They initially gave me a room with no bed (likely the living room area for a suite) and they immediately fixed the problem. Once I got into my room, it was relaxing and wonderful. The king rooms have a walk in shower and the twin queen bed rooms have a bathtub/shower combo. I mention this as those traveling with kids might prefer the tub option. Every room has a mini fridge. Traveling with little ones here is nice because they can offer a microwave in your room if requested. Made a big difference for us traveling with a young one. The gym is small but they do have a peloton bike among other equipment like free weights and other cardio equipment. Complimentary breakfast has warm savory options like egg burritos both with and without meat. They also offer oatmeal, fruit, yogurt and bagels with plenty of refreshments. Parking is free and easy to find. There's also a complimentary shuttle to take you to places on campus if you have no car. There are also bikes at the hotel to get around. All in all, we enjoyed our stay as did our guests for graduation.

As for me, switching it up a bit with Hilton properties in the area. The property is very clean, standard updates, and the best beds in the industry, which is another reason why Hilton properties are number one for me. No suites at this locations, upgrades will be a king room with a pull out couch, and standard amenities include a desk, television with HDMI connections, no USB, so if you travel with your own television choices like me (Amazon Firestick), it requires a wall plug-in. The powdered eggs were sort of like if a person was expected to eat the fluff out of a fiber padded mailing envelope. Really surprising that that would be considered edible. The bacon, even though it was wafer thin, looked beautifully done and I figured a bagel with cream cheese and bacon would be OK. But even the bacon had no flavor, it wasn't even salty at all. The kitchen staff take a break, which I'm sure is well deserved. Don't get me wrong, right in the guest dining room, and unfortunately seem to be limited to the product of their labor. Nice friendly people, though. The desk clerk was very friendly and accommodating, no matter what time I came by or had to call. The room is clean and quiet. The fridge was not very cold, which is kind of the way they always are with those mini fridges, even though the temperature is set to the coldest setting. The surrounding area seemed safe and the hotel appears to be very popular with elderly people in particular. Being an elderly person, I must say that The combination of the sheets and the height of the bed seat on the mattress can be a death trap. It was impossible to sit on the side of the bed without sliding down towards the floor. This comes from the mattress being without proper support on the sides. The first time I turned on my side to roll out of bed I just about cracked my head open on the side table when I started sliding!!! Once I put a terry cloth towel down on the part of the mattress where you sit on the edge there was enough grip and I could stay up there so long as I could push my feet back to hold me onto the bed. It was a very weird experience.

The people who helped us at the front desk were so very nice and that's why it's 2 star instead of 1 star. You could also tell they really try hard to make the lobby nicer with decorations. But the rooms are just bad. This hotel seriously needs a remodel. The elevator was clearly old and the the hallways were dark and creepy. So was the room. A drawer in a dresser in my room kept opening up just on its own - adding to the creepiness. Also, we didn't have a car and there is nothing walkable near this hotel so we had to Uber just to go get dinner. The coffee at the free breakfast was good. We stayed one night and checked out to go back to the hotel we had been at for the wedding which was only $30 more a night and where we could walk to things.

Our night here was the worst experience I have EVER had at a Marriott property. The hotel was extremely dated, and the room smelled musty and was unclean. There was an air freshener in the AC unit and mold in the shower. The room fell far below the standards we would expect from a Marriott property (or a Motel 6). We didn't speak up about it because we didn't want to cause a problem and were only staying one night. Turns out we were making a $190 mistake without knowing it. Shortly after we checked out, we realized the hotel quietly snuck a $190 cleaning fee onto our bill without telling us. When I called about it, the front desk associate claimed our dog "peed on both beds." We explained that wasn't possible, as the dog was never left unattended in the room and was never let on the beds, but that didn't matter -- they were going to squeeze the extra money out of us and there was nothing we could do to stop it. The worst part: we realized we had slept on the same urine-stained mattress they made us pay to clean. Choose a different hotel, and if all else fails, just sleep in your car. Just don't come here.

Weather was warm and swimming would have been an option if the pool wasn't filthy. The room had the usual amenities with the exception of towel bars. The clean towels were in the vanity cubbies, but the only place we had to put our used, damp towels was one hook on the back of the door. Or draped over the furniture. We'd have been glad to reuse them if they were able to dry during the day. There wasn't a safe in the room. The in room one cup coffee maker had coffee, but the small tray that held the coffee pod was too narrow to fit the coffee maker. It clearly wasn't made for that model. Easy fix; order the correct pod tray. A sign on the mirror said we will change your towels and sheets daily, however you must let the office know if you need this service-unbeknownst to us. No signage indicated this. Over 3 days, we got new towels and trash taken out ONCE. No bed change-not even making the bed. Breakfast was what you'd expect at a budget hotel, coffee available 24 hours in the lobby, but was empty later at night. Staff was friendly and professional. I wasn't expecting the Four Seasons for the La Quinta price.

Being forced to be budget conscious means weighing what's acceptable and what's not. My boyfriend's standards are much lower than mine. Translation: we will debate on where we will stay. Factors to consider: 1) We were on a road trip so we were just going to sleep. 2) I didn't have to shower (I was going to be home the next day and I'm not a sweaty person.) 3) We wanted quick access to the highway. When we checked in, the guy at the desk was super nice. He set us up quickly. We booked through Booking.com - that seemed to work. I had never done that before. The rate was budget friendly. The room appeared to be updated and clean. Bedding was new. Furniture was in decent shape. Nothing appeared to be falling apart. (Can you tell I have had adventures with my boyfriend choosing our hotels? lol) The bathroom was clean - sink and toilet; I think the shower needed a thorough scrubbing - seemed like there was a little bit of mold or was it discoloration? I didn't bother to look at the breakfast. My boyfriend got some yogurt. Overall, it was fine for a road trip pit stop.

*A review for an experience in September 2019*…read more A solid 4! Maybe even a 4.25 if they had offered breakfast, lol. I believe this place was renovated not too long ago, so when I came, everything was pretty spankin' new. Service: when I arrived, I called front desk to bring up some supplies (you'll see a note that its only by request to not be wasteful). The lady was super fast, and super friendly when she dropped off everything! As well, just for the course of the 3 days that I stayed here, the reception was always ready to answer questions and greet you. Gym: small, but standard equipment I expected from a hotel gym. I did not go check out the pool, but it's right next to the gym. They provide some earphones and towels here! Room: I really liked that the room was separated by the bedroom and the "living" space (ie: TV, desk, couch set-up). This made it feel a lot grander! Only thing to note is that the bathroom is right across from your bed. Hard wood floor for the living space, and carpet for the bedroom area. Enough outlets as well! Location: pretty close to UIUC campus. Lyft ride is only about 6 minutes away! Also pretty close to highways, and a couple random stores (Mcdonalds!). Really quiet area too! Overall, I would totally stay here again!

Now there is only a refrigerator and no sink (except in bathroom) or microwave. Bathroom has been enlarged, (but I'd prefer it if they'd kept the kitchenettes). Breakfast (full, hot) was included in the rate when it was Hawthorn Suites, but costs $10-15/day now. There is now a full bar/ restaurant now. Kids eat free in the restaurant. We ordered room seevixe for breakfast one day, and were disappointed that the food was cold & they forgot to provide salt, pepper & butter, so it was even colder by the time we ate it. The pool area was the same as when it was Hawthorn Suites, though this time the pool water was somewhat cold, cloudy, and the hot tub didn't work! We stayed here when it was Hawthorn Suites 4 years ago, and were disappointed with the changes.
