We had a lovely dinner at the Kimpton in Charlottesville, sharing a tuna appetizer, salmon entrée and truffle fries, but the most memorable part of the evening came afterward. We wandered over to the bar with a baby in tow and asked if we could order dessert. Not only were we welcomed, we ended up having one of those unexpectedly delightful evenings that you remember long after the meal itself. The Texas sheet cake was delicious and almost comically enormous. We tried the housemade Amaro, and the evening's cocktail special -- a gorgeous riff on a margarita made with butterfly pea tea -- was fantastic. But the real standout was Randy behind the bar. He was warm, funny, kind and completely unfazed by the fact that our little group included a baby. He made us feel genuinely welcome and helped turn an ordinary after-dinner stop into a wonderful birthday celebration. Great food and drinks are easy enough to praise. Hospitality like that is rarer. I couldn't recommend Randy more highly -- and I'll remember this birthday evening in Charlottesville for a long time. read more

Massive property, but even though it was massive, very easy to get around. Great upgrade to a king premium with terrace. Even though it was on the 5th floor, had a massive terrace that overlooked part of the UVA campus. The property is on the that campus. Behind the property is a large arboretum with several shady walking trails. We saw deer right off the property, and a heron in the arboretum. Breakfast was very good, and no problem with using our diamond breakfast amenity to cover the whole meal. The servers were great. We had dinner 1 night in the good sport, and the food, and the prices were very good. Sometimes hotel restaurants leave a little to be desired, but this one did not. It is the more casual of the 2 restaurants. Easy drive to James Madison's Montpelier home (we did this on the drive down from DC), Wilson's Presidential library, and Luray Caverns. Everyone on staff was very friendly, gave us a great in-room welcome amenity, and had great choices at social hour. read more

This Kimpton on the campus of the University of Virginia is one of the happiest experiences I have had in the US. I actually wanted to stay longer. Friends, I never want to stay longer in a hotel. Kimptons are dog-friendly. I have my dogs with me and it was seamless and amazing. The lobby and bar and restaurants are just wonderful. The rooms are beautiful. The grounds are beautiful. The staff are kind, intelligent, pleasant, skilled. This is now my go to when stopping in Virginia. read more

We stayed here to celebrate our honeymoon and my birthday and we didn't want to leave. We were also greeted with some surprises since we were celebrating! The room was beautiful, the patio was so relaxing and a perfect spot to hang out on, and everyone who worked there was so friendly. Everyone went out of their way to be kind, helpful, and gave our dog all the treats he could eat! The room was immaculately cleaned, Birch and Bloom was delicious (we were lucky enough to be there during restaurant week!) and the outside was beautiful to go on walks as we were directly across from a nice walking trail. I enjoyed my stay here, and would love to return! The staff are friendly and welcoming, and gave my dog plenty of treats whenever we passed the front desk. They even sent a text when I had a DND sign to confirm I was alright without services (I was) - which I appreciated. The nature trails around back are lovely, and you can't beat the location for Darden or the Law School. Great place to stay, especially with pets in tow (no fees!). read more

Someone turned my watch into the Lost and Found at the Front Desk following my stay at this hotel. When I called the front desk to ask about it, the male receptionist told me someone had recovered it and he would ship it to my home address! However, he gave me a phoney name and reference number, and never actually followed through. Obviously keeping my watch for himself. Management did nothing except offer a shallow apology. It's an absolute disgrace a person trusted to be the face of a respected hotel could be so dishonest and steal something from a guest. read more

Relatives were visiting from overseas and we decided to visit Shenandoah National Park / Charlottesville and spend a night at the brand new Kimpton The Forum Hotel at UVA Darden Business School. (1 night, 2 rooms) Room #1: 1BR Suite (#367) Diamond Elite (upgrade) Room #2: Studio Suite (#566) Diamond Elite (upgrade) The 1BR Suite is a great size (783 sqft) with a nice layout and view. Comfy L-shaped couch. Dining table + 6 seats. USB-C charge ports in LR & BR. (2) TVs. Bathroom: double sink, shower booth, tub. Separate toilet room with additional sink. Minor issues: Shower booth had a small exterior leak. (3) lamps were missing lightbulbs (2 bedside lamps, 1 dining area lamp). Dining table (upper) lighting had (3) unlit bulbs bc they weren't screwed in all the way. Huge difference in total light output afterwards. Kimpton bath products have always been subpar. Hopefully they'll catch up to Intercontinental or their competitors ... one day! Lovely Lobby Lounge! Overall my observations of the hotel have been good so far. The rooms are spacious and clean and offer a more upscale offering than other hotels in cville. The hotel is brand new and it feels that way - everything is stunning from the moment you pull into the valet circle and the aesthetics are gorgeous. The lobby is a great place to relax and get work done. The two restaurants on site are also fantastic and great for a business lunch. The conference area is fabulous and there are multiple rooms to accommodate different workshop or presentation styles. For event planners, expect to pay a premium for the space because it is quite pricey. The service is consistent and available pretty regularly. There were really only two downsides I would note: 1) catering for events on-site the majority of the time did not include note cards with ingredient notices. This was surprising to me because food allergy concerns are commonly accommodated. I also noticed much of the food offerings did not have ample vegetarian/vegan alternatives. This may have just been the conference I went to not picking veg options. Many things had either meat or dairy products in them. 2) the other downside is parking. Good luck finding any nearby unless you want to pay for (very limited) UVA parking. You will need to use the valet. Overall I think it's a fantastic place to stay. The conference was great, the rooms are top notch, the event spaces are wonderful, restaurants and service all good. I would definitely be back to the space in the future. read more

The people are nice, but you wait for them to acknowledge you at the bar for 5 minutes when no one else is there. The breakfast is slow, and don't ask for anything extra because it will never come! Back for parents weekend and although the prices here were sky high, they were also sky high at other hotels without the nice vibe so we bit the bullet and decided to stay here again considering our prior positive experience. I still must say the location to UVA and the hotel itself are still worthy of 4 stars but the service just doesn't match up. We paid the rate that included breakfast for two for both days and I understand it was a busy weekend, however, the wait for our meals was out of control. Luckily we had time but to wait 1 hour for pancakes is ridiculous. Looks like the restaurant is just understaffed...but when you pay $600-$800 for one night this just shouldn't happen. Secondly, the hotel publishes a info flyer that says a bus will take guests to the UVA football game starting 2 hours prior to the game and it will run every 30-40 minutes. Game starts at 2pm so we are in the front by Noon along with others. At 12:45 no bus and nobody at the hotel can provide any definitive info. Once again, if you tell guests you are going to do something, it should be done and employees should be able to provide info/insight. It'd be better if the hotel didn't even mention the shuttle in order to avoid expectations. In summary, better customer service and more employees in the restaurant should be a priority for Mgmt. Hopefully, someone is paying attention or we will need to reevaluate for our next stay in Charlottesville. read more

The Forum has long been our go-to hotel whenever we visit Charlottesville, and until recently, every stay has been exceptional. The property is beautiful, with stunning botanical gardens, top-tier amenities, friendly and professional staff; and is conveniently located. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Because of our many positive experiences, we were genuinely excited to host a small gathering with family and friends at the Forum last month. While the event itself was lovely and our primary contact in the sales and catering department was a pleasure to work with, we unfortunately encountered an issue that affected our overall impression. Despite clearly communicating our desire to stay within a defined budget--and receiving repeated assurances that we would--the hotel charged our credit card a week before the event for an unexpected expense that was never properly explained. Disappointingly, our efforts to dispute the charge were unsuccessful, and the hotel declined to reverse it. We continue to appreciate many aspects of the Forum however, for those considering hosting an event here, we strongly recommend getting all cost details in writing and confirmed in advance, as our experience suggests that even clear communication may not be enough to prevent surprise charges. read more

The hotel is a bit over the top on the exterior. Beautiful grounds and nice common areas. Unfortunately, the banquet dinner was easily the worst dinner of this kind I have ever had - and I've been to lots of them all over the country. We had a buffet with soggy overcooked vegetables, and overdone steak that was dry and difficult to cut and chew. The salmon also was dry. The roasted potatoes kind of mashed together. And the wine options were awful. Very disappointing meal for a law school reunion. read more

So awesome....so very very awesome! This was probably the best hotel I've visited in a quite awhile and I tend to stay at nicer properties. If you're visiting UVA, location is amazing. It's literally next door to the law school. If you're touring UVA, it's maybe a 5 min drive to the welcome center. Only valet is available at the hotel (that I saw), but they are prompt and courteous. The front desk staff was incredibly welcoming. They were the epitome of customer centric. They stopped whatever they were doing as soon as we walked up, were completely focused on handling our needs, were friendly/capable/professional. The hotel in general is upscale and a touch trendy. Unlike other hotels that are cheap upscale, it seems this one is quality upscale. The decor is fun and welcoming. The vibe was positive as well when we arrived in the evening. Made me want to hang out and have a cocktail. The rooms were quality, clean, in good condition. Bathroom wasn't anything great, but it was still clean and fine. I don't love the shared products, but can get over that. Breakfast in the morning was the only area that was just okay. They offer a buffet for around $20 that includes coffee/tea, eggs, pastries, fruit, sausages. Buffet was meh. The meals off the menu were better. Appreciated that they had gluten free bread and that they were willing to use olive oil to cook our eggs rather than their seed oil blend. Also liked that they offered the Natalie's fresh grapefruit juice. It's obvious the management/leadership at this location are doing a great job - kudos! (We went to a different Kimpton the next night and wasn't nearly as nice.) If I'm ever in the area again, would definitely return and recommend to others. read more

Beautiful hotel right on Grounds at UVA. This is exactly what the area needed. We needed a hotel that had the conference space to host events of various sizes in the area. In addition to the conference spaces, they have two restaurants on site as well as a nice lobby bar. The grounds of the hotel has numerous walking paths that connect to various parts of UVA. Coming for an athletic event or concert at John Paul Jones arena? The Forum is a great spot to park and stay. read more

What a stunning hotel. In the heart of a gorgeous campus, this place spared no expense on luxury. I absolutely loved the inviting conversation areas with couches and fireplaces galore. The fine dining was absolutely superb. The wine list is unparalleled to most fine restaurants. Hats tipped to the sommelier, you can actually get by-the-glass wine that is superb. The room was comfy and beautiful. We truly enjoyed walking the beautiful gardens and EVERY single staff member we encountered was helpful, friendly and accommodating. We actually made it a point to enjoy the hotel more than our tourist destinations. This hotel is a vacation in itself and we really enjoyed drinking a glass of wine in bed and embracing all the cute things this hotel has to offer. I have zero negative things to say about our stay. This hotel is pricey and they seem to go out of their way to make that a value. We will 100% stay here again. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. We were there for my niece's wedding at Pippin Hill but the majority of the events were at the Forum Hotel over the course of 4 days. It was extraordinary. From the welcome cocktail hour to the after party of the wedding reception to the brunches, everything was spectacular. The food, the service, the friendliness of the staff, the nice rooms, the grounds, bikes, yoga mat in the room, the hosted evening happy hour and good areas to work from like the living room and case study, all were exceptional. I have to give a shout out to my man Rashan "RJ". He was so helpful over the course of the week for our wedding party as well as Brittany C. She was awesome and funny! Jonathan looks stoic but with a little humor you can get him laughing!!! You're alright Jonathan! James the manager was so great and helpful as well. I loved him so much, I invited him as my wedding guest but he didn't come! Iryna worked our brunch and was so lovely. I talked to her more than my family I think! Beautiful architecture and interiors and top notch fitness center with 3 Peloton bikes. Customer service was lacking and inconsistent. They don't clean your room unless you request it. That's what I was told. However, I had lots of friends staying here as we were all I town for a wedding and they did not need to request housekeeping. Since I missed the housekeeping window for the day, I asked for towels and never received them. Valet parking was SLOW to retrieve cars. I receive breakfast vouchers, two sets of friends received a bottle of champagne on arrival and the rest of my friends received nothing. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to who gets what as far as I could tell. When I went to use the breakfast voucher I was told I could either have the continental breakfast or $40 off an entree by the hostess. Our waitress was rude, barely checked on us, and we had to ask for more water. She took my breakfast voucher (for 2 people) and said she was going to "make an adjustment". She came back with a check that appeared to be for $65. When I began to ask her about it she spoke to me like I was an idiot and pointed out another piece of paper on the clipboard behind the $65 check that indicated that it was "adjusted" down to $0. She seemed to enjoy this interaction and therefore I certainly did not leave a tip. Would I stay here again? No. At over $400 per night, the customers service needs to at least match the aesthetics. read more

This hotel needs a lot of work in the customer service department. The waitstaff in the restaurants is clueless. After over 20 minutes of waiting for cocktails, the food arrived 30 minutes later. No one ever came back to ask if we wanted another cocktail or if the food was to our liking. We had to hunt someone down to get the check. Not a good experience at all. I used valet parking, but no one on staff could drive a stick, and I was asked to park it myself. Incredibly, they still charged me the $26 valet fee! I left a straightening iron in the room and called 4 hours after check-out. I was told Housekeeping was gone for the day and they would call me back on Saturday. Crickets. Called a week later and was told nothing had been found, therefore I must not have left it in the room. My husband is the one who left it, thinking it belonged to the hotel, so I know it was left in the room! No offer to make things right or to check again. Never again. read more

Brand NEW fresh and immaculate we still cannot believe this one of a kind structure and surroundings were built from scratch from the ground up opening in April to mystify and welcome its guests! I know...we'll start with the ABOVE AND BEYOND STAFF!!! From the moment we entered the premises (greeted by Deante, the valet manager, what a friendly engaging guy and his assistant Trey) we were welcomed with such open arms it made us feel as if we had just come into a family reunion! Retired now and looking for a place for total R & R...a place to totally decompress we found it here on the campus of UVA! Brittany Cencewizki, The Forum's Assistant Front Desk Manager, was incredible assisting us wayward travelers to navigate the best possible accommodations for the week. Her polite courteous and absolutely personable demeanor was infectious removing any doubt that The Forum Hotel was the BEST and ONLY place for us to spend our week! Thank you Brittany for epitomizing the word hospitality! The Forum is extremely lucky to have you! Brittany along with her colleagues at the front desk took us to a tranquil place after a long drive south! Marcus Jones was masterful with his suave sophisticated manner...his pride in The Forum and his coworkers was heartfelt and encouraged us to want to see more! He is truly one of a kind and a REAL ASSET to The Forum! Also helping to make our check in so seamless were Juliette and our second Brittany. They were SO polite and professional and are a perfect match for this exquisite hotel! Thanks to you all we are now relaxing on the most comfortable bed on the planet reflecting on a long but magnificent day! Everything about this place screams of class...the incredible architecture and decor, the design and color pallet...the surrounding grounds and gardens...pictures don't do it justice...only a first hand in person stay will mesmerize you as it has us to put you in a state of total serenity! It's still early as they recently opened but still quite surprised at the numerous problems. Not sure if the management has made up its mind to be an upscale hotel in a college town or a real pretty place for business/law students to hang out. Observations include 1) not having a veggie burger on the menu, 2) housekeeping BANGING on the door early in the morning despite the late check out set, 3) VERY loud party music on the terrace, which looks out on a serene, tranquil view - forget trying to have a convo or just relaxing (I watched at least five people come and immediately leave irritated by the music volume), 4) No one or system to hold the door as you enter - good luck if you are by yourself with luggage, 5) Missing items in the room (e.g., no trash can in the bathroom), 6) EXTENDED wait on the hostess at the restaurant to answer a simple question about the menu - instead I was ignored while she talked to her co-workers. Was I not visible? Was I too kind? She apologized for forgetting me despite the fact that I was standing in front of her waiting. #weird #brainoverload Overall, the hotel is beautiful (stunning lobby/atrium) but the service standard needs much, much more time to be a winner.
