The message felt pretty clear: we were the only table with children, and they didn't want us there. If children aren't welcome, that's completely fine--but then simply tell families at the door rather than seating them, taking their order, and then introducing a "minimum per person" 20 minutes later that doesn't appear to be applied consistently to other customers.
