I really should have looked at reviews before booking this place. I booked it because I am a Marriott member and had a free room to use so thought I would use it while in town for a wedding. The people who helped us at the front desk were so very nice and that's why it's 2 star instead of 1 star. You could also tell they really try hard to make the lobby nicer with decorations. But the rooms are just bad. This hotel seriously needs a remodel. The elevator was clearly old and the the hallways were dark and creepy. So was the room. A drawer in a dresser in my room kept opening up just on its own - adding to the creepiness. Also, we didn't have a car and there is nothing walkable near this hotel so we had to Uber just to go get dinner. The coffee at the free breakfast was good. We stayed one night and checked out to go back to the hotel we had been at for the wedding which was only $30 more a night and where we could walk to things. read more

Make sure you take pictures of the room before you leave so the hotel doesn't try and sneak any extra fees on your bill. Our night here was the worst experience I have EVER had at a Marriott property. The hotel was extremely dated, and the room smelled musty and was unclean. There was an air freshener in the AC unit and mold in the shower. The room fell far below the standards we would expect from a Marriott property (or a Motel 6). We didn't speak up about it because we didn't want to cause a problem and were only staying one night. Turns out we were making a $190 mistake without knowing it. Shortly after we checked out, we realized the hotel quietly snuck a $190 cleaning fee onto our bill without telling us. When I called about it, the front desk associate claimed our dog "peed on both beds." We explained that wasn't possible, as the dog was never left unattended in the room and was never let on the beds, but that didn't matter -- they were going to squeeze the extra money out of us and there was nothing we could do to stop it. The worst part: we realized we had slept on the same urine-stained mattress they made us pay to clean. Choose a different hotel, and if all else fails, just sleep in your car. Just don't come here. read more

There's good and bad at this hotel. It's in a very convenient location, but since they share a parking lot with the courtyard, parking is very limited. The people who work the desk are helpful and well trained. This hotel is absolutely showing its age. When you find online refuse sites that listed with the same approval as a Wyndham hotel, or a red roof inn... It's definitely showing it's age. I just checked in and they have no running water. They informed me of that at the desk and told me that it should be on by 8 PM. They cannot help that situation. It is what it is. No water means no drinking water, no toilets, no showers and, if it's not on in the morning, will mean no breakfast. I'm not worried about that. My concern is that they replaced the roof. A guy just came in with two nails. I walked out into the lot and found four more nails. They should have that cleaned up. I threw what I found into the dumpster. read more

Marriott Corporate - this location needs a budget for a renovation. It is rusty and moldy, the paint is badly peeling, and the shower didn't drain. The staff is helpful - not their fault at all. The location is fine, but it is way overdue a reno. Bonvoy customers - this location is not at the level you expect when you book Marriotts. I'd pick a different location until this one gets remodeled. read more

The most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. Filthy. Mold everywhere. The pictures with the black "speckled" look is actually the layer of dust on every surface. Exceptional customer service!!! I walked into my room and was greeted by a handwritten note, personalized chocolate, slippers, a sleep mask, and snacks!!! The staff was nice, and the room is large and comfy! I sincerely appreciate the welcome I've received! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the room didn't have a microwave.... other than that, I'm very satisfied, and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area. read more

This hotel is in desperate need of renovations as it's very outdated looking. The elevator is so small that it has a two person limit, not to mention it's absolutely filthy. The cable TV service is always losing signal. Someone's smelly food was left in the refrigerator in my room, apparently housekeeping overlooked it. The breakfast they serve is far less than desirable. The curtains are ripped and absolutely filthy. I find it hilarious that you never know what kind of hotel you'll get with the Marriott. Stayed in a beautiful Marriott in San Diego last week that was mountains above this place. There's so many better options in the area. read more

Oh my stay at the Fairfield in... What we did was we got it for free by using our points. But we had to pay for parking, this is not a big deal though. But the room was dirty with an odd smell it smelled musty. There was one elevator that had cracks in the ceiling and also had an odd musty smell. All over the hotel things were old looking and just not good looking. The beds were decent but there was mold in the bathroom. There was also a pool but it was ok. Fantastic hotel and staff. Received a friendly greeting upon arrival. The hotel has an inviting warm atmosphere with a fireplace in the lobby. There is a pool and an exercise room available for guest use. My room was neat and clean and housekeeping was very attentive to my needs. The hotel is conveniently located near shopping and restaurants. The breakfast each morning was awesome. Hot coffee, scrambled eggs, cheese omelettes, fresh waffles you make yourself (I really enjoyed the pumpkin spice waffles they are featuring for fall), biscuits and gravy, bagels, Danish, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, fruit.....the list goes on. But you get the idea, there is something for everyone. Located down the road from the interstate this hotel provides a cozy place to stay with easy access to get back on the road. read more

The Fairfield Inn and Suites is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to stay when I travel. This particular hotel in Champaign, IL had the same great quality I'm used to, but had without a doubt, the friendliest staff of all. EVERY person greeted us with a good morning or hello and it always felt sincere. The hotel and the room was clean and colorful. The bed was super comfortable and the pillows were nice and fluffy! The shower pressure was so amazing that we fought over who would shower first each day. The room was equipped with enough towels for two, for two days so we didn't even need housekeeping. Well, one towel was used to cover the bottom of the door as the gap was bigger than I would have liked. There was a fridge in the room which I appreciated so that I could store drinks. And finally, the air unit in the room wasn't loud when we ran it at night. The hotel was equipped with an indoor pool and I didn't see the fitness center so I'm guessing it wasn't on the first floor. Breakfast was delicious and free! This was the first hotel I've stayed at that had dried apples for the oatmeal-classy! The tables were always clean and there was always someone there cleaning as people finished up. The location is near other hotels and within 7 minutes of the mall, plenty of restaurants and Walmart, movies and Meijers. I will definitely stay here again when I'm back in Champaign. read more

When I think of this hotel the one word that comes to my mind is skanky. First, you walk up to the door, hands full of bags and suitcases, but wait.... there is no automatic door. You finagle your way somehow opening the door and step in. There's just this skanky smell... smells kind of old, musty. The thing is, I think I remember when this Fairfield Inn was built and I don't think it is that old. Customer service is fine and I make it through. I think really... it can't be that bad can it? The elevator opens and it looks like a 1970's inn. The carpet is all ragged and needs replaced. I keep thinking really... it can't be that bad. I get to my room and open the door. Dangit, my room has that skanky smell too! The furniture is all old school press wood and there is no closet. Overall, not what I would hope for a Marriott brand hotel. While this Fairfield Inn isn't the worst place I've stayed, it's certainly not the best and is below the average. I'd choose somewhere else in town since you're not getting what you're paying for. $90 for a skanky hotel room? Not cool. read more

It is just nice to be out of the car. Friendly front desk staff. Small, but adequate pool (we used this and it made us very happy to exercise after driving upteen hours from MI). Excellent water pressure in showers, poor water pressure is annoying, enough said. Breakfast was a-okay, nothing earthshattering, but adequate to be sure. I love me some yogurt and oatmeal, though there were eggs and sausage, and a waffle maker, and assorted cereals too. read more

I stayed here for the first and only time this past January. The hotel was clean, the staff was friendly, the bed was comfortable, and the halls were quiet. I was in a ground-floor room, so the ceilings were surprisingly high, which was a nice surprise. The decor was consistent with other Fairfield Inn & Suites hotels I've visited over the past few years. So why didn't I go back, despite weekly travels to Chambana for the first half of this year? Mainly, it's because other hotels at this price point have better features. For example: -No mini-fridge in the non-suite rooms. To be fair, I should have checked to see that the room had a fridge before I booked it. But I guess my thought process was that at this price point, I shouldn't have to check for certain standard features. If I'm paying upwards of $110 per night for a room before taxes, it should at least have a mini-fridge. As it was, I had to eat the dinner I picked up at a 3:45 in the afternoon because I wouldn't have been able to reheat it later that night. -Sub-par breakfast. I'll freely admit that I'm not a Belgian waffles, cereal, or toast kind of gal. This limits me significantly when it comes to breakfast offerings. Maybe I had woken up too late (I got to the buffet by 8:45, fifteen full minutes before they closed), but nothing that was remaining in the breakfast area looked appetizing by the time I arrived. I ended up driving down the road to the Einstein's Bagels instead. In most cities, the Fairfield Inn & Suites would be just fine for an overnight stay. This particular hotel gives you the basics, to be sure. But in Champaign-Urbana, however, there are other options at this price point (like the Home2 Suites) that just do the job better. read more

I would give this hotel a six star rating if I could but it will only let me do 5 :( me and two other girls are here for 2 weeks and we were originally staying at the extended stay but it ended up having bed bugs and it was just in general an awful stay, so we came to the Fairfield Inn. We told the guy at the front desk (he has a tattoo sleeve) I don't know his name, about our experience and he felt really bad for us and he ordered us a pizza. He also made sure we had everything we needed, and was just so nice. The hotel is also very clean and well kept up. Amazing customer service! 10/10 recommend. read more

This hotel was pretty decent with the breakfast. Beds were comfortable and I did not hear people running up and down hallways. Unfortunately it lost a few stars do to the weird smelling elevator and in our room a very low spot that tripped us up. Two feet from where the tv stand is was a spot that felt like a hole in the floor that carpet placed over. More then likely or hopefully it was just the padding went bad under the carpet making it feel like the drop was worse then it was. I can only hope they fix that along with the wallpaper coming off the wall in the downstairs floor one hallway not far from the pool. read more

Honestly the whole place smells like smoke, but the night staff is really nice. My non-smoking room was so smokey I had to switch to another floor. My colleague had the same problem and moved to another room only to find it did not have a flushing toilet. I love to stay at Marriott properties, but sometimes it's best to stay in the little college hotel in the little college town. read more

Great place now. They have updated the whole hotel.(although no automatic doors). I have stayed here many times, before, during, and now after the renovation and I must say it is a BIG improvement. The staff was friendly, and they even recognised me from previous stays, even though its been about a month since my last stay. If you're in town try it out. Hotel is clean. Breakfast only served until 9am, quality is fair. Why must water for tea be run through a coffee pot? I like my tea to not be made with water that taste like coffee. Business center is awful at best. Firewalls make it impossible to access Corp Web Sites, Yahoo Mail or anything needed to conduct BUSINESS. Chair at the only computer is ripped to shreds. I commute for business 5 days a week, will not stay in the hotel chain again. read more

The rooms were clean but the furniture was sparse. One chair and ottoman that was not even wide enough got me to sit in and I am not that big. I disliked that the pool did not have a set of stairs going in or out so you are forced to climb ladders and my bad knee does not handle it well. The staff was very helpful. There is not a lot of parking. The air conditioning worked well and our room had no smells of smoke at all. Each year we stay here and I have 5 rooms, I would recommend this hotel with five stars but the tiny chairs in the rooms and the lack of stairs in the pool put it at a three stars read more

Hotel staff are great, even called us to ask if we needed anything. The room was an average room, clean, no smell of smoke. Hot tub clean, perhaps worn out a bit. Breakfast was typical with a good variety of breakfast food. It appears as though the management have high standards for staff. This is good, although the desk staff are not able to sit on a chair or stool to provide service. This seems somewhat cruel to expect an employee to stand at a desk for their entire shift. read more

Best hotel! We came in for an Illini game they let us check in early and called us a cab for the game. Within 2 minutes we were headed on our way!! The room was vey clean and the pool area as well. The next am they were extremely friendly looking up weather conditions because there was a huge storm coming through. They allowed us to stay for another night giving us a larger room and a cut rate due to the weather. This place is awesome!! The staff works extremely hard and we're extremely helpful! We will be staying here every time we come in town!!! read more
