Utica Hampton Inn has lost that loving feeling. The Good: There was plenty of parking. There were enough towels in the room for a family of four. The Bad: We checked in on a Friday between 5-6 and the staff was not welcoming. They were just "going through the motions" and there was no joy in their work. When we made our way to the room, it was obviously well used and not as clean as we are used to when staying at a Hampton Inn. The carpet was "tired" and looked like it could use a good cleaning. There were smudges on the mirrors, paint peeling from the ceiling in the shower, and a giant cobweb hanging down over the sink in the bathroom. The ugly: Two of the bed pillows (out of 8) where very well loved and did not have any life/support left in them so we called the front desk to get them replaced. The agent we spoke with stated that they do not deliver to the room so we needed to come to the front desk to get replacement pillows. So when I took the pillows to the front desk, I genuinely felt that I was inconveniencing the staff. When I described why I was turning the pillows in, I watched as the staff member that I handed the pillows to openly mocked me as she described my concerns to a fellow staff member. He is so open and friendly and answers any questions you might have!! He meets the perfect requirements for the first person you meet when you come to a hotel. I highly recommend this hotel!!!!! Stayed here for the night on our way to the Finger Lakes. Overall we had a very nice stay. The hotel is nothing spectacular but they were very friendly and prompt at check in, and their COVID 19 measures were excellent...... my wife and I felt very comfortable that they were taking every precaution necessary. We did miss the complimentary breakfast but that was not their fault. They did offer a limited breakfast to go bag which we was a nice gesture. Filthy filthy filthy and there are roaches and dried up bugs on the blinds. The girl was sooo nice and immediately told us to head over to the Home 2 which we did. The poor guy looked like he had 2 heads and said sorry we are sold out!!!! WHAT!?!? I immediately called this Hampton inn and they said oh so sorry there was a misunderstanding and said to go to the double tree. We are loyal Hilton brand customers which is why we chose this hotel. We made a last minute reservation due to a family health emergency and had to extend our stay for a week due to a death in the family. The front desk staff were efficient, attentive and kind. The breakfast was good with nice variety each day. Unfortunately, this hotel is poorly managed. When my husband spoke to manager about a possible extended stay discount due to the circumstances, the manager didn't listen to what my husband was saying and was unsympathetic. We would have understood his inability to give us a break on the cost but his lack of listening and attitude was disappointing. Another time we asked him for a roll of toilet paper and he made it clear we were really putting him out that he had to go and get us a roll of toilet paper. The cleanliness of the room was questionable... there was a spider in the shower and blood on the wall. We took care of these ourselves with little effort. We asked for the room to be cleaned after two days and we received clean towels and the bed was made that was it. Later in the week we requested a cleaning and nothing was done. The front desk staff gave us sheets and towels in a rolling basket and told us to leave it in the hall. We left the basket in the hall with dirty towels and our trash and it sat there for two days. We had a future reservation for this hotel and canceled it despite our brand royalty. There are too many other choices in the area to tolerate the poor management and lack of cleanliness. read more

I enjoyed my one night stay. The girls at front desk were warm and friendly. I was allowed to check in early and check out late so I thank the Hampton Inn for being so accommodating. The room was super clean and the sheets were nice and soft. Not sure what else you can ask from a hotel. Excellent stay at Hampton Inn, Utica. Was greeted immediately upon entrance. Front desk attendant was helpful and friendly. Check in was a breeze. Room was clean, comfortable and so spacious. Bed was comfortable and easy to catch up on your Zzz Breakfast was lovely, delicious and plentiful. Something for everyone. Two things that are super minor, one, entrance is not 100% clear. Hotel does share an entrance with Denny's parking area. Two, hotel only has 1 elevator. There are 3 floors on this property. Didn't have much trouble waiting for a elevator, still in the summer, I can't imagine the wait. Overall hotel staff was so friendly. Property it self was great with an indoor pool, fitness center and plenty of parking. read more

The good news is that the room and beds were nice. The bad news is that the check in process was alike talking to a robot. The associate delivered her spiel without ever looking up from the desk. More bad news - breakfast service- none of the electrical services were working and no one knew why. There was no coffee and the coffee station was dirty. This has been my home away from home while training for work. Each time I have stayed, no matter the time of day, all staff members have been super welcoming! Love every bit of this place, the beds are comfy, rooms are clean. Water bottle given upon check-in, along with the always available cookies, warm treat such as chili or soup, and coffee bar. I was just on the road for 4 hours, and when I walked into the hotel the front desk gent was so friendly and spiffy, that the stress of the day just started to kinda fall away. (Dorky, but true.) When I opened the door to my room, I breathed an audible sigh of relief... the room is beautiful, so amazingly comfortable, and was laid out by someone who isn't a moron. Hooray for the architect/interior designer who finally figured out that people want convenient outlets by the nightstand to plug in their phone without having to climb under and behind the dang bed. Rejoice! Microwave, not-so-mini fridge and coffeemaker are clean and good, the bathroom is immaculate, and everything is just so dang welcoming. Good ventilation, enthusiastic and quiet heater/AC unit, lovely furniture, everything sparkling clean. I am such a happy camper. Seriously. The only thing that would make this better is if Steven Page from Barenaked Ladies were here and wanting to cuddle. read more

I've stayed in just about all the hotels on this strip in Utica. The Hampton and the new one behind the steakhouse are by far the nicest as far a amenities go. The Hampton has round the clock coffee, tea, snacks. Free movies, free WiFi, things that make this a great place to stay. The price is a bit high, not understanding the prices of hotels in Utica, City prices for a city that once was. Your experience may be different but I found it very comfortable, clean, quiet. The reason for 3 stars in my opinion? It shares a parking lot with a Denny's. A 24 hour Denny's, I'm sure if you are snug in your bed at 2 or 3 am, you won't notice. But if you are coming back to your room, you might see things you never thought possible going on in that parking lot, nice criminal vibe going on. The other negative from my experience was the fact that after being there for three day, I realized my door was not latching. After a trip to the front desk where I was told, "This happens to a lot of our rooms every time the weather changes." It wasn't comforting, but they did move me to another room across the hall but this problem made me late for my appointment. read more

I do not have one bad thing to say about this hotel. The staff was very friendly. The room was spotless. The beds were comfortable. It was quiet. The bathroom was spacious. Water pressure was good. The breakfast was solid. We ordered pizza for dinner, and I called down to the desk to see if they had any plates we could use. They did and had them waiting when I got downstairs. They also always have fresh fruit out. There were also pastries just sitting around, waiting to be eaten. Sounds good to me. This hotel doesn't allow residents of Utica book rooms and my bf and I don't reside in Utica but our IDs say otherwise since we didn't renew and we were not able to stay in the room we booked. Expedia would not refund us our money since it was not 24 hour within letting us know. On top of that they were very very rude. I will always stay here whenever I return to the Utica area! I read all of the the great reviews on every site about this place, but they still exceeded my expectations! As soon as we arrived we were greeted and checked in early with no fuss. They gave my toddle a goody bag full of treats, a juicebox and fruit cup. The room was spotless! They even wrote a note indicating the bedding was just changed and it was clean. The bed was very confortable They even had a delicious chicken noodle soup with a delicious humus with Pita bread as the appetizer for that evening. They topped it off with a delicious dessert. The breakfast had so many options and was really good! This is the best Hilton brand hotel I've ever stayed at! They should be the model for all hotels! We got free movies from the front desk, free popcorn, free bottled water, etc and everything was accessible 24hrs/ day. I've never been to a Hampton Inn or any Hilton hotel that feeds you for free all day long with good tasing quality food! The service here is impeccable!!! They weren't overpriced, a great value for all the services offered. I highly recommend staying here! Cons: The walls are very thin s you can hear noises from the other rooms. Overall it was quiet thourghout the night for sleeping. The shower head was stuck facing in an akward direction and the water pressure was too high, however the bathroom was clean! read more

I have never experienced such terrible customer service in any hotel I have ever stayed in. Despite having made a reservation that I showed to her on email, the front desk clerk would not honor it and could not have been less concerned about the problem. She said she did not have any rooms available despite clear evidence that I had booked a room. The icing on the cake was her rude manner of speaking in a horribly high-pitched and loud voice. After driving for hours on my way to a funeral and being exhausted, I had to leave and find another hotel. She never apologized, tried to find a solution, or provided help in any way. Any competent employee would have been on the phone immediately to a manager or at the very least called another hotel in the area on my behalf. She did absolutely nothing. In addition, I witnessed her saying other guests' names and room numbers out loud--which should NEVER be done in a hotel for safety reasons. Her voice was so loud everyone in the lobby could hear the private information. All in all, this was a horrible experience that portrays Hampton Inn in a very poor light. On the upside, I found a Fairfield Inn by Marriott nearby and the clerk there was the polar opposite of the Hampton Inn clerk in terms of attitude and competency. I highly recommend that hotel instead. read more

Have you ever been stuck on 90 for hooooooours and realized you just have to bail and go to sleep? And then you show up at a nearby hotel and it is an oasis of comfort? That was my experience at the Hampton Inn. We'd been in the car for 8 hours, gone about 200 miles (argggghhhhh the 1-87 interchange on the Pike!) and the kids screamed for hours. I called to reserve a room and the person on the other end was so kind. When we arrived, he had gift bags for the kids and a pack and play for the little one. Our room was clean and fully stocked. Even the room temp was welcoming! We collapsed into bed and slept very well - never heard any of the other guests. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and we enjoyed all the great food choices. The staff were again extremely friendly and gave the kids even more gift bags! We had expected to feel waylaid by the need to stop overnight and instead it was like a wonderful treat for our family! I am not sure I've had a better hotel experience. I honestly want to stop here again the next time we make the trek to the in-laws! I mean, we never even got to use the pool or watch one of the 200 films available! I realize this sounds insane, but you have to see it to believe it. This place is terrific. read more

As a Hilton honors member I aspect more. Nice lady at front desk was answering many phone calls during check in time with your hands and feet. Had no help but was nice about it. My room was another story...ac unit rattled pretty bad, clock was off two hrs with no way to change it and I had a major ant issue to boot! Made call to front desk and they moved me across hall but I had to go get new key. New room had a clock but it did not display time. Called front desk but it was never rectified. Awesome bed. 24 hr coffee which is a must. But a lot of small children running from the pool area to the self serve coffee bar to help themselves to hot chocolate... Leaving large puddles of water everywhere on the tile floors. I am on a cane do it made for a scary walk. There were no apparent parents anywhere for these children and I am finding that more often than I would like at hotels where I travel. For a mid-priced hotel, you can't beat this one. They often a decent serve yourself breakfast, including cold cereals, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, breakfast sausages and great make your own waffles. There are snacks at night, including cookies and often cheese or excellent baklava. They even have a "to go" bag with water, fruit and a fruit bar. But what I really love at the Utica location is the staff. Everyone from housekeeping staff to front desk personnel is extremely friendly. This is apparently a very well managed property. We've been here a few times while visiting family and will make it "our place" in the future. read more

The front desk was kind, helpful and gave my daughter a "treat" bag full of fairly healthy snacks that kept her going for the next 2 days of the drive. They also gave us water bottles and popcorn. I travel a lot all over the East Coast and I frequently choose to stay at a Hilton Hampton Inn. After traveling approx. 8 hours from Pennsylvania, this past weekend, my Sister and I arrived at the Hampton. Needless to say, exhausted. Our first and permanent reaction is as follows: The Utica Hampton Inn is absolutely the Very BEST Hampton Inn we have ever stayed in. The staff is cordial, courteous and extremely professional. The food service is Extraordinary. Breakfast was wonderful and the early evening extra food was just Fabulous. We can't wait to bring our Husbands. My favorite part about my stay was the comfortable bed and the pillows. I had more pillows than I needed and had to remove a couple. I cannot say enough about this hotel. After 2 hours of being stuck on the throughway, we were forced off into Utica. We were traveling with a 7 month old baby who was tired, hungry, and cranky. After pulling in and out of the parking lots of some scary looking motels, we pulled into the Hampton Inn. Immediately, we felt like we could stay there for days. The lobby was clean, warm, and welcoming with an array of cured meats, cheese and crackers, as well as soup and a coffee and tea bar with cookies and brownies. The girl working at the front desk took pity on us and gave us a weekend rate. She also was very kind to my tired son and found him some toys. She got us a room right on the first floor so we wouldn't have to lug baby and his belongings up the stairs and even though it was right off of the lobby, it was really quiet. Bed was warm, clean, and comfy. Wifi was free. Staff was super-helpful and kind to us. I can honestly say it was the best night sleep I had had in weeks. The morning staff were just as kind and helpful. Everyone wanted to talk to the baby. The breakfast was good with an abundance of choices - waffles, cereal, lots of fruit, yogurt, granola, pastries, oatmeal, omelets, meat and potatoes, etc. There was also breakfast to go for those up before breakfast was ready and we were able to take a bag for the ride - fruit, cereal bar, bottled water, muffin. As someone pointed out to me, it costs them very little to do the extra niceities and it means the world to the customers. They have my loyalty now. If every Hampton Inn is as good as this one, I will look for them first when I travel. But aside from the amenities, the cleanliness, the extras, it was the staff that made this stay worth talking about. I am so glad we chose this place to stay the night. I have never met friendlier staff anywhere else. They were always smiling and so friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and quite large. The bed, very comfortable! Breakfast in the morning had a wide array of selection, both hot and cold choices. The location is very conveniant, right off the interstate. As a long time fan and HHonors member, I have to say there is something quite troubling about this location when it comes to customer service in general and service to the disabled in particular. I called to book two reservations for my family (son will be attending a nearby college and we'll be traveling to Utica area regularly in the near future), including my teenage daughter who is in a wheelchair and needs to utilize an accessible shower. I spoke to--I assume-- the front desk clerk on duty, a new employee who tried heroically to help me. She did not know about the makeup of handicap accessible rooms and kept putting me on hold (apologizing profusely) to go ask someone in the office. This happened about four times. My question was very simple: are there rooms with a shower bench and a flexible shower hose--standard stuff. She could not get an answer, so I gave up and called the nearby Holiday Inn Express which handled the transaction crisply and quickly (and, I might add, with sensitivity). As someone who has worked in retail and in jobs where customer service is paramount, I could only imagine this poor young woman putting me on hold while she interrupted a manager sitting in the office playing on his phone, irritated by his new clerk's constant questions. At some point, wouldn't you think a manager might say "Let me talk to him, I know how to address this"?". The clerk seemed totally embarrassed by the treatment I was getting and kept apologizing. I felt bad for her. I've never been treated by a Hampton Inn like this and while it won't stop me from staying in another location, Utica is Holiday Inn Express territory from now on. This location is a no-go for anyone needing sensitivity and service for disability issues. read more
