They addressed the few touch-up areas we identified during the week without issue and completed the job in the time frame originally quoted. in 2010 I was charged $300 for HandiCo to come out and install hardware for 2 bifold doors that wouldn't stay in place. I thought at the time that it was steep, but being ignorant to how much it cost to have a handy man come out to fix something I paid the bill and vowed to try to shop around before hiring the first company I called. Cut to 2 years later when my husband and I decided to replace the third bi-fold door and hardware, but this time do it ourselves. I contacted HandiCo to inquire about the type of hardward they used and possibly even have them order the same hardware for us for the third door. After multiple inquiries we were told that we should check out Home Depot for more answers and were pretty much left with the feeling that a bit of customer service was a privaledge only bestowed upon the sucker willing to pay out the nose for their services. We eventually did track down the hardware that HandiCo order and realized that only only was their installation cost per hour high, but they also way upcharged us (beyond the typical range) for the hardware they purchased. If I have one piece of advice it would be to shop around. Compare pricing. Look elsewhere. I could look the other way on price, but their poor customer service is what really makes me send out this warning. read more

My Problems: (1) The front window bay area of my 100-year-old condo had suffered water damage because of masonry leakage from the outside of our building. I needed to have the interior wall replastered & repainted and the windows cleaned, repaired and reinstalled. (2) Having recently had some kitchen under-cabinet lights installed, I needed the wall surrounding the new outlets to be replastered and repainted. (3) My 12-year-old kitchen trash bin sliding drawer had "gone off the rails" [i.e., wouldn't close properly] and needed to be repaired. HandiCo's Solutions: I've turned to HandiCo frequently for at least 10 years now, and they have never disappointed me. They've always delivered exemplary service at a reasonable price. The staff are unfailingly courteous, accommodating, punctual, professional, and highly competent. They're real problem solvers. Pablo completed projects #1 & #2; his knowledge and skill re: upkeep of old [100+ years] buildings assured me that my home was in good hands, and the craftsmanship and care he invested in the repairs exceeded my expectations. Project #3 has been more complicated and has required three attempts (the second & third of them "gratis") to complete. Matt has persisted in trying to solve the problem without replacing the sliding drawer entirely, but has sketched out an alternative plan if today's third attempt doesn't do the job. What's most important is that I've learned that I can trust HandiCo to keep working on the problem until it's solved to my [& their!] satisfaction. read more

I felt like Handico did a pretty good job, but I wasn't completely thrilled. They fixed the main thing that was bothering me--a clanking kitchen hood. But, with regard to the second item--sanding and priming spots of rust on my exterior stairs, I was somewhat disappoiinted. The first guy who had come out to assess the situation identified the paint on the stairs as primer and then they brought primer. However, the second guy--after using the primer--which did not match the color of the stairs--informed me that likely the staircase was painted. I wasn't informed about this while it was happening, so I am left with mismatched spot-primed staircase and the option to now hire a painter for more cost. I also believed they were WAY over-priced and they had mentioned ahead of time for big projects they don't charge by the hour, but then never told me how they were charging and ultimately they charged me by the hour. Overall, I would not hire them for a painting job, but I would hire them to fix a bunch of small things that can be done within an hour or two. read more

I needed to have some various repairs done to my condo unit and chose HandiCo because of the number of highly-rated reviews on Yelp. My circumstance is a bit different because I never got to see the work firsthand because I live out of town, having moved from Chicago in 2008. I should preface this review by saying that I definitely have trust issues having had gone through the ringer from a horrific tenant experience (the a**hole never paid a dime in rent in the 2+ years that he lived there, made all kinds of damage to the unit - which is why I needed to hire a repairman - in order to prove in court that the place was "unlivable", and cost me six figures in lost rent, damages, and legal fees). That being said, the experience was good but not perfect. First, the good: Demond, the person who was appointed the job, came on time and seemed very respectable. The work that he did was good, according to my real estate agent who assessed it afterwords. My gripe is that the line of communication and management of expectations was very sub-par. My agent told Demond to call him when he was done so he can look at the work and give an informal sign-off. This was important not only to make sure that all the work that was to be performed was done but so that I knew exactly how long he had been working in the unit. Instead, he left without telling anyone. At $88 an hour, I don't think it's unfair to get some kind of indication of how long he was there. Most people would have a hard time simply taking the word of a stranger. Also, I had made arrangements to have the materials he needed on site when he arrived. The invoice included about $75 in materials with no explanation of what those materials were and why they were needed. After several email communications over 3 weeks with various people, I was finally given the answers I needed. But to be fair, the costs were legitimate; I just wished that I was told up front instead of having to go through a wild goose chase. Also, I wasn't told about the 30% warranty markup on materials beforehand which I think should have been clear on the outset. Caroline, the office manager, definitely assuaged my frustration and put me at ease by making sure that I was billed fairly. Demond had gone to a Home Depot about 5 miles away instead of the Ace Hardware that was a 5-minute walk from the building to get a part that he thought would be at Home Depot but wasn't, so she made up for it by reducing the billed time by a half hour. If it weren't for her, I'd probably give a three- instead of 4-star rating. In the end, I think they did a good job overall. I would have been more impressed if the communication was better, but I still consider them a respectable company whom I may consider hiring again in the future. read more

Scott was very professional, explained what our walls were like and the best hardware to use if we want to try to hang some things in the future on our own. HandiCo was great -- I had someone come out to help me install 2 light fixtures and fix some GFCI outlets in my kitchen. It turned out the issue with the GFCI was more extensive than I'd thought, but Andy was able to fix it with a little creative work. He also suggested some electrical repairs that would make the kitchen safer long-term, but didn't push or upsell, which I appreciated.
