We had the privilege of being invited to an event in DC and needed to stay walking distance to the White House due to clothes/shoes/weather/time. This hotel is an 8 min walk to the White House. We arrived late on a Sunday and they have valet parking ($70/night). You could park yourself in a lot right across the street for only $30 but who knew? The room was small with 1 king bed, desk, ottoman type "chair/stool" BUT! It met our needs. The bathroom was spacious and the water was hot. It had a closet for our coats and a hallway which we utilized for luggage. The free coffee was Godsend and the free breakfast 6am-10am was perfect! Cereal, breads, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, sausage patties, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, waffles, juice and probably more. They had a lot of of options for even picky eaters. The buffet was clean and well stocked. When we came back from our event, we were harried to check out but the front desk staff was patience and gracious. We were able to sit in the nice lobby, with free wifi, and have a hot coffee. I highly recommend this hotel for its location, amenities and excellent customer service. read more

10/10 location This was my first time to DC and this hotels location was great! Convenient for walking but also close to the metro. The breakfast was okay, honestly a benefit of staying at a Hampton hotel. I was unfortunately quite disappointed by the manager and our room. The ac unit only goes down to 68°- great HOWEVER ours was broken and management refused to help. Our room was 82°. I texted the hotline and they said okay- when we returned to the room it was still unbearable!! I reported this to the gentleman at the desk and he said "well there's nothing I can do about it" turns out he's the general manager. Absolutely disappointing and horrible customer service. We had also requested extra towels and pillows to be put in our room during housekeeping over the text which was confirmed but never followed through. The general manager tried to gaslight me saying it already had been done but it was not and he wouldn't listen without me getting frustrated. 0/10 for customer service for the manager. Maya- another employee 10/10 very kind and polite- we didn't experience her assistance until we were leaving but she was more helpful than anyone else the whole stay. read more

The location of this hotel is amazing. You're in walking distance of so many things. There's even a McDonald's around the corner for a late night snack. The staff was super friendly and I was able to check in early when I arrived super early in the morning. I stayed here for about a week and had no issues. I love the variety of our breakfast options for all types of eaters. The beds were super comfy along with the pillows. I would totally stay here again. read more

This was a little tricky to review as I was teetering between 3/4 stars: The Good: -99% (the 1% being the ice queen who checked me out this morning) of the front desk staff are gems. They gave me all the bottled water i could ever ask for and were very friendly. - the breakfast is a nice array of items such as made to order waffles, hot breakfast items, cereal fruit etc. what they didn't offer were items I could eat (i have an egg allergy and was not going to resort to shelf stable bagels every day for a week). I would love to see plain Greek yogurt next time, but I also was happy there was a Panera and Starbucks super close by. - The room was a nice size for one person, as DC hotel rooms are notoriously small. - The downtown location worried me but I thought the street was quieter than most, lots of options for dining and a stones throw from the White House was great. What I didn't love: - The worst hotel pillows I've ever had in my life. They were paper thin and made sleeping impossible (I definitely did not leave well rested and refreshed). - Housekeeping is not great. They visited once during my 6 night stay and reused a dirty floor mat in my bathroom. Both of my trash cans were overflowing when I left. There was also a mildew smell in the bathroom when I arrived. - Water pressure in the room was not the best. - My view was likely into an office window or someone's home. I was in room 609 in the back of the building so it was quiet but my blinds were closed all the time. - A friend stayed on the 5th floor last week and her room flooded. They have mold here, which I'm highly allergic to and spent most of my trip not feeling well. Returning to this hotel is a hard maybe, I prefer other DC neighborhoods but really did appreciate the kindness of the staff at this location. read more

The staff is top notch! They are very accommodating in an old building (the history of the building is actually on the walls of the lobby)! They do their best to accommodate the accessibility needs of their guest and even check in with you during your stay to ensure your needs are met which I found very sweet! The room was small but accessible but the bathroom was too small and very dated. Need iodating desperately. The mirror was even broken. The breakfast is adequate and since this is in Wash DC everything is close or a short ride away. Sadly DC doesn't have any real accessible taxis except Yellow cab but that is a whole other review. I experienced a comfortable stay. Location is very convenient, a five minute walk from the Farragut subway station (which I used to get to Dulles Airport). It is also a ten to fifteen minute walk to Lafayette Park, which is due north of the White House. Our room was updated and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was OK (I did not expect more), the staff struggled to keep up with demand for coffee in the morning. I would, and have, recommended this Hampton Inn to others! read more

This hotel is conveniently located near the convention center, the Capitol, Chinatown and lots of restaurants. The valet parking seems a bit unorganized. There wasn't enough help to park when I was there. Union Station and Chinatown/ Gallery Place Metro are nearby. Safeway and 7-11 are a few blocks away. The Portrait Gallery and Capital One arena are in the area. Arena Stage, Warner Theatre, National Theater and Ford's Theater are close by. There is a lot to do in this area. I would book directly with the hotel instead of a third party web site. If you have any issues during your stay, it is easier getting resolution. read more

This is a great place to stay in DC especially if you are travelling with kids. I went to DC earlier this year for work and knew I had to come back with the kids. This was my first vacation in more than four years so I wanted to find a place that was affordable but also convenient to what we wanted to see. Hampton fit the bill perfectly. The Room - I didn't plan on spending much time here but with two girls you need some space. The room was large and had room to maneuver despite having two queen beds. The beds were comfortable and the climate control worked well. Considering it got to 18 degrees when we were there, we needed some heat! Thankfully we were warm and comfy inside. The bathroom was a typical hotel bathroom and was functional. The Breakfast - The breakfast was free and better than a typical hotel breakfast. The hotel was packed when we visited and that meant long lines and lots of people vying for breakfast. Despite that, the one breakfast staff person did an excellent job keeping things clean and stocked. There were two waffle makers, a large toaster and bread items, and a hot food bar. There were also many other things but you get the drift. If you stay here, eat here and you will save a ton on breakfast. Service - Rooms are cleaned every other day. I long for the days of daily cleaning that were the norm pre-covid. Since the room wasn't cleaned we needed to get new towels on day two. They delivered them which was nice but I sure wish they could have cleaned every day. The front desk during check-in was a little slow but again, the place was packed so it didn't bother me. Location - This hotel is within easy walking distance of the White House. It is also convenient for Uber to pick you up and bring you to the Capitol and National Mall. In December 2024 Uber was around $30 to and from the airport (DCA). Valet is around $55 a day so I think we were better without a rental car. If you are headed to DC, I encourage you to consider the Hampton for your stay. read more

Rooms are cleaned every other day; this only caused a problem when I returned to find my room wasn't cleaned before 3pm. My biggest problem was an elevator that had a loud shake going past the 8th floor. Not only did this cause concern, it could be heard in my room on the 9th floor while trying to sleep. read more

The hotel was close enough to the sights (White House, museums) for us to walk to but far enough for us to not feel over-stimulated. Service is non-existent from many of the staff. Front desk staff curt and dismissive and blame others for their own system issues. I had made a reservation via a 3rd party with confirmation of the room type, upon arrival was told that it was not what they received so was given what they had available, and not what I had clearly reserved. Though I clearly confirmed with the 3rd party, it was a guaranteed reservation, not a "based upon an availability", which I understand very well having booked plenty of hotel rooms using varied sources. Beyond the location a couple blocks from the White House, can't recommend this location. Only had 1 working elevator while I was there as they were changing out the mattresses in all rooms, which I can say was needed. Could feel some of the springs in the bed and it squeaked badly at anything more than a slight movement. Room was a bit on the smaller side, though it was fine for a night. If service is not a concern and you just need a place to sleep and want to be close to White House/National mall, then this might be a place for you. If you're looking to enjoy your hotel, I'd look elsewhere with the plethora of options in town. While management did eventually address the concerns, I wouldn't expect any meaningful change to the staff attitudes as having worked in customer service for years, some things you can teach. read more

In town for business, everything was just as expected. The rooms were clean. The beds were comfortable. I like that the TV worked. The showers were clean and worked well had nice hot water. I enjoyed having the breakfast in the morning and I liked the selection and everything was nice and hot very close proximity to business and so we were able to walk where we needed to go. read more

AC did not work Room does. It have a privacy shade to block the sun or the apartment neighbors from looking in. If you are into voyerism or sleeping in sunlight; this place is for you. Okay, so I travel a lot for business, and a significant portion of that is to DC. Having a place a little outside of downtown but within easy driving distance to federal offices is nice. This place is next to the National Arboretum, which gives it a little more tranquil feel. It's nothing fancy, but it's clean, they have a bar - WOOT! - and parking is only $10 per day. The last time I stayed at the Willard Hotel, parking as $70 per day. I'll save the $60 and go buy a half-off seafood platter at the Old Ebbitt. Yep, this place works just fine if you don't NEED to be in the middle of the action but want a comfortable bed and a clean room. read more

I've stayed in a lot of Hilton brand hotels and this is one of the better Hampton Inns. Excellent location for business or pleasure. My room was ample size for a downtown hotel although note it is solely two queen beds, a desk, small refrigerator with only a small sitting chair. Even though historic building, facility has been fully renovated. Windows appear sound proof and I had no sound issues like other reviews note. I did have portable AC but it worked really well. Recommend staying on floor seven or above as most lower floors face a wall (and avoid noise risk). Breakfast was standard Hampton Inn quality and they have nice breakfast area. Workers were all friendly and I had no issues. I'm a Hilton member so maybe that makes a difference since see others had issues. Gym and pool are smaller but adequate for hotel size (see video someone else took). read more

It's probably a 3.5 for me. This hotel was recommended for me when in town for work. There really isn't much of a loading area in front of the hotel. As soon as I walked in, I was like, holy weed smell. For most of my visits, I smelled weed all over the hotel. Lobby, gym floor, and my floor. Check-in was fine. I was told there would be a $50/nite hold on my card for incidentals to be refunded later. Breakfast was typical to any other Hampton Inn. One day, one of the staff was really helping people make waffles and carry food. I'm not sure if it was because there was a group of kids, but she was very patient and professional. I used the fitness center, and it was very spacious. Water cooler, towels, free weights, and cardio equipment. The hotel had a pool. It looked a little murky. I didn't see anyone in it the times I was at the fitness center. Room felt a little cramped. The pillows were awful. They were so squishy, and even when I used all 4, I couldn't get comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size. Handle for the faucet kept coming off. This hotel is within walking distance of the White House and the metro. read more

I enjoyed our five day stay at the hotel, until the last morning. Checkout wasn't until noon, so I spent my time having breakfast at a nearby restaurant and then I visited a jewelry store before returning to the hotel. Upon returning my room key stopped working and I wasn't able to use it on the elevator to get to my room. At the front desk, the male clerk checked our reservations and asked for my ID. He informed me since my husband booked the room, my name wasn't on the reservations. He said that they hadn't done anything to make the room key stop working. It had to be a building that I had visited that deactivated my card. He said I had to have my husband text him to verify that I was supposed to be in the room. I told him my husband was attending a conference and I wasn't certain that he would answer right away. I sat in the lobby for about 15 minutes waiting for my husband's response. My husband arrived at the hotel and discovered his room key had also stopped working. The same desk clerk asked him for his ID and gave him a new room key. Checkout time was at noon and this happened around 11:00 am. I will never stay at this Hampton Inn due to the inconvenience I experienced. read more

The worst hotel reservation I have ever made. Arrived on a Sunday night and I was ready to start my work day on Monday morning with a hot shower. No hot water! Freezing cold water not even a hint of warmth. Went down to get a hot breakfast and found omelets from a box, potatoes from a box, and pre- cooked Turkey sausage all in a heating plate. I went the oatmeal route. Coffee was lukewarm warm placed in heating container's. For four days the breakfast was the same the oatmeal was the safe pick. On the fifth day I decided to try making me a waffle. I tried pouring a cup of batter and it wouldn't come out? I asked the kitchen assistant for help she opened the top of the batter container and started to stir the thick liquid. It was not fresh I know that. Plan B grabbed a yogurt. I needed the safe and my safe kept saying battery low on reported it on Tuesday morning and it never was fixed. Now the worst part for me was on Thursday my sheets were changed and after a long day I went to bed and I awoke with my skin on fire and it was the sheets or detergent they used that didn't get ruined off right. I don't know what it was, but after that I couldn't go back to sleep and I needed that rest because Friday was an interview that was very important. Let's just say I was tired when that interview happened. On Saturday my airplane left at 5:30 in morning and I asked the front desk on Friday to reserve a taxi for me and they said ok. Well 3:30 am came and guess what no taxi reserved and no taxi's available because clubs get out at that time. Plan B again had to wait for a Lyft. The only positive thing about this hotel it's walking distance to White House, State Dept., etc. read more

Our family of four stayed here for four nights last week. Booking was easy through Hotels.com, which I use primarily for points and because it's a helpful tool to compare reviews for most/all hotels in a given location. I called a couple days prior to arrival, to confirm our reservation and ask a couple quick questions. The man who answered the phone was very difficult to hear; it sounded like a fan was blowing directly behind him. He also wasn't very friendly nor helpful. I was relieved we had a much better experience upon arrival, as the folks we interacted with at the front desk (throughout our stay) were pleasant. None of them seemed particularly thrilled to be there, but they were all right overall. The rest of the staff, including valet, was very nice. The room was fine...clean enough. Very basic, nothing special, but we knew what to expect. No mini-fridges by default, but you can request one at no additional charge and if one is available they bring it up to you. Free WiFi worked with little to no issue. Cable TV cut out one morning, which was OK since we were heading out for the day anyway; but we let the front desk know and it was working when we returned in the evening. Air conditioner worked well. Showers were hot with good pressure and drainage. Neutrogena soaps and lotions with no strong scents (thank goodness). Complimentary toothbrushes and other basic toiletries upon request. Pillows were WAY too soft. Also, not enough wall outlets (I'm used to having one alongside the bed). We took advantage of the complimentary breakfasts daily, which were pretty good. There were different hot dishes each day, in addition to make-your-own waffles (rotating batter flavors), pastries/breads, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, and cereals. Pressed and fountain juices, smoothies, milk, and coffee available. Dining area does get crowded, so plan accordingly. We usually ate by 8am and had no problem. Tiny pool...suitable for maybe 2-4 people. We got lucky the three nights we used it; people were either just leaving as we got in or coming as we left, so it wasn't too crowded. The room the pool's in was a bit chilly. The hotel provides towels for use, which was great. There are also small towels available in the fitness center. Great location, though not many places to eat dinner in the immediately-surrounding vicinity. That's not the hotel's fault, just be sure to plan ahead for your meals. Positive experience overall. If given the opportunity, I would consider staying here again. read more

From our first moment of checking in to our stay to checking out, we were warmly welcomed, well treated, and very happy with this hotel. We got a text the minute we got into our room from the general manager wishing us a good stay and offering any help if needed. The front desk personnel were fantastic. The breakfast was really good and had a really nice, spacious seating area. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable. A nice fitness area, which is key for me. And, an incredible location as it was close to many of the sites we were planning to see. we got a lot of walking in. We will stay here again when we return to DC and highly recommend it. read more

Everything about this hotel is great, except for the water pressure in the shower. I ask for the issue to be looked at and they came within 5 minutes. They changed the shower head and unfortunately it still was not much of a shower. The staff was outstanding from the front desk people, to the staff that worked in the breakfast area, as well as the personal that cleaned the room. They tell you right up front that rooms are only serviced every other day, unless you ask for service each day. We were there over Thanksgiving and even though it was not our day for service, our room was cleaned on Thanksgiving day(AWESOME). The location is perfect for just about any thing you want to do in DC. There are two metro stops within a 5 minute walk. It is also an easy walk down to the White House and the National Mall. You have lots of options for food and drink within easy walking distance. If you are looking for a place to stay in DC, The Hampton Inn/White House checks all the boxes. read more

Further, they do not have blackout curtains and so you will have a lot of light coming into your room. I wouldn't suggest staying at this hotel while Anthony is the manager. This is a great location to stay if you are visiting here and intend to visit all the touristy places. It is just a mile away from National Mall and 2 blocks from White house, train stations are also a block away and plenty of restaurants and bars around. The place was really clean and upgraded. It had a nice decor, room was spacious with basic amenities. They do offer free hot breakfast with plenty of options of food to choose from. They did run out of fruit or forgot to refill. Overall I had a comfortable stay here, I would definitely come back here if I am in the area. read more

Just got back from a 3 night stay here and I found everything to be perfectly fine. What I'll remember most is the friendly front desk staff. I had arrived a few hours early expecting to just hang out and do some work in the lobby but they made sure to get a room ready for me ASAP and kept me up to date on the status. I'll just go down the line with some random thoughts of the hotel. - The area around the hotel is very quiet. Seems to be mostly a commercial office area that is still largely empty due to Covid. It gets really quiet after business hours but the area feels safe for walking. - There are only a handful of restaurants serving dinner that are within walking distance. Do your research on Google beforehand. You're not going to randomly come across something just walking around there. - The rooms were clean and appear to be renovated within the last few years. Water pressure was great and the water gets hot quickly! The bathroom mirror is huge and super bright so you can see all your imperfections in HD. - Decent amount of TV channels including several HBO channels - Pool and gym are located in the basement. The pool itself is not that large and I found that the water and the air temps down there was pretty chilly for comfort. Too bad there is no hot tub to warm up in! - The prices for room here can vary greatly depending on the time of year but overall this place can be a bargain compared to other hotels in the area. - Walking at a decent pace, it took me about 20-25 mins to make it to the center of the Mall and museums. The White House is much closer for walking. - There are two Metro stops within 5-10 minutes of the hotel. - Request a room on the 5th floor or higher if road noise bothers you and you're a late sleeper. I was on the 3rd floor and could hear the traffic in the morning. - Aside from the hotel valet service, there are plenty of garages in the buildings nearby. They are not all 24x7 however, so pay attention if you use them. read more

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights while in DC. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, especially Frank. He aided us with every request and advised us to "Stay smooth," when we would leave the hotel to explore DC. I will definitely return here to stay because of Frank and the breakfast buffet staff, as well as the housekeeping staff that helped us with a smile every time. The location is perfect! Very close to The White House and one block away from the Farragut West Metro Station, featuring the Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines. The room was very clean and modern. Huge plus for having HBO to help me with my Netflix withdrawal away from home. The breakfast buffet, included in the room price, was awesome and featured different offerings every morning, including scrambled eggs, red potatoes, French Toast sticks, Turkey sausage links, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, waffles, fruit juices, English muffins, and more! The hotel is very clean, and you can tell the employees take pride in their work. The hotel is nice and in a good Location. The immensely disappointing part is that it is difficult to get your room cleaned. You have to specifically request if you want it done and even then sometimes it doesn't get done they talk about communication errors. What happened to the days when Cleaning was part of your $300 a night stay? I understand at the height of Covid people may have been more interested in opting out but this feels like a way of getting around provided services. Spent a whole day in the city came back to an unmade room. If we knew it wasn't going to be straightened we would've cleaned it ourselves. It really put a damper on our stay. When I entered this hotel, my first impression was amazement. I was left in awe of just how sleek and modern The lobby was. It was tastefully decorated with ample seating, plush seating and TVs to entertain from every angle. The staff was also very friendly, helpful and professional. Another plus was that the breakfast selection was surprising wide. What was disappointing was that even though the hotel was on a somewhat quiet street, you could still hear noises from night clubs on adjacent streets. The loading dock behind the building did not help the noise level either. I did however appreciate the fact that the hotel tried to help by providing ear plugs. Sadly, that did was ineffective. Noise cancelling headphones that cover your entire ear might have been better suited. With that said, I did not have a restful night. read more

The hotel was very close to the white house and National Mall. All within walking distance. The staff was great except for the night manager who was rude and unhelpful. The daytime manager was great. A very kind lady who was extremely helpful and friendly. The night valet was also A+. The room was clean and spacious as well. We picked our own room and happened to be near an elevator which clanged and banged all night so my advice is to get a room as far away from the elevator as possible. All in all a great value for a budget hotel. read more

Parking was kind of a pain since the garage was across the street but parking is tight in that whole area of DC. My room was very clean and quite spacious. It didn't have a refrigerator which drives me nuts, but that appears to be the future since this is the third hotel I've stayed in over the past year that didn't have one in my room. The room wasn't outdated and appeared fairly recently renovated. Usually, they offer a breakfast bar but due COVID, they had boxes of cereal, milk and a take out bag which consisted of fruit, snack bar, muffin and bottle of water. Stayed here recently on a mni vacay and at first, everything seemed ok. The hotel is in an excellent location only a few blocks from the White House and around the corner from a Metro station. I had no issues with the area at night. The room that I received was a very nicely decorated quiet room facing the street, and I had no issues with any type of noise from the street or the night club (although I could hear it when returning to the hotel late at night). The bed and pillows were comfortable; the bathroom a decent size, and the shower pressure/temperature was great. Everyone talks about Frank, the front desk person, and how friendly and informative he is. Well, I'm here to second that. I even told him when I checked in that he's famous on Yelp for his calming, friendly attitude. He was very humble. But unfortunately, that is where everything glamorous ends. When I returned home, I noticed that my credit card had been used up to the maximum limit. Panicked that someone may have compromised my card, I called my credit card company, who informed me that this hotel had placed multiple holds on my card and pretty much zeroed out my limit. When I called, I spoke to the General Manager (Peter), on three-way with my credit card company, and I have to say that he was one of the rudest people I've ever spoken to. He kept cutting us off, sounding as if he didn't want to be bothered, and just had a nasty tone. Even the representative at the credit card company noted that. Ultimately we got the issue resolved, but not before having to deal with Peter and his attitude. Dude, if you're the General Manager, you've just lost my business. No way should anyone tolerate being spoken to in the manner that I was. Location aside, until management changes, skip this hotel and try the Hilton Garden Inn on 14th Street. read more

Pros: Great location Clean rooms reasonably well appointed Coffee available all day in lobby Very nice staff - they were all very sweet & friendly Decent room value Cons: Tiny rooms I've not on every floor They ran out of the comp breakfast & coffee (C19 issue I think) Parking is $59 a day read more

The bellhop was friendly....can't say that for the assistant manager. The maid had a misunderstanding because the people next door I was traveling with didn't want maid service, they figured I didn't either. I showered with Kleenex for four nights. When I asked the desk for bath clothes, They wanted to know what I needed bath clothes for? Really? The toilets were sized for a Kindergartner, so adults need to request an adult toilet. when I talked to the assistant manager about my challenges, there was no apology forthcoming. read more
