I hadn't been there in a while, wasn't sure what I wanted and God help me because I took maybe more than two minutes to figure out what it was I wanted. Then when I said what I wanted, 'French Vanilla,' of all the flavors for them not to have but of course they didn't have it, and it was downhill from there. Quality control heads up! Pains me to write this review since we do love Handles product, but, well just read. I took my three kids and wife for a late night treat tonight to Handles Ice Cream on Belmont Ave in Liberty. My wife bit into her top scoop of her pistachio waffle cone and spit out what appeared to be a full thumb nail. She freaked out, I took the cone back to the window - I was refunded, but the male cashier seemed not very caring and I almost felt like he thought I was B.S.ing him even though it was clearly a male ....full thumb nail. My husband and I both got no sugar added butter pecan ice cream last night. I immediately noticed the flavor was very weak and there were only a few pecans. Not only that, but, I began to get an upset stomach after eating. I only ordered one scoop and only ate half of that, thank God. My husband on the other hand had two scoops and ate at all. He was up in the middle of the night with a very bad stomach. It's obvious there's something in the no sugar added ice cream that really upset our stomachs this time. Sadly I have to report...this is the best ice cream ever! I was skeptical after many north east Ohioans kept insisting it was "the best" , but I have to say it lived up to the hype! There were a ton and tons of flavors and variety of items. Everything was extremely reasonable in price. Ice cream tasted so fresh. I always delight in the good fortune of finding a locally owned ice cream joint when I'm travelling, especially one with high ratings. In this case, I couldn't have missed it, as it lay across the street from the Hampton Inn where I was staying while passing through on I-80. They have all of your favorite classic flavors--mint chocolate chip, butter pecan, chocolate almond. So choice. I highly recommend picking one up. They also offer a few more inventive selections, such as cinnamon bun and "Spouse in a House" which is vanilla malt base with peanut butter ripple and chocolate-covered pretzels. It's all delicious. The ice cream is lighter in body and softer than most others, but that's fine. It makes a cone of the stuff seem a little less decadent. So order a double! read more

I don't normally like crapping on local businesses, and maybe I'm out of line, but I'm from out of town, don't know the area at all. My mother-in-law picks a restaurant called Station Square, which as it turns out is right across from this Handel's. The plan was to eat, then go to Handel's for desert after. Station Square was super crowded, I circled the lot 4 times - and while there was valet parking, I don't do valet. So I dropped off everyone in the car, and went looking for a parking spot somewhere. Handel's has a big lot. (Check Google maps, it's huge) There were MAYBE 4 cars there. Room for 30 more easy. I parked way back in a corner, and asked if I could park there, since we were all coming there for desert after anyway. 3 families; nine people. Nope. No can do. I don't get it - I really don't. I could maybe understand if the lot were anywhere near full. Anyway, I thought it was super crappy, and I ended up parking in the convention center lot. I absolutely love handels in general. I now live in the west coast and crave handels very often. I was excited to go here soon after I touched down in Ohio a couple days ago. Young boys loitering outside at the counter apparently waiting to chat up girlfriend that's working was kinda a turnoff. My favorite chocolate pecan was totally lacking an abundance of pecans as well as being super soft that it was falling off the cone and the girl working suggested I take a cup. Handel's is one of those places that make you reluctant to move away. IS there Ice Cream the BEST in the state of Ohio ? Yes. The World? Strong 'maybe'. The Chocolate Pecan is a signature flavor. The Banana Split is the best value hand's down. Note: always order with NO LID so the help can pile it on! THere Coffee ice cream is a personal fave. The ice cream s made daily; the flavor selections are abundant, and the butter fat content is high, as any great ice cream has to be. I am gushing, but it's fun to gush when you get the chance!.
