Second time staying here multiple nights. This beautiful (interior) hotel is conveniently located downtown within easy walking distance from the sports complex (professional and collegiate), the historic Stanley Theater / concert hall, and many great restaurants and bars. The area felt safe even at night. The king room we had was spacious, clean and well appointed. Our only issues with the room was the bed was a bit lumpy and unsupportive and the toilet paper was the thinnest and hardest paper available. Service at the front desk was friendly and efficient. We'll certainly consider staying here again next time we visit Utica. read more

Room is fine and big. AC worked pretty good compared to most hotels. Very old hotel but kept up nice. Staff was friendly. My low score isn't much about the hotel but its location. I was walking right outside of the hotel FaceTiming my family. I began to be followed and yelled at by a homeless man who started to threaten me thinking I was taking his picture. Initially I didn't care much as I've travelled quite a bit but he began to cross the street coming towards me becoming more threatening. Eventually he left. The area looks fairly abandoned. Tons of homeless near the local bus station. Unfortunate problem for the hotel. The national guard is also staying there working at a local prison due to staffing issues at local prisons. Probably won't stay in that area again. read more

First thing I have to point out is the amazing interior upon stepping into the lobby. This used to be Hotel Utica, which hosted one of the presidents and then got the Hilton flag in more present day. A lot of graduates at the time we staying were getting their photos taken in the lobby and there was a wedding party being hosted in their event space. We stayed for one night for another wedding not hosted in this hotel, but was in a convenient spot to get to our destination. The complementary parking was a nice perk to have and concierge is very friendly. No issues with our room and the entire stay was smooth sailing. read more

Historic Charm with a Few Quirks I'm a bit confused because I swear I already reviewed this place, but maybe it didn't save? Anyway, here's my take: The DoubleTree by Hilton Utica (formerly known as and sometimes referred to as Hotel Utica) has a nice, classic look, both inside and out. Built in 1912, the hotel has a storied past and has been well taken care of since its restoration. The lobby features impressive woodwork and chandeliers that add to the grand, historic vibe of the place. It's easy to see why this building has been a staple of the city for over a century. Parking is convenient, and the location is great--close to other businesses and with easy access to major roads, making it simple to get in and out of the city quickly. My room had a unique layout, but it was so spacious that it didn't matter. I had plenty of room to spread out, which was a nice surprise. A couple of things worth noting: I wasn't sure if the restaurant was open for breakfast, even though it was supposed to be. A little more clarity or signage on that would've been helpful. The elevators were a bit slow, and it was a bit of a letdown that you can't go to the top floor. As for the hotel's folklore, Hotel Utica is famously haunted, particularly around the mezzanine level of the lobby. One of the most well-known stories is that of Charlie, a former bellhop who worked at the hotel in its early years. Charlie passed away at the hotel, and it's believed that his spirit never left. Guests and staff have reported strange occurrences, especially on the mezzanine part of the lobby, such as flickering lights, sudden cold spots, and even the sensation of being lightly tapped on the shoulder--only to turn around and find no one there. Some guests claim to have seen Charlie himself, wandering the mezzanine in his old-fashioned bellhop uniform late at night. Whether or not you believe in ghosts, it's certainly a unique piece of the hotel's history and character. Overall, it's a solid choice with a few small quirks, but the history, charm, and local folklore make it a memorable stay. Lobby is beautiful and our room was huge and well-appointed. I like the Crabtree and Evelyn toiletry dispensers in the bathroom and the warm cookies on arrival are always appreciated. A few pet peeves: 1. I should have done the check in digitally the night before arrival. I'd reserved a room with two queens because I was travelling with a friend. I'd rejected offers to "upgrade" to a king suite for $12 because we wanted the 2 beds. We arrived at 6pm to find we'd been "upgraded" anyway and the hotel was full so we couldn't have two beds. It was annoying, but not a deal breaker because there was a pull out. 2. Though it was cold outside, it was too warm in the room. No way to open the windows, so we turned on the AC. It would run for a few minutes then crap out. Instructions to reboot above the thermostat made it seem like a consistent problem. Followed the instructions, got it working only to have the same thing happen again and again. read more

Stayed here this past weekend with friends for a local hockey game. The interiors are beautiful and the rooms are updated and sleek. The service was phenomenal by front desk staff. They recommended Swifty's bar which we ended up at more than once and thoroughly enjoyed. There's ample parking in their attached outdoor lot with many entrances for optimal convenience. They had their famous warm chocolate chip cookies! There's a bar/restaurant in the lobby but when we went they didn't open until 5pm, closed early in the evening and were closed the next day, so hit or miss. All in all I would definitely recommend this spot and would return! read more

A very beautiful facility. The good ends there. Maids do not replenish coffee and supplies. The bar is expensive and the barmaid seemed inexperienced (tried to put the rocks and drink into an up glass?) until I corrected her. Seems the breakfast room was closed because the breakfast room person was on vacation. Also, there is a $15 person credit available per day, per guest. When I charged my drinks to a credit card instead of the room, I lost that privilege (apparently). Matt at front desk, (very nice, very capable) said I should call the manager, Sue and she should be able to resolve this, and get me the credit). Sue however does not come in until 2:00 pm, (at least on the two days we were there). I then tried to call her three times in subsequent days to speak to this matter. She never called me back or answered my E-Mail. Nonsense. Too many other good Hiltons in the area. We are Hilton Diamond status also read more

Tuesday, June 7 to Friday, June 10, 2022 Business trip. This is a beautiful Hilton property. It's clean and very well-maintained. The room (804) was clean and well-maintained. Free outdoor parking is available on the property. All of the employees, except for one, were very friendly, professional, and helpful. I had a very bizarre interaction with one of the employees. I made a manager aware of the experience and I hope she will follow-up with the employee. I'm hopeful that the experience I had with that employee was a misunderstanding on my part, but I don't think it was. Unfortunately, the manager did not ask for my name or contact information so she could follow-up with me and no points were offered either. I probably won't return to this Hilton property again. read more

When it comes to Utica, NY this is probably one of the best options. It's newly remodeled and looks really swanky. The rooms are clean, sharp and comfortable. They aren't overly spacious but certainly big enough. They also have their own parking lot with plenty of space. It's located in the heart of downtown and the surrounding neighborhood could certainly use a new coat of paint so to speak. But it's fine. You have drinking and dining options within walking distance. And if that doesn't suit then they have a restaurant/bar which works just fine. I found it to be a very comfortable place to spend the night. read more

Welp when you get relocated due to roaches, i guess it has to be better than we were. We were originally booked at the hampton inn but our stay was cut short due to filth and roaches. After hampton inn relocating us to a second hotel which ended up being overbooked they finally found us a room here....We were in a queen suite which was huge but still not completely up to par with what i know is Hilton standard. The bathroom floor was dirty and the shower was as well. There was disgusting substances on most of the counter tops and nightstands which we cleaned with our own wipes, hair in the sink, and stuff left in the drawers. AC wouldn't cycle at night so the room was at 76 in the morning. I'm still not understanding the gym inside the room but hey whatever floats your boat. Do better Hilton-you have signs everywhere about cleanliness but didn't see that being executed. What a beautiful hotel with lots of charm! The lobby is stunning with some of the most gorgeous chandeliers. I'm here for work and decided to stay downtown. There are a ton of restaurants within walking distance. I did eat at the hotel restaurant and really enjoyed my meal. I have one of the suites and it is very spacious and clean. My only complaint it that there is only one small window and the bathroom needs more lighting. Other than that, I have loved my stay so far. The staff has been kind and everything is sparkling. read more

We recently held a family event at the Hotel Utica, specifically in the Saranac Room, and it fantastic! From the planning stages through to the actual event, Rachel and Rose were great. And, in particular, Yami was a joy to work with--I don't think her smile ever left her face. Ours was a a trio of family birthdays--too big for one house but not as large as a typical wedding. Enjoyed our stay here. The lobby is beautiful and has great seating Staff was friendly and helpful. Hilton's offer of coffee and cookies is always fun. Our king room was large. Very comfortable. Bathrooms were also a nice size. Carpets throughout are older and need updating. The halls are a bit dated because of this. The in house restaurant on site was great. Hotel itself was great. The bar service, however, was atrocious. Yes, it was NYE, but even so, the bartenders were not attentive to who was at the bar and who had ordered drinks. Someone who was supposedly a Manager was trying to help but she appeared to be more in the way not. Bar didn't have olive juice - um, what hotel bar with a restaurant doesn't have a jar of olives in their pantry???? Also, if you advertise you open at 4, then be open with a bartender at 4. Guests shouldn't have to go to the front desk and ask where the bartender is. Closing shortly after midnight on NYE, with guests being the only ones allowed in the hotel, is ridiculous. The hotel bar/lounge at the Doubletree needs some new bartenders and definitely needs better management. read more

I've always wanted to stay in this hotel. I'm originally from this city and was back in town with my family for a visit. The locals call it the Hotel Utica, because that's what is was called for a century. We had a corner room (708) with two beds. It was very spacious with lots of windows. The beds were comfortable. The room was very clean. The lobby is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. I would definitely stay here again!! read more

The Grand Lobby is certainly that - Grand but upon further inspection the furniture is dented scared and thread bear, the tile floor should be removed as it is way past its life. Reception at the front desk was very unprofessional when I first arrived and had to wait an hour in the lobby before check in. The layout of the room is ok but glass tube TV! Seriously this needs to be upgraded there absolutely no patina effect from this dinosaur Overall the room was clean but the chair at the office desk was worse than my oldman's Lazy Boy recliner. Seeing heavily worn armrests tells me there's no attention to detail and no money in their budget for repairs or upgrades. Overall the staff that I interfaced with were not very professional not only in demeanour but also dress. Again a lack of attention to this type of detail does not bode well for the success of this Hotel. At best this is a budget priced hotel desperately clinging to a wonderful and historic past. read more

Hotel Utica is the Grand Dame of the city. The two-story Lobby has beautiful green-veined marble pillars. The restaurant, which was already impressive, is being remodeled. However, there are several good places to eat within easy walking distance. The rooms are large and new. Hopefully they will have flat-screen TVs soon. As a mildly handicapped senior I was disappointed to see that there was not a single grab iron in the bathtub. The tub's base was also slick. Still, Beverly and I fell in love with the place and we will be back. read more

I would say 2/10 interactions were positive the rest involved eye rolls, them making up excuses, or just straight up not caring and making it quite clear by going to hang out with one another while they're on the clock. Again stop there for a stay but definitely consider hosting dinners, ceremonies, weddings, etc elsewhere. Update- was here for a wedding hosted at the venue. read more

YOU WILL NOT BE SAFE HERE. I am a Hilton Diamond member and they gave 0 cares about my safety, so NOONE IS SAFE HERE. They will give out any key to anyone as long as they have your room number and last name. It took SEVEN PHONE CALLS to tell them to make sure someone had ID before they got a key to my room. And after that, I had to do it ALL OVER AGAIN at shift change. Even then, I barricaded my door with every moveable moveable piece of furniture. Stay somewhere else. Nothing is more important than your safety, and these people seriously couldn't care less. read more

I take regular yearly trips from my home near Chicago to New England and, while Utica is certainly a long haul on day 1, I put myself through that for one reason... HOTEL UTICA! What a sensation when you walk through the doors of this beautiful structure built in 1912. You feel as though you entered some kind of a time tunnel and went back to the 1920's. The lobby is nothing short of spectacular with its high ceilings and open 2nd level mezzanine and furnishings right out of that 20's era, including a beautifully restored old grand piano. Two years and $13 Million dollars later, the hotel was beautifully restored in 2001 from near ruin to it's present beautiful state. What a shame it would have been to have it fall victim to the wrecking ball! It has a colorful and famous past and boasts such celebrity overnight guests as former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Mickey Mantle, Judy Garland, Bobby Darin and Mae West. The rooms are nicely appointed and yet very reasonably priced. The city of Utica has seen better days to be sure but what a gem they have that sits squarely in the center of downtown. If I had any complaints at all, the area the hotel sits in is not the greatest. I would not recommend wandering around outdoors after dark. The staff is courteous, but not plentiful so patience would be a good thing to bring with you. The hotel also has a very nice bar (Lamplighter Pub) just off the lobby that also serves up some very good food. Your stay will also include a free ticket for their hot breakfast buffet which is sure to please. If you're traveling across upstate New York and are looking for a real treat, Hotel Utica is a must see. I'll be there next week as I leave for New England on vacation and I can't wait to visit Hotel Utica again. read more

I've tried to support the Hotel Utica but this last trip was my last. It all started at check in when I jumped 5 feet because there was a MOUSE at my feet! I assumed it was dead but it wasn't!! I didn't want to even stay after that but we had no place to go. Our room was on the 8th floor, our first up there. The room was just gross. Maybe I was thrown off by the MOUSE!! Hotel Utica was our little surprise as a 3 star offering in Utica from Hotwire. We were looking for the address of the Clarion Hotel (the name it is called on HW). we drove by two times to confirm the address as it is misnamed or has it's original name without any reference to the Clarion. After entering the unlit parking lot in a sketchy neighborhood and asking an employee on the steps having a smoke, we found we were at our destination. It is the front end of hopefully the rennaissance of this formerly lovely hotel , but they have missed major two star touch points-- and the service is good though the hotel is scantily staffed. There is no food offered after 8:30 p.m.--so any traveller who misses the window is out of luck. We were disappointed and felt over charged and misled. read more

Finally after pulling up to this gray little town after a 10+ hour road trip from Indiana to see a wedding, we come into this parking lot. At first, I didn't really know what to think, because there was a man digging around in the dumpsters (which I don't have a problem with) just staring us down as he can tell that we were not from there (which was the odd feeling I had). However, I get it. We do that kind of stuff here in these parts of the country, so what can you do. After thinking where in the hell are we, I had to run in as fast as I can to use the bathroom. However, when I came out of the bathroom I realized that this hotel is absolutely gorgeous on the inside. It almost has an eerie feeling, because you can tell it's historic and everything looks so pristine and staged. It has a "tower of terror" kind of feel to it, but I think that adds to it's charm. We get up to our "Mickey Mantle" suite and my friend and I were just awed by the view. It was amazing. I wish we had more money and didn't have to go to that wedding, because I would have loved to do some more exploring around Utica to see what kind of possibilities could have happened there. We loved that the elevator didn't have a 13th floor. It's like something you see in the movies. The staff for the most part were pretty friendly. After we came back from the wedding, my friend and I were looking for some fun on a budget, so we were going to go to a liquor store and buy a bottle before hitting up some bars. So the staff gave me some suggestions of places to go. However, it turns out that I think New York must have some odd law that you can't buy liquor from a liquor store after 9 p.m. or something and it was even weirder that their WALMART of all places didn't sell liquor. That's beyond the point though. We gave up and decided to just watch tv and go to bed, because we had a long drive the next day anyway. The bed itself was a pretty comfortable king sized bed just enough space for my friend and I to be able to sleep on opposite sides of the bed and just chill out. We got up for the continental breakfast. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I thought they could have definitely used some more meatier options like bacon, sausage links or something instead of that potato hash and waffles. However, what can you do? I would recommend this place for someone to stay if you think about traveling to Utica for any particular reason. read more

I sent one night here for work in late April. The parking was a little confusing, but we figured it out. This hotel was completed in 1912, and I loved the old style, ornate lobby and first floor restaurant/bar. The check in process went very smoothly, and I was very happy to discover that they upgraded me to a suite! I was in a king bed suite with a living room/dining area and a jacuzzi tub. The room was a little dated, but in very good shape. My coworker ended up in a regular king room, and her room was rather large and also in good shape. If you have to come to Utica, I would definitely recommend this hotel. We also decided that we wanted to stay in to eat, and we were also very happy with the restaurant. We both ordered the shrimp po-boys, and they were both delicious! We also ordered a couple of drinks, which were strong and very generous for the price. read more

First off, this hotel is beautiful, and I had no complaints, expect one big thing: recycling. The hotel advertises that it is an eco friendly hotel, with recycling bins in each suite. However, upon arrival we asked the front desk and they informed us that they do NOT recycle. At all. We were very upset to hear that all the recycled goods we had put in our "recycling bin" that week was actually going straight to the trash. This is irresponsible, and unacceptable. It's 2019. I love the updated decorative changes to this historic hotel. The restored antique lights, trim and windows make for a romantic stay. The staff is friendly and cooperative and the amenities are comfortable. I enjoy staying here when we visit Utica and appreciate all that goes into keeping this grand landmark going. The back parking lot is now paved and fenced. Parking is also free. There is a new entry ramp to make it easy to enter the back with roller suitcases or a wheel chair. We enjoyed the fresh breakfast buffet and the complimentary cookies, too. read more

The staff quickly helped me with whatever I needed. It was clean, had all standard hotel things in the room with no extra cost. Loved the historical aspect of the hotel. The lobby was absolutely stunning, I wish I could have explored the hotel more. Would definitely come back if I'm ever in Utica again. And to the people complaining about the outdated furniture, YOU'RE STAYING IN A HISTORICAL HOTEL. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?! Appreciate the timeless decor that throws you back into the early 1900's.
