Stayed here for the weekend and would never stay again the carpets were dirty, old and needed to be replaced. Rooms smelt damp and musky. Air conditioner was not cleaned and also seemed to have mold and so much dust. Pamela at the front desk was so unpleasant to deal with on multiple occasions, rude and not friendly at all. To top it all off we got charged a $350 smoking fee, was told they use a sensor and it detected smoke in our room. Nor my husband or I smoke so not sure how that's possible and was told the charge can not be removed. read more

Not a lot of frills to this hotel -- it offers a free continental breakfast, an outdoor pool, in-room DirectTV, and a lounge area with snacks and printing services available. The rooms are comfortable, but not overly lavish--good for sleeping, watching TV, and doing a little bit of work. Where this Hampton stands out above other hotels is its customer service. In the three days I stayed, I encountered some of the friendliest front desk workers ever. Big S/O to the employees here! read more

Autumn was absolutely OUTSTANDING! I booked our stay down the street at the Doyle for the wrong dates. Once I realized that upon check in and they couldn't accommodate us we had to find a place to stay on the fly otherwise we were sleeping in the car. I came in and explained my situation and Autumn stopped what she was doing to come over and assist the new employee to help find the best rate available for me. We had a wonderful pleasant night's sleep thanks to her. Upon check out we left behind an article of clothing. She personally called us to inform us and held it safely for us to pick up. This is definitely a 2 star hotel! Room is small with no ventilation. It's humid in the room even if you only shower 1x. The toilet is pointed at the beds so zero privacy. They do not service your room. We paid $185 per night for this dump! Breakfast was fine. Jamie who works in the breakfast room was very helpful and kept everything clean. No real closet just a drape over the wall. Mold on the ceiling. TV did not work but they were helpful in fixing the problem. So basically the rooms suck but the staff is very good! We stayed here for one night on the way home. We booked this hotel last minute. I had called ahead of time to speak with the front desk about the room and none of the notes were written down in the system. When we checked in, the hotel would not give us two complimentary bottles of water until we had mentioned our tier status with Hilton. The front desk personnel seemed disengaged. Upon checkout, the front desk staff did not ask how our stay was. Our hotel room was not clean. It was clean enough to rest our head and we did not notice any mold in the room. With that said, it did not seem like housekeeping changed the sheets completely between the last persons stay and ours. We checked in late so we did not have many options The complimentary breakfast did not taste fresh and seemed very thrown together. The outdoor area does offer a nice pool if this is what you are looking for. A nice town nearby to walk around and explore the area. Unfortunately, this location missed the mark! read more

We were told our room wasn't ready when we tried to check in. We waited in the lobby for over an hour while we noticed others checking in. When we asked, the reason given was that they forgot about us. Then they put us in a room that was filthy. No discounts were offered for not having a clean room available. read more

We booked this hotel for a 3 night stay. I was initially attracted to the property because of 1. free breakfast and 2. outdoor pool. Of course it rained 3/5 days we were there but I did get a tiny amount of pool time. Likes: The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable. Like top of the line new bed comfortable! A+ (but the pillows sucked. Like we had to request two extras because they were small, soft and had no support. C-) Staff is very friendly and personable. I would say the hotel cleaning staff were some of the nicest people I've ever seen at a hotel! Every single one of them said hello, good morning, sir/ma'am, the whole 9! This was very pleasant. Very short distance to a number of walking places including a dumpling place for snacks and even Whole Foods! We even trekked across the highway to the mall area. It is in a great location for walking or driving! Daily cookies/crackers/cheese starting at 4pm. Plenty of breakfast seating even on a busy Saturday morning Dislikes: Hot breakfast could be more consistent and better laid out. So, one day there was bacon and it was actually FANTASTIC for a hotel breakfast. On the sausage days (2 of them), it was cold and rubbery and not hot. I think the chafing dishes should be kept warmer somehow. Also the plates are only in one location. This is kinda annoying when its a busy bar area and you're to be quick and dirty and not wait for stuff you don't need/want. The eggs are OK. Nothing fantastic but I did like the western omelette selection. Lobby bathroom should be closer to the pool and kept cleaner. It was always smelly. Booked a King on a weekend for a wedding. This small Hampton Inn is located in the nexus of a strip-mall shopping district and is within walking distance from a Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Burger King, and K-Mart, with many more establishments within a short drive, so dining options are both affordable and accessible. My experience at this location was pretty disappointing starting at check-in. First of all, the man at the front desk gave me two key cards that were de-magnetized or otherwise not already programmed with access to our room, forcing me to make an extra trip back downstairs to the front desk. Then he told me that rollaway beds were unavailable for my room, as I had requested in my reservation. (I had requested one both in writing in the special requests box on my reservation and over the phone the week of check-in.) Not cool. My roommate and I were not going to sleep in the same bed, no matter how big the bed. My roommate went back downstairs half an hour later to request a rollaway bed, and the woman at the counter (who had replaced her visibly tired colleague on the shift prior) obliged with no objection or difficulty. Was that really so hard, prior-shift guy? After you take one of the painfully old and slow elevators up to your room, you'll understand why this location is undergoing renovations. The colorful first-floor lobby belies hallway carpeting and lighting that are visibly aged, and the hallways have a slightly musty, dusty smell--possibly from the ongoing construction work. The elevators and stairwells closest to the lobby are actually outside the lobby, right before the double sliding doors leading out to the parking lot. Behind the building is a small gated swimming pool. Clearly, many of the rooms at this facility were designed for couples. As other reviewers have noted, the rooms have sliding barn doors (with NO latch or locking mechanism) instead of swiveling doors--meaning that you'll have to trust your roommate to have to courtesy to knock first (and to deal with the aftermath of your bathroom activity since there are no fans to suck away odors and vapor). To add to the under-furnished feel of the room, there is no closet--just a shelf with wall-mounted hooks behind a curtain at the far side of the room. I liked the thickly padded headboard above the bed, which made for a pleasant TV-watching experience. Unfortunately, I was unable to turn off or turn down the A/C using either the auto or manual settings on the wall-mounted thermostat, so we had to deal with arctic winds while we slept. Basic in-room wi-fi is complimentary only if you log in with a Hilton HHonors account (premium wi-fi free for members with Gold status). Otherwise, you'll need an access code or a credit card. Despite all of these drawbacks, the single redeeming feature is the free food and drink (sorry, INCLUDED food and drink). Tea, coffee, and water are available to guests 24/7 in the lobby, and cookies are placed out on the side table opposite the front desk after 3 or 4 PM. I would return here for the excellent continental breakfast, which during my visit included waffle maker waffles, cheese and egg omelettes, oatmeal (with craisins, chocolate chips, shredded coconut), hard-boiled eggs, instant grits, milk, orange juice, coffee, toast, muffins, boxed cereal, Activia yogurt, bananas, and fresh-cut papaya & pineapple. read more

Room was small. Desk chair - the only chair in the room (there were also two push-away ottomans) - was at the desk and directly in front of the air conditioner so that I couldn't sit without having a constant cold wind on my neck. Beds were reasonably comfortable, but the covers consisted of a thin sheet and a heavy comforter. We had to keep the room temp way down all night so that the comforter wasn't too warm. Cofee was okay and always available (NOT a Keurig, thankfully). Breakfasts were pretty sad, and cheese and crackers in the afternoon barely showed effort. Relatively quiet, though the hotel was full of apparently boisterous guests. Parking was adequate. We did not use the pool or the gym. read more

I'm a bit bougie when it comes to hotel rooms so I was a bit hesitant to book a night at the Hampton Inn. But I take everything back, because in the famous words of Linda Belcher this play is "Allllll riiiiiiighhhhhht!" The location is central to everything that Charlottesville has to offer and the beds are clean, comfortable with super soft sheets. I think I forgot to press 'confirm' when I booked online for the night but they were able to hook me up with a room easy peasy. Included in the price is a breakfast buffet and while it is not going to win any Michelin stars anytime soon it had a variety of fresh fruit, cereal, scrambled eggs, and even hot waffles! I was in and out, and have no complaints at all. read more

After a very long road trip from New York and late check-in of 11pm, Eric at the front desk was very warm and welcoming. We even got free cans of coke as Gold members. Hot chocolate/coffee/tea area (free) in the lobby. Clean and comfortable rooms (only one chair by the desk). Microwave (!) and fridge in room. The usual Hampton Inn breakfast selection (waffles, sausage, eggs). The dining area gets really crowded so we ate in the room. Convenient to UVA campus, and the hotel gets booked months out. read more

It's pretty much a standard-issue Hampton Inn. (I've stayed here a number of times for business). Which is to say it's fine at its price point. It's not the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons but it's also a lot cheaper. It's clean, comfortable and well located for my needs. My only complaint is the same as at the other million Hamptons I've stayed at: breakfast is kind of poor. Luckily there's a Bodo's Bagels about a mile away so I often just go there for delicious bagels instead. Like everything in Charlottesville this hotel is dependent on UVA. So if there's a graduation or big football or basketball game going on book well ahead of time. I've had minimal interactions with the staff, which is good because that means I haven't had any issues. Elevator and stairs are not actually inside the hotel which is kind of weird but no big deal. Overall it's a decent hotel option in Charlottesville. read more

Stayed here for UVA graduation with family, we had 3 rooms. It's a reasonably modern (probably refurbished not too long ago) Hampton Inn, however, it fell short of our standards in several ways. We've stayed at many Hampton Inns and this one was a bit lacking. To start, one of our rooms (out of 3) had a dank/musty smell. I'm not sure where the smell was coming from, if I had to guess it would be the carpeting.....maybe it got wet at some point, not sure. In any case, it was very noticeable when you entered the room, our family who stayed in other rooms noticed it. Housekeeping would have definitely noticed it unless they had no sense of smell, so there is no excuse, it should have been corrected. Second, the rooms were VERY small. I've never seen rooms at a Hamton Inn this small before, except maybe in a large/condensed city. There was barely enough rooms for both beds and it was pretty tight walking around the room. Third, we tried to use the pool but it was extremely cold and also had a "film" on top of it, as if the filter was not properly working. Finally, the showers were consistenly low on hot water.....the water was only lukewarnm (our other family members experienced this also). Our stay was not horrible, but this Hampton could definitely use some improvements. I would definitely look for another hotel to stay at in this area. Positives: - clean and modern decor - close to campus (but not walking distance) Negatives: - very small rooms (basically just enough room for the two queen beds) - room had a "dank/musty smell" - pool was not clean (had a film on the top of it) and was very cold - showers were short on hot water....only lukewarm at times read more

We got snowed in here in the storm of 2009, December. The staff has been extremely accommodating. They served their breakfast over an hour past the time that was posted because people were stuck in the snow, some overnight. They also have a microwave in the breakfast area for customers to use. I was told that some staff slept here at the inn to help customers. They were all very polite and pleasing. We asked to extend our stay 2 days and it was no problem at all. This hotel is very clean and kept nice for it's customers. There is a "Chili's" very nearby, as well as other food places and a grocery store. There is also a group of shopping centers and a gas station right here as well. They have an outdoor pool and in-room wi-fi. Flat screen TVs in the rooms, desks with great lighting, plenty of electrical outlets, and coffee makers in the rooms. They also have a computer and printer in the lobby for customers to use for 30 min. intervals to print out itineraries, etc. After all of that, they are very close to many historical tourist places, including Monticello. If you fly, they are also very close to the airport (Which they have an airport shuttle for too!). There is a movie theater very close. They also gave you anything that you could ask for in a hotel, be it extra towels, amenities, etc. Way to go Hampton Inn on India in Charlottesville and all of your employees for making a difficult travel situation bearable. Location is a plus. With Hampton as in most chain hotels, you know what your going to get. No surprises here, about what you would expect. I got a room on the 1st floor and didn't experience the same noise issues as my other Yelpmates. I got a Queen room for $99, throw in wi-fi, breakfast and a location close to Hiway 29 and you got a winner. I like the Hampton chains because they are a step above most other brands and they honor the USAir Dividend Miles card...stepping closer to the next travel extravaganza! read more

I had a great experience at this hotel. Check in was easy. The man who checked us in made me a Hotel Hilton Honors Member. I got free bottles of water. The fridge worked. The HVAC system worked. The room was clean. They had complimentary cookies and drinks in the front area. It was just a very good experience overall. The location felt safe. The staff were just all very pleasant and kind. I had a great experience. Unfortunately, I do feel like the $212 for 1 night was a little steep; but it was booked through my company's travel broker; so I don't know if that's just the going rate in this area or what. The rooms are nice enough and there are a good array of complimentary toiletries available which is quite nice. But the staff seems incapable of quieting rowdy guests. We had some awful people in the hallway across from us who yelled and slammed doors until 11 pm we finally decided to call the front desk which assured us that they would take care of it. They were ineffective and we were treated to the sounds of yelling, cursing, slamming doors and angry shouts until 2 am. Since the point of a hotel is to get a good night's rest, we were failed on this occasion. read more

Yes, you really don't want to be on the first floor here, as Anpan noted. Way too much traffic. That may be the smoking floor, too. The coffee and tea service in the lobby is good. Cookies are out about 4 pm. Breakfast is okay as long as you don't expect too much from the hot items (steer clear of the omelettes and home fries...the sausage is edible). The waffle iron works well. You can also get filled up on the cereal, fruit, and pastries. The rooms are modern enough. Bathroom is a little cramped. Musty, moldy smell is pretty strong. Standard loud air conditioner. Wi-Fi connection is unusually hard to figure out. This is the first hotel in 10 years that we ultimately never connected to the Internet at. At least there are two terminals in the lobby that you can use. The pool is small, but usable. Go a dinner time, when everyone's out at restaurants. The staffers were friendly and helpful. Must credit them for that. But overall, for the price ($135 + tax) for a King, the value wasn't there. If it's a plus for you that it's within walking distance of Kmart, a movie theater, and Giant, you're set. We will not return. read more

Only stayed one night but loved the room updates. The bathroom had a sliding barn door and the closet was a slim section by the window covered by the drapes. Everything was functional, just unusual for a hotel room. It was different but a good different. All the details were nicely thoughtout, down to the slow closing toilet lids. Beds were plush and comfy and they had a good hot breakfast also. The staff was exceptionally nice. We would stay here again for sure! read more

The rooms was very clean and large. The staff is wonderful. I arrived early and my room wasn't ready yet, so they switched me to a different room immediately, called to make sure the new room was ok, and gave great dinner recommendations. The breakfast includes a lot of choices, and the eating area is pleasant. The wifi can be a bit slow at busy times (particularly around 6-7 PM), but that's my only complaint. Easy access, lots of great restaurants and newer shopping area/movie theatre. Will stay again. read more

This Hampton Inn is close to the Charlottesville airport in the middle of a lot of restaurants (plus a Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods). I only stayed here one night and had no issues. The room was the older style version with the wardrobe closet and desk built into the wall and also had a couch instead of a lounge chair. There was a fridge but no microwave. It was clean and everything was in working order. Staff was friendly and efficient. They also let me know that there were Diamond parking spots on the close side of the hotel and actually asked for my vehicle type so maybe they enforce??? My only complain is that they had no coin laundry. A perfectly acceptable hotel choice when in the area. read more

Terrible customer service by manager on duty. I arrived at the hotel ahead of my wife. She called several hours earlier to add my name to the reservation and did so successfully, or so she thought. When I arrived the staff member at the front desk wasn't aware of the change and got the manager on duty, Kieth Gromes. The guy came out and asked me if I knew how hard I was making his job. I explained that my wife called earlier to make the change and the staff member on duty told her it wasn't going to be a problem. He then asked how I'd like it if I was in his position. I provided them with my wife cell phone number so that they could called her directly for permission. They then called two staff members who were on duty earlier in the day. They confirmed that my did call and they told her it was fine but neglected to leave a note. At that point Mr. Gromes tossed the rooms keys on the counter toward me and walked away without saying anything. This was very poor customer service. It's too bad because otherwise the hotel is quite nice. I hope they can fix this issue so that other guest don't have to deal with this level of service. read more

Very nice staff - from front desk to housekeeping, dining area and maintenance, everyone was great, friendly and made you feel like a valued guest. The room was nice, carpets a little dated in hotel, but everything was clean. Fluffy pillows, clean sheets and comfortable beds. Breakfast was okay; self-serve and sufficient...coffee, tea, cocoa available all day. Snacks available at times; cookies, crackers and cheese. Our room was nice and my husband loves everything. In the morning he did have a bloody nose due to dry air in the room but, that is to be expected in the winter from the heat. I was able to bring breakfast up to the room for him. The front desk staffs were all helpful and pleasant especially Tremayne. The excellent breakfast bar was prepared beautifully display; fully stock and clean. The food was delicious as well. We had a positive experience and we will certainly be back as future guests. read more

I have found that Hampton Inns are my new go-to hotel. All of the ones that I have stayed in for the past year have been nicely renovated. This one was no exception. In addition to the regular amenities like breakfast- this one had a Saltwater Pool, and snacks (cheese, crackers, and cookies) in the late afternoon. What did set this place apart, however, was the front desk service. From the minute we checked in to the minute we checked out, the front desk staff were helpful and cheerful. THEY are what made me bump this up to 5 stars! read more

We ended up at this hotel since it is wedding season and everything downtown Charlottesville was booked. Not what you think for a Hampton Inn. Better! We booked a king size room and it had more of a boutique hotel room feel. It looks like the hotel was going through some renovations to modernize its decoration and we lucked out with one of the newer rooms. I wish i had taken more pictures. The door leading to the bathroom was a barn door that rolled to the side. So cute. Most hotels that I've been to always has that caked in smoke smell and you just don't trust to walk around bare feet on. I would definitely recommend this place. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Charlottesville but within a few minutes you have a very modern outdoor shopping area and plenty of food options. read more

I really love Hampton Inn's for the value they offer me and my family when traveling. This is a very nice and new-er Hampton but it is way smaller than any Hampton I have ever stayed in before. We had a King Suite and our family was absolutely on top of each other. To me, this made it a big reason why I will stay somewhere else if I am ever in the area. The breakfast area is ridiculously small and there was nowhere to sit. It would be fine if you were by yourself but if you are with a family- stay elsewhere. read more

Not much to say about this hotel because we mainly just slept here and left. The room was very clean and I liked the duvet/sheet hybrid. They had Neutrogena toiletries which were a plus. My husband and I had a good night sleep after a long day of work. read more
