During our vacation to Oregon we were on an ice cream kick so Handel's was one place we tried in Bend. They have many flavors but my kids love anything cotton candy or bubble gum so cotton candy was their choice this time. Thankfully you can buy a platter of 4 scoops for the 4 kiddos we had. The place has a good selection of flavors on their wall where they go behind the counter to scoop up. The guy we got was pleasant and patient while the kids were ordering. There were some seats outside we could sit down and enjoy the scoops. Some places with very hard melted ice cream were apparent on the table. I got the blueberry cobbler. No good cobbler salty pieces I was hoping for. The cotton candy had chocolate chips in it which the kids weren't a fan of and the color was off. read more

We love Handel's! Super great flavors and options to choose from. It seemed to be a popular place as well with a longer line. Sadly they had no seating inside (it was kind of of cold to eat outside) and the portions seemed a bit small for the price, but the flavors were SO good. It's pretty good ice cream for the price. We tried blueberry cobbler and banana & graham crackers. We could tell visually and taste that real fruits were used in the daily making of the ice cream. I'm not sure what that's about or if it's employee discretion (the person was alone but there wasn't a line). Doesn't seem as inviting (a few high bar stools) but the place is big enough to hold more seating (even a booth or two). OMG Hubby brought a strawberry milkshake home when I wasn't feeling well - I love ice cream when feeling bad. This was/is " too die for goodness" !!! We can't wait to try ALL of the flavors and different menu items. Sooooo many choices- YUM South end of Bend but so worth the drive if you are further north and if you live close by, lucky you I really don't think I've ever had a better milkshake. Way to go! This place makes no sense. You can choose between 3 sizes of which "small=3.5 scoops" "medium=4.5 scoops" and "large=5.5 scoops". FIRST of all, why in the world isn't there just a ONE or TWO scoop option. SECOND, you are only allowed to pick one flavor if you get a small.... Even though it's 3.5 scoops. If you want TWO FLAVORS, you have to pick the medium... 4.5 scoops. Why do I need to have 4.5 scoops of ice cream in order to get 2 flavors? I go to other ice cream shops where you can get ONE SCOOP and they will split it into two flavors for me just fine. THIRD, how and WHY are you doing HALF SCOOPS as a standard measurement. Beyond this nonsense- 1. Bathroom requires asking for a key 2. There is no drinking fountain 3. The place is huge with plenty of space and there are ZERO tables for sitting. There is a standing level counter with a few high bar stools stuffed in the corner with a counter that has a great view of the wall that's about 12 inches in front of your face. 4. You can't even view the ice cream flavors. They are in solid metal containers that only the employees can see into. So the fun of looking at the flavors- NOT a thing here. You simply choose your ice cream from a word description, there's not even a picture. 5. The waffle cones were so hard that they hurt our mouths and made my boyfriend's tongue bleed. Overall, The ice cream quality is fine and I would order it for a delivery I guess. But when I go out for ice cream, it's about the experience, and I would definitely rather go ANYwhere else in town. As adults we hated it, I couldn't even imagine bringing kids to somewhere that they can't see flavors or have anywhere to sit. read more

There were four people working and there was one customer in line ahead of me. I think they must've had a ton of online orders because everyone seemed busy but the line was not moving. A couple came into tue store, walked right past the sigh and me and went right up to the counter. The workers served them while ignoring me. It's now been 20 minutes and I'm still in line. Their staff is spending a disproportionate amount of time filling online orders. Brock and mortar customers are not greeted, adding to the frustration. As we were waiting we noticed that the white blonde worker was only helping out white people and we were in front of the line and she would hand pick people that were white to help them out and ask them for their order it's sad to see that we're in 2023 and racism still exists.
