Had some time while in Greensboro, so I visited their Hamrick's location. As compared to some other locations, the store seems more spacious and organized. If you have never been to a Hamrick's, the main feature is economy pricing on clothing. They have a large ladies department, with a fairly good sized men's department as well. There are also departments for home decor, kitchen, and "as seen on tv" gadgets. I found a few things, such as men's undershirts that were at a good discount. I stopped by here around 7:30pm on a Saturday evening. I have bought an item a couple months ago from the location in Winston, and one of the pieces was not working. The main purpose for this visit was to exchange the item. Inside, I ended up browsing. The layout is much different from Winston. None of us, it is a large store. I found the item to return/exchange. Their return and exchange policy says items can be returned or exchanged within 60 days with their receipt. Unfortunately, I was maybe a week past six today, Mark. However, I was able to exchange it utilizing the no receipt option. The cashier was friendly & patient. While there, I did get a few more battery operated lights in preparation for hurricane season. I also saw some seat covers for my couch and recliner. However, they were too small and I need to go back and return them. I will be sure to do so before 60 days so that I can get a refund. Usually this isn't my type of store, but I found a ton of squishmallows at a good price! Bought all I could find (not to resell, just for myself) and am so happy! Store is always clean and the employees are always very nice and make checking out super easy. My dad and grandpa love the snacks they sell and always get some for the road since we don't live in Greensboro! My mom loves the clothes and always finds perfect things for her style and size. I do not buy my clothes anywhere else! I have been shopping Hamrick's for years, actually since the early 1990's! What I really love is that I can go in and get my size and do not have to try it on!! That is a huge plus for me!! Also you can buy gifts if you need something. They have a nice collection of items including what you might see on TV. Sometimes they might not have enough registers open, but that is because no one wants to work. But that does not stop me. In fact, I am going tomorrow (4/21/23) to buy a couple outfits for a conference next week. read more

Here's the thing about Hamrick's - you have to know how to shop there. It's like 3 different stores all mixed together in one. One store carries Hamrick's own house labels. These are decent quality, low priced, but not at all fashion-forward. The younger crowd may find a few serviceable basics (think plain shirts, slacks, etc) but the styles are definitely geared to the grey haired set. The "2nd store" is like Stein Mart. Brand name, top quality, mid-range brands. (Clarks, Nine West, Alfred Dunner, Olga, Anne Klein.) These are generally last season liquidations so they may not always get a full range of styles and colors, especially in shoes and handbags. But everything is generally merchandised neatly and together. You're not pawing through random jumbled racks like at a Ross or TJMaxx. This is where Hamrick's really shines and some great bargains are to be had. Especially in brand name comfort shoes! ($40 vs $120) The last "store within a store" is like a Gabe's or Ollie's - trinkets, novelties, seasonal decor, as seen in Tv" items, anything and everything. There are always some fun finds and reasonably priced gift items. No real rhyme or reason as to what you'll find. If you go in with these expectations and a "treasure hunt" mindset, I think you'll be up for a good shopping experience. Hamricks never disappoints! This was my first trip to the one in Greensboro and the staff there was absolutely genuinely kind and helpful! The cashier who checked me out was so engaging yet so efficient! The shoe department was overflowing with bargains of quality brands. I'm a fan of Ryka sneakers for women Skechers and I could have chosen enough pairs to outfit a centipede! Unlike other stores the women's plus section is very well stocked! I also love Sakroots purses and they were only $36! Can't beat Hamricks prices & selection. I wish I had more money & that they would come to Pennsylvania!! read more

Doing some shopping for my sister who is not able to get out. While trying to figure out what shirt goes with pants (sister is 78) for a picky person, I asked an associate for help. Jean jumped right in to help! I interrupting her doing something else but she did not mind. She helped me find everything I needed and had great conversation while doing it. Then I get to the register. Holly was there just as friendly as she could be. This store is lucky to have people like Jean and Holly!! read more

Lots of polyester, and elastic in the women's clothing. Think silver haired women, and you'd have 90% of their customers spot on! I think Tuesdays are senior days, as when you walk in, you see all the elderly men sitting in chairs at the front of the store, while their wives shop. I'd recommend going on a day other than Tuesday, based upon that observation alone, as canes, buggies, carts, etc, liter the aisles, making it hard to get around. Plus, they seem to bathe in a powdery perfume, which causes instant headaches and allergy symptoms for those under 50. Many of the items that are offered by Hamrick's are not the best quality, but, are an okay value, with the 15% off coupon found in most weekly papers. In my experience, they usually have one size in one or two colors, another size in another color, etc, so you never find your size in the color you want. There are never any associates on the sales floor to ask questions to, and the check out lines are usually three to five deep, and take forever to get through. There is a manager or assistant manager out there, Jem, I think her name is? that is pretty rude, clueless, and unhelpful. I had a receipt for something my parents' had bought two weeks beforehand, showing it priced at $19.99, plus tax. It was currently on clearance for $8.56, plus tax, and they could not get it worked out that I should receive the $19.99 back, not the $8.56 it was listed at. The return policy is thirty days, and it had only been less than two weeks. I had to settle for the $8.56, and I left pretty upset about it. I asked for a store credit even, for the difference, but that was denied. The item had been out of the store bag, once, to be tried on, and it was found to be way too big, and had to be returned, unwashed, unaltered, unworn, etc. Not sure why I had to be penalized for almost $10, when I had a receipt, and it was within the return policy time-frame. As long as you don't mind exerting extreme amounts of patience, and dealing with less than stellar check out employees, it's an experience everyone should have. Usually they have a large selection of the "seen on TV" items, and that's a fun section to browse through. This is one department store definitely geared to the over 70 crowd, so be prepared when you go in. Hopefully you'll find a bargain, and support a regional business in the process. read more

I love the Hamrick's in Roanoke, Va. I wear plus sizes and they have a lot in my size at very good prices. Because of health issues I can't walk for a long time. I use the motorized chairs in other stores. Hamrick's do not have them, even if they did it would not be easy. The store is very compact, the aisles very narrow. It is difficult to use my walker there. I wish that they had an online website I could shop on or look at items to select what I wanted to buy before I went to the store. I could go to the store and know what I was going to buy, so I would not have to walk around the store a long time looking. read more

I always leave there wondering if I got ripped off b/c the signage is somewhat sketchy, and I wonder if it is deliberately deceptive.

I thought real hard before writing this review but after last night experience I felt compelled to share my experience in hopes for this employee to treat her fellow peers and customers with more respect. I've been a loyal shopper for 6 years and with in the last few years "customer service" has not been this employee's main concern. This person is stationed on the platform behind the register and on two other occasions has been arrogantly rude to me as the customer and the cashier upon asking for assistance. Their statement was "if common-sense were common" twice as they came down from the platform and again after keying in numbers at the register. The entire time while providing assistance to their fellow employee they made the noises of ugh, ugh, ugh, and throwing the material to the floor as if the we caused a major inconvenience for a exchange. I frequent Hamrick's in Greensboro, NC because I have found really good quality at reasonable prices. My mom insists we shop there every Tuesday and almost every Saturday. It's her favorite store The employees that I have had contact with are very friendly & helpful. Saturday, one particular employee, Bailey, was especially helpful. It was time for her to leave; but when called to the front to assist me, she didn't hesitate to go beyond her responsibility. She called other stores to ask for a larger size. She checked the stockroom & even wrote phone numbers for me to call later after more stock was unpacked!! Bailey deserves kudos and recognition for being an exceptional employee & person. My only concern or pet peeve is there are so many "WOW" items that are disqualified for any discount/coupons. I recall another department store in Greensboro who had a similar practice and after sometime people became irritated that they no longer shopped there and the store eventually closed :( read more
