I visited Lumos last week, in my quest to find a highly skilled aesthetician in San Diego. I had a Rezenerate and LED light facial. I have had a ton of treatments in the past, up in the Bay Area (and a few in San Diego), but had not tried either the Rezerate or LED yet. I was super impressed with the results -- and have been glowing now, for a week since my visit. I was also impressed by how thorough Meghan is -- she explained everything to me before hand, which I thought was wonderful. She certainly knows her stuff and individualizes her approach to each client. Meghan was very generous to me with her time and energy -- I asked a lot of question and she gave me solid professional advice. The other thing I really appreciate about Meghan was that she is not trying to 'upsell.' Sometimes when I try a new place they start me out on a super mild spa like 'relaxing facial' which is not an actual treatment, in their effort to get you to come back again. That was not the case here -- she went right to an actual treatment because I made it clear that I have had a ton of peels, use active products etc., already. She took the time to sit with me before she started my service to ask me questions about how I care for my skin and to figure out my skin goals. An actual consultation! What a concept! Other estheticians should take note. I can't tell you how many times I've filled out forms when getting a facial and it's a waste of my time because most of the estheticians don't even look at them. I have been seeing Meghan for the past ~1.5 years and am so sad I am moving to find another acne specialist. Meghan is very professional and kind. She practices very safe, sanitary practices, and listens to your needs. I have oily, combination skin and she has helped me manage my acne and keep it under control. We have discussed other aspects that could be contributing to my acne from skincare, makeup, diet, etc. The visit is very relaxing as well which includes relaxing sounds throughout, and aromatherapy with a quick little head massage at the end (Meghan you are the best for this). Her extractions are very tolerable compared to other extractions I've gotten from different estheticians in the past (which were painful and super uncomfortable). I am so lucky I got to see her again after the first reopening, and am so sad her business has closed again. I was looking for someone to treat my teenage daughter that is dealing with a case of very stubborn blackheads on her nose. After reading the reviews on several studios, I came across Meghan's and two others but Meghan was the first to return my call. I booked an appointment and was very impressed from the moment we walked in. The studio is small but very nicely decorated with a calming feeling: so cute!!! Smells amazing!!! To note: This post is not a direct reflection on Meghan as she was kind, patient, and responsive to my concerning emails. I am writing this post because I would have wanted to read this type of review while I was searching for someone to assist with my adult acne. As a teenager I suffered from mild to moderate acne and it didn't fully clear until I started to take medication when I was 24 years old. At the beginning of this year I had to go off the medication due to wanting to have a baby. One to two months after stopping the acne medication I started breaking out and began the search for local estheticians who were skilled at treating adult acne. In the middle of June I had my first appointment at Lumos Skincare Studio with Meghan and she told me about a skin product called Face Reality (which I use currently and really like). She also told me she could help clear my adult acne and when I expressed skepticism, she specially said, "this is not my first rodeo." Given Meghan's response, I trusted her and started facials and LED treatments approximately every 2-3 weeks. Unfortunately, after starting the treatments my skin immediately worsened and by July I was emailing Meghan with my concerns regarding her approach. Meghan reported in the email that the process would take at least 3 months for my skin to begin clearing. I was very worried and frustrated but trusted her as I had no other options. At the end of July Meghan emailed me before/after pictures comparing my skin to when I started treatment with her to the present. When looking at the pictures it was clear that my skin had not improved and had gotten worse. I again emailed my concerns and she stated I needed to be dedicated and patient. Given my continued frustration and unhappiness Meghan also suggested I find another Face Reality esthetician. At the time, I felt invested in Meghan and felt lost as to what to do since I didn't have any other options. I did one more treatment with Meghan right before I left on a trip to San Francisco in the beginning of August. After that session my face broke out so badly that my San Francisco trip was ruined. I couldn't take pictures or be around other people because I was so embarrassed about how my face looked. I was so frustrated and lost. I decided while on my trip in San Francisco to contact another Face Reality esthetician, as Meghan had suggested, to explore my options. It was truly the best decision I could have made for my face. I saw another Face Reality esthetician the week I returned from San Francisco and it was during this appointment everything changed. The Face Reality esthetician realized that the following products/regime were likely contributing to my acne: 1) my makeup primer, 2) my Vitamin D supplement, and 3) my Face Reality regime. After the initial session with this new Face Reality esthetician my skin improved dramatically. The esthetician told me I would see results with the new regime within 2-4 weeks (not months as Meghan had indicated) and she was correct. My face had cleared and looks amazing. I wanted to be completely transparent with Meghan so I emailed her this story to inform her that I would not be returning to her and why. When she replied to my email, she was kind and stated that she was glad I found someone to help me with my skin and glad that I took her suggestion of finding another Face Reality esthetician. I would be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated with Meghan given everything I went through (I truly think anyone would be). But, the best thing Meghan did for me was to introduce me to Face Reality products and to suggest that I seek services elsewhere. I am so happy I did not continue with Meghan as I am terrified to think where my face would be today. With all of that being said, I also have no doubt that she has helped other people with her services, she has multiple Yelp reviews to prove it. But, I truly question her ability to help adult acne suffers and wanted to write this detailed post for other people who might be in a similar situation. read more

I was very disappointed with my last treatment at Lumos Skincare. I had 2 gift certificates for a complete package of facial, mask, and arm massage, about 45-50 minutes of pampering. When I had been to Meghan before, she was very good and this was what I had purchased again. However, I had been in the hospital, and could not use these in a timely manner. When I went yesterday, I got only 30 minutes of facial, with no mask or arm massage. Then she told me that my certificates had expired and I owed her money, which she hadn't told me when I booked my appointment. There was NO EXPIRATION DATE on my gift certificates. Came here today for the first time for the simple and sweet facial. My skin feels amazing and the aroma therapy scalp massage at the end left me so relaxed! Her studio is super cute and clean, and she locks the door when your session starts so there's no distractions and you can completely relax.
