay. read more

Just a quick note to say that my last room had been updated to what I've seen in several recent Hamptons - darker wood, built in desk, and smaller closet towards the "outside wall" of the room (as opposed to near the bathroom). I haven't even stayed at this location yet but I needed assistance for a future visit and as a Hilton Rewards Member we were completely disregarded. We needed to cancel a reservation due to a family emergency. We travel often and use Hampton Inns for business travel and have never ever cancelled. The manager said no so I called corporate, corporate said it was up to the local facility but they tried to call and ask and still the manager said no. Note taken. Future business trips need to be looked at for a company that values loyal customers. read more
