Everything was so on-point with Han that I don't even know where to begin gushing about it. I'll just pick somewhere... Mandu - perfectly crispy, right amount of filling, great dipping sauce, and TWICE the amount of dumplings that you get if you compared it to an order of, maybe, gyoza from any other place within a few miles (cough, cough, Tokyo Express, cough, cough...) Bibimbap - Generous amount of banchan, perfectly cooked rice, and everything seasoned to perfection, including the expertly cooked sunny-side-up egg on the dish. HOMEMADE GOCHUJANG,Y'ALL! We're not talking about the shit from the plastic tubs at the Asian Market. This is the real deal and DAMN it was good. Bulgogi - Paper thin, but not dry, and beautifully seasoned, obviously with a copious helping of their perfect rice. Kimchi Jigae - Rich, spicy, porky, tangy. Just pure happiness in my mouth. I don't know if this is only a "me" thing, but I consumed all the broth and tofu and, saved all the kimchi and pork for a later snack with a bowl of rice. Both applications were f*cking delicious. My wife and I got enough food to feed us both for 3-4 meals and it cost us $60. Given the quality of the food here, I don't think there's a better deal Korean food in the area. This hole in the wall is a hidden gem, but make sure you come with thick skin because they aren't the friendliest. But I'm here to indulge in amazing food and go home. The spicy pork bulgogi is on point, a good blend of sweetness and spicy. All the sides were good but when we asked for a second serving of the cucumber kimchi, the owner acted like I asked him for one of his kidneys. Sheesh, it's delicious don't be stingy. The steam buns are my absolute favorite!! I cannot find these in any other Korean spot in town and I've been to just about all of them. I typically call in an order and pick them up at least once a month. I will continue to come back here as long as I'm employed because it's not cheap. They will also serve your food on paper plates or whatever they have back there. So if you're expecting A1 customer service or a magical dining experience you won't find it here, but you will enjoy some good homemade Korean food. read more

We were craving some good Korean food without having to go to an AYCE KBBQ. We found this small mom and pop shop right off the freeway. We were a little skeptical because of the prices (~$18 per dish) so we just got one pork and one beef bulgogi. And let me tell you, the portions and flavors were worth every single $$. Okay, so I absolutely LOVE Han Il Garden! Even in these pandemic times, this restaurant remains to put out delicious, quality Korean food. I've been coming here for over a year (not sure why it took me so long to try it out!) and I am never disappointed. My favorite is the bulgolgi and yakimandu, they also recently added kim bap and its incredible. The owners are only doing takeout at the moment and they use all the proper precautions when picking up an order. Our local businesses need us and Han Il needs our patronage! Don't go here. My wife and I came here for lunch, stood at door for about 5 minutes waiting to be seated. It's a small restaurant and of the 6-7 tables, all but 2 were seated and the empty ones were not cleared. An Asian employee came out and told us they were only seating Asians. Looking around we noticed we were the only non Asians there. This is the only time I know of where this has happened to us. Obviously, we will not return. read more

This is a really yummy local spot with fresh food. Mrs. Kim makes everything in the kitchen while her husband is the server. I was invited here for lunch by family and the hospitality was great. I lived in Korea for 5 years and a bunch of my Korean friends and I came here to eat dinner. We all ordered a bunch of stuff to share, Korean style. The spicy chicken bulgolgi, yaki, steamed dumplings, chop chae...all very flavorful and delicious! The side dishes were squid, kimchi radish, cabbage kimchi, and bean sprouts. The food was out pretty quickly and the best I have had in the states so far. The menu is vast and is in English and Hangul. The place does look like a hole in the wall but believe me when I say that the food is way better than you would think. This is a small restaurant that serves Authentic food that a Korean grandma would make. The beef short ribs Galbi was absolutely delicious. The best in San Antonio for sure and perhaps some of the best I have had (and lots of it). The tofu soup was tasty too but quite spicy for me. The seafood pancakes w green onions was crispy and savory. The kimchi's were so so. Small mom and pop place that looks clean. I'm just not sure about using styrofoam plates to serve such incredible food seems so demeaning. I would definitely come back again to try other dishes but I hope the dinner plates next time would be at least not styrofoam. read more

They've been around for 12 years as a little mom and pop restaurant, and their menu is quite impressive compared to all the other Korean restaurants in this area, albeit probably the highest prices you'll see around here. I admit that you wouldn't come here for looks at all... it's a small mom and pop place where all they seem to care about is making true and good korean food. This is a very unassuming place, somewhere that I probably wouldn't have walked into off of the street...but I'm so glad that went! I messaged the owner before Christmas just to see if by chance they sold a dish I've been searching everywhere for, Ganjang Gejang. Much to my surprise, they did sell it by special order only, so I placed an order along with an order for Yangmeon Gejang, Dhuk Man Du Guk, Pacific Saury Gu-yi, Seafood Jjam Phong, and Stir Fried Squid. Everything was AMAZING! The squid if all of the dishes was so very tender, and all of the seafood was well cooked and seemingly fresh. The stir fried squid and jjam phong were so well balanced, not too spicy, but with a nice kick. On top of that the owner and chef was so sweet and so helpful. I can't really explain just how pleased I was with my whole experience. I took my order to-go, and the lovely man that got my order together even carried it to my car since it was rather large and heavy. I love Korean food! I've been eating it essentially for my entire life and Han Il does not disappoint. I called in a to-go order of beef bulgolgi and yah ki man du. Everything was hot and fresh when I arrived to pick up my order. The man du were crispy. The bulgogi was also tasty and the meat was tender. When I arrived on a Saturday night, there was no customers which I found strange as this place is legit. There are quite a few Korean restaurants in this area so I understand that the competition is fierce but to me, I like Han Il the most. Come and check it out!! read more

Delicious, mah hubby found this gem on a google search. We drove up and i am not going to lie, it looked a bit rough around the edges. We walked in - and lets just say this is a humble establishment. We both ordered lunch specials. I had the bulgogi and my hubby the bimbimbap. Both were perfect, great portion size and the side dishes were great. The beef was marinaded to perfection not a lot of fat AND there was some char-ness that gave it more divine flava. The kimchee had great flavor too...yaaaaas. We both polished off our plates and the only thing we were disappointed about was that we did not have leftovers to take home. Looking forward to grubbing here again soon. read more

I would say it is like country style of Korean restaurant. Old lady and man owned this restaurant who came from LA Ktwon and Ktown ppl knows how to cook authentic Kfood. The place is small, the TV is always tuned in to Korean channels, and their food is amazing and carefully made. This place is probably the best Korean restaurant we have in San Antonio. The owner and her daughter are both awesome people, really friendly, and their food is amazing. Each time I've been, it's the mom and the mom alone that cooks all your food -- she works hard and she does a damn good job. So far everything I've ordered has been excellent, and the banchan is always fresh and always different. Their mandu is definitely up to par if not better than even your run-of-the-mill mandu one might find in Seoul. This place is great, I totally recommend it. And I can comfortably say that I know what I'm talking about; I studied in Seoul two years ago and lived in an old area renown for having really great restaurants... eating at Hanil Garden really takes me back. read more
