Better KBBQ I've had in a while! Beef tongue was fantastic and they don't slice it so thin that you can't even pick it up after cooking (looking at you, Gen). The other short rib and lamb were great, too. All around pretty good if you're into those things. The service was on point, which is important for AYCE. Every round they were voluntarily changing our grills they consistently made themselves available. The only downsides are their banchan is limited, their tofu soup was largely oil, and when we asked for the cumin sauce a confused waiter brought out gochujang. We tried their package C all you can eat, which included their Wagyu beef options. Service was quick and they did multiple check ins throughout our dinner. They also swapped out our grill multiple times without asking. Plenty of meat options and side dish options. Highly recommend. Parking can be tough in their shared lot so try to find street parking or park in one of the paid lots nearby. read more

Came here again after a while, same great brisket & beef belly. The best marinated short rib in the game is still at handoo. Also their pickled radish is my favorite. Convoy Street here in San Diego is where you mostly find a lot of Korean BBQ buffets. My family and I have pretty much tried every Korean BBQ here in Convoy, and this Handoo became our favorite spot when we're craving Korean BBQ. The meats here are very Flavorful , our favorite meat we like to get the most here is their Short Ribs, they are tender and marinated really well , very tasty. We also like how when we come here we are not squeazzed in to a shared table, most of their table are for 4 people and it's just mostly Me and my wife and my son when we visit this place so it's perfect and always comfy table space for us. They also have longer tables for bigger groups but I only see a few of them. If you have a big group and are not lucky enough to be at a larger table, i see sometimes they squeeze a larger group of 7 in a small table with 1 grill. Service here is fast . There's always someone present around walking to check the tables. Now the parking, mostly on the weekend is packed here coz they are not the only restaurant in the area, theres lot of selection to dine in next door to them, so we come here on weekdays and parking is mostly peaceful and easy to find. We have been eating here for many years now, really a great spot for Korean Bbq buffet. read more

I've been coming here consistently for the last 5 or so years. Relative to the many other AYCE kbbq spots in SD, Handoo is not "flashy;" however, I have found that it is consistent, affordable, has high quality food, and great customer service. I have dined here and taken many friends and family across all days of the week (both during slow and very busy times) and I find that the service is always quick. The salad is amazing and we usually order at least 1-2 bowls per visit. They switch out the grill regularly and are quick at turning the tables. The ambiance is simple but works well. A recent change I've noticed in the last month is that we now need to order the traditional sides (e.g., kimchi, mashed potatoes, etc.) that were previously already served on the table when seated. Not a big deal but just something to think about. It is not an extra charge but part of the menu selected. Parking is shared in a lot and can be tough during busy hours, so plan accordingly. read more

This place was full during lunch time on a Saturday; however, there wasn't a wait for a table. It was $38 for the highest tier menu, which included beef tongue, finger meat, and rib eye. The beef tongue and beef belly were my favorites, and we ate multiple plates of each. However, I was very disappointed by the brisket as it was quite tough even though it was quite thinly cut. The finger meat and short rib were also a bit tougher than I'm used to. I tend to not order the ribeye at KBBQ because I don't think the thicker cut and lean eye section doesn't fare as well on the grill as the thinner, fattier cuts. They had a good selection of sides, including my favorite steamed egg. Oddly, they initially said they ran out of rice wraps but they dropped off one order in the middle of our meal. The tables and decor are a bit dated in style but it appeared clean. read more

I think this place is decent for the price. They have Menu A and Menu B. Menu A is 32$ and Menu B is 38$. Menu B just has a few more items, just a tad bit more premium. I went with Menu B bc it has ALL the meats I typically eat. What I really enjoyed was the marinated beef rib. The meat was pretty tender. In this package they have baby octopus and squid also. The sides were OK. I was really disappointed in the corn cheese. It definitely needed more mayo or kewpie and a tiny bit of sugar and fir sure MORE cheese! The steamed egg was really good. We walked into HanDoo Korean BBQ on a Friday night expecting a line... and walked straight to a table. No wait -- already a win. Though it may have been for a reason... We ordered Menu B ($35.99 for adults, $18.99 for kids 5-8), which has all the KBBQ classics. But the boneless beef rib? Chef's kiss Easily the best cut on the menu. The ribeye had potential but seemed kind of frozen still, so it lost a bit of its expected melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Now... the service might be why there was no wait. While they were friendly, they definitely weren't fast. After placing our first order, the grill sat empty for about 10 minutes, which in KBBQ time feels like an eternity. Our grill sat empty again after we cooked the first round, for another 10 mins before placing the second round order. Service was so slow, we only made it two rounds, as our brains caught up with our stomachs. Wondering if that's purposeful because there was no shortage of servers. Love that they made salad optional as a side (I don't waste my time with salad at KBBQ). The fried rice was "meh" - nothing to write home about. Atmosphere-wise, it's loud -- fun for groups, Kpop playing, but expect to yell a little for conversation. We tried menu B, which was $36 instead of $30 and came with some premium meats that I thought were worth it, like the beef rib finger, beef tongue, and rib eye steak. From the cheaper menu A, the beef brisket and beef belly were standard and good as usual, but the thin pork belly tasted lower quality. The portions for the spicy octopus were also huge, I would definitely try to get a half portion next time. My all time favorite KBBQ spot! They are open late til midnights. They used to be on the lower end for pricing but I think it's pretty standard to other places now, but it's worth it. The food is amazing. I usually get menu A but I definitely eye menu B, which is like menu A plus more, so maybe next time I'll get it. My favorite meat is the brisket. I love the bonchon the most here too. All of them are really good. I always get the pickled radish to go with my meat. And the corn cheese and steamed egg are amazing. The service here is great, they're nice but the most important part is that they are really fast and efficient. They have their system down. The food comes out fast and they come pick your empty plates quickly. They are also good at noticing when you need a grill change. The restaurant itself is clean and lively. I love how the music is not too loud and there is good lighting so you can see everything haha. At nights, it gets pretty crowded and you can see how much everyone is really enjoying the place. It's been a long time since I've eaten here but I had it again this past weekend with my family and honestly, the only upside to this place is that you can get seated rather quickly on a weekend. But service is so slow, they barely come around to check on you and take your order(I wish they had those buzzer buttons to call a waitstaff). And the portion sizes are so small. We came in for lunch and there was only 1 person running around trying to take everyone's orders and bring them out (7 tables). There are 2 menu options to choose from here: Menu A: $29.99 Menu B: $35.99 We chose Menu A. There weren't a lot of banchan to choose from, but was good enough for a quick lunch. We ordered the typical brisket, bulgogi, and marinated beef ribs. The brisket was good. Bulgogi was marinated well. The "marinated beef ribs" weren't marinated beef ribs... the cut was boneless and looked like + had the texture of espadilla (beef chuck shoulder clod) but was still good. Located in a busy plaza on convoy, parking is def tough due to the small lot and the spaces are pretty tight. 2 hrs are included but after that there is a fee. Our group of 10 had 2 tables which only required a short wait time on a Saturday evening. We ordered MENU B which is only a few $$ more than an and is slightly more premium. The restaurant was clean and overall music volume was perfect. Once seated, it took time to be treated by a server and required us to let them know we were ready. We ordered 2 bottles of soju and 2 pitchers. There was an issue with the pitchers not coming out but they apologized for that error. Parking can be tough depending on what time you come and the parking spots are small. There's a sign that says you have to pay for parking if you will be more than 2 hours but not sure how they enforce it. We were sat at a long table with grills for a party of 10. Like most KBBQ places there is never enough room for everything on the table so have the menu on the wall was very helpful. We went with the more expensive menu for $37.99 (higher than what is listed in their website). The cuts we like the most were: brisket, rib eye and intercostals. They also have good pork belly which our friend recommends dipping in ssamjang (fermented soybean and chili sauce). They checked on us often to change the grill plates and take our order. First time here. Parking here like anywhere in Balboa is a hit or miss...this time was a hit! The space is small compared to non Balboa eateries. Most eateries in Balboa ares mall but have a big taste. Handsome was no exception. Price was reasonable and the flavor, specially the marinated meats were great. Came here on Valentine's Day and the wait was not long. There are two different tiers to choose from and I got the higher tier which was about $37-38 per person. The service was so quick! All of the items I ordered would come within 2 minutes of ordering. I would highly recommend getting the marinated short rib and the beef tongue. The corn cheese was good as well but I wish that it had more cheese on it to have that cheese pull effect. The fish cake and the potato salad were delicious and I think I had about 3 servings of the potato salad. Decided to try out Handoo! I'm a huge fan!! 3 of us decided on AYCE. After tax and tip (and me ordering a beer), it came out to ~$45-50 per person, which is quite good! We ate a ton of food. My personal favorites were the brisket and beef tongue. Sides were good as well. I'm a huge fan of this location getting "double" orders correct. Whereas, other locations always mess up a double order. Shoutout to Nate (our server), for being extremely attentive and quick. Staff was quick to change grills. Parking is absolutely garbage in this plaza. I ended up parking a few blocks in the back and walking 7-8 min over. Not a big deal. Only downside to this location is that airflow is nonexistent.
