I have never spoken to a more rude customer service agent in my entire life. I have always hated this service because it's so poorly run, but haven't had to deal with customer service until now because I missed my bus due to delayed subways. Not only were they not helpful or accommodating but the agent I spoke to was genuinely so rude, mean and miserable I will never be taking the jitney again. Make sure to make a reservation! This is a great way to get you from East to West and vice versa through Long Island. Keep in mind it is a bus and can't go around commuter traffic so even though there is a "schedule" that doesn't mean that the bus won't always be late. I got picked up at the Amagansett location and the bus was right on time. It will even drop you off For the Islip airport. You do have to take a taxi from the Islip drop off to the actual airport, but for $30 you get a comfortable chair and they even give you a water bottle and a snack. read more

I love the Jitney. For 25 years or more, it's been a great way to get out to the Hamptons. Pickup on the UES couldn't be easier. These are large luxury buses. While they didn't have orange juice or Hamptons magazine on this trip, we did get little bottles of spring water. Check-in is easy, Online booking is easy. It does cost $8 more to book over the phone or pay onboard. I was a little surprised by the upcharge for booking by phone, but I did speak with an actual live person who wasn't thousands of miles away. The Jitney does get stuck in traffic, of course, so arrival times aren't always as accurate as the train. And you change at Calverton if you're going to Westhampton. But your baggage is transferred for you. The Jitney now arrives at and departs from the Westhampton train station, instead of the airport. This is good, as a friend and I once accidentally drove into the ANG base and were directed to exit by some very nice, armed soldiers. Oops. While the LIRR keeps getting more expensive, the Jitney's prices have held pretty steady over the years. You can also buy a pack of tickets if you are a frequent traveler. I have taken the Jitney many times now. The Southampton stop has an indoor area where they have seating, a cafe, vending machines and bathrooms. For a bus stop I would call this pretty nice. As for Jitney staff I usually have come across very nice ones but on the off chance they aren't nice they are just rude or seem grumpy and don't seem like they want to be doing this job. Also, I had a ticket for a 4:30pm bus back to manhattan from Sag Harbor yesterday but the bus came at 4:20pm and then left at 4:25pm or so or a tad earlier. I am glad I got to the bus stop early because, if not I may have missed it. Usually the buses are comfortable but, on this bus coming back from sag harbor there was very little leg room it seemed and the seats were not comfortable. Buses are unreliable - they are run down and fail often. Customer service is possibly the worst I've ever encountered. Missed a bus by 2 minutes and they wouldn't let me apply my prepaid ticket for the next bus 30 minutes later. They made me purchase a second ticket entirely. HJ is the worst. It is expensive and never on time. The condition of many of the buses is a disgrace. The one way cost is $48 if you pay on board and they give you an 8pm bottle of water and a tinny bag of goldfish and no napkins. Today we had to get off the bus at Southampton and get on another bus. By the time we got going we were 31 minutes late. No explanation, no apology. If you were on a tight schedule you would be screwed. The LIRR has to increased their trips to the east end. The Hampton Jitney is a magical experience. First class cabin. I felt like I was being transported into Narnia. The attendant even sang my favorite song. I didn't even tell him somehow he just knew. Terrible customer service. I have to travel to the city very frequently for medical treatment at Cornell. Sometimes the appointments run late. When I knew that this was happening, I went online to change my booking to the later Jitney, which I believed I did successfully. I'm a pretty tech savvy person. However, as I was walking to the Jitney stop and logged on, I noticed that there was no reservation so I gave customer service a call. Apparently there was one more button that I had to push to make the reservation active, which I did not see. I begged for them to please make an exception since the ticket had already been paid for and was not used and I was dismissed and told very coldly there was nothing that could be done because they had already given me a one time "courtesy" a couple of years ago When something similar happened. I asked to speak to a manager and was then hung up on, so of course I called back and was met with the same treatment. I'm pretty sure they keep notes on what you say to them and if they don't like you because the next customer service agent already knew what I had spoken to the previous one about. Again, I asked for a little bit of compassion seeing that I just had a medical procedure and I'm not feeling my best on top of everything and was just met with a very cold NO. I tried explaining that the bus was nearly empty, I use them all the time. They didn't care about anything I had to say. They just care about money. As their prices have gone up, their service has gone down. Even the buses are in terrible condition. I'll be using the train whenever possible in the future. My wife missed the 1.35 pm from Manhattan to Calverton because the stop listed on Google was wrong. She explained to the dude on customer service what had happened; no sympathy or credit. The response was, "You missed the bus. It's your own fault". So she had to pay another thirty-one dollars to catch the 3.35 pm, Sixty-two dollars in total for a one-way trip. The Hampton Jitney -- particularly the Ambassador line -- is awesome. I mean, taking the bus is usually the lowest form of transportation. A bus is even worse than the subway, because at least on the subway you won't get stuck in traffic. With the Jitney, you buy your ticket in advance; you're guaranteed a seat so you can roll up at the last minute; they give you snacks and water; and it has a completely upscale feel. Last summer, I literally sat next to a movie star (Maria Bello)! I've read the bad reviews and most of them seem to relate to one bad experience that a rider has had. At the end of the day, this is New York and (surprise!) sometimes you encounter another rider who's a raging jerk. The driver also can't control the traffic but, man, be glad they're driving and not you! Close your eyes and remind yourself, you're on your way to the Hamptons to chill. Try going to Port Authority to take a Greyhound bus (I have; kill me now!!), and you'll realize how well run this bus line is. My only real suggestion to the company would be to roll out an app that tells you where the bus is. Sometimes, you get to the pick-up spot and the scheduled time comes and goes without a bus, and you don't know what's going on. NYC traffic will do that but it would be comforting to at least know where the bus is so you're not staring up the street intensely, trying to find a green bus out of street traffic. 'I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the Hampton jitney bus service I experienced on July 5th, 2023, from Montauk to NYC. The air conditioning system was not functioning properly, despite being turned on. The temperature inside the bus was very high and unbearable, posing a health risk to many passengers, especially the elderly and the young, such as my four-year-old daughter. I find this to be unacceptable and misleading, as I expected a comfortable and safe ride (for more than 3 very long hours) with air conditioning. In addition, the entertainment system and the internet were not working either, adding to the frustration and inconvenience. This was a very unprofessional and disappointing service that did not meet the standards I expected from your company. I request a full refund for our 3 tickets and an apology for the poor service. The bus was also delayed on it's scheduled pick up times. If I do not receive a satisfactory response from you, I will consider contacting the relevant authorities to file a formal complaint. I've been taking the Jitney for many years. It used to be great and is now disgusting. We took it once in April and once in May - of those two round trips (4 trips) three were gross. The a/c leaked on us the full ride; the rows behind us were covered in black lawn bags, which I hadn't noticed when we sat down (so this was clearly something they knew about) The buses are filthy - truly, not cleaned. The prior passengers' garbage was left behind (half-full water bottles, etc.), and the Jitney attendant onboard was asleep. The bus was full to capacity, the air stagnant, and no air conditioning (not the trip with the leaking a/c). Delays - delays upon pick-up, total lack of estimation of time of trip (off by one hour, and on another off by 1/2 hour) Inside wall held together by tape (clear, wide packing tape) Rude staff Gets off the LIE the for stops in Queens and Farmingville (where the attendant also got off and left!) Last night,7/20/24, I boarded the Jitney, only to find there was no air conditioning. It took a staggering 90 minutes for them to finally crack open the hatch for some much-needed fresh air. As if that weren't enough, they offered goldfish as a snack, and due to the sweltering heat, I had to personally request extra water for everyone--apparently, the worker hadn't considered it. I wish I could give zero stars if I could. There is no social distancing on the Jitney. Every other form of transportation, such as Amtrak and LIRR, have been very accommodating towards the new COVID guidelines. I was forced to sit next to a strange man on a Jitney. These seats are not distant--they are jammed together. I was horrified of how rude the lady on the Jitney was, yelling at everyone to take their bags off the seat to make room for more passengers. Hello, lady, we are in the middle of a pandemic! Maybe have more consideration for the social distancing guidelines that the governor has? The fact that the Jitney does not prioritize the healthy and safety of its passengers says it all. They do not care about you. They just want your money. The customer service is horrible. On top of that, I was charged twice and had to ask for a refund when I couldn't figure out why I was charged an extra amount. And the lady on the phone was being rude towards me. It's going to be a cold day in Hell before I ever consider taking the Jitney again. I have been a valued customer since 2011. I purchase the value pack booklets for the Ambassador (luxury line) every season to go to Southampton. That's a lot of money. I have had 2 incidents with them that stand out to me: 1. 2014 -- someone took my bag from under the bus. They have a separate compartment for people getting off at the JFK stop. I don't understand how my bag was in that compartment. I had to wait 5 hours at one of the Jitney stops to get my back back, and then when I finally called them, no one "tracked" the issue and then told me to go home and they would put my luggage in a cab. Luckily nothing was taken, and they sent me a nice letter or apology. How sweet. 2. 2019 -- there's a guy who works for the company. He's always nasty. He should be fired. I pay $10 to bring my dog on the bus each way. I have been doing this in the same bag (which I got permission from Hampton Jitney beforehand was okay. And today they weren't going to let me on the bus. They told me that my dog (a 20 pound corgi, who doesn't bark AT ALL or bite) would need to face the windows as a precaution. Got on Bus on a rainy, snowy day and immediately water started leaking on me in a heavy flow. I moved seats when we got to south hampton and we had to change buses in the rain. After about 25 - 30 minutes we were on the road again. I fell asleep to be woken up by, you guessed it, more running water from the roof of the new bus! TWO BUSES AND BOTH LEAKED WATER ON ME. We were told to get on the bus, we have our daughter and sat in the front 2 seats to make sure we were together, one of us with her. She is 13!!! And then were told that we couldn't sit there, the guy that works on the jitney was quite smug and rude to us and then we all had to split up on the bus because the guy next to us wouldn't allow my husband to sit with his 13 yr old daughter. Two belligerent men who were loudly and messily eating/drinking started harassing people on the Ambassador today, saying extremely vile and offensive things towards other riders. These people made other passengers feel unsafe and a lot of customers complainied, yet they were not removed from the Jitney. The situation was not handled well at all. One extra star for the attendant being friendly, but there should be a protocol for handling drunk, aggressive passengers. This felt like a very low-class experience.
