Great hotel, location and staff. This was our second time staying here and it did not disappoint. The rooms are modern and clean. The breakfast has a large variety of items to choose from. The hotel is walking distance to lots of great restaurants, pharmacies, shopping and minutes away from the old John Dillinger museum jail and conveniently located off I 65. Every staff member we encountered was professional, accommodating, and genuinely kind. Marilyn, Rebecca and Russell at the front desk made us feel welcomed from the second we arrived, and they consistently went above and beyond throughout our stay. Housekeeping clearly takes great pride in maintaining the property because everything felt immaculate throughout our entire stay. Most definitely would recommend to others and travelers. read more

Excellent hotel! Everything was very clean, employees were welcoming and friendly. My room was spacious and well arranged. The bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of places to plug in devices. The bathroom and shower were fine. Breakfast was pretty standard for Hampton Inn, and the breakfast area was very clean. I live the conveyor toaster! It makes perfect toast quickly. I wish I could have one in my kitchen at home. This hotel is extremely convenient, located far enough off the interstate so there is no road noise but still easy to find. Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. I'll definitely stay here when I am in this area. read more

Overall: We used this hotel to host our out of town wedding guests, including ourselves, and had multiple issues with the property. We occupied approximately 50-60% of the hotel's space during the wedding. The issues with the property added a lot of stress to our wedding planning and took away from our big day. The property managers were unavailable at times when we needed them and made several commitments which they did not keep. Room Block: We created a hotel block with the property's sales representative. The property committed to obligating 30 rooms to our block but only would add rooms in increments of 5. The sales representative told us that as long as we filled the previous rooms added they would have rooms available. However, every time we contacted to add rooms to our block, the sales representative would have a different issue which we had to work through of why we would possibly not be able to add the rooms they committed for us. We fortunately were able to add the total rooms after having to speak with the General Manager. We also had well over 20 additional guests have to book outside of the hotel block. Room Issues: Many of our out of town guests were contacted by the hotel about room issues the day before their stay. Several guests had called the hotel and reserved specific rooms for different reasons, only to not be able to stay in those rooms for a variety of different issues. Several rooms the A/C did not work in. Several rooms not all the outlets worked. The hotel was not able to accommodate the services which they committed to. Several guests requested technicians be sent to correct the problem, but, did not want to leave their valuables unattended. The the hotel was unable to arrange a time where the guests were in their room for the technicians to come. Customer Service: The hotel management offered several members of our party use of their facilities meeting rooms and patio areas, as well as refunds on the rooms as compensation for the inconvenience. We confirmed the use of these facilities with several different managers. However, when the time came for us to use these facilities the hotel would not allow us to use the agreed upon spaces. The hotel's managers were unable to be contacted and did not leave the single hotel employee on shift with the details about the arrangements which were set up due do the inconvenience. We had to change our entire plan, which was coordinated ahead of time and caused great inconvenience and put a blemish on our wedding night. Billing: The hotel also offered to refund room charges due to the changes in reservations. We have several charges on our credit cards which the hotel did not provide us receipts for. We are unsure if these charges are the rooms which are not refunded or a different charge. We have been unable to secure a receipt for the charges from the hotel. Highlight: Despite the poor customer service from the management staff, we would like to highlight the tremendous customer service from the chef, Cynthia. Cynthia was a pleasure to work with and had a great attitude. She went out of her way to make sure the hotel had the correct amount of food and that our guests were fed. This seems like a relatively new hotel, so everything is in great shape, but while the design aspects of the room are aesthetically fine, it's the little things about the function (mostly with the bathroom) that just seem to have not been well thought out. The most annoying thing is the barn door for the bathroom and closet--it doesn't latch, so I can't imagine this being good if you had young kids along for the trip. It is also the door for both the bathroom and the closet, which could lead to someone getting stuck in the bathroom while another person is accessing the closet (and we were in town to attend a wedding, so this did happen for a little bit), which is a minor inconvenience but still irritating. We also weren't able to figure out how to turn the bathroom light off other than letting it turn itself off, which it does after a few minutes. That seems like a good energy saving feature until you realize that the motion detection on the light switch that keeps it on while someone is in the bathroom doesn't see anything inside the shower, which caused a call for help from the bathroom because it is otherwise pretty dark. The towel bars for the hand towels are also comically below hip height, and built into the counter/vanity. In the rest of the room, the furniture has the nice feature of having outlets with some USB plugs built in, so that was a nice plus. We couldn't figure out how to cast or otherwise connect any of our devices to the TV, however, so that went unused for the duration of the trip. We also found the mini fridge door ajar and warm inside with the previous occupant's leftovers in it and beginning to have a smell, but we caught it right when we got in and we were able to trash it outside by the elevator before we went to sleep. (Always check the mini fridge!) The black out roller shade was also stuck closed in our room, but that's better than stuck open, and we would have asked for it to be fixed if we'd had more time. The bed itself was reasonable, if a little on the soft side for my back, but the sheets seemed to be the wrong size and could barely be put on, popping off as soon as either of us got into the bed. Maybe it was some kind of user error, but we're pretty sure we know how fitted sheets should work... Breakfast was pretty standard, although they do have two different flavors of waffle batter available. As a vegetarian with an egg allergy, there's rarely anything I can really eat at continental breakfasts, but I was sad to see there was only toast and no English muffins or bagels. (I do believe they had a gluten free muffin, however, for folks who cannot have gluten.) The potatoes were nice, but get contaminated with the egg and sausage next to them quickly (guests will mix the serving utensils out of convenience, so not the kitchen staff's fault), so I could only eat those sparingly due to my allergy. Also, if you go in the last hour of breakfast as we did the first day, they may be out of coffee and don't appear to want to refill at that point (we saw multiple guests ask). There are tiny yogurt cups available as well, which at least are gelatin-free, but very sweet. Folks at the front desk seem reasonably pleasant--we had to have our key cards reset after the first day, purportedly due to a lingering issue with the CrowdStrike problem. There's also a little snack store right by the front desk, which seems convenient. Overall, not bad, but with its fair share of little design annoyances that would have me consider other options in the future. For a newer hotel, I also would have expected a couple of EV charging stations to be available as well, but that might be my West Coast mindset. read more

I've been traveling for work on a regular basis for over 25 years and I've been a Hilton Diamond for a good 15 of those years. That's basically saying I stay in hotels a lot, usually 80+ nights most years. This is a nice, new and clean representation of the Hampton Inn chain. The room and hotel are very clean and the service here was really friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was kept up with and we never had a day where everything was low or scraps, which post Covid has been a common issue. I had zero complaints and honestly that's rare over the last 2 years because as most travelers know, hotels and restaurants have been struggling for good help. Thus far, this place has it together and I'll definitely stay here again when back in the area. One plus of staying here vs Merrillville is that there are tons of restaurants that are nicer, less packed and just easier to get in and out of. If you're visiting someone in the area, this is a fantastic stay. Enjoy! read more

We checked in and went to our room. We were told this was a newer hotel. I could smell the new carpet smell however it was not kept up. 2 days and carpet not vacuumed in the halls nor elevators. The absolutely unexceptionable room condition was the bathroom door. There should be a notification at check in that the bathroom door slides like a barn door; not closing and unable to lock. Not enough space here to cite all the problems with this property. We had 3 rooms in first 24 hours b/c broken or filthy conditions. Front desk clerk Rebecca intentionally double booked 3rd room and stood by to watch as 2nd guest entered our room. Front desk clerk Tricia turned Hospitality to Hostility when asked to change channel in breakfast room with her mocking and condescending behavior. Manager Alma cited short handed as excuse. Breakfast attendant refused to bring more hot food @9:35 when breakfast advertised until 10. Appalling customer service. Rooms with broken A/C and fixtures and black mold. My gripe mostly with staff passive/aggressive behavior. read more

The hotel itself was nice from the outside. unfortunately, the kids party next door up until past midnight was not. Kids were screaming and slamming doors. Be prepared if you want to get rest you won't be able to get it. The walls are paper thin. They could also really work on room cleanliness. read more

We have been visiting this area frequently and was so happy that they have opened up this hotel. We have stayed in numerous hotels in Merrillville, but nothing felt comfortable and safe anymore. We started driving a little further away to Fair Oaks...nothing wrong with that place, but quite a drive. Hampton Inns Rooms are nice, clean. Beds comfortable. Pleasant scent when you walk in room. Staff was very friendly. I think this will be our #1 choice for all future stays in NWI. read more

We have always been loyal to the Hilton properties. We are diamond members for life which shows our loyalty. We were staying at this hotel awaiting the arrival of our new grandson and it will be today. We called into the front desk last night and said we needed to extend our stay as we've been here for a week already and finally the baby is coming! The girl told us because it was a combination of points and money she didn't know how to do the reservation so we would have to call back in the morning as there would be no issues with occupancy. When we went to the front desk this morning to just make a normal reservation and pay cash we were told we would have to move for one night and then back into our regular room from now on. We have been there for a week and we are settled in with snacks and all of our personal stuff all over on top of going back-and-forth to the hospital today. Why be loyal to a company when this is how one of their franchisees treat their loyal members. read more
