I went on a weekday evening. The restaurant was completely empty. 2 waiters sitting watching tv which they didn't see me walking in. It took a good 5 minutes to get their attention. Once I got seated one of the guys actually had prompt and very nice service. I used to go to this restaurant a lot in the past and it used to be packed! I am not sure what happened. I got the food delivered and it wasn't what I expected. I really wanted korean food and it didn't meet my expectations. The only food that was delicious was the kim bap. When I've had issues with DoorDash drivers stealing my order from Kogi, they always handle it with the customer in mind. We came here on the off dining hours the Saturday before last weekend. The restaurant is on a strip mall but a bit hidden when you come in the main entrance . We came at 3:30pm and it was quiet . My friends and I had the worst experience tonight at Kogi Korean Grill off Vance Jackson. I used to love this place but I guess it has a new owner. She tried to charge $8 for fries for my 1 year old when menu said $1.75. There was a roach in one of the dishes she brought us to "try" but only told us after a few minutes had passed. Then the server told us that that food was potentially spayed by pesticide. So furious right now. Never going back there and I don't recommend it to anyone. read more

Absolutely love the food here, always hits the spot when I want something hot and comforting with a lot of flavor. Service is always prompt, friendly and attentive whenever I come in ( at least once a week or every other week). It tends to be pretty empty when I come in but I still like the quiet and chill vibes in here. A few months ago, I accidentally watched the beginning of a Korean drama series on Netflix and found myself hooked on it. I watched the entire series and wanted more. Since then, I have watched 35 of them. Being a "foody", I couldn't help but notice some of the wonderful things they were eating in the shows. I learned the names of two of them jjahangmeyon and gimbap. I wanted to try them so I asked for recommendations on Nextdoor and found a few places to get them. Kogi Korean Grill seemed like the easiest retaurant to get to and was open when I wanted to go, so I headed there. I found both items on the menu, although they were spelled differently. I decided to order both and bring any leftovers home. The jjahangmeyon was a bowl of noodles covered in dark sweet and sticky bean sauce. It had pieces of pork an either cucumber or zucchini in it (I couldn't tell). I carefully mixed everything together as I had seen on TV. Eating it was very nice. It had that thick goodness that I really enjoy experiencing when chewing and swallowing. I could pig out on that stuff every day! The gimbap was almost like sushi. Instead of fish, it had Korean BBQ in it. There was a dipping sauce that was very sweet and tangy that knocked each bite out of the world. I ended up eating all of the pieces. It was addictive. Now, as I have said for so many other ethnic foods, I am no expert on Korean food. This stuff may not be anything like the real stuff served in Korea. I don't know, and I don't care. I loved every bit of it and will go back over and over to get more of it. At the same time, I will venture out to other Korean restaurants and experiment with other dishes, as well. read more

THE BULGOKI IS MINDBLOWING! Wow! I wasn't sure what to expect coming here for the first time with my love. My partner previously ate here and recommended we both go for lunch. We arrived on a Tuesday rather early around 11:30am and we were the first patrons to be seated and serviced. **FOOD** I ordered the Beef Bulkogi for $11.95 with cold sides. I had steamed sticky white rice, zucchini, and spicy kimchi. The Beef Bulkogi was marinated so well and very flavorful. It was my favorite for sure. I didn't quite care for the cold sides honestly. I never tried kimchi before and despite enjoying the texture and flavor I'm not sure I would order again if it's cold. Babe ordered the Soon Doo Boo for $11.95 also with sides. The sides were rice, sprouts, kimchi, and zucchini. Her food was beautifully plated and came out piping hot. She couldn't eat it all fast because it was so hot. Steam was coming from the bowl the entire time even down to putting the leftovers in the to-go container. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal also. **DRINKS** For drinks we ordered some alcoholic cocktails. Despite the menu saying frozen drinks are available they actually are not as we were advised they don't have a blender or the capacity to make frozen/blended drinks at that time. That was ok because I was in the mood for "on the rocks" margarita. I'm so happy I tried this because baby, it was soooo good! The flavor and alcohol was excellent! They definitely don't skimp on the alcohol in this drink! Babe had a Mango Magma Margarita which was advertised on the board when you first arrive. This drink was amazing too. Its sweet but hits subtly after with spice and a kick! Highly recommend both drinks! **PRICE** The price was very fair and reasonable. We ordered lunch portions but I was full prior to finishing everything on my plate. Babe took her food to go and was able to enjoy leftovers. I can only imagine what the dinner portions look like. **CLEANLINESS** The restaurant was very clean and we sat at a booth that presented no issues. There was fly or fruit fly flying around during our meal but it wasn't too annoying. I'm not sure how the restrooms were as we did not need to use them. However another patron used them and appeared pleased, with no complaints. Ohhh also, I love how on the outside of the restaurant looking in the windows are blacked out so you can't see inside but when you get inside they are bright, open and you can see out. Very cool feature. **SERVICE** First impressions are very important to me and let's just say the service was spot on! My initial impression was a great one. The host and server who took care of us was Ke'airra! She was absolutely phenomenal. She was very welcoming, friendly, attentive and helpful. She knew the menu well and was able to recommend some lunch options. I loved her honesty about whether she enjoyed a dish because to be honest at most places people lie and tell you they love everything and they actually don't! Ke'airra got our drink and food orders perfect. She didn't write anything down either. Her memory seems wonderful. She had such a beautiful, vibrant personality and really makes for a great first impression on this place!! I will definitely return and hope she is our server/host again! This was the third time I have come here. Each time, it was ok. Not great, but not bad either. It had what I was craving, but never satisfying it completely. This visit was driven by the lunch specials they had. I'm not convinced they have great lunch deals. I ordered the bulgogi, but it was extremely salty. The kimchi side they brought me felt like it was on the verge of going bad. then finally the rice they gave me for my dish tasted old. On the flip side, my friend's dish was the bulgogi bibimbap. It was a few dollars more, but worldly different. It looked (and was) alot more satisfying than the one I got. It had the veggies, sides, etc in the stone pot. So if you do go here, I would highly recommend getting the bibimbap! read more

I have to admit I was expecting to be in a meh mood trying Kogi while in San Antonio but was pleasantly surprised. I already have my favorite Korean dishes in mind when I try a place and go to them to gauge everything. My brother and his wife ordered the Dukk (tteok) soup, and Bi Bim Bap. I haven't had Ja Jang Myeon in a long time so that's what I got after seeing it on the menu. We started with the Dukk Bok Gee (tteok bokki), a longtime favorite food. Kogi's Dukk Bok Gee was good, the texture of the rice cake was nice and chewy, the gochujang sauce nice and spicy. There weren't any fish cake, but plenty of onions in the dish, and maybe 10 pieces of tteok for almost $9! The price for the dish is very high if you've priced rice cake at your local Asian grocer. Thumbs down for quantity. The banchan was good, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts and tofu kimchi. The banchan came with my brothers Dukk soup, which was confusing as in most Korean restaurant's banchan isn't limited to what entree you're eating. My Ja Jang Myeon was good, even if it didn't take all day to make. It didn't taste pre-packaged to me and had a good flavor all the way around. The noodles were nice and chewy, one of the biggest draws for Ja Jang Myeon fans. There was a mixture of cabbage, zucchini and bites of pork, in the dark soy bean paste sauce. I wasn't disappointed with my dish and was happy to see the yellow pickled radish come out with my dish, no raw onions though which for purists would be a must. Our server was holding everything down on his own when we stopped in on a Sunday evening around 7, he was friendly and attentive without being overly absent or hovering. The space is in a pretty quiet strip mall type building, modern without much decor. According to a sign they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Overall, the food was good for an Asian/Korean Fusion place, I wouldn't be a regular but can say I've tried Kogi. read more

It wasn't until we were halfway through our meal that our waiter brought him a full teapot - The kimchi chi gae tasted a little off. They kinda cheated and put in greens instead of kimchi in the soup which gave it an awkward taste - The galbi does NOT come on a sizzling plate like most Korean restaurants - You can only choose 3 bon chan plates to go with your entree If you're craving real authentic Korean food, this is NOT the place to go. Each dish was accompanied by steamed rice, kim chi, bean sprouts and 2 cheese puffs. The dishes were not over spiced and were very tasty. Granted, we were the only people in there on a Friday night - but I thought I would try the Korean burger that was listed and was disappointed. I tried my best to finish it, but couldn't stand it anymore. The fries were fresh, my bun was cold and basically breaking apart, the bulgogi inside tasted like it was from the frozen section at a HEB and the fried egg tasted like it was made beforehand and not fresh- I WOULD NOT recommend the burger at all. The bibimbap was tasty and came with the side dishes of vegetables and kimchi. Our family shared a 16 piece Korean fried chicken, which was perfectly crisp and had the right amount of sweetness! It was no Bonchon, but definitely satisfactory Korean fried chicken! It seemed a little Americanized for me, and I felt other Korean restaurants in San Antonio were more ethnic. We ordered the spicy rice cakes and the seafood pancake that was like nothing we've ever had. It tasted okay only the seafood wasn't mixed in and the sauce on the tobohki didn't hit the mark. The seafood on the pancake was tossed on top. The spicy pork soup was good only the pork meat was shredded. Again, like nothing we've ever had but was good. This is the first time I'm visiting this restaurant. I went during a normally active time for restaurants; however this place was completely empty. I was the only customer. The weird thing is the fact that despite being the only customer and hence source of food order, it took them more than 30 minutes to get my dish to me. On top of that, I ordered the hot pot soup. I regularly eat at Korean restaurants and in every restaurant I've been to, there is an elaborate explanation of each dish. The waiter failed to notify me that they put an egg in the hot pot soup (was listed as a side option but not in the original dish). I'm severely allergic to egg, so thank God I was able to catch it before I ate it. The waiter didn't fight to remake the soup though, so there was proper etiquette there. The soup is flavorless (missing salt) and also the soup base is normally soybean paste, but it seemed that this one was broth based. The sides were okay. The kimchi radish was really good, but the kimchi was too sour. And the bean sprouts were dry and flavorless. I recommend that management rework their menu to truly reflect traditional Korean food (as this is what this restaurant is claiming to be). I do not recommend this place to individuals who are looking for authentic Korean food. read more

Meat tasted like it was cooked, cooled, recooked - you get the picture. Kimchi stew- watery-you need to use more fermented kimchi for stew. Jajangmyeon -noodles shouldn't be an over cooked fettuccine like noodle. The sauce was decent but not enough to cover for those noodles- for a to go, wouldn't you put those separately? Kimbab. Come on guys, let's not be lazy with the knife- I had to recut- no worries, these were not up to par either. The rice cakes were the only thing we ate a quarter of, and the service was very nice, hence the 2nd star-we ended up going to get Marcos pizza.
