I broke my elbow in an E- bike accident on Memorial Day. It was a REALLY BAD break. My surgeon bonded my elbow back together with a metal plate and 7 screws he then told me to see Scott at Hands on Hands Rehabilitation. When I came to see Scott, I was frustrated, doubtful and had real fear that I would have to live with my arm at a 90degree angle for ever. I told him my goals were to be able to bend my elbow to put my hair in a ponytail and to be able to bend it enough to be able to wash my face. I am happy to report that as of July - I can now do both of those things. With the help, patience and encouragement of both Scott and Jay I am making progress every day! There is a level of professionalism, kindness and caring that is rare. I would highly recommend Hands on Hands Rehabilitation to anyone looking for results! I would give 10's if I could! read more

I have been struggling with trigger fingers on both hands for the last several months. My orthopedic surgeon referred me to Hands on Hands. My therapist, Scott, was so thorough and professional, friendly and kind. He explained what is going on with my hands ... what to do and what not to do to make my hands/fingers not "trigger." Short Review: While I did see other patients get properly treated for more common obvious external injuries, I wouldn't recommend this place if you want to heal from repetitive strain injury. The actual therapists were nice, but the inconsistent scheduling, lack of pain therapy, and treatment that ultimately led to my issue getting worse every week made me quit this place within a month to go to another. Detailed Review: So I went into this place after being diagnosed with repetitive motion disorder, or repetitive strain injury. The first week I went I saw Amy who mostly took my measurements and gave me some exercises to do at home. So this first session was nice but after that is basically where all the problems started coming in. So my diagnosis recommended to visit the rehab for three times a week for 6 weeks. You would think you'd want to see the same therapist for consistent treatment? However it turns out Amy was not available at the times that I wanted. Well I figured if I wanted to get the treatment I needed I just would go whoever and I just assumed all the therapists would just be on the same page as Amy was. Let's just say it didn't appear that if you get different therapists that they really pass on notes to each other to work with. So for example, after Amy, I worked with Mary, Rushin, and Meredith. I would say all of them individually were nice personality-wise. The problem is, you know those exercises I've heard from Amy? They never got updated or even referred to by these other therapists after the first session. All four of my therapists followed a similar pattern: start off with some heat therapy, maybe do some massage therapy and light lotion rubbing a few minutes each tops. Immediately after I went to some kind of strengthening exercises using various tools and machines they had. And then the session usually ended with ice therapy. However, the variations felt different enough that I didn't feel like I was getting consistent treatment between the therapist. Also, in the 4 weeks that I went to Hands on hands not only do I feel like I was overall getting not better, in fact I was slowly getting worse. It says something where in the first session I went to I only had mild pain in my thumb and left ring finger. Two weeks later I got an onset of new diagnosis where I had to go back to the doctor. I started to have forearm pain mostly on my right side and more pain on my left ring finger and additional new pain on my left middle finger. I realized this business has this really annoying way of how you can add new diagnosis to treatment officially. There's only two therapists in the whole building who can add on this diagnosis to your treatment. I only found this out the second week after my forearm diagnosis. When going to Mary, an occupational therapy assistant, she wouldn't be able to do proper re-measurements for the forearm. While my diagnosis said to come three times a week for 6 weeks, it turns out each of the therapists said to only come in once a week, to not overexert my repetitive strain injury. However I slowly realized that I didn't really come out of each session feeling much better. Notice how I said that they only did very light massages and rubbing at most? So ultimately I felt like these so-called therapists weren't applying much actual pain therapy. Despite this being called occupational therapy, I rarely got advice related to ergonomics related computer workstation as well as other things. I basically had to go out of my way to ask Mary once about proper ergonomics making sure I'm doing things right. Otherwise the only thing I even got related to this was just rest as much as possible from one of the therapists. After a month, I had a monthly progress report, and when I was filling things out I was realizing I was actually worse than I was then when I went in and I think they noticed too. This brings me to the final issue I have at this place: The fact that each therapist essentially sees two patients at the same time. From my experience I usually had undivided attention for maybe 15 to 20 minutes, but then they would suddenly have to bring in a new patient just so they can cover how busy they were. That thought process, in addition to my progress report showing that I haven't really got much better was the final straw of me leaving. Now I'm not saying if you go here it's a guaranteed failure for you. In fact, at the times that I went it seems like some patients were pretty well along their recovery and some were seems like they're on their last sessions. Another positive I will give about this place is that I actually liked each of the four therapists I went to, at least personality-wise. Unfortunately, I can't in good conscious recommend this place if you specifically want one to one attention, and you have some kind of repetitive strain injury, whether it's from the computer or something else. read more

The owner Scott is such an amazing therapist. He has helped me tremendously with my right hand. I shattered my wrist two years ago at work. After my second surgery Scott has worked so diligently to regain my strength and I have more use everyday. I have been seeing him since March of this year. To be honest, I don't really like the idea of going to Therapy for any reason, mostly because in the past, I've had Therapists who have been disengaged from me as their patient so I would dread going to my appointments. Hands on Hands Rehab.,. Has changed my opinion and has renewed my faith that there are some REALLY GOOD Therapists out there. Tritia in particular, was phenomenal in getting me back on track with my thumb/wrist. She showed genuine care for me and even went as far as doing extra research on finding a stretch specific to my condition. Tritia was determined in making sure I was receiving the utmost care she can provide! I truly appreciated her dedication to my care, not to forget she was ALWAYS Friendly and attentive. I ultimately ended up needing surgery and today was my "Graduation Day" From Hands on Hands! I'm going to miss the Warm, Friendly, and Professional Atmosphere of this Place. You were made to feel like you we're Family or a Very Dear Friend! A Special Shout Out To Janessa as well! Although she never worked with me, she was as every bit as awesome as Tritia! I had a very unsatisfactory experience when I came to this business seeking help with hand arthritis. I've always been very active and crippling pain in my hands is the first aging (I'm 66) problem I've had to deal with which will limit my activities now and in the future. So this is a big deal to me! Meredith was my therapist and while she is undoubtedly qualified and experienced, she exhibited no empathy at all. She was unremittingly negative about the disease and I was basically left with the message that it's only going to get worse and the best thing you can do to slow the progression is to use your hands as little as possible. I left feeling distraught and depressed. She fitted me for splits. One did not fit. She adjusted it and it still does not fit but I don't want to go back. Perhaps we just had a personality conflict, but I had a very negative experience with this business and cannot recommend it to anyone. read more

I was assigned to Hands on Hands after wrist surgery and, frankly, was prepared for the usual rehab drill: the specialist lobs a few lumps of clay or devices at you and tells you to exercise for 50 minutes and then scram. HANDS ON HANDS was completely the opposite. Ms Tritia Herrera and Ms Lily Jamison were extremely kind, caring, sensitive, and skilled. The treatment I received from them was incredibly professional and the results were amazing! Emerging from a cast, I could barely touch my thumb to ANY finger and -- after eight weeks -- all my flexibility and about 95% of my strength was restored. I highly recommend this rehab service -- and would be remiss if I did not acknowledge Nikki-san, the receptionist, who was friendly and gracious and always was able to schedule convenient appointments for me. I highly recommend you to come here! The staff is so wonderful. I love the O.T.'s Wendy(retired), M.J., and Meredith. I love Maria & Nikki as well. They are always welcoming all off their patients with such a big smile & positive attitude. They made me feel like family for the past 2 years of my treatment. They have helped me gain back motion & strength on my L hand. They always take into consideration the pain your feeling and won't push you any further than what you cannot tolerate. I was in a roll-over car accident and had degloving of my L hand. All of my metacarpals were crushed into multiple pieces & was very close to having it amputated. I arrived at their office the first time with 5 metal rods sticking out of my hand. Wendy was so nice to do a splint that supported my hand in the correct position for healing. I then had a 2nd surgery of a skin graft. I hadn't gone in a month and Wendy, the O.T., called me at home to follow up on my treatment and to see how I was doing. I then returned to the office a bit scared because I heard all the horror stories of how painful it is prior to arriving to the office. I even cried the day before because I was tired of feeling pain even though I was on pain killers. But Wendy did such an amazing job & respected my tolerance for pain. If it wasn't for this place & the wonderful staff that worked with me, I would not have achieved the results I have right now. I have developed strength & flexibility compared to when I walked in with a stiff wrist & joints that were in one position & could not even bend my fingers. If you ever need occupational therapy; this is the place to come. You will get the results by working hard at your appointment & also with the home program that is assigned to you. read more

I came to Hands on Hands to be treated by a Certified Hands Therapist (CHT). My evaluation and first visit after the evaluation was with Meredith Vaughan, OTR/L, CHT. This first bump in the road occurred at the end of my second appointment, before leaving, I asked Meredith about sending home a home exercise program (exercises to do at home to help me get better) with me. Meredith stated that she thought she already did so but verified in my patient chart that she did not. Since I work in healthcare with therapists I understand most therapy concepts. If I had not asked for a home exercise program, who knows if and when I would have received one - which was part of my therapy order on the physician's order. The second bump in the road happened yesterday when I was 15 minutes late to my appointment because I was involved in a car accident (which I was not at fault) right outside the therapy center. I called the office and told them I was going to be a little late to my appt because I was in an accident and needed to exchange information with the driver that hit me. I spoke to Luisana Manzo at the front desk and she said ok they would see me when I arrive. My appt was scheduled with Meredith. Once I got to the appt, Luisana told me I was going to be seen by a different therapist named Mary Ann Watson, COTA. I do understand not being able to be seen by Meredith because she had another patient scheduled, however the issue is I was seen by someone who was not Certified in Hand Therapy and was an assistant. There is a different level of skill set between Meredith and Mary Ann and seeing someone who wasn't Certified in Hand Therapy was not beneficial to my treatment. The other issue is that Luisana did not communicate the late policy to me where if you are 15 mins or more late, they need to assign you to a different therapist if available. My situation was different in that I could not control having another driver hit me just before my appt. The office may want to provide training to Luisana regarding better communication skills to help her improve. Mary Ann was the only one at the office who showed what compassionate patient care is. Compassion is important when it comes to good quality care. I am hopeful the office can provide more training to Meredith about providing better quality patient care. Hands on Hands Costa Mesa was not a recommended therapy center by my Orthopedic doctor. My poor experience there has shown why. read more

I have been going here for a few months after a work accident. MJ and Meridith have been great working with my wrist and elbow. Very sweet girls and know what they are doing. They explain why I am doing each exercise and what it does. I have improved strength and mobility in my broken wrist (3 breaks) and my cracked elbow. I would highly recommend going here for therapy. All of the staff is very nice. Plus you never have to wait for your session. It's always nice to talk sports the owner is a LA kings fan as well. read more

Best acupuncture I've ever experienced! I've seen many acupuncturists but have never had such quick results as I did with Courtney! She really took the time to do a thorough assessment before treating me. When I went in for my first visit my neck was really stiff and achy... Courtney was able to find and apply pressure to certain points on my arm and the stiffness was immediately gone! I've been a few times now and everytime I experience positive results. After struggling with back pain for over 10 years, I've finally found someone who can help me!
