Much better than your average college town hotel experience, it's difficult to really recommend elsewhere to stay if you're visiting Champaign. The prices are quite reasonable for being in the center of downtown, walkable to pretty much anything you want to get to and the convenience of a fairly large parking garage makes it easy to manage things for an event or wedding. The rooms are quite a surprise, fairly spacious with furniture to relax on. The bedding is a little firm for me but I do like the quality of the linens that were put on the bed. I was also very happy with getting plenty of shampoo, conditoner, body wash, towels, toilet paper, and anything else I needed. The breakfast dining area is nice and comfortable and a bit more elegant than I've seen at a lot of other hotels. The amount of selection could be better but the quality of the items presented was pretty good and definitely sufficient to meet my needs (champaign is a great dining town, you should be trying everything in the area!). I recently stayed here again - for another wedding! Very popular place for people to stay for weddings as there were two happening the same weekend. The rooms are still nice. The ladies at the front desk were very nice. And this time I got to experience their meeting/conference space as the tornado warning went off the first night we were there. They have free breakfast but we didn't make it to it, except to grab some coffee. One thing this hotel could use is a water fountain with a filter. They are pretty common these days so don't think it would be a hard thing to put in. We had to keep buying water bottles from the front desk which felt wasteful. This hotel is downtown with plenty of things to walk to. The restaurant next door that does the room service for the hotel is great. read more

I have stayed at many Hyatt Place hotels across the United States and I've typically been impressed with the offering. However, my last stay here certainly left a lot to be desired. This Hyatt Place's best attribute is their location. It is right in the middle of Champaign and is located in a walkable area. The place is relatively clean and everything inside is kept up to date. On my last stay, everything seemed to be not working, which ultimately made my stay more unpleasant. The TV in room was unable to connect to the cable and the shower drain was clogged. Not only that, but things outside of my room seemed to be out of order as well. The cooler in the front lobby wasn't working so all of the drinks weren't chilled upon purchase, and no cookies! A tragedy! Also, the heat in the gym didn't seem to be functioning, which on a night where the temperature was in the negatives, made working out a not-so fun experience. I think I would chalk all of this up to a bad day in the office. I do see myself coming back because I am in town on business quite a bit. However, as someone who tends to fancy other hotel brands, this Hyatt Place will certainly need to have a better day! read more

The general manager never smiled or greeted us after multiple opportunities and was heard complaining that she "couldn't handle her day anymore, so she's gonna walk around with no shoes (whatever that means)." There was a bad culture there amongst all front desk workers never smiling or acknowledging to anyone even the first day of arrival. It's not like they were busy either. Breakfast was mediocre at best with a strange chaotic check in with just a hotel room # from a non smiling worker. The day they decided to put together something for Mother's Day weekend for students at Illinois, all personalities flipped. This place needs to learn about hospitality, which I thought was the main draw any customer wants. We will never stay here on business again and will tell everyone we know who decides to go here. I believe this is our third time staying at this hotel (or fourth?) - and previously we have enjoyed our stays and did not have any issues. This time, however, the little things added up to make us think about looking around for another location in the future. To start, as a Hyatt member (free), when booking you can now opt for early check-in at noon for an added cost. We arrived around 12:35-ish, but our room was not quite ready. I was told it would take "about five minutes" to clean. I said ok, I'll go and eat some lunch across the street @ Big Grove Tavern (tasty!) and the front desk employee took my added fee off as well as daily parking fee was waived for my inconvenience. Room was ready around 1:15. We booked a high floor room to hopefully have it a bit quieter (maybe?) Once inside our room, one of the bathroom lights was not working, one of the towel racks literally fell out of the wall and onto the floor, there was no safe to lock up valuables, an ice bucket but no tongs, only one bar of soap... the bathroom design is not fantastic for people who prefer any sort of privacy, as the door doesn't completely close, even when locked, and the fan is not very loud. You can also hear every footstep in the hallway. I will say that the bed/pillows were comfortable, and you are able to enjoy a nice breakfast downstairs with a variety of choices to suit all tastes, but all of these small annoyances surprised us, as we really loved staying here in the past. read more

This was a very nice hotel overall. We were in town for a wedding and stayed here for 2 nights. They have parking in an attached garage and it was very easy to go in and out as we please. The room was spacious for a weekend trip and they bed was much more comfortable than some other chain hotels. The location is great as well as you're walking distance to lots of restaurants. Service was good as well and we'd definitely recommend this place if you're staying in the area. read more

My husband and I came to Champaign for a wedding and stayed at the Hyatt Place Champaign/Urbana. We found this to be a great place to stay. We found it conveniently located in the heart of downtown Champaign, just steps away from many great bars and restaurants. It was just ten minutes away from the wedding venue we were going to. The check-in was super fast and easy. I had my room keys two minutes after waking into the lobby, although no one told us about the goodie bag for the wedding that we were staying there for. I had to figure that out myself. We found our hotel room to be clean and tidy. The complimentary breakfast was unimpressive and plain. I always look forward to staying at a hotel for a few reasons. One reason is because of a pool. I had a long week and wanted to relax in the pool before heading out for the night. I made my way down to the pool and unfortunately even though the pool was open. It shouldn't have been. I'm not a stranger to a pool and I can say that this pool was needing a cleaning. The yellow bacteria on the sides and bottom of the pool was inexcusable. Not sure why it was even allowed to be open. The pool was disgustingly dirty. Hyatt Place, I can only blame you. read more

I booked a room at this hotel well in advance. The day I was going to check-in I called because my flight was delayed. The lady I spoke with informed me that checking in late would not be an issue and that she would leave a note on my account. When I arrived at the hotel, I was informed that my room had been cancelled and that my only choice was to book another room. When asked why was I never informed of this cancellation and what happened to the note on my account - the employee had no answers. My only option was to book another room. Due to the later hour, I ended up booking another room. That evening the smoke alarm went off while I was taking a shower. Hours later in the middle of the night an employee came to check. He insisted that he needed to come in the room even though the smoke alarm stopped hours prior. This was unprofessional and make my stay very uncomfortable. All around this was a bad experience. We stopped over here on the way from home (St. Louis metro area) to former home (Michigan). I used travel rewards to book (we're not going to use them for Europe 2020, obviously). Our travel rewards company seems to use Expedia, no Hyatt points, but kinda "free," so that's good. For a somewhat urban context, suburban John H. found entry to the garage and hotel very easy. First floor, you pull up to the curb in the little circular entry area, then walk through the entry to check in. Then, with code, drive through the gate and up to parking, elevator to hotel at levels 2-4. As was common on our summer travels, though masks were required inside, some hotel guests chose NOT to wear them on the elevator up and down. We wore ours. On the subject of food, there were plenty of restaurants nearby in a fun area of downtown Champaign, many with sidewalk dining! Breakfast? Well, nothing much better than Jimmy Dean's breakfast sandwiches, wrapped and warmed in the breakfast area, the usual wonderful Hyatt Place breakfast downgraded due to Covid-19. Still, as we were to discover later, this Hyatt Place was doing it better than some. We happened to be there the evening of July 4 -- lots of fireworks viewable from our window, probably many of them unauthorized, followed by emergency vehicles responding to some misfires. I would not have wanted to be out in all that, but it provided an interesting dusk view. Hyatt Place rooms and beds are very comfortable, and we really enjoyed our evening here. I am a World of Hyatt member and use Hyatt whenever possible. However, I am stunned and disgusted by the price of a two night stay in Champaign, IL this next upcoming weekend (Oct 18-20, 2024). For a standard room for two adults, the local Hyatt wants to charge $651 per night to sleep (this with the pool being unavailable). Other nights outside the weekend are in the $150 per night range. This is exactly the type of price gouging that Kamala Harris should be going after. It is a crime to do this to members. read more

I stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights. From check-in to check out, I had a great experience. The front desk staff was super nice and always friendly. The room service/cleaning staff was accommodating and friendly as well. The room was spacey, clean and comfortable. I stayed in a king size bed room. Enough space for 2...3 if you have one sleep on the couch. The water pressure was perfect for the shower. They also provide you with free breakfast every day and the selection is great. The gentleman that was there every morning looking over the breakfast station and guests was super attentive and welcoming. It's a pet friendly hotel so that's a plus for those traveling with their fur fams. It's walking distance to handful of restaurants and bars so the location is convenient as well. And not a far drive from campus if you're stopping by for school related things. read more

I had booked through The Knot for my friend's wedding 2 months in advance. I had flown in the night before and my flight was delayed, so I had called the Hyatt to notify them that I would clearly be checking in later than the approximate check-in time, and whoever at the front desk stated that this would be fine. Unfortunately, when I finally arrived to check in, a front desk agent named Ben stated he had canceled my reservation without even notifying me by email and/or phone call. They would not even give any consideration over my situation and had made me rebook an entirely new reservation and said he would leave a note for me to call first thing in the morning to get my initial booking refunded. Otherwise, front desk services absolutely was no help and had the worst hospitality I had ever experienced. Then, my actual stay was complete shit. The room smelled weird, the fire alarm went off when I took a shower because there was no air ventilation, and then a fire Marshall or whoever was supposed to come in and check it didn't even come until FIVE HOURS after it had gone off. I would never, ever recommend this place to anyone. Poor hospitality, terrible old rooms, and poor service. read more

Some notable perks the Hyatt offers that you don't always come across at other hotels: - 24 hour room service! - an indoor parking garage with direct elevator access to your room (and sensored room key card required to use elevator, to boot. Security shouldn't be underrated!) - a couch in the "living room" area I actually want to sit on. This may have to do with how new (less than a year) the hotel is. - layout of the room is like a mini apartment! The door area has tiling that makes it like a foyer, there's a distinctive living area with its own light, and within the dresser set up is your closet, ironing board, and mini fridge. - complimentary breakfast served in a trendy kitchen area with square bowls and plates available for you and stored on shelves within the "kitchen", and calorie count is included on the name tags for all offerings! ... And the piece de resistance? A slow close toilet! Wake up call didn't work on my phone, which sucked. It also stinks a little that the 24 hour food off the menu has to be picked up at the front desk (beware: packaging set up is flimsy and no frills). The only other thing I wished for that wasn't present was lotion included in the bathroom toiletries. BUT wait for it... on my last night at the Hyatt, I saw a sign that said you could ask for free lotion at the front desk. So boom! Clean, modern hotel. Friendly staff. read more

This is in a great location right in the center of shopping, eating and bars in downtown Champaign. If you're here for Illini athletics it's not a bad choice if you can't get the iHotel. The hotel is clean, common areas are nicely updated and the staff is friendly. Breakfast is included, starting Nov.1 you need to be a World Of Hyatt member to get free breakfast but joining us free. There is a parking garage, convenient on site and the only drawback I see is that the turn in and final turn leaving the garage are very tight. Nice, clean, good hotel for a game read more

This Hyatt hotel has great staff. They were very kind and helpful. If you have ocd and notice every little thing, then you may want to bring disinfectant wipes or spray. From odd spots on the tv controller to counter tops. The sheets seemed to be very clean, which is a great bonus. Unfortunately, the shower water was on the cooler side. Pros: good location to U of I, beautiful rooms, solid security, satisfying food service So why only 3 stars? If we had known the room we were given was directly across the street from the bars and loud street noises we would have asked for a quieter room not located on the Neil Street side. Adding to the noise was hearing other patrons walking and talking in the halls as though the door was open. Poorly designed for noise volume. Maybe that is why earplugs are on the nightstand next to the bed? I am a light sleeper so I take responsibility for forgetting to ask for a quiet room when checking in. But I was expecting something other than the scripted apology received from the front desk when mentioning the noise levels. Wouldn't it be great when reserving a room if there was more transparency about which rooms are not as "nice" and having a percentage taken off for the inconvenience? This is a great find for a city this size and its relatively new which is always a plus. The attached parking garage that leads directly to your room floor is very handy and secured with key cards and worth $9 a day without a doubt. Cannot beat my rate on a slow week...$115 for a double queen room and a very modern bathroom with very nice fixtures...close to luxury hotel room quality. Are you going to have a Zen moment here...probably not given that its a limited service hotel...but what more can you expect at this rate. What you get is a comfortable convienent effecient place in a nice neighborhood with lots of dining choices just around the corner. Had to laugh when reading a few reviews..."the maid barely knocked then barged in and almost saw me naked" ... too funny...ever heard of locking your door like when you are at home to keep strangers out? Or "the hotel employee guy in the breakfast area nearly talked my leg off and I couldnt get rid of him"...how about just telling him you are busy trying to concentrate on figuring out where you are going to fill your pie hole next...that ought to work. How about taking some personal responsibility for your life rather than blaming everyone else for your issues...really. This is a great place and CU is lucky to have it...plain and simple. Customer service over the phone not friendly. I booked 6 rooms and had to request the receipt 3 times with 3 different calls. One of the times, 3 of my room reservations was "lost" and I had to rebook. One of the times, I was laughed at when I expressed my unhappiness. Called to add names to rooms and when my guests arrived to check in, no names were on the rooms. Used my card to reserve the room only and 3 of the rooms were charged to my card even though I didn't fill out a credit card authorization. read more

I stayed at this hotel for two nights in between business trips. I was meeting with a few hospitals and was taking a prep course in the area. The hotel is great. The price is on the higher end, but I get to expense the cost. Thus I choose to stay here. Its in the heart of Champaign in downtown. Great staff too - I called down to ask for a few washcloths since I had given housekeeping the day off, and apparently I called after housekeeping had left, but someone from the front desk ran them up within 5 minutes. $9/day parking in attached garage. So the place is still noisy in the evenings, but I have returned there and had a better experience. I probably would not have returned, based on my last experience, but the other hotels in C-U were either fully committed or just awful. The air conditioning was working better and I didn't have as much struggle putting down the shades to black out the light noise from the neighbor businesses. The hotel supplies earplugs at the bedside now -- evidently acknowledging the noise problem -- which helped somewhat. The bed was comfortable and the couch in our suite opened up to a queen size bed for the kids that was comfortable as well. Free internet, which worked well. Breakfast was complimentary and included a decent egg sandwich and fresh fruit and yogurt. The coffee offerings are free brewed or paid Starbucks, so you don't have to go far if you like that. If you don't mind paying a bit, there is better breakfast at the nearby diner across the street on the corner and better artisan coffee at the small café across the street too (sorry, can't recall the name right now, but you can't miss it). In sum, I guess I am ready to forgive the hotel for the rotten first experience. We will see if they remain consistent and/or improve, for which there is still room to do so. read more

Really nice hotel with friendly staff! The parking is affordable and easy. The location is great with several restaurants and bars very close by. Punch, attached to the hotel, has outstanding service and craft cocktails. Highly recommend! The room was large, had nice ambient lighting, a nice bathroom and good beds. The fridge in the room was a plus. The only issues were the shower was very loud and the elevators are a little show. Definitely stay here if your in the area. read more

I really really like this hotel. Staff are extremely friendly. Hotel is very clean and well kept. I do realize that it is a very new hotel. But I have seen poorly run hotels go to $--t after a few months of opening. Location is great. Lots of really good places to eat and drink. 24/7 snacks drinks and deserts available in the lobby. They also have their own little bar! The free breakfast is the best I've ever had... seriously. And the gentleman running the breakfast service is wonderful and very attentive. Parking is only around eight dollars a night. And the same elevator takes you from garage to your hotel floor, very convenient. Watch out for the tile in the bathroom when stepping out of the shower. It is very slick under your feet. Really easy to bust your bum. Save yourself and step onto a towel! read more

This hotel just opened up in June of 2014, so everything is still brand new, and there's no chance of mystery stains on the carpet. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean, quiet, and comfortable. The rooms were actually larger than what I think of as standard, but perhaps since they had such a small site to build on, they were limited with space. The free continental breakfast was probably the most impressive part; there was fresh grapefruit, and open-faced breakfast sandwiches that were worthy of a café. The only downfall of this place was the parking structure; while convenient, the corners are very tight, so go slowly! Otherwise, I'd recommend this place to anyone, especially if you're looking for some great local dining; there are multiple great options within close walking distance. read more
