I would strongly caution against using this company. I hired them to remove a fold-out couch from my third floor. When they arrived I told them I wasn't sure if the couch would need to be disassembled or the doors taken off their hinges in order to get the couch down the stairs. They assured me that they were professionals and knew how to handle it. Two hours later they had managed to get the couch out of the house after knocking three large holes in the plaster on the staircase. When I told them I didn't want to pay until the plaster was repaired, the movers were instructed to sit in front of my house in their truck until I paid them. I figured that my issue was with the management, so I paid the movers after speaking with a manager who assured me that everything would be taken care of. Long story short: it wasn't taken care of. When I finally spoke to an upper-level manager -- some two weeks later -- he immediately behaved as if I were trying to scam him -- claiming that I had had construction done since the couch was delivered which made it impossible to remove and that I was attempting to get him to re-plaster my entire house. When I said I just wanted him to repair the plaster they had damaged, he said his liability only covered 60 cents per pound of the object being moved so he would only be able to pay about $150 (Not sure where that figure came from.) and that it was my job to find a person to repair the plaster. (This was after the lower-level manager assured me that they had a person who could do the work.) I'm fine with people making mistakes, but in business and life people who don't acknowledge their mistakes or work to make them right are not worth dealing with. This company seems to operate well as long as everything goes smoothly. As soon as you have a justifiable complaint -- that, for instance, your property has been damaged -- you will be treated with aggression, condescension and contempt. Other reviews here echo that same sentiment and are worth paying attention to. This situation is very simple: I paid the full bill to have couch removed. I have not been compensated for any of the damage done to the plaster on my staircase. Anything else is noise. Let the buyer beware. read more

We have moved several times including cross country and within town and Handle with Care had the best movers that we have ever had. This is the ONLY move we have had where the movers haven't damaged/scratched something. They sent a 3-person team (Andy, Yeri, and Dan) for $189 per hour. They arrived at 8:45 and left our new place at 1:45 moving 3 bedrooms, study, and basement. They wrapped all of the furniture in pads and plastic wrap before they loaded. At our new place, they placed furniture where we wanted. The new place has hardwood floors and they removed metal feet from our furniture and replaced them with felt pads that I already had. Andy even offered to do a simple repair (they didn't do the damage) on an old piece of furniture. We were amazed that they could carry two things easily and go up and down the stairs without banging into the walls. When their hands were empty they ran up and down the stairs. When they left, my husband and I looked at each other and said, "wow! They were amazing!" read more

Have used these guys twice in the last year. Once to move from Saline to central Idaho, and then back again to Ann Arbor after 8 months, as a family medical situation required our return to be in close proximity to Mott. Seriously cannot rave about them enough. Not only the most inexpensive quote we received (several thousand dollars less than Allied or Mayflower, for example) but the service was absolutely top-notch. Packing, loading, traveling with zero items broken, and unloading; they nailed every facet. And when something did go wrong on the return trip (one of the packers/loaders in Idaho lost the nuts/bolts hardware for a bedroom set) the owners personally went out of his way to fix the problem as quickly and efficiently as possible. These guys were great! Professional, fast, courteous, and easy-going from start to finish. Having experienced terrible movers in the past, this was a breath of fresh air. We were doing an in-town move: pack on one day and then move and unload the next. When they came to give the quote they were fast, professional, and knowledgeable. That professionalism was carried through by the packers and the movers too: everything went smoothly. I used Handle With Care in 2000 when I moved from an apartment that I was renting into a condo that I bought. Twelve years later, in 2012, I got married and needed help doing two moves to combine two homes into a new one. I hired them again. These guys are amazing. They will wrap the stuff that needs to be wrapped, and will wrap everything if you want, but your'e paying them by the hour, so it's up to you. They move things with expert care, dodging walls and going around corners and up stairs with amazing skills. Everyone on the crew is very nice, and most of them speak English. They even were willing to go out of their way and let me pay them a disposal fee to take a sofa bed that we didn't want anymore to the dump on their way out. My only complaint was that some shelves to a printer stand disappeared in the move. With all of the other shelved furniture, they had wrapped the shelves up and put them inside. When we opened this piece of furniture, there were no shelves inside, and we never found them. At times, boxes got put in the wrong rooms. However, the crew was super hard working, definitely were well intentioned, were always super nice, and we were so appreciative that we tipped them. read more

Last year we hired them to hep us move. I never saw the person in the photo again on the moving date to see how they're doing. However None of the workers spoke English. There was a person with a very broken English who told me something. All I could understand was the word "lunch". Waited for them to come back and take all that they had left behind. When I called to ask where they are, nd why they took so long, I then understood that he said: We had lunch and now waiting at your new place! That much I understood then. This was the last month f my husband's life due to cancer. I didn't take photos to prove anything just for a memory him curling up on the floor and nothing to cover him with. Yet many photos of what they had left behind. Charging us much over the initial estimate is another story. Yesterday I called them since I had forgotten their name. by the address the nice lady on the phone gave me I realized that this is the same company. I politely shared our last year experience, and expressed my unhappiness about the unprofessional way they handled our painting, using six of our own garment boxes, and yet they charged us more. Wished her a good they and we said goodbye. In less than three minutes this man (I suppose the owner) called angry and with a very nasty tone told me to erase their number from my phone and never call them again or else he will call the police. I replied this s not the old country. we have rules here. He got really nasty and started saying even more offensive word. I had to hang up on him. Well, my first attempt at reviewing this company was filtered out. I wrote Yelp, but it is still filtered out...ALL of the reviews are filtered out...not sure why. Hopefully, this re-run of my first review will be published. The only thing I might add is that I'm not sure all the pictures that are shown are relevant to this particular location, as there are so many of them. They could be from a corporate ad across the franchise. Anyway, here's what I wrote. I hope it is helpful to others. Our daughter was finishing up a residency in Ann Arbor and moving to Boston in June. She had the stress of a new job and moving to a new city. She had contacted about 4 movers. She chose Handle with Care because she liked the owner who came to give her the estimate. Yes, he can give an estimate quickly, and he was right on target with the poundage. Of all the people she talked to, he was the only one who was able to assure her of her final costs and exact delivery time. He understood her time-line and met it as promised. His movers came on time and quickly packed the truck. They used shrink wrap on some of the pieces, which was terrific. One of the men who packed the truck drove the truck out East. There, that pleasant driver hired another, really nice worker to help him unload the truck at her new residence. They worked really hard! We could not have had a more positive experience. Handle with Care really meant just that. We were accommodated so that there was no stress at all. It wasn't merely moving furniture, it was the peace of mind that came with it. Do not hire this moving company! They broke the ceiling light globes while lifting our bed and didn't tell me. I had to find the broken glass after the move. They broke our headboard and our dresser. My husband called the owner Ray, while the move was happening to tell him about all the damages and how slowing the moving team was working and the owner yelled at my husband and called him a liar. At one point during the move, I walked past the van where several of the guys were standing and I smelled marijuana. We reported this to the owner but he did nothing. After they left we realized they kept our $300 ladder, so my husband called again to ask them to return it but they never did. We called several times but the owner never called us back. DO not live our mistakes and avoid this horrible man and his company. read more

We had a move booked for November, booked a month in advance. Company came to assess our move. They stated it would be a two day move. It had been booked as a one day move. That was not the issue/ concern. They stated they would not have time to do a two day move for another month. We were moving the next week. We asked that they honor the initial booking and provide movers for one day for our furniture, and we would move the boxes, outdoor furniture etc on our own. They refused to honor the booking at all, leaving us one week to find another mover. Obviously, our move ended up DELAYED. To add insult to injury, after this happened they charged us well over 200$ for boxes, that we could not return to them as we had already PACKED in them. Horrible company, unprofessional, rude, and petty. We ended up using Corrigan who were wonderful and professional. Stay away from this company if you need to move on a deadline, like most people selling/ buying houses do! read more

My review stands. Knowing I had to call Ray after I thought everything was finished because of the lost couch cushion made me almost break down it tears. Every phone call with him resulted in his accusing me of being cheap and telling me I was wrong. The negative review is largely for the poor quality customer service I received during a very stressful move, as well as the damaged items he insisted were my fault to begin with. It was a huge relief when he didn't yell at me for the couch cushion and it arrived in one piece. Caveat Emptor. read more

I rely on reviews, and it was tough to find a moving company in Ann Arbor with many reviews. So I have to add this one: I recommend HWCM. I hired HWCM to load a truck in Ann Arbor for a move to Chicago. The correspondence prior to service was professional and friendly. The movers worked hard non-stop in 90-degree weather, loading a 16-foot truck in about two hours. It was impressive. And, nothing was broken when I unloaded the truck in Chicago. Note that they scheduled two movers, but showed up with three, which was a higher hourly rate, but they were that much faster. I think it would have been more expensive had there only been two. At any rate, I am giving four stars instead of five because the timing was a bit off. I was told that the movers would show up between noon and 2 p.m., but on the day of the move was called at 10 a.m. or so to let me know that the movers would not be there until between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and they finally showed up at about 4:15 p.m. Admittedly, I thought the movers would show up at noon as opposed to 2 p.m., so I was ready with a truck then and waited around for four hours instead of for two. I should note that there were no surprises, I called for an update and one point and Jolan was quick in getting back to me. I suppose it is the business model servicing a big area. Either way, if you want hard and quick workers, professional dialogue, and your things protected, HWCM is the way to go. read more

Yesterday HWC assisted us in our move from Plymouth Township to Downtown Plymouth. Although a short distance, we had accumulated 12 years of goodies and needed a team of professional movers to help us relocate to the new house. From the minute the team arrived on Monday to help us pack to the sign-off last night, I can only say how impressed I was with the professionalism and care with which the team executed our move. The packing crew arrived and quickly set up the carpet protection and pads. We did a walk-through of what was to be packed by us and by the team. The courtesy and attention to detail was second to none - the crew asked questions and was very conscientious of our needs and most importantly took great care in the packing process. Yesterday the same crew arrived with some additional help to execute the load, move and unload. The entire team worked diligently through the process without complaint or issue. I spoke personally to several members of the team who were all personable and caring in what they did. When we arrived at our new home, the same level of care was taken with the unload and set-up. I have to admit that as the day got longer, I was expecting a "we'll come back and get it tomorrow" but instead the team stayed and completed all the necessary set-up and re-assembly we needed. We were recommended your company by two other families that HWC helped move recently. I can only say how impressed I was with the professionalism from start to finish, the quality of the team and their execution and our complete appreciation for the hard work they did to help make the move as seamless and painless as possible. read more

They were quick to follow up, even though Ray left out most of the information. In response to Ray misrepresentation, yes, I did write one invoice because I was the artist who created one item and sell them. The other item, an antique porcelain vase, was completely lost and they had to estimate its worth. That estimate came from another expert. read more

I had a terrible experience trying to arrange an estimate. When I finally just cancelled altogether -- after specifically stating that I didn't need a call back -- the owner me called specifically to chew me out. Let me repeat that. Despite my request to not get a call, the owner of the company took time out of his busy schedule to call me so that he could yell at me. I think that tells you everything that you need to know about the guy. The owner's a jerk, and I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. I feel sorry for his staff. They were very expensive, because they charge by the hour and took a very long time to pack up furniture. When an modular armoire was damaged, we were accused of lying about it, because we did not discover damage until 3 weeks after the move. This, even though the parts were stacked up in the basement, where you could not see the damage, until we moved them. They should stand behind their work and reimburse for damaging our stuff, which they will not. Would not hire again. read more

If it sounds too good to be true, it might be too good to be true. I called to schedule a haul of some basement things for two days later. They told me they could 'fit me in" because they were in that area that day and give me a tight window. They said it would probably cost around $100. They never told me there was a $149 cancellation fee if you cancel in less than 5 days. They never divulged at website nor while scheduling that there was a $149 cancellation fee for hauling.The $149 cancellation is never mentioned in scheduling or at the website. I had to cancel and they did not tell me on the phone that I would be charged for the cancel. Imagine my surprise when I received the $149 bill. When I called, they told me that their cancellation fee policy is in the confirmation that is emailed. Only trouble was, I was out of luck because of the less than 5 days in which I called. They are not honest and transparent in their business practices. read more
